Downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from Tropic of Cancer. Two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of Angelo Badalamenti in >Twin Peaks< mode, or maybe Reservoir Dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. Processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. As Badalamenti himself said of his own work, >My (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. I think of it as tragically beautiful. That is how I would describe what I love best: tragically beautiful.< Seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...
