with his own label and last year’s feature on alix perez’s newly conceived 1985 music, compa still found time to delver his 3rd medi release. with no signs of slowing down his mission to produce and share music….
ith 8 singles and 2 full album releases, silkie scontribution to his home deep medi musik and dubstep, is outstanding. the lost tapes (vol. 1) is no exception. digging deep into his old computers and archives he found music that even his close circle of producers knew nothing about. this record shows why silkie is still heavily in demand today. his output is both consistent and innovative, likehis playing style. he describes playing shows >as my second studio<. if you have seen him play youll understand why. with dmz, fwd and rinse fm as his training ground hes collecting international miles as far as new zealand, australia, japan, usa, europe and back home right here in london, uk. this record is his next offering to both his loyal and new fans
city limits vol 1.6-1.8 completes a hat trick of releases from silkie on deep medi musik and last before his highly anticipated and long overdue new album city limits vol. 2. this heavyweight four track ep sees silkie deliver a diverse helping of his unique style. >its late< with its catchy vocal hook, driving drums and surging synth owes as much to silkies early garage influences as it does to the sound of detroit techno, >float< and >murky< are all about the weighty dub influenced bass lines and keys alongside the super deep melodies and groove, finally the bumpin >techfunk< with its piercing synth, frenetic drums and g-funk style bass rounds off the ep perfectly keeping you wanting more and hungry for the next installment. radio support: benji b (radio 1), dva scratcha (rinse), gilles peterson (radio 1), mistajam (1xtra & radio 1), sinden (kiss fm), j 5ive (antisocial) (rinse). dj support: mala (dmz), skream, benga, toddla t, joe nice (dub war).
silkie returns with his first release on deep medi since his much talked about solo album city limits vol.1. city limits vol 1.2 is the first release in a series of four singles in the run up to his new and highly anticipated album city limits vol. 2 scheduled for release early 2011. city limits vol 1.2 will not feature on the album and will be available on limited 12 inch and download. dj support: mala (dmz), skream, joe nice (dub war/united states), quest, j 5ive, kromestar and all antisocial entertainment.
set to shine in 2010, mizz beats is the 22 year old from hackney (east london) who aided and abetted labelmate silkie in the creation of one of this years certified bangers: purple love. earning her stripes in the midst of the uks grime scene, she has already produced for the likes of dizzee rascal, jammer and lady sovereign and she is undoubtedly one of the anti social entertainment cliques brightest prospects alongside quest, silkie, kromestar, j5, harry craze and heny g.
a/t/o/s 1st album brought shows supporting tricky (ab brussels), melanie de biasio (prague), live at london s famous jazz cafe, notting hill arts club, worldwide festival, electric brixton, pukkelpop and many more venues & countries across eu & uk. the 2nd album outboxed, due for vinyl release o has support from mary anne hobbs, worldwide radio, red bull elektropedia, radio brussels etc + many tour dates already in the calendar. 12inch vinyl
once a tectonic mainstay, jack sparrow was last seen on a 12″,,, release with afraid of me for mala’s deep medi musik back in 2012. almost 30 releases on from that, deep medi coax the leeds-based artist back into the limelight with the three-track exercise in bassweight pressure hold & pull. there’s a thrilling moodiness to the title track, huge waves of sub bass adding a sense of unease to the rippling kicks and dread-infused vocal samples. “pula riddim” is a deep dub science ode to outlook festival, superb stepper vibes on this one, whilst “where am i” finds sparrow veering off into darkside, cinematic territory.
repress in generic cover - out of the dark, into the spring with gantzs colourful 12 inch ep. the combination of exotic instruments, deep off-beat rumblings and rider shafique vocals, deliver an almost hypnotik journey through gantzs mind.
deep medis 1st album of 2014 comes at you courtesy of amos & truenoys, a/t/o/s. their project a taste of struggle has so far included a debut single with killer remix from 2013 heavy hitters skream & commodo, a noisy streamed video and a performance at london jazz cafe (deep medi live). their productions are slowly creeping into top djs mixes and also getting regular radio play support.
