emotional rescue certainly laid a claim for the most esoteric of reissue endeavours last year, and they are looking to maintain this approach in 2013. their first release sees the label dig further into the cassette archives of kevin harrison, focusing specifically on the neo project the coventry musician did in cahoots with fellow electronic explorer, peter every from neophyte records. as you can tell from the primitive drum heavy tone of the music, neo surfaced in 1985 with the 8 track cassette release global network. this twelve presents five of those tracks, all of which echo the pulsing electronic rhythms of the fly ep, emotional rescues previous harrison reissue, and will find as much favour with those who sleep on the left side of disco as fans of cold wave.

with mgf022 we open the sound-universe with and for ilia ferrein from novosibirsk, russia. with meeting sea & hover, ferrein creates a perfect, clear, dreamy and reduced as well as an euphoric dubsound atmoshpere, with little moments full of magic melodies. the proper counterpart and highlight remix on the b-site is presented by doyen robag wruhme. there is no further introduction needed, we think...his remix of meeting sea includes his typically energetic, nearly hypnotic sound and it grooves as always keeping the focus on the original track at the same time.

after sides from matthew burton, seuil and albert schwartz, sammy dees ultrastretch label returns in 2013 with volkan akin. a regular presence at berlin institutions like club der visionäre, akin has been slowly rolling out his brand of prickly, spaced-out club tracks since the end of the last decade, both under his own name and as v for volkan. but if volkan akin has up until now been unfamiliar beyond germany, his ultrastretch debut, voltage, featuring an absolute beast of a ricardo villalobos remix, stands to turn more than a few heads in his direction. densely packed and intricately constructed, voltage is an extended groove you can get lost in. cymbals ring softly amidst whirrs of faintly melodic clicks, scratches and voices. but at the center of akins churning, percussive arrangement lies a warm and weighty kick sure to keep dancers pinned to the floor. like so many great perlon records, voltage can be taken as a deeply considered exercise in sound design or as a deadly club track simultaneously, with akins musical sophistication and knack for an inviting beat working hand-in-hand. the original mix spends over 11 minutes unraveling, but as you fall further into the swirl of akins interlocking rhythms, youre likely to stop counting. a shorter constant voltage mix evokes sunrise, pulling back the originals heft to reveal gorgeous pads and hints of organic rhythm. ricardo villalobos, sammys longtime label mate at perlon and a producer who likely needs no introduction, digs deeper into the thump at the heart of voltage on his acdc remix. focusing on the originals wisps of melody, villalobos turns in a warm, zoned-in remix that feels of a piece with the singular techno trips found on his recent lp dependent and happy

with local talk release no. 30 we are moving further into territories of straight up no fuss dance floor action. already having releases on dirt crew recordings, murmur & hypercolour elef knows a thing or two about delivering jacking tracks. wake up call comes in two versions. the original version is a kick & snare pattern driven monster track with heavy arpeggios and deep pads. on the flip brennan green doesnt hold back either. the main melodic pattern together with percussions is unleashed straight on and as the tracks evolves he adds tr-303 lines making the track even more epic. as elef described the remix as perfect for a panorama bar set. the remix is worthy enough based on that one side alone.

midland, dusky, bicep, and now, glimpse. aus music continue to push further forward into 2013 with another collection of carefully curated tracks from the london-based producer, christopher spero.

ever since stephen sharp and roc jiménez de cisneros embarked on the deconstructive process they refer to as rave synthesis, the goal was to come up with odd relatives of well established sounds in techno culture by constantly messing with the original recipes, expanding the tropes, and hinting at novel paths for contemporary psychedelia. almost three years after the influential rave slime, their fifth long player takes the idea one step further.

mr. oleg poliakov joins the phonogramme team. also known for his releases under the skat moniker, olegs early production career was built on creating beats for hip-hop mcs and lending his studio skills to rappers. switching to radio production, he went onto to work with french national stations, further enhancing his technical skills. it was at this time his began to explore electronic music as a composer. with a sound that strays from specifics, he looks to create his own compositions using a subtle combo of all electronic worlds. his early releases on labels including karat and sthlmaudio won him acclaim, but it is his releases for circus company that have really put him on the map.

