austin-based musician eliot lipp delivers “skywave”, an album lipp has been working on for the past several months. with influences from sci-fi soundtracks and 70s and 80s funk, he channels a collection of weird, high-definition, melodic beats. in these nine songs lipp feels he “might have everything i want to say in one moment.” recreating key musical moments in a current and relatable way was the goal in producing skywave and giving himself permission to take some risks as well. with a versatile approach, lipp has created opportunities to connect with some of the artists he first looked up to, playing in cities across america and abroad always returning to his hometown in the pacific northwest. collaboration plays a role in all his albums. he’s been a fan of emancipator for a years now and was beyond excited to get his “not quite awake” remix. he asked dmc champ chris karns to scratch on ‘joyride’. in addition to doing cuts, chris ended up playing live drums and layering unique vocal samples. ‘reflection’ came from a jam session with gibbz and cherub in their nashville studio. one of lipp’s biggest musical influences last year came from a group of producers from seattle that call themselves fish tank friends. most of them had a hand in the early stages of ‘spiders’. with monthly trips planned from texas back to washington, he anticipates more evenings surrounded by friends, fans, and new listeners where he brings everyone together through the touch of a button.

celebrating osiris’ 50th release in two parts, label head simon shreeve unveils ‘deep summer’ as the first: a downtempo, vocal-led track with a pace and laid-back vibe not usually associated with his mønic alias. on the b side, a remix from none other than burial offers a distinctly smokier take on the track, full of percussive melodies that weave into surprisingly major-chord territory towards the end of the song’s ten minutes. this is a release that sees both artists pushing their respective music’s preconceptions.

monday off is a new, vinyl only imprint from brooklyn founded by mary yuzovskaya. its ethos is to showcase artists from around the world that explore techno’s hypnotic side, specifically where trippy and dark productions go deep yet dynamic. the label’s inaugural release consists of two spellbinding original tracks from new jersey-based producer chanski, and includes a dance floor burning remix from one of warsaw’s premiere rising artists, michal wolski. each of these three tracks were crafted to mesmerise listeners via their subtle flow, but are powerful and propulsive enough to make them dance!

karl meier, ken meier and jon krohn, aka stave, are launching a label called standards & practices.
the three us artists, who share chicago roots, have a pretty straightforward mission in mind for standards & practices: “to provide a platform for releases by both talker and stave, as well as for material by other like-minded artists and collaborators.” talker is the downwards-affiliated duo of karl meier—a longtime techno dj, now based in berlin, who took part in ra’s playing favourites series last year—and krohn, formerly of the experimental rock group male, who’s also been putting out his own brand of abstract, industrialized electronic music as stave for around four years. ken meier, a new york-based graphic designer, partner at common name and dj—and karl’s brother—takes care of art and design for the label.
standards & practices’ opening move is a talker 12-inch, battle standards, the duo’s third full release and first since their 2014 album for downwards. a three-track ep built with material from their new live set and “aimed squarely at the dance floor,” it includes a new version of “my favorite colour is gold,” from 2015’s the immortal eye compilation cd. it’s due out in late july. next will be black hills, a five-track ep from stave that’s expected in september.
along with the soon-to-launch label, the meier brothers recently rebooted their fear of music podcast with some new mixes, including two from karl.

it s been a while since we last heard from juniper, the manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on underground quality and the like. having previously popped up on a various artists 12-, they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an ep that presents their subversive style immaculately. -indigo children- is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo motor city style electro and techno with industrial tones, while -life source negative- switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

he s bbeen a player of many years with groups such as ub40 aswad dub band ruff cutt just to name a few. he and his brother formed the band matic 16 to which the horn section is called matic horns. as a horn section they played on many reggae recordings for producers from the uk ja usa and europe. he has in resent times produced instrumentals for his own label hfp (homefront productions) that has been released 1.lucrative and 2 aba-ariginals as well as producing dub plates to the big sound systems such as aba-shanti-l channel one jah shaka and sound systems in europe. he has now taken to dub step with one of its biggest producers coki in bringing the horn to the electric digital sound with great success, new to the scene and new to both artists. this is an extension of bringing the sound of trixx to the club scene.

hyperdub+ warp records artists babyfather and gaika rework two 18+ tracks from their second album collect. hyperdubs dean blunt, a category-rejecting artist and an art-pop provocateur tackles drama under his babyfather guise, looping a low slung swagger beat under the vocals of dj escrow and samia mirza. warp records multi-disciplined south london artist gaika rips apart glow into a discordant sub-low bassline drone, pitching samias vocal as slow as can go, harsh high pitch tones and field recordings. one of the strongest things we’ve heard from the divisive producer.

norwegian sound artists alexander rishaug and lasse marhaug have worked together as a duo for almost 20 years. in this time they have produced one album, 2004s feel free at home. now, the pair are ready with their follow-up: corneal clouds. the music was recorded in 2012, then put through an extensive and meticulous fermentation process of five years until now at last it is ready for the public. rishaug marhaug promotes positive thinking through their unique brand of electronic music.

