walter merlin jones is a perfectionist. a presence in the house scene since the late 80s, the dj and producer has, over the years, created thousands of undoubtedly wonderful, but unfinished, songs – a staggering collection of musical bits that have fallen victim to his tendency to be his own worst critic. yet, that same perfectionism has yielded some of the most engaging dance music of the last decade, however scant – songs that are aural proof of his preference for quality over quantity. joness first dfa release, 2009s >ill keep on loving you/living without your love<, confirmed his commitment to this idea with subtle grace and slow, seductive rhythms. now, with graceful exit – which pairs joness talents with singer ellipsis, boston producer chas bronz and saxophonist jesse allen — the new orleans-raised artist continues to showcase his discerning ear, proffering music with a modern, evolved take on discos very best virtues.
its now hard to imagine a summer that wont be sound tracked by hot natureds sleazy intergalactic funk and distinct bassline brilliance so its lucky the boys are back with forward motion – their first release for own imprint hot creations and dancefloor gold in the purest sense. disco delinquent ali love provides lead vocals
berghain resident, klockworks label boss and ostgut ton artist, ben klock leads the way, having remixed the track for his own sets, now rejected bring it to you. backing ben is another techno favourite of the rejected camp, dvs1.
the 5th release of goodvibe records sees hugo merging forces with gambo, a dj/producer from turin, a living legend of the citys underground scene. three tracks made of deep beats and dark disco atmosphere and a digital bonus remix from audiojack, the stunning duo of 20:20 vision family, an absolute amazing floor filler. from the desolate plains of mars and the frozen moons of the outer solar system, from the milky way to the ends of the universe, you will hear of wonders often hard to describe and sometimes even harder to fathom. a cosmic keyhole which it is easy to go through but really difficult to return.
tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.
danish duo laid back made a most surprising comeback to the clubs in 2010 with >cocaine cool<. not that they had ever been really forgotten: their electro pop classic >white horse< remained a sure shot in clubs for the thirty years after its release 30 years back and a constant inspiration to boatload of diverse artists from techno to hip-hop. >cocaine cool< was recorded at the same session but the ironic vocals ridiculing label executives blowing up their frail ego with the chemical substance were deemed to risquee at that time, so the recording collected dust in some box until last year. bostons >soul clap< another duo hailed as one of the hotest things in clubland known for their eclectic funk-rooted taste. they opt for a cool sparser arrangement leaving out the “white horse -like chords. a loose, dry electro funk beat, hpynotic one-note synth, few dub effects and additional vocoder vocals do the trick bravorously. besides an instrumental version theres also a harder jacking dub take sounding like early chicago house edits. and while the boys are add it they also re-edited another huge one from laid back: >baker man< that managed the unlikely balancing act of not only hitting it bigtime in the charts but also in the emerging balearic scene. this 12 inch is cool in every which way!
the first immerse release of 2011 sees the label taking on a fresh approach while retaining the same atmospherics that have made it an essential fixture in the bristol music canon. outboxx are made up of jacob martin and matt lambert, and their sound is rooted in groovy, analogue house music. with an emphasis on jamming, theres a loose, live feel to these tracks that has an instant appeal but drags you deeper with each listen. >kate libby< kicks off on a swung beat and warm pads, before dropping down to p-funk bass and sparse synth flourishes. >berties groove< places jazzy rhodes playing at the front of the mix with a classic drum machine workout ticking away in the background. this is soulful, authentic house music with not a clinical midi pattern in earshot. despite coming from a different angle, the outboxx tracks slip neatly into the immerse legacy thus far, pointing the way for a year filled with more of the spacious, haunting club music the label has become renowned for.
bullion announces his new single >magic was ruler<, for vinyl only release on 25th may 2011, featuring 3 full length version of track from his non-lp >you drive me to plastic< and one exclusive new composition. the title track is a sample-based tapestry, rich in jangly guitar chops and pert horns, it dances along with the merriment of a tropical beguine. >magic was ruler< is a crate-diggers journey to encompass all manner of musical styles from krautrock, leftfield disco, all the way through to afro inspired 70s electronics, and continuing on from 2009s >young heartache ep< (one handed records). the searching, syncopated track >you drive me to plastic< has all the dynamic of the non-lp with which it shares its name and new track >good news on her< has the pulsating verve of shep pettibone-era ny house, whilst packing bullions signature hip hop punch. >too right< completes the set, supported by benji b and gilles peterson in the uk.
