aikens recent contribution to psyks non series gets remixed by talented uk producers blawan, volte-face and james ruskin. blawans remix of genetics sets the tone with energetic rhythms and trippy sound textures, volte-face delivers a progressive and hypnotic version of hybrid and james ruskin ends the release with his own intense yet funky interpretation of dominance.
since its beginnings, fracture has followed the formula of releasing upcoming and interesting newcomers, people they believe in, to get them remixed by more established artists. this time its none other than uk techno legend james ruskin stepping up to the task, for a track carefully crafted by berlin based artist leiras. leiras comes from madrid, and has in the last few years since his move to germany released a handful of eps, mostly on his own ownlife imprint. abyssal is a trippy and atmospheric cut, the kind of deep techno that can transport you into a second state if dropped at the right time. on remix duty, ruskin makes it weirder and grittier, slowly and skillfully building the tension from atmospheric to potential peak time material.

a one-off release from james and karl here showcasing chunks of their killer live set from a recent london gig. the a-side is basically a brilliantly executed and bass heavy mashup of ruskins classic track work alongside the much loved blunted rhythms of kalons man is the superior animal.in contrast the b-side is a great intro/outro beatless tool.

this is the second of two vinyl parts, showcasing some of the exclusive new tracks chosen for ben klocks forthcoming berghain 04 mix compliation. part ii features a couple of vertebrae from the backbone of uk techno today, james ruskin and kevin gorman.
so when elektrax got together with bergens label if? to create a new vinyl release of remixes of the sublime little nobody track >metropolis how?< - as the debut showing for our brand new side-label gynoid - we couldnt think of two better practitioners to suit the moment... along with, of course, another canny remixer in the guise of elektraxs main-man, dj hi-shock.
ruskin continues to stomp out his trail of killer recent releases this time enroling the help of uk don mark broom ! a must for fans of o/v/r !! uk techno dude mr james ruskin pours on the release pressure here with the help of official techno country bumpkin mark broom! just back from remixing the wurzels, broomy takes the tempo up a little adding red2 style stabs whilst referring back to the solid sound palettes of the previous (and massive selling) regis collaboration of o/v/r (bp029)
james ruskin is considered a veteran producer these days, after co-founding blueprint records in 1996 with richard polson, and releasing a string of classics on blueprint, meta and tresor labels to name but a few. 2009 saw ruskin re-invent his sound, a far deeper bass driven aesthetic, with killer releases on sandwell district, token and the newly reformed blueprint imprint.
TRANSMISSION REMIXES PT.2 TIGA / JAMES RUSKIN REMIX
12" Vinyl D22.02.10
boys noize new album power has been released in october 2009 and already got massiv support across all genres. >transmission< is the 2nd single out of power, its static unheared synth sound, it s robot voices (you are neutron because lazor transmission) on a breakbeat gives you a feeling of josh winks early hit >higher states of conciousness< going to bed with kraftwerks sound aesthetic and robots on a 2010 afterparty. this release includes a dream package of remixes and also a video to follow shortly after.
after a break from solo production for his own blueprint label, during which he released a well-received album ( the dash ) on the mighty tresor, and a brace of singles as o/v/r (with regis), james ruskin returns to home-ground with a cracking two-tracker. sabre is a classic ruskin production, booming bottom-end and a mind-mangling filtered fx loop swirling around over the top. deceptively simple production that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts, as all good techno should be. on the flipside, massk follows a similar template, with only 5 or 6 parts throughout the whole track, but the subtle changes in arrangement lure the listener in to the deep and dark world of mr ruskin...
surface returns with a stellar line up of old friends and new faces with the next ep in their series of various artists releasesà surface was one of the main labels forging the new wave of uk techno in the mid nineties, running alongside blueprint, downwards and counterbalance, and this all round solid and innovative ep really shows they are back on top of their game!
