on the flip we have brian protheroes >pinball<. a lost psychedelic pop classic which got to number 22 in the charts in 1974. a staunch ashley beedle fave with his tripped reworking doing exactly what i says on the tin. dubbed, stretched, spaced out and arranged to perfection. great!

gethigh is a new track release from laid back. the lyrics may instantly lead your mind onto thinking of cannabis but try to think about it in a broader context, in a more universal way. we all want to get high whatever we do in life, in all walks of life, in spirits, sports, politics, showbusiness, all kind of business, in school and education and not to forget love. musically the groove is kept in the recognizable family of the horse, with an updated twist. actually the song was born in key of major, as a more rock guitar riff kinda song included in the package. also included is an ultra minimalistic version, mainly made on ipad. danish electronic musician and dj kasper bjørke has done a really cool remix. finally we made a space mix, mainly for our own pleasure and for those who like to get out there and more into it. a video is in the final editing stage, following the style of beautiful day and cocaine cool, with self made animation. music is more than a trendy sound and a fancy look. laid back is always going for something personal, original and timeless. copenhagen, september 2011.

west coasts king & hound (james glass & dj garth) strike again with two more killer edits: my time your time a guitar driven german rock jam from 1980 that easily gets re-edited into a cosmic disco cut and tubular bells which a cover of mike oldfields classic used in halloween.

after years, this vinyl-wielding 4-piece originating from brighton — the one and only soft rocks — have finally committed their collective wit to a slew of original tunes. >we hunt buffalo now< is a punky dub monster serving as the first single in a series surrounding their = imminent debut album, >the curse of soft rocks<. in an age where any laptop-savvy poseur can upload their bland nu-disco or faux-chi-house directly to the cesspool of digitally downloadable fodder, it is more than refreshing to hear this cheeky bunch blending a mixed bag of instrumentation and obscure influences so recklessly. guest vocals are provided by san francisco post-punk hero jorge socarras (vocalist of indoor life and songwriter for patrick cowley). in case that wasnt enough, flip her over for the genius remix by andrew weatherall, a bonafide glam stomper that slaps you across the face with a fuzzy bassline and greaseball guitar chords. pure class.

connan mockasins willingness to toy with the edges of musical convention is showcased to startling effect in >faking jazz together<, its typically opaque title belying a gorgeous, leisurely amble through an enchanted forest of lush psychedelia, complete with dreamy guitar licks, liquefied salsa rhythms and mockasins trademark alien vocals, sounding like a transmission from another cosmos, ghostly yet strangely affecting all at once. tom furse from the horrors, meanwhile, extrapolates the beats from the original and relocates them in a wide-eyed, sprawling dub epic akin to screamadelica-era primal scream, and renowned german producer (and kompakt lynchpin) michael mayer builds a propulsive, tropical-flavoured anthem around mockasins unusual vocals, with delightfully unpredictable results. even better, you can see connan mockasin in glorious live action this autumn, when he and his band embark on their own headline tour of the uk, playing dates across the country at the end of september. having already toured with warpaint in the summer, as well as scoring the first short film from acclaimed video director kinga burza, and collaborating with the idiosyncratic likes of charlotte gainsbourg and sam eastgate of late of the pier, it is certain that the eccentric pleasures of connan mockasin arent going to stay a cult secret for too much longer.

flying donkey music, after the first two releases by samuel l session and kirk degiorgio got the respect as one of the new more interesting labels in the underground stream. as third release we can appreciate the homeboy claudio mates m2g4: he shows us something new and different, which is hard to catalogue, just a techno/house track or a simple piece of electronic music. tribute mix by claudio mate is a perfect journey in deep, dark, emotional, emotive lands within an amazing epic ending with guitars played by luca petrosino (an italian guitar talent). orlando voorn really doesnt need any introduction: his deep divine mix is the perfect mix and balance between raw grooves, melodies and solid bassline like his usual trademark. its perfect for dancefloor people who loves berghain or fabric. david hausdorf is a classical musician from the munich philharmonic orchestra but he is also well known for his old works on labels such as synaptic waves, styrax leaves, salo, lifetime music.