single sided pressing with etching on the flip.
big with stephan bodzin, hernan cattaneo, gregor tresher, dubfire, monika kruse, mihalis safras, butch, paco osuna, hermanez, gel abril, joris voorn. the labels first three releases have already featured such names as martinez, piemont, daniel dreier and d.diggler, backed by mixes and original productions from some jetts very own team of artists. todays release comes from the label head himself, fred siera who turns in two original cuts, bell x1 and yeager. bell x1 is a deep, driving number. moody and atmospheric with an extra long break it touches on in-flight safety details and even a touch of nancy sinatra. seriously. on the remix and fresh from the success of his tiny little widgets album is martin eyerer. staying true to the original, martin ups the ante by adding more drive and muscle. on the flip the original of yeager is another driving number. deep and percussive with a gorgeous jazzy piano break, it receives a rework from jett001 artist daniel dreier. the watergate resident injects a healthy dose of groove and ups the percussion. added strings, vocal samples as well as a splash of woodwind take the original on a new trip
i just woke and its pretty cold outside. i havent opened the window yet, but i somehow know it and im listening to these six tracks again and try to make an approximation of why and how i have done this ep. they are pretty different from each other but tell the same story or at least are part of the same one as a matter of fact. maybe they were done as an excuse for my overdue album which is scheduled again for this year or maybe just because i was going through some odd times and needed to immerse myself in doing something. in this case music. more the latter i guess. ok so, the opening track is in a way the end of an era and the last one the opening of a fresher one. and the rest fills in the gaps in between those two moments i guess. i hate conceptual things anyways. i never know or want to know why i do certain things. concepts define something before it already begins its existence and trying to explain why is pretty useless. so here it is. the recording of a certain period of time in my tiny existence. with collaborations with jaw (dop), my brother atilla, who is also responsible for the artwork, and jonny cruz. by the time its out itll be a distant memory for me but hope it lasts a bit longer for anyone that listens to it
soweso 009 bring us one of rumanians upcoming house-masters negru. after his amazing contribution to the soweso various artists ep last year its time for him to do his own release. on the a-side >break into the record store< is a typical negru hip hop infused house track that will surely make things bump in the night. on remix duties is pacha resident tuccillo that has brought us some of the best house tracks of last year on the isgud label. on the b-side negru teams up with his buddy boola for a jazzy house groover that begs for spring to start. welcome to the family negru! enjoy it and play it loud.
its been 2 years since benny rodrigues last release on be as one and since then, the young dutch producer has pushed forward his career, both in the studio and in the dj booth. having remixed people like josh wink, dj pierre, justice, spirit catcher to name just some and released on ovum, poker flat, figure, klockworks, with a busy dj schedule in clubs as berghain or rex, at his young age benny is clearly a well respected artist. benny rodrigues interpretation of acid house takes the form of i like acid, and surely it sounds classic! acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch to rock the floors in 2011. choice hypnotic appeal will not get unnoticed on the floor, once again a track that finds its strenght in the basic structure of its arrangement, effective drums patterns with a freakish top line that carry the track into peak time. steve rachmad remixes as sterac are always a treat, and here the techno legend doesnt fail to impress once again with his take on bennys i like acid. snares, hi-hats, rides and bass, all arranged to build up to a melodic and emotional breakthru, dancefloor bliss for the detroit techno heads. to close this amazing package, germanys own mike dehnert brings his trademark sound to be as one in the form of his remix of i like acid. a tune that finds its perfect habitat in dark, smokey and sweaty rooms with massive sound systems.