his previous release was as part of the dub mechz duo so it wont come as a big surprise that he has chosen to debut his solo offering under deep medi musik. a name like a comic book character surely means a metaphysical anomaly… fitting then that k man was at one time rumoured to be made up of 85% thc 15% water, bone & flesh. superhero or super villain?
almost every sentence relating to compa has its beginning firmly routed in age. while he may seem new to your ears in comparison to the regular pillars of bass, this 2 track ep is steeped in tradition but still coming of new age. with a bi-weekly show on sub fm, alternate mondays as well as ever increasing dj bookings, compas medi debut at the end of 2013 will be anything but a full stop for him.
swindle has had an incredible year, touring as the pianist in the mala in cuba show and also releasing an critically acclaimed album *long live the jazz* (available on all formats via deep medi musik). with swindles live show going from strength to strength there is no easing up, so its fitting to finish the year with a cut from his album *running cold*, featuring terri walker ... hear legend roni size contribute a killer remix!
an artist with minimal online presence and who keeps himself to himself, commodo is one of an increasingly rare few who make waves through the strength of their music alone. he builds bass-focussed beats with soul and substance that never perpetuate a formula, distancing himself from contemporaries with ingenious sampling and sound design influenced by his long-time affinity with the vibrancy of hiphop.
the 13-track album—which features a handful of vocal tunes, including a contribution from terri walker—is said to be a typically genre-busting affair, with the south london dj/producer reportedly taking influence from the likes of george clinton, parliament/funkadelic, and roy ayers, as well as using more expected grime and dubstep sounds.
introducing the dub mechz (ormally the dub mechanics), a south london based duo who dj & produce dub, dubstep and various other genres of electronic music. they have been producing for about 7 years and are signed to dubstep label deep medi musik and have played various dj gigs across europe. they have had numerous appearances in the dubstep scene such as dubstep allstars vol7, featuring 2 of their tracks, guest appearances at rinse.fm, dmz, subdub and deep medi xmas parties. with various tracks played on kiss, sub fm other internet radio stations with support from coki, mala, dj chef, compa, joe nice, n-type, commodo, von d and many more.
a/t/o/s, pronounced “a taste of struggle” is the project of amos & truenoys. introduced by a mutual friend, a/t/o/s started creating music together and their first invention “a taste of struggle” has been quickly snapped up by dub pioneer mala, signing them to his label deep medi. impressive remixes by skream and commodo and an early spin of their debut by bbc 6 music’s mary anne hobb’s hands a/t/o/s an almost perfect platform for success in 2013. a/t/o/s have also produced a stand out video for “a taste of struggle , created by simon mannaerts, featuring an unnerving yet beautiful animation, in turn keeping up the curious enigma the duo has already crafted.
for all of you that remember, kromestar was the first ever artist to release on deep medi with his game changing >kalawanji<. after a five year hiatus from the label kromestar returns with help from anti social crew member jay 5ive.
following on closely on from his much talked about commodo ep released earlier in the year, commodo is back with his 3rd release for deep medi. after the well received ep, commodo has found himself busy on the dj circuit playing busier and more varied shows allowing him to showcase his sound to a bigger audience, from the sell out deep medi party in denver for sub:missions 6th birthday to istanbul and beyond.with every release we see commodo develop and evolve his sound. this single is no different, buckwild kicks off immediately with its densely layered percussion, off-beat drums and twisted flow, add to that commodo’s dark funk, warped rhythms and low end bass weight, giving us a unique slice of dubstep for the mind, chest and feet. axis on the flip is a more straight up, heads down 140 jam but not this dull, washed out dungeon sound you hear, commodo adds his idiosyncratic swagger and slick grooves to give this one that raw cutting edge.
this is v.i.v.e.ks 2nd release of 2012 and the follow up to soundman/diablo also on medi. 2012 has been a great year for vivek, it has seen him start his new club night system alongside mala and friends which is powered by viveks very own soundsystem, three years in the making and for those that have been to the dance, they can testify to the weight! >out of reach< is a classic vivek production and pure soundsystem music already putting viveks system to the test, powerful lurching half-step groove, unforgiving bass with a truly dark industrial tension. >kismet (destiny)< leans heavily towards viveks eastern influence with its pray like chanting, shuffling tabla percussion and evocative effects.