edit king leo zero returns with something very special to kick off a new run of no frills dancefloor bombs that have been tried and tested over the summer on a packed worldwide dj schedule from stockholm to tokyo and beyond. first up is an intensive slice and dice exercise on probably the best track from definitely the best band in the world: the clash. leo takes their most disco friendly outing >the maginificent dance< famously spun by mr levan at the garage - and with the more dubby rare levan version he homes in on looped 1 bar sections, skating along to create a new arrangement - added to the brew are bootleg recordings form the clashes infamous live show at nycs bonds ballroom, and even some baseline demos digitally siphoned from people practicing guitar along to the clash on youtube!….. we are left with is an epic labour of love edit that has already found its way into the a-listers record boxes - from derrick carter to laurent garnier who are all spinning this solid as a rock dub disco bomb. on the flip we have a classy house re-work of al hudson & partners >music< which sticks a chi-town kick and snare up its rear end along with some serious sub bass, and in the middle things get all wobbly with some trademark leo zero space echo rides and before we are quickly warped back-in and onto the floor… big with a load of top jocks too including severino of horse meat disco fame.

following on from their club smash >high on life<, east west connection aka dr bob jones and lofty offer a full on jazz tinged sizzler complete with horns, percussion and hint of latin thrown in for good measure. alongside lofty and bobs musical craftsmanship >we re movin on< showcases the amazing vocal talent of funk singer sandy mill. piping hot latino jazz groove guaranteed to set dance floors alight!

barcelona-born rainer grew up in california, but it was his move to london in 2007 which led him to start collaborating with cesare vs disorder, playing out around town and beginning his production career with the popular >neuralgia< under his belt. the obvious next step for him was to hitch his wagon onto the well-traveled route onto berlin where he now presents his second release on cesares serialism records. >x-berg to san diego<, a production in conjunction with the labels head honcho, a paean to his newly adopted stomping ground and the town of his youth. a tough house beat leads with a funky guitar picking out groove along the way, an oscillating vocal hovering into earshot as old-school snares jack it up.

his single comes to people that make the music records from one of house musics most eminent production teams: first ibiza lady alla farmer, mateo & matos and ukrainian singer and producer vincent inc, chris gray from deep4life, jazzy house veteran john crockett and uplifting deep king brendan mccarthy aka aquatherium. though not stereo-typically their style, this set of tunes give good credence to their soft house music production ability. they set the scene for sounds entering as a funky bassline, squealy guitar riff, and classic 4/4 drum loop. john remix consist mainly of dubby bubbly conga rhythms, cosmic chords, floaty synths, musical saw tones and a nice rubbery bassline. aquatherium remix is pure non-intrusive, house music that is great for the sunset beach session or even the roller disco! chris & alla made eclectique deep house which is just a dope! the remixed single tracks have been mixed together to give it a beefy blend that would be perfect for the floor of many poorly lit dance dwellings. people that make the music has stepped forward with a brilliant ep of insatiable grooves.

decas are the artists. neaples is the place. you can have an instant breeze of his seafunk thru the carefully layered harmonics of dramas, a saxophone is hosting the grooves of this heavy blended and heavy rolled drum story. the suspance gets heavier and heavier while the drums and percussions starts movin into a total robotic-jam-style groove, chugging over a straight drum machine beat. the remaining of the neaples-funk-band is joining now, bassguitar and some guitar tappin.. but the whole thing get seriously stripped down while some deep-as-fuck chords drops in. pure 8am party drama. on the flip our berlin based italian talents analogue cops deliver some more dj friendly version of the original take, the first one see all the harmonics carefully re-layered over an overdrivin tape-house beat, lucretio and marieu full on machines for a proper panorama bar anthem. ua! on the second take our analog heroes are goin heavy on dubs, a sweepy synth and a chugging groove drive the track into a more steppy direction, the voice and the chords are now used to hypnotize the dancefloor. zombie breakdance. 350 copies limited edition only vinyl