versalife returns to the clone west coast series for more under sea level electro-techno.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. 3 track 12 from new but not new artist anno stamm. an alias of berlin producer lars stöwe aka anstam who has been one of our favourite producers around all city towers these last few years. original with a capital o, anno stamm is allowing him to fiddle about in the undergrowth even further. raw and twisted, dark with a dash of colour and heavy with the drums. 3 tracks in all, and those of a certain vintage should be able to spot the sample on lead track * i still have the photographs*. as always for those to whom such things matters - theres the usual full colour shrink-wrapped artwork with a download code.

axel boman and petter nordkvist of swedens studio barnhus momentarily shine a mirror ball onto their usual punch-drunk house for their debut release as man tear. a collaboration with vocalist j. jonason, outside amore is a trilling slab of spacious disco, the loping drums and chiming synthesizer accents pirouetting in tandem with jonasons tremulous delivery. the yearning vox of the original are kinetic on their own, but the dub further accosts jonason with all manner of interplanetary commotion and shards of tambourine.

ethereal, haunted deep house music from beyond the grave, spirit-channeling from the deepest recesses of electro-spiritual obscurity. the slow to speak label presents its latest offering—a residual of the holy-era of the ny underground continuum, conjuring the ritual and pomp of the new electronic goth without abandoning its undeniable roots in the techno/deep house story. dark-matter melodies interlock in an ever off-centering orbit of sparse percussive return, while the distorted exhortations of some wandering intergalactic phantasm whisper menacingly just beneath the surface. trance-inducing, strangely unsettling and ultimately transcendent—further evidence that electronic music can transport its listeners into the fertile pastures of the sublime like any other high art. clear vinyl pressing with japanese obi.

after sweating out the winter heatwave generated by chris mitchell and grey people with proper trax 4, alex falk distills a purified form of techno from the often unnecessary complexities of the style. terse—the fifth limited twelve from proper trax–further solidifies the labels unflinching commitment to the rough n tough sounds of the southern us underground. dont sleep, as this one is aimed to take its place in the record bags of the globes in-the-know heads. measure ones approach for a drastic result.

figures creator, len faki, returns with volume 2 in his dj-edits series, featuring 2 intense reworkings of jpls and mikael jonasson. having already released volume 1 in 2012, with two bass-heavy edits of classic dj hyperactive material, faki expands the series further, choosing two more tracks from his personal archive of special edits made for his dj sets.

young belgian producer locked groove (aka tim van de meutter) cements an increasingly central role in the hotflush family fold with the release of the two part heritage ep. since his debut on the label, tim has propagated what he himself has termed 100% house and techno, combining elements of the big room, the deep and moody and straight up four-to-the-floor both into the space of a single track, and across the length of an ep. taking a marked step on from last years rooted and keep it simple eps, heritage pursues a joining of musical dots between and beyond classic house and techno, from the kerri chandler-esque house of *wear it well* through the epic landscaping of *lost* to *dream within a dream* blade runner beach party. in this collection, the young producer delivers two sets of three outstanding, genre-straddling tracks that further help to bolster hotflushs legacy as one of the most forward-thinking labels operating in 2013.

disko404 is a long-established promotional crew based in graz, austria, whose renowned monthly events are all about celebrating the bass in dubstep, funky, house, juke, grime, hip hop, electro, and experimental sounds. in 2012 they branched out as a record label, launching with a well-received split ep from sun people & franjazzco, followed up by simon/offs *take it back* ep. the labels third release comes from legendary broken beat and drum & bass producer colin lindo, aka nubian mindz, aka alpha omega. the man needs no further introduction as he is known for his brilliant releases on labels like reinforced, 2000black, archive, delsin and many more. *hacker wacker* is hypnotizing with sharp beats and a dubby, bleepy, broken techno vibe ready to take you on a sweaty late night trip. *vox & cymbal* is true listening bliss, a timeless tune centered around warm detroit chords, downpitched vocals and spiralling synthlines, sending you on a dream-like journey. vinyl pressing strictly limited to 250 copies only. early support from scuba, untold, and 2562.

after the huge success that was ak101 – the ghetto, suonho is back with two tracks to further the series, 74 & 77. this release has been a long time in the making, but suonho is firmly back in his ghetto vibe! killer!