time 2 express is on a roll! sqeezing out harsh yet hypnotic techno of the highest order. the 4th instalment in the 61 center returning series is an all belgo-italian affair. as on vol. 3 the a side is taken up by peter van hoesen and donato dozzy. with >dock< they present a dense, psychedelic track: bubbling percussion works its way through swirls of oscillating soundscapes. >dock< envelops the listener in a thick, gentle blanket, slowly increasing the pressure as the track unfolds over 9 minutes. on the b-side stroboscopic artefacts main brain lucy reports for remix duty. >defense against the self> was originally released on peter van hoesens >entropic city< album. lucy provides the track with a solid dose of steroids, injecting cavernous kicks and bleeps. his version widens the impact of the original, while adding his very own personal take on techno. viva italia...
and we continue the album package with the second part of his debut album called >durch und durch<! he has already made his name in the music biz with his releases on afulab like bango banger, bam bam bam, abfahrt ep and numerous others, but always delivers his most advanced and progressive productions on his motherlabel afulab.
the first 12 inch contains four tracks in his unique peak-time style, dancefloor fillers for sure, that has found its way into the cases of many big and diverse names like richie hawtin, 2000 and one, butch, stephan bodzin, mihalis safras (felix is one of the hottest producers!), also. this is his first long player that will be released as three coloured 12 inches and the third will include the cover to fit the three maxis and the album cd with extra tracks ! this package will surely be a nice collectors item and a classic in the everlasting felix bernhardt series.
die 18 stücke auf the only she chapter sind weitaus mehr zeitgenössische kompositionen als beats & loops-tracks. sie beginnen wie der titel auch alle mit the only... und featuren insgesamt 7 sängerinnen, darunter zola jesus, shara worden (my brightest diamond), niki randa (school of seven bells, flying lotus), sowie die bezaubernde, jüngst verstorbene trish keenan (broadcast). obwohl das album konzeptionell strukturiert ist, wurde der musikalische wandteppich eher unorthodox gewoben - ein effekt, der durch die unterschiedlichen herangehensweisen der sängerinnen noch verstärkt wird. mit the only she chapters gelingt es herren, eigene klischees und bisher erlerntes zu überspringen und seine horizonte und Ästhetik zu erweitern.
alex kork, founder of 9volt presents 4 great minimal-techno tracks on plattenbau-music. alex also released on relax. he did his first steps producing electronic music already in his youth. experiments with self-made oscillators, noise generators, synthesizers and sequencers he was always in searching for new sounds. as techno found the way in his hometown in the early 90s he was flashed by the new sound. as hydro he played on a lot of events and also he organised own parties. since founding the cannibal cooking club together with error in 1999 they play as liveact in the clubs. the own label for their crazy and unique sound was born in 2003. his label 9volt-musik was founded in 2006. focussed on the sound he likes, its a platform for his own productions and friends.
appears on carl craigs planet e, cadenza, kindisch, buzzin fly and crosstown rebels, glimpse is a true innovator who is able to explore and master various genres in his own inimitable style. backed up by a deeper vocal treatment from shinedoe!
al kent was once described as scotlands walter gibbons, and on >fantasy< he pays tribute to his hero with an alternative take on a track walter made his own. with beautiful rhodes piano, sweet strings and heavenly jazz guitar, file under >lush<. flip over for some disco madness… >check out the sounds of nyc< may once have been a loft classic, but in this incarnation may have proved too much for that particular musical journey. tough as old boots. wrapping up we have >gimme some loving< – built around a cool piano hook and an instantly recognisable voice and featuring some proper hands in the air string sections. million dollar disco is loved by dimitri from paris, pat les stache, solid state, cosmic boogie, greg wilson, peter adarkwah, the dead rose music company, horse meat disco, nik weston, chris harris and many many more..
