* the production duo behind the rave-new world sounds of turbo mitzi and big slug (feat. riko dan) have been busy in the studio recently and return to form with 2 killer cuts designed to shock out the dancefloor. * ’control’ picks up the tempo from the duos previous cuts, rolling at 140 beats per minute, in it’s apocalyptic form. powerful pads create the tension before sub-heavy kicks and cybernetic snares come pounding and chopping in, building up the mood before a radioactively charged reese-bassline emerges, rising to the surface, unleashing its terror. this is a stone-cold banger. * strobe light’ returns to the more familiar 128bpm tempo that the pair have previously worked with. taking a quite unique approach, ‘strobe light’ builds evermore, moving into the light, layering percussion up as an intoxicating drone of swirling strings swells and swells - entrancing and empowering in equal measures. this is a highly versatile dj tool that also makes for an engrossing listen from start to finish. refined dancefloor ear candy. dj support: mary ann-hobbs. modeselector, daniel avery.

label boss pinch joins forces with fellow darkside-soldier mumdance to produce tectonics first outing in 2014. the result of this collaboration is two solid 128bpm sound system crushing rhythms that occupy a unique world of their own. dark, heavy, energising and totally original sounds.

last year, adrian sherwood, artist, producer and founder of the legendary dub label on-u sound, and pinch, one of the freshest faces in dubstep and the man behind hits like qawwali, joined forces to reconstruct pieces of survival & resistance, sherwoods first album in 6 years. pinchs contribution to the recovery time ep proved so successful that it has now led to the pair cementing an equal partnership - a brand new project that brings two seminal producers operating within different orbits of the bass and dub scene together. the first fruits of this studio collaboration can be heard on the killer on-u sound vs. tectonic 12 inch, which pairs up bring me weed with the weed psychosis mix - a vital melding of their two styles and an intriguing preview of more to come. after a stunning debut show at sonar tokyo, sherwood & pinch appear at sonar barcelona 14 june, dour 20 july and neopop 10 august.

shoulda rolla is the product of an almighty collaboration between tectonic head honcho pinch and rinse fms very own tribal roller, roska. returning to the studio together as a follow up session to 2010s paranormal activity (as featured on tec048) the pair have come up with something that sounds both familiar and fresh in equal measures - revitalising many ghosts of grime and dubstep past with brain bending atmospherics, precision drum programming and a full enaging tribal momentum. flip then for the deadly asbestos which continues in the vibe of roskas recent tectonic output, blurry, spearhead & 480 bc. taking on his 140bpm stance, roska flips the dubstep / half-step script on its head - instead opting for rapid, meticulous drum programming and charging pace. packed with enough sub bass weight to shake a sound system to pieces and a demented mid range sound that emulates a enraged robotic elephant, asbestos is one for the deeper heads who like to move their feet.

two collaborations between two highly respected producers. photeks >closer< marked the 50th release on pinchs tectonic last year, and some time in the studio together has produced these standout tracks. acid reign first appeared in january on pinchs fabriclive mix compilation, his dubplate version described by fact mag as >a slow-burning half-stepper with a twisted acid melody fighting for air in an oil spill, as claustrophobic as you like, basically<. m25fm appears on photeks instalment to the highly respected dj kicks compilation series, its another acid-tinged track, taking us into much deeper territory.

the two dubstep pioneers at the top of their game. the deadly concision, the rhythmic punch and dramatic timing, the spry, side-to-side detailing of a cavernous stage, the crisp-biscuit vocal sampling and middle eastern percussion — together, their sound signatures are not so much totalled as squared. truly an album, the music is multi-levelled — dark as anything at times, but engrossingly varied and emotionally shaded, always on the move.

rob ellis, aka pinch is the owner of one of the original and highly influential dubstep labels tectonic who have signed, developed and released music from some of the scenes biggest acts such as joker, 2562, cyrus, digital mystikz, skream, jack sparrow and of course pinch. pinch is also founder of subloaded, bristols finest bass rave, who has recently celebrated their 6th birthday. this is pinchs first release on malas deep medi imprint and we feel its his best work to date, we are sure you will agree. >swish< has been played relentlessly by mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as skream, loefah, youngsta and v.i.v.e.k. >swish< is classic pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music.>tunnel home< on the flip sees pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. this still has the pinch trademark darkness and efxs but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early photek output.

with only one collaboration (alongside fellow dmz stalwart sgt pokes under the name asbo, also for tectonic) seeing light of day in the last three and a half years, it really has been a long time since dubstep pioneer and producer extraordinaire loefah ventured out on wax. responsible for originating the half-step beat in dubstep that came to dominate so much of the scene - with groundbreaking early titles such as horror show , system and ruffige - loefah s beats always had huge impact on the dancefloor as well as in the studios of other beat-makers, caught by the power of his sound. more recently he s become predominately focused on his genre challenging dj sets as well as running his hugely successful swamp 81 imprint, so this rare studio excursion with tectonic label boss pinch is a treat for all to behold. broken starts with a single delaying hat splash as swirling white noise rises from beneath with gale force strength. this relatively gentle moment is soon disturbed by the menacing sound of a tearing bass hit - a twisted sound layered in weighted sub power. tense pads with distorted edges add to the build before everything pulls out to silence allowing a perfectly timed drop. in comes the full weight of bass as a pounding 808-style rhythm drops - complete with head cracking snares and swung hats - as the main bass sound punches through, broken embarks on a master class in minimal effectiveness. an unmissable collaborative effort between two studio heavyweights, and just how dubstep is meant to sound. flip for an equally exciting joint effort from pinch and rising uk funky and rinse fm star roska. nominated by dj mag for the prized title of producer of the year in 2010, roska is known more for his 130bpm funky productions but this collaboration takes the tempo up to to 140bpm for an exercise in rhythmical maximality - a frantic but rolling conga workout session. meticulous drum programing is layered with dark reverbed sonics, spooky pads and a gut wrenching sub bass line guaranteed to cause stomach upset on the right systems. paranormal activity will summon the ancient spirits so be careful where you drop it. all told, this plate is an essential purchase for true fans of the original dubstep vibe.

the fruits of a techy stepping collaboration between tectonic don pinch and young belarussian producer pawel ambiont, making his debut here, provide both sides of this welcome one away special plate. originating at and shortly after a meeting in st petersburg, you could be forgiven for thinking that pinch has added cultural attache to his already considerable cv. >jelly bean< is a lustrous, luscious affair - heavily weighted low end offset with crystalline rave ready top end ambience. >poison/remedy< is built for dancehall detonation, a half-knotted-stepping intro builds with tension, as more propulsive stepping textures lunge through to fire up any soundsystem, big!

for serious music fans, sxsw in austin is close to heaven on earth. non-stop music of all sorts, plenty of beer & bbq, and for those of us in colder climates, a chance to enjoy some mild weather before spring is fully underway. this year, as a part of our celebration of 27 years of !k7 well be kicking the festivities off with dj sets from two of the recent stars of dj-kicks, photek & apparat.the party will be free and wont require a badge, so come one come all. in addition to the headliners, we also have a several special guests lined up, including artists who appear on photeks mix. were looking forward to starting the week of music off on the right foot with all our friends, and hope to see you there!