new talent from detroit. hazmat s infinite silence ep is as deep as they come, and is the first release in a new series of detroit artist releases from third ear. following on from third ear s landmark detroit beatdown series, the new detroit deep series of releases is just that. hazmat has played keyboards for artists such as bilal and mary j blige, as well as detroit legends kenny dixon jr, amp fiddler and delano smith. along the way, he started to make his own beats and his own tracks and is now ready to take things to the next level. he also plays keys with motown legacy artists touring bands, such as the the four tops, the detroit spinners, the gap band. it s not all about the beats and the synths, though. hazmat s work using the talkbox is right up there.

rdv, the new imprint from french dj & producer molly, presents its first release, from prophets of a new generation (aka michael zucker & pete an). rdv , the abbreviation of« récits de voyage » will simply be a meeting with artists that i have crossed paths with during my travels - a platform for my very talented friends, artists i really like, and also music from myself. this project was in my mind for so many years. it was not until now that it felt like the appropriate time to realize it, but i feel ready now to help push new talent & music from people i love.- - molly

few artists can claim to have their own distinctive “musical voice”: a style of composition and production that listeners instantly recognize. for starters, it takes years of experimentation to perfect, and most people simply don’t have the patience, talent or skills to pull it off.
ali kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. the istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style – a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering middle eastern instrumentation – via releases for the likes of luxa flex, kalisah, sound architecture and, most recently, leng.
it’s to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, it’s not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. from start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings.

gas grabaciones second cut it s an interesting mixture of two well known artists at their hometown. -eterno- is a very skilled dj with years of experience and also with wide experience producing, from day one he s an important reference for the label. on the other side we have -matias muten- track, his blasting live sets are an exquisite reference in uruguay. when talking about live performances, matias is a must. this work from both artists will try to tell with their analog, eclectic, bumping sounds how s the deal down in uruguay with experienced producers. ideal to play it both sides on the same dj set, they in some way complement each other, as if the story to tell is the same.

turkish mystery man ali kuru is fast becoming one of leng s go-to artists. since joining the label in early 2016, he s released two superb eps, with a debut album of evocative musical blends – think dub, disco, downtempo grooves, humid exotica, and authentic middle eastern instrumentation – due to drop later this spring.

jaxx madicine is a jazz-funk inspired house ish outfit from milan consisting of turbojazz (local talk, gamm records), parker madicine (heist, bastard jazz brooklyn, ct-hi records) and the talented jazz keyboardist veez_0 . with an organic and melodic sound collage you can hear influences from classic 70 s jazz-funk labels and artists like cti, mizell brothers, kudu and bob james but also the current sounds of kaidi tatham, byron the aquarius and harvey sutherland. on this their first ep you get three amazing tracks that all are made with a genuine love for analogue synthesizers, fender rhodes, clavinets and some soulful mpc programming...

since its release last year, the grammy nominated album louie vega starring…xxviii has reached unfathomable heights, after 8 single vinyl releases and two full triple set album releases, we still have one more up our sleeve. today, here we are in the third and final installment of the louie vega starring…xxviii vinyl album release series, this time taking it to another level with unreleased and lost mixes. when making an album there are usually way more than the number of songs allocated for the project. in this case there were over 50 songs and tracks created for the louie vega starring…xxviii album. vega has selected 14 unreleased and lost tracks from the recordings and put together dj friendly versions with these super talented artists involved: funkadelic, nick monaco & soul clap, kenny bobien, cindy mizelle, maphorisa, berita, wanda baloyi & kabomo (south african top talent), roberto roena (of the fania all stars), brutha basil, jesse jackson (blues rock artist), sara devine, luis salinas (argentinean guitarist), duane harden (song/hitmaker), & 3 winans brothers featuring the clark sisters. the packaging is lovely with an open gatefold huge picture of a mural painted by none other than richard wilson uk artist. mastering by the great walter coelho, for sonic perfection & pressing manufactured by optimal in germany.

pacific horizons are outliers, largely unconcerned with much that goes on beyond their la studio. immersed in their own universe of sound, the pair cherry pick from genres to create their own raw, lo-fi take on what, if you must pin it down, can be defined as loosely balearic. the duos sound calls on various eras of pyschedelia through the years. from the scene s roots to the very modern but always circles back to the initial shamanic intention of mind altering ritual. drawing heavily on the raw and rugged west coast for inspiration they posses a sound entirely indigenous to their locality and peers. this stark individuality has brought the project to the attention of such seminal characters as francois k, andrew weatherall and david mancuso. pacific horizons are drawn back down to earth again by deus records for a rare excursion away from their pacific wizard foundation imprint, teeing up one side of an exclusive 7-. on remix duty peaking lights provide the perfect foil. the fellow west coast artists are kindred spirits in pushing against the norm but here bring some order to the release, segueing the raw ideas into a their own blissful, rolling balearic experience. equal parts melancholia and euphoria, burning stars dub version is entirely complimentary to the original track, giving space and structure to some of the more volatile elements of the original. anything pacific horizons put their name to exists to revel in the purity and energy of the original moment of creation, little if any editing is done once the song is whole, making them the perfect artists for this limited edition release full of spontaneity and ideas. pressed on 7 inch white vinyl in full picture sleeve.