the first release on project squared in a year, *make your mess* is a three track ep by melbournes craig mcwhinney. craig has been making music for years and releasing since the late 2000s on melbourne labels such as pinksilver, melbourne deepcast and his own haul music, also on labels based further afield such as brendon moellers steadfast and speedy js electric deluxe. craigs music is techno, but it isnt preoccupied with the 4/4, employing broken, swung and rolling drum patterns. his tracks often include melodic and harmonic elements and effects reminiscent of dub techno but without conforming to the pastiche template of the sub-genre. the make your mess ep is composed of the core title track and two additional tracks that arose as interpretations and variations on the initial production: *provocation is an excuse* is more furious and loud, *disengage* is more restrained. all three are around 125 bpm and were produced in the space of a month between september and october 2012.

greek native john dimas is fast becoming highly respected in the house game and his living lies ep on la vie en rose, an excellent cross-section of the different styles and vibes of house music, should help to further cement that reputation.

saveds second release for 2013 comes from label debutant julien chaptal who presents the 2 track *illin ep*.
fist up on the a side is *eat ya foe*, a track which is built on unique percussion that possesses a warm bit crush effect. these foundations support the bouncing bassline which has an acid feel to it that works well against the potent vocals.
further damage is caused on the flip with *illin* where the rolling drums build nicely into the engaging lead line that advances through the track with filters and variations.

feverish new eaux release, limited white vinyl 1st edition, printed disco bag. although rroses alma mater record label sandwell district may now be defunct, the actively ambiguous american producer shows no signs of slowing down. after launching his own experimental techno label eaux earlier this year and making true-to-name appearances dressed as a sophisticated, chic female, rrose has continued to pursue elusiveness while ironically garnering an enthusiastic following amongst techno purists. without a doubt, the release of > wedge of chastity< will further reinforce the sonic niche that the eaux label has carved out for itself.

ozs inkswel sends an irresistible four track package zig zagging across the globe to the door of fort unthank on the banks of loch firecracker, somewhere in the mists of scotland, via his very own powerful boogie powered super collider. opener do it is how its done, atomic funk which has been split, stretched and closely inspected, then reassembled to create a dancefloor chain reaction. the funk particles then pass through the americas and pick up the one and only chico mann. a man known for his like minded awareness of, and abilities with, the worldwide ways of the electric boogaloo, he adds his abstract afro cuban theories to tu machito. next, its a sharp turn eastwards to the old countries, whilst riding the waves of lfo bounce. uks funkineven, another kindred spirit in the search for man made machine soul, provides further refinement to the initial wave hypothesis, resulting in a glimpse of the elusive dark matter that is often talked about, but rarely seen or heard

assemble music returns with a three-track ep from colognes david joseph aka st. joseph, exploring further the refined, tripping path forged on the labels previous release from daze maxim. the pianos, vocal snatches and ambient hiss of josephs releases on platzhirsch are present and correct, but here the jazz flourishes are reduced down into something far slicker. these tracks have been prepared using a keen blade, and none sharper than >personal dancefloor<. heavy drum programming and a rumbling bottom end bring to mind theo parrish in his moodier moments, but the deal is sweetened by light piano, garage-like vocal samples and a deep, burning 4 love bassline. >indigo< spins the duke ellington classic into a spiralling, shuffling chugger that will bring a 30s harlem spirit to enterprising dancefloors. move the needle to the b2, though, for the eps party hit. written in 2009 and reflecting that years raw arrangements and joyous samples, >wave/table/muscle< finally gets a vinyl release, proving this sound endures to this day. expect more of the same from assemble music with their next release featuring vera and ricardo villalobos.

slowly building, soul-soothing, and disco-fuelled house with a nod to both the great masters from chicago and the new electronic breed. lisbon producer and lux resident ramboiage likes to take it slow to take things further. >del fuego< kicks off modestly with a simple beat and some light percussion, creating and eerie mood. but then some tasty, disco-fuelled heavy house kicks in, and the tune starts to roll unstoppable, riding on a horn hook. funky like a train, as the mighty equals would say. spanish om records darling al velilla steps up the pace a little bit and lets the original float over some tasty discohouse beats and eighties-flavoured synths.

fachwerk boss and dubby techno don mike dehnert steps away from his usual home for a new ep on delsin entitled!umgangston. its not his first time on the label following last years fachwerk album, but it does see him cast his sonic net a little further afield.
