a chance encounter in barcelona, spain brought us together to make this record happen. it’s a precious little marvel of love from kou keri kou and electric cowbell. based in barcelona, spain, the group began with the aim of making music to dance to, taking inspiration from all over the world with no fear: the music from cuba, perú, jamaica, congo and nigeria is as important for kou keri kou as the music played in europe or in the united states. los zafiros, gary numan, los destellos, radio futura, sunny ade and kiko veneno share place in their imagination and help them create open-minded pop that always looks to the future. their lyrics are sometimes open, sometimes a bit more cryptic, sometimes political and sometimes biting, but always try to communicate with the listeners while trying to make them dance. they’ve been playing together for two years, creating songs that didn’t exist before, urging the people to dance and singing about their issues, which may also be yours.

recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,,,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival – the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

around was the first song from same language different worlds that everybody heard. tim burgess had sent a home made cd-r to lauren laverne as soon as the record was completed and she texted asking if a song could be featured on the 6music show that morning. peter gordon and tim had spent the precious few months crafting the album in new york, norfolk & manchester - tim sent the song to pete kember and proclaimed the resultant remix as “one of the best tracks i ve ever had the pleasure of being involved with”.

it was in june of 1980. after a long and intense journey through time and space, rupert marnie met spiritual highness frater loannis and became his apprentice. the magus told him invaluable things, like controlling his precious bodily fluids and the holistic mastery of others’ endocrine glands. the greatest wisdom though reached him on his seventh day, when frater loannis professed him an an-cient ritual that would allow him to meet the titan ufohagen, also known as cdboy. it was the 4th, when he appeared, dressed in a long, slim silk cloak, a sprinkling wand in his right. rupert stood in awe, immediately losing his newly gained fluid control, and started crafting a piece of music, that would remind mankind that not all is lost, as long as there is almighty ufohagen.

despite only a few releases, the electronic deep house sound of vibraphone records and the production team behind it had a major impact on the international 1990 s dance scene. the original 90 s vinyls are now considered precious collectors items. revitalized by an increasingly new young audience interest this label has reached a cult status and it is now been re-launched

experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with new birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by wu-tang clan, de la soul, junior m.a.f.i.a., black sheep, lil wayne, ice cube, and many more. the genesis of new birth can be traced back to the nite-liters, a louisville-based instrumental outfit. founded in 1963 by motown songwriter/producer harvey fuqua and saxophonist tony churchill, the nite-liters released a handful of albums in the early 70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power new birth to further success as the decade progressed. while much of the the nite liters’ early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. originally released on rca records in 1970, the nite liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by kmd, ghostface killah and others.