the dark defender ep delivers 3 great house to techhouse tracks from label boss oddvar. the titel track the dark defender is a driven techhouse monster with a catchy bassline and a significant vocal sample. better call saul is a pure rythm techhouse tune and dont need to shine is a smooth summer track with a really nice guitar line

rather lightweight live album, only thirty four minutes long, three songs and some painful applause herding for an encore. the line-up is essentially the girls line-up, though john g. perry s been replaced by an also-excellent mike wedgwood. the production is clear but the mix misjudged: the admittedly nicely brought out bass sound dwarfs all other elements. in particular, pye hastings guitar is very low, the drums never seem to match the bass volume.

500 limited edition 180 gram vinyl double album that comes with 32 page comic novel. written and illustrated by ulrich troyer. songs for william is the first in a trilogy of experimental dub projects from ulrich troyer and deep medi musik. ulrich troyer was born in innsbruck and raised in tyrol austria, he studied architecture and music at university and now resides in vienna where he lives and works as a freelance artist and musician. ulrich has been producing music and experimenting with electronics for over 10 years on various projects that include soundtracks for movies, dance productions, exhibitions and sound installations. since 2005 ulrich has also been performing live as a member of the vegetable orchestra.songs for william sees ulrich explore his love for dub music and the experimentations of pioneers such as king tubby, sound dimension and rhythm and sound alongside the influences of mulatu, tony allen and the psychedelic sounds of selda. to accompany this release is the first part chapter of a comic novel featuring the main character william (a guitar effect pedal!) and his journey! all analogue synthesizers, effects, stompboxes, samplers, guitars, percussion and melodica played, programmed, recorded and dubbed by ulrich troyer at the 4bit studio vienna.

container is a recent moniker of nashville, tennessee resident ren schofield who has been actively shifting about the u.s. playing shows and releasing cassettes on his mysterious i just live here imprint for a long while now. known primarily for his god willing project, a disjointed, confusing, maze of crude oscillator, tape, and guitar, ren has established himself as a staple in the east coast underground.
here we have a new experiment in electronic beat oriented music. this is no standard fare, however. it glows with a vision all its own, completely isolated and separate making it difficult to place in the awkward world of the genre. the sounds are a thick stew congealing new ideas and naive experiments into something in the ballpark of the new super weird wolfgang voigt 12 inches, abstract and minimal in nature with time stopping tendencies. take those 12 inches and send them thru the garbage can, tape loop, reel to reel experiments of ake hodells >220 volt buddha< or that weird track with lawnmower by charles amirkhanian on the first slowscan volume and we might be getting closer.

extremely welcome reissue of one of the shining stars of the boogie firmament - the hugely funky >its you thats happening< from little known band exquisite taste. originally released on tiny new york label starlite back in 1984, this was exquisite tastes only output but what the band lacked in quantity they made up for in quality. a near-perfect example of that early 80s boogie sound, this has it all - insistent mesmerising moog synth riffs, clean crisp percussion, layers of summery vibes and superb catchy vocals combine to make this an unstoppable dancefloor sensation. and thats just the vocal... on the flip, the instrumental is stunning with a sparser arrangement which highlights the grooving bassline, funky guitar work and echoing hypnotic drumwork. with the original 12” virtually impossible to get hold of, this quality reissue is an absolute must-have!

quality reissue of the mega-rare blow up records release of the italo masterpiece pink footpath by loui$. originally released in 1985, this gem has become one of the most highly sought after italo disco tracks around. on the a side is magic dance which is good, but it’s the instrumental version of the track pink footpath that really gets the disco djs drooling. with its killer analogue b-line, dreamy synths and balearic guitar riffs, its easy to see why it became such an anthem at the early ibiza parties as well as a late night favourite in chicago and new york. highly recommended.