SUNRISE SUNSET EP (DEEP SPACE ORCHESTRA / HUNEE RMXS)
12 Inch 19.04.11
the first release on use of weapons saw heavy support from djs across the board - jocks such as jimpster, the revenge, the unabombers, bill brewster, tornado wallace and more all gave their support to the inaugural release.
following on from deep space orchestras >trust skynet< ep, cottam heads up use of weapons 002 with a killer track already turning the heads of those that know. needing no introduction after a series of sellout releases on his own self-titled label, the mysterious lancastrian brings strings, acid and a building drum track to a release that is sure to widen eyes on the dancefloor and beyond.
the three tracks for this release go through a wide range of our sound. >cyclone< by samuel dan and feygin is a throwback to the way dirtybird records sounded back in 2006, raw and fun with big drums. but >cyclone< sounds amazing compared to the sound quality of some of those old records we all love, a definite update to the old db vibe. b-jus >babbel net< is his follow-up appearance to last years bomb track >my sneakers< that all of us played 1000 times. this is more in the smooth 808 style of dirtybird while still giving you some punch and melody. this record works really well for me and this groove crossover into a house set no problem. last but not least is maelstroms >you play<. this is a real monster, not so much for the house heads but instead for those of you who like to cross genres and explore the bass regions during your sets. definitely not your friendly deep house record this one is a real db banger in the tradition of big dirty bass we love here in san francisco.
horse meat disco member luke howard debuts the miss cheesecake nom de plume for a shiny vinyl release on the venerable london institution otherwise known as faze action records. electronic bass and piano action abounds on >get off the floor< which features some delightfully lo-fi robotic vocals and a relentlessly driving groove, while >you must create<, which features lukes own vocals, is dripping in neon-tinged 80s dancefloor sweat. sharing the flipside is a typically lush proto house remix of >you must create< from label chiefs faze action which really could be the theme tune to a 1983 moustache-riddled cop action flick set in san francisco, alongside an instrumental version of the original cut<
and the story goes like this: skipson (also known as knarf skipson in the past) was recording the >ks editspot pt.1<, which is based on samples from a rob mello track. as skipson is a nice fella, he sent the final version to rob. and as rob is a nice fella too, he liked it, sent one of his tracks back and this project was born. thats the easy way of sample clearing! this 10inch is about house music, as simple as that! groovy beats and fat basslines, rough and ready. limited to 500 copies - enjoy!
to celebrate the 100th single release and 15 successful years in the biz, sasses moodmusic brings you the first single from the forthcoming martin dawson album >sunday smoking<. having just started releasing under his own name in 2010, >sunday smoking< is the release that develops the growing relationship between martin and moodmusic.
dials sublabel laid comes up again with a double feature for true house music lovers. catalogue number 11 features tracks by uks juergen junker and our wellknown buddy lowtec. after playing together at the legendary sud electronic/ uzuri parties in london efdemin, lawrence and carsten jost fell deeply in love with with juergen junkers amazing dj & live sets and his wonderful productions. his own label neurythmics was like a secret treasure to be explored. followed by a lovely release on efdemins naif imprint he now enteres the laid zone with two deeply rooted house pieces. lowtec has always been a main influence of the dial/laid family and after his huge underground hit of last years workshop ep (laid07 with kassem mosse) he presents a dirty rhodes stomper to hit the house floors again. freaky alert!
kicking off 2011 with a killer e.p. is our favourite artist art bleek featuring a number of remixes from the new art supplies album released on loungin this month plus some fresh cuts exclusive to this release. starting the e.p. is a floor filling remix of clap your hands by our own trevor loveys. the original has been out for a few months in the blogosphere and has been picking up some heavy props. next up is hold it (a little longer) where art shows off his true talent of the master of the musical groove with a rolling bass and a choppup vocal lick to keep the party rocking. flip over to side b and you would be excused if you thought someone had swapped the record out for a disco classic. with vox by noelle scaggs and a harmony that nile rodgers would be proud of arthur creates a boogie classic that is very much flavour of the moment. following on is an exclusive remix of the hunt dance featuring the unmistakable voice of ursula rucker. the original on art supplies has had such amazing reactions that we all thought it would be hard to better it, but again arthur has done it delivering a groover for the heads. finally is right on featuring l.as finest charlie sputnik. art delivers a more techy grove to this classic which is a sound he is becoming more recognised for which contrasts so will with charlies trademark smooth vocals.