deep medi are very happy to announce the signing of a new member to the family. swindle has been cutting his teeth on various labels such as planet mu and butterz fusing his unique style of grime, funky & dubstep, he has had some recent underground success with >ignition< feat. footsie and nadia suliman on his own label swindle productions. swindle came to the attention of the medi camp by fellow anti social member silkie. silkie & swindle have been working closely in the studio recently, which inspired the recent collaboration on butterz and earlier this year a mix they worked on for mixmag. swindles >do the jazz< ep unites swindles love of the funk with his twisted rave sensibility and innovative production skills that make people unable not to shake a leg in the dance. >do the jazz< has been getting support and radio play from the likes of mistajam, annie mac & toddla t, due to its pure energy!
deep medi are very happy to introduce to you the dub mechanics. the dub mechanics are a south london based dj and production team, producing dubstep with a heavy influence on dub. >the clash< and >highest strain< illustrate both sides of the dub mechanics productions skills. >the clash< featured on malas xlr8r mix last year and has been a regular in his sets amongst a select others for some time, pure fire! on the flip >highest strain< show the dub mechanics in their more meditative, subtle, melodic and highly infectious mood with their dub roots shinning through.
we are very happy to announce a new signing to the deep medi camp dark tantrums. there is very little known about dark tantrums apart from a brief appearance alongside kromestar on their track trianglez. the name came too most peoples attention through malas much talked about 2011 xlr8r mix where he dropped >unborn< which features on this very releas
pressed on 180 gram 3 x 12” vinyl with full length cd packed within a full colour gatefold sleeve. new epoch is by far and away goth-trads most complete piece of work to date, showcasing what he is has learnt in his years of producing, touring, playing live and remixing. the album features eleven superbly and delicately crafted tracks. from the opener man in the maze full of beautifully dark, emotional strings and pulsating, mesmerizing groove to the intense synthesizer stabs and pure dance-floor mayhem of the mirage – one of the strongest tracks that has been firing in heavy rotations from mala and kode9 – to the title track new epoch which defines a producer digging through different styles, experiences and cultures to find himself now one of the most unique artists within the scene and beyond.
>you have to be hungry as a musician. you have to experiment, you have to develop, you have to move forward, but you have to be hungry. that is how it is supposed to be. i won’t say that i havent been successful but i will say that i want to be better than this.< - goth-trad to big up magazine, 2008.
and better he has become. new epoch, goth-trads debut album for the deep medi musik imprint due out in february 2012, is the result of over a decade of pushing forward from the man kode9 calls >a one-man army mutating the uk hardcore continuum in japan.< this acts as the first single taken from the forthcoming album featuring the tracks >airbreaker< and >cosmos<.
although some of skreams recent productions are finding their way onto daytime radio he has always been an ambassador of hard experimental underground uk dance music and this is exactly what he has delivered for deep medi. gritty & phatty drummer are his second release for malas label and showcase skreams unquestionable production talent and ear for some of the coldest, stripped back skeletal rhythms around, both tracks are packed with enough dread and sub-weight to give you nightmares, strictly soundsystem music…
deep medi are proud to present new signing to their roster, commodo. 21 year old commodo based between sheffield & leeds has been producing since 2005 honing his skills with early grime & hip hop instrumentals. he has been turning heads over recent months with a slew of 140bpm productions that have been finding there way in to various djs sets and gaining huge respect and continuous plays from scene forerunners such as mala, distance & youngsta to name a few. mala has been spinning uprising and saracen on dubplate for over a year and distance has recently featured commodos >surveillance< on his dubstep allstars vol. 08 mix. heavily influenced by the likes of mf doom, dillinja, dj premier and of course dmz, we strongly recommend you keep an ear out for more music from this up and coming new talent.