the highly anticipated squeaky lobster ep has been worth every second of the wait. in terms of sample / synth selection, song structure and sound quality, no expense has been spared. hi-fi synthetic drums intertwine with lo-fi sampled kicks & snares whilst heavy stretched out synth bass lines are topped with bollywood-esque string samples, 80s guitar bridges & plenty of other orchestral mayhem. the lush, thick melodic layers mount up into a frequently spine-tingling whole whilst the rhythm section, although outside the box, does by no means neglect the headnod factor. the incredible feat here is that although no 8 bars are quite the same as the next, a sense of unity is preserved within each genre-defying track, making it the stuff of epic journeys. you may start your listening experience in front of your turntable, staring at the record spinning, but you will end up somewhere quite different, squeaky lobster has made sure of that. as man from phone number 770021 would say: >this is $50.000. good luck.<

golden earring have been together since 1961 and the current line-up includes two founding members george kooymans (vocals and guitar) and rinus gerritsen (bass, keyboard) along with barry hay (vocals, guitar, flute and saxophone) a member since 1968 and cesar zuiderwijk (drums) a member since 1970.
they have had over 40 hits and 30 albums, many achieving either gold or platinum status in their home country, the netherlands. they are best known for their 1973 hit single >radar love< and their 1982 single >twilight zone<.
the album >contraband< was originally released in 1976. its the first album that features the former cuby and the blizzards blues guitarist eelco gelling which makes it a very guitar orientated album.

tommy walker 3 has been hiding for a while now, after releasing a slew of material in 2008 (including a release on the sadly defunct dissident). now hes back with >dance music clubbing<, and with a name like this youd probably expect this ep to either be a bit off the wall, or unintentionally awful. we are glad to say it fits into the former category, offering an ep of colourful elastic space disco mixed with a more classic vibe. opener >disconnected< sets the tone with its 80s, verging on hair metal guitar riffs. >mwj1< impresses with its almost seinfeld-esque slap bass, and synth piano stabs while >errational< is characterised by its wonky synth melody and spaced-out laser gurgles. finally >v brains< melds driving live bass with huge slabs of cosmic squelch. if you like your disco fierce, this will definitely be worth a look

supported by tornado wallace (delusions of grandeur), pete herbert (reverso 68/dance disorder)... when jay shepheard launched retrofit in early 2010, deep house with a splash of disco was on the menu. six releases later and the quality of music hasnt faltered once. jays own work has always been the main focus on all five releases but for retrofit 6, rudys midnight machine, (who is in fact robin lee of faze action) takes to the stage alongside an appearance from shepheard (as ee_ef_ex) on remixing duties. >ecstatic love glow< kicks off the ep, diving head first into the disco and synth heavy realm that we expect from retrofit (and, for that matter, from mr lee), whose house outputs with faze action as far back as 97 speak for themselves. the intro of tip tapping hats and congas leads into a penetrating bass guitar, a riff that goes on to be cleverly mirrored by keyboards and later, by what sounds like a scratchy lakland guitar. wooden hats, sirens and a plethora of cosmic elements boogie their way around until the tracks dominant synth parades in and takes over the arrangement, striking a dramatic and smug pose at the close of each stab. the second track of >east side good living< sticks with its predecessors groove, cosmic sirens, electronic whistles and metallic drum taps yet again highlighting rudys modern disco sound

mother focus is their 1975 studio album which marks a departure from the progressive rock style that dominated the band s prior work, to a poppier, often disco influenced direction. it is focus last studio album that features the notorious jan akkerman on guitar.

sintope drops another hot release from their catalogue down to the 12 junkies. a groovy primetime tune with a catchy guitar-hook completed with a great remix by david labeij (remote area, intacto,sunset handjob).

downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from tropic of cancer. two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of angelo badalamenti in >twin peaks< mode, or maybe reservoir dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. as badalamenti himself said of his own work, >my (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. i think of it as tragically beautiful. that is how i would describe what i love best: tragically beautiful.< seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...