this is a huge release sampling a the doors classic coming from the erfurtbased cosmopolar crew. rounded up with hot remixes from beatamines (trapez, my best friend, damm records) and fabian reichelt (upon you, freude am tanzen) who is debuting with his first own production after the successfull vocal collaborations with marek hemmann.
seven 7inches in seven months - hamburg s pingipung label surprises fans and music lovers with a vinyl series called summer of seven. from april to october 2011 one single each month will bring on the longest summer hamburg has ever seen. featuring fresh, unreleased, single-quality tracks by the pingipung artists springintgut, peter presto, hey, aj holmes, goto80, iso68, and james dina4. the artwork comes from c.i.alex (golden pudel club hamburg). each release is strictly limited to 200 copies! two straight bouncers from andi otto aka springintgut open the series. after touring through india last winter, he brought home some antique vinyl records with south indian string music. these have been micro-sampled for the tracks, overdubbed with his own cello playing and a drum machine. two odes to the animals in bangalore, the eagles above, and the dogs underneath.
barn 003 is a split single featuring two tracks ? one a cut-up disco monster by our good friend from gothenburg, andreas jonsson (or acid andy as his mother calls him) ? the other a psycho killa trancehall jam from sweet old boman himself. both tracks have been tried, tested, rinsed out and wheeled up by us barnhus boys for a few good months now ? feel free to give them a chance at your own local discothèque this weekend!
the unstoppable fachwerk techno train continues... on the a-side sascha delivers a proper berlin machine-technoo track, undercooled, intense, heavy... the way it should be! on the b-side a surprisingly relaxed techno excursion with dubby hints of detroit techno. makes us remember the sun is actually shining outside all the dark techno basements we spend half our youth in. strong release!
veteran hocalist marvin belton (rotating assembly) follows up his recent ferrispark release >love will find a way< with the debut of his production company. featuring r&b & house versions of >image fades away< + 2 more.
after the emotive release of rick howard, its time for hhyr to step it up a notch again with fellow chicagoian ricardo miranda, who already gave us >black acid< last year and also was featured on rick wilhites >vibes< compilation. <br (/>>floorwax< urges us to do the damn thing, assuming that he leaves us no choice but to slam dance to this hypnotic acid work out, which reminds us slighly of earlier dj funk material. >redline< further explores the boundaries of acid house originale. it starts out with just drums and a pulsating acid line, but halfway through a utopian string line eases in and shows us the way to the promised land. keep your heads up and dance to the music.
classic chicago house!
after a few years releasing singles under different monikers, brooklyn producer lou teti launches his own label, tigers on a leash, with the debut >get away< as a certain way to kick things off right. the original is an almost hypnotic electro-builder with an 80s touch, yet with a sound thats still firmly planted in 2011. even though tetis vocals are used more like another instrument than as a center piece, sneaking in and out against the guitars and synths, it s still the kind of memorable vocal line that you will find ringing in your head as you wake up. drop out orchestras club cut is a just that, a cut to get any club moving. in true doo style, they take a great original and create something special, but completely different. jkrivs deep&disco mix takes deep to a new low, with a breakdown thats truly epic. and finally theres mario basanovs remix. a beautiful deep house groover like only mario can supply.
humandrone from japan featured on this lemon yellow release from we play house.
marked firmly on our soundcloud page and in various publications: wph does not accept nor listen to demos. a way of working that was shattered when one day red d found a real physical demo in his postbox. from a galaxy far far away called japan came humandrone a.k.a. takaaki shibuya, with his twist on jackin chicago rhythms. a twist deeply melancholic, almost detroit like, showing us that chicago music can be both jackin’ and musical at the same time.
coefficient is an english artist with so much experience now, thanks to releases on labrynth and beyond. in this record he shows 2 original tracks and a remix of his strong friend michaelangelo. he shows his skill in creating the techno cleanly, hypnotic and with no compromise.its a journey straight on his way. you can hear a lot of the influences of detroit (see robert hood and jeff mills), but his style is certainly unique. the remix of michaelangelo completes all the release with an even more dark and hypnotic style - but mostly clean. welcome to another trip high quality signed mrec ltd!