clouds are a finnish electronic music production team that consists of tommi liikka and samuli tanner. tommi is a helsinki native and samuli comes from a small village deep in rural finland. the pair met through mutual friends in 1999, and ever since planned on producing music together, hindered by both working on various projects and shows of their own. the plan was finally realised after a string of coincidences and happy accidents led them to sharing a house in the northern suburbs of helsinki. this is the 3rd release from clouds on deep medi musik, the follow up to >protecting hands pt 1&2<.
limited edition screen printed sleeve. malas deep medi musik label are readying the launch of a new single by (at this point in time) unknown artist(s)(?) old apparatus. nothing is known about this production outfit right now but the medi camp has unleashed a taster mix onto their website which should shed a little more light as to who is behind the music and the rather surreal imagery.
rob ellis, aka pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential dubstep labels tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scenes biggest acts such as joker, 2562, cyrus, digital mystikz, skream, jack sparrow and of course pinch. pinch is also founder of subloaded, bristols finest bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th birthday. this is pinchs first release on malas deep medi imprint and we feel its his best work to date, we are sure you will agree. >swish< has been played relentlessly by mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as skream, loefah, youngsta and v.i.v.e.k. >swish< is classic pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music.>tunnel home< on the flip sees pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. this still has the pinch trademark darkness and efxs but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early photek output.
v.i.v.e.k.s long awaited second ep and 4th release on malas deep medi imprint comes in the form of the >eyes down ep<. the ep starts off where >pulse< finished with the powerful >big bang<, another club favourite and sound system tune full of pulsating sub weight, cold snares and a uneasy sense of dread. >spread love< lightens the mood and sees v.i.v.e.k channel his production talents into a laid back, dreamy, engaging groove, perfect for summer. >sirens< swiftly moves in and heads straight for the jugular upping the tempo steppers style! with its pulsating b-line, subtle percussion and mesmerizing dubbed out horns, this one keeps you locked. v.i.v.e.k keeps the title track till last with the highly magnetic and haunting >eyes down>. eyes down has a real cinematic feel and real tension about it that wouldnt feel out of place in a hollywood blockbuster. dark, moody, sparse and as expected serious bass weight! people have to feel it!
the latest release on malas deep medi imprint is a four track double pack vinyl. it comes on the back of his first medi release last year >kulture< b/w >meditation rock< and countless dubplates that you will no doubt have heard if you have checked the anti social entertainment on rinse fm. fusing digidub, sound system deep bass, rolling percussion, a hint of berlin techno it all adds up to those medi style vibes, eyes down, blissed out, heavy weight music.
v.i.v.e.k drops his first single since his much talked about double pack ‘feel it’ was released on deep medi in october 2010. ‘pulse’ opens with v.i.v.e.k’s unmistakable dark, resounding, industrial production with layers of subbed out techno touches and efx. ‘roots’ however on the flip lurches and twists over a deep cinematic melody, v.i.v.e.k on meditation vibes.

will be back in stock on friday (21.05.2010)... calibre flexes his dubstep muscles, here making his second outing on mala?s deep medi imprint - the first was a subtle rolling garage-like affair that had all the hallmarks of calibre?s drum & bass sound as well as deep medi?s deepness. the highlight here has to be >tenopause<, where calibres knack for subtle rolling percussive bliss is in full effect. the hi-hats draw you in with their fluid forward motion and when they play off the kicks and that addictive bass line pulses with hypnotic energy before flailing off into open space like its ricocheted off a passing space cruiser, you are deep into eyes down zoned out, head nod, arm shake territory. >discreet dub< is a more spaced out affair, slowing things down to a half step and upping the atmosphere as the bass seduces you into a state of bliss as it shifts amongst the eerie middle eastern melodies. words: james balf http://sonicrouter.blogspot.com

sickness from goth trad on malas label, with perhaps his best twelve to date. dark path on the a is an exercise in dub technology, thick slabs of bass overlaid with eastern melodies and mad fx. percussion and snares are treated with heavy delays, pinging around like auditory hallucinations, building a framework upon which to hang the wistful chords and gentle flute topline. the flip is just as involving, stabbing wind samples and off kilter hats readying you for sub undulations, runnin beats and mental bendy midrange noises.
deep medi musik are proud to present the debut album from one of dubsteps most exciting artists: silkie. hailing from west london, city limits volume one is glorious explosion of physical energy and concentrated emotion.