all tracks written by mika vainio, except open up and bleed by iggy pop / james williamson. whereas previous works by mika vainio have utilized guitar life (… it eats you up) is the first to use the instrument as its primary sound source. a fascinating, sometimes disturbing and deeply personal work this new 10 track set bears all the hallmarks (exacting attention to detail of tone, rhythm and texture) of vainios previous works with some stunning surprises, such as his cover version of the stooges open up and bleed. tracks such as mining hark bark to the banging beat excesses of pan sonic, with crashed and and give us our daily humiliation and the opening in silence a scream takes a heart reveal a new intensity to vainios work and is yet another superb addition to his already brilliant catalogue

the word genius is not a term we like to use loosely when speaking about our artists but giorgio sancristoforo aka tobor experiment fits the bill. a gifted musician, soft synth designer, found sound pioneer and he still finds time to make forward thinking disco pop for bearfunk as tobor experiment >disco experience<.
after a well received ep in 2008 we sent giorgio back to the studio with the remit to make an lp so special that it could open new doors for us. well he certainly delivered! opening with the sweet modern disco sounds of >postcards from a nervous breakdown< we then get the first taste of giorgios song writing prowess with >breathe< a rather intense little number.

sao paulos techno titan returns. gui boratto needs little introduction - after all he has played pretty much every corner of the globe, placing himself as one of the most in-demand producers and performers in dance music today. its summer and kompakts bomb for the season is about to explode. just in time for his extensive european tour throughout july. the drill embraces the classic kompakt shaffel but delivered in a chalice of class that only gui boratto is capable of drinking from. a roaring bass line that sways side to side in layers of euphoric harmony. bold – brazen. boratto. stems from hell is classic boratto. guitar-esque chording launches this depth charge that is just pure build. tension and release – you sense this track can almost breath on its own. the moments are near perfect in this swelling that reaches a fever pitch right when you think it would never come. there will be more from gui boratto in 2011....stay tuned.

the fried tofu crew follow up their excellent first course with another tasty selection! on the a-side sweet soulful voices catch you from the first try on. but dont be hasty, or you will burn your tongue. this is hot and far from being a dessert. after the first impression of sweetness, you will feel the spicy taste coming through. we all love that slight burning on the lips, making you really feel the feel. the first cut on the b-side digs even deeper into sweetness. somehow everything seems to be so lovely, each time this one is played out. its clear that even the ruff guys cant resist the taste of honey. real sweet and spicy, thats how its got to be. things are straightened out on the final cut, which finishes off the meal with a raw funk jam. the extended guitar groove gets back to the basics. sometimes few essential things, combined in the right way, can be all you need. a typical mistake when preparing a meal is to add too many different spices.

from his roots in early italo disco , a sound that inspired him since his childhood, this mysterious producer comes out with a genuine gem of pure balearic and disco mood, among the use of real hardware and various instruments creating this classic extended disco version that sounds in an actual disco edit style, even if the song is brand new. leading the voice is the huge, a magical voice and multi instrumentalist from italy: the combo between the two is explosive, mellow and at the same time light and pure. then the remix by melchior sultana, famous for his collaboration with owen jay on jus eds label (underground quality), creates a magical and elegant slow tempo version, chilled and funk at the same time, with a totaly new mood and some real rhodes and guitar played and sequenced in an akai mpc sampler. last the house electro disco dont play minimal, play minigolf, that follows a hypnotic mood bass synth, accomplished with ethereal chords and a super funky trumpet, sampled directly from will powers masterpiece of the early 80s…. ta ta taaa

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

cascabel gentz is an ambitious side project of two producers who are always on the run - los angeles resident apendics.shuffle and dilo from buenos aires. since 2009 they get together in the studio and create an individual mix of house, techno and minimal spiced with their own vocals and guitar riffs. this very personal and organic mood reflects on the new record >electric high<. the original tracks are complemented by an excessive remix collection. gurtz and alejandro mosso play their part to make this ep a prime example for todays music culture network.
