lelio luttazzi was a multifaceted artist, a jazz lover (whose favourite pianist was erroll garner) who left his mark as a pianist, musician, conductor and composer. during a career spanning more than 50 years, he established himself as a master of several disciplines such as music, literature and cinema. “i miei stati d’animo” (my feelings) is one of his greatest records, where you’ll find all his irony and wittiness, his versatility and priceless talent. a beautiful easy listening jazz work, completely instrumental and way ahead of the time it was released (1971).

“dramatest” is a collection of experimental library music published in 1974 by fonovideo and signed by oscar rocchi (and his moniker chiarosi) - an excellent pianist and composer, who worked with many italian jazz heavyweights - and fabio fabor. “dramatest” consists of 14 slightly eccentric explorations of the electronic spectrum, casting pure experimentalism, melody and no fillers whatsoever. one of the best examples of the lost art of italian libraries!

fonits b 85, part of the legendary serie usignolo, which bears the signatures of the mysterious coscia (perhaps a moniker of accordionist gianni?) and formini, is another cult library music release: an orchestral pop record whose tracks are curiously recommended to accompany viewings of vast parks, footage of agriculture, ads, moving crowds and congested traffic jams, american working-class districts with hilarious titles such as dayda, schizzo, palmas, murlak (which casts an incredible fuzz guitar), bronx and ciresa facaud. in two words: a must!

“yuxtaposición” is a recently unearthed treasure recorded by a tight italian trio in miami during the early seventies. until now, this music has only been heard in office backgrounds, tv commercials and movie soundtracks. but the perseverance of an admirer brought about its first-ever release on the italian schema label. imagine hearing a 1972-era cal tjader quartet without cal tjader and you get an idea of what to expect. it’s slightly latin, lightly funky and truly enjoyable. “yuxtaposición” offers enough to interest a jazz listener. but the sounds heard in these 35 minutes are really better appreciated as mood music. lead man, cabildo, composer of all ten tunes here, has a knack for writing jazzy little hooks that launch his tasty, well-crafted keyboard solos. often alternating fender rhodes and piano within the same song, his playing maintains a hypnotic command that recalls bob james’ cti style. electric bassist bobby fares and percussionist max ronnie make subtle, supportive contributions that serve only to enhance cabildo’s sound. there’s a funny thing about yuxtaposición too. it’s kind of like developing an addiction. you may not pay much attention to it at first. but before you know it, you’re hooked. you need to hear it to be satisfied. a very nice surprise.

way ahead of their time, gruppo di improvvisazione nuova consonanza were an experimental collective fully based on improvised music. it was the only european group exclusively made of composers, instead of simple performers. the group tried to break the schemes by making use of new instruments and electronic effects, reinventing new timbres, using the voice in an unconventional way. they were also known for the presence of ennio morricone on trumpet who, at the same time (1966), was also working as a soundtrack composer for sergio leone’s western movies!

if you are among those who own the two previous braens machine lps, underground and quarta pagina, youre probably already well aware of one of italian library music best kept secrets, that is the real identities of those hiding behind the pseudonyms braen and gisteri. these were the monikers of alessandro alessandroni and oronzo de filippi, directed by piero umiliani and his record label liuto. with temi ritmici e dinamici (rhythmic and dynamic themes) the plot thickens and gives us two other aliases to unveil, with each of them signing one of the two sides of the album: g. ugolini and awake, we believe, though, that the already mentioned alessandroni and de filippi also hide behind these nicknames.

due to a perhaps too buoyant and unfitting title and to a ridicolously limited distribution (even at the time of its original release), fischiando in beat (whistling in beat) has often been ignored despite being one of the most entertaining works signed by piero umiliani (here accompanied by his orchestra). originally released in 1969, fischiando in beat presents twelve gems of instrumental beat music, fabulous specimen of that music genre often labelled with the much-abused term lounge – or easy listening, if you prefer. forget about the experimental synthi time (to name another umiliani classic recently reissued by schema records) and abandon any intellectual ambitions: here you can only breathe an incredible desire for fun and dream of the late 60s, rome and its exclusive cocktail party.

synthi time is perhaps one of the most suitable albums within umilianis incredibly vast discography to fully appreciate the composing and experimental genius of the maestro. for once away from the classic soundtracks that made him popular, this project veers away also from refined works of library music such as gentie paesi del mondo (people and countries of the world) or problemi d oggi (todays issues), released under the moniker of zalla. in this case, we like to imagine him absorbed in his sound work shop studio, experimenting with synthesizers with the same enthusiasm of a newbie in search of the perfect sound. without renouncing to pop(ular) elements, umiliani seems almost to anticipate (or at least to be fully consistent with) the sound research that will characterize the careers of musicians such as roedelius and moebius in germany.

do hipsters love sun (ra)? a title that condenses the almost conceptual nature of this album: on one hand, a tribute to sun ra, one of the most profound and revolutionary characters in the history of music, capable of giving a new meaning to the word cosmic, a messenger who came from outer space to bring new spirituality and vision. on the other hand the word hipster – to this day a synonym of naught and superficiality, but with deep socio-political and aesthetical roots: jack kerouac, for example, described hipsters as people rising and roaming america, bumming and hitchhiking everywhere as characters of a special spirituality. hipsters were innovators in the first place, cultural explorers driven by the desire for novelty and experimentation.

angeli bianchi... angeli neri is one of the best results of the collaboration between piero umiliani and director luigi scattini. filmed in brazil, angeli bianchi... angeli neri (also known as witchcraft 70) is one of scattinis most popular mondo films. however in an exagerated way, as was common at the time, the aim of the movie was to document the world of black magic, devil worshipping and pagan rituals. through the years it has reached the status of cult movie along with mondo cane (a dogs world) and africa addio. the vinyl lp includes a bonus cd.

this is the second movie with zeudi araya, filmed in a hurry to take advantage of the success of the previous la ragazza dalla pelle di luna. la ragazza fuoristrada, set between egypt and ferrara, deals in an unusual way with the theme of racial integration, still a taboo at the time especially in remote italian provinces. despite the fact that the title evokes the legendary dune buggy (the main character, luc merenda, is a journalist who goes to egypt to test it), this is not an action movie but on the contrary it favours intimist atmospheres. the vinyl lp includes a bonus cd.

in 2009 we started up pink flamingo entertainment as a sub label of another world entertainment. it s aim was to release vintage and quality porn on dvd and vod, as a counterpart to the cold and mechanical commercial porn of the mainstream. the first release was ole ege s .pornografi (1971), which we put out in 2009. ole ege was one of the pioneers of danish porn, working from the period leading up to the legalisation of pornography in denmark in 1969 and up until a few years after that.