dj support : reboot, nick curly, mathias kaden, nekes, brothers vibe, richie hawtin, tim green, franco cinelli, mihalis safras, someone else, c-rock, mirco violi, matt star, danny tenaglia, sasse, livio & roby, meat, giovanni d amico, hooved, luc ringeisen, audiojack, andre kronert, osunlade, nicolas duvoisin, franksen
after rising very quickly to the top of the pile with his own brand of no nonsense beats and bass party rockers, pimpsoul delivers a full original artist ep on the home of all things dancefloor, bombstrikes! and we think it s a scorcher.
vibrations 003 comes from asian project. aka bobby coulman from soft rocks flying solo and working with julian bendall from bah samba et al. >kadjhani express< is a mid-tempo excursion of chugging drums, dubby elements and beautiful sitar. music to get lost in! >distant love< is classic deep house done the way it should be – this cut blew our minds when we first heard it! remix duties fall to washington dcs protect-u and they take the track on an analogue headtrip from chicago to japan… unique and wonderful.
adam shelton & subb-an have single handedly made birmingham cool over the last few years with their infamous below gigs at the rainbow. >feel so real< reflects the duos work at its height. it is a classic sounding house record with familiar vocal hooks, warm chords and throbbing drums. it stands out from the crowd in much the same way fcls >lets go< did last year. is it old or is it new? old school sensibilities brought right up to date with cutting edge production skills. so it was with this thought in mind that we approached new 2020 signings fcl to remix. they have added their own vocals and developed the hook into a synth heavy workout. the pack comes complete with another track >inside my head< which features a line many will remember from nights spent at warehouse raves, one for the spotters.
after the last adventure emphasized by sven weisemann, it is mojuba veteran nick solé on release duty! after some excursions on faux pas music nick is presenting three fresh cutz and pushing the boundaries of his own sound universe of house music again. we are very proud to announce that this release is already a little teaser for the debut album of nick solé, which is supposed to be released sometime very soon … keep tuned in and enjoy!
san francisco-based producer antiserum steps up for dub police with two unique collaborations, featuring local producers ill-esha and 12th planet respectively. his music is a masterfully crafted fusion of influences that results in a sound entirely his own, balancing light against dark and colour against pure bass pressure. showcasing a deft musicality as well as an unrivalled talent for system shaking productions, antiserum is taking the scene by storm. releases on narco.hz, s.c.u.m and argon amongst others have already propelled him to the forefront of the rapidly growing american dubstep scene, with plenty more still to come. on the a side, he is joined by ill-esha on >zephyr<, a sick g-funk inflected roller. skittering hi-hats and tough drums lay the foundations on this one, with the deep, smooth bass sweeping underneath. the vibrant synths weave in and out of each other with ease, swimming around the mix and swelling expansively through the speakers. on the flip he teams up with 12th planet on the massive >purple & gold<. the g-funk influences continue to flow through this track, pinned down by a hard bassline and taut drums. the shimmering synths sliding over the top of the percussion and off into the atmosphere give the track an epic stop-in-your-tracks effect.
mojuba is very proud to present a new little daughter to the label family called mojuba underground. from now on mojuba underground will be the home for unforgettable, rare, obscure licensed tracks that left a huge impression on us during all the years at the clubs. the start is made by tyree aka tyree cooper with nothin wrong licensed from a classic dance mania 12î,,,,,, released way back in 1995. this track has the magic combination of being emotional and soulful in terms of house and straight forward funky and kicking in terms of techno. most of you will remember this track from 2010 as ben klock included it in his berghain 04 mix cd on ostgut ton!
souvenirs kid-brother, re.you - is all grown up & showing of his muscle. having previously worked with his brother phillipp with remixes under their belts for &me, turntablerockers and m.in. - now under his own guise he brings a new danceable creepiness to the label as he partners up with hometown hero, rampa of souvenir & keine music - well-rounded producer & dj extraordinaire, versed in the sways of shake - for the >our thing ep<. re.you grabs the a side on his own…with a rework of >ghost< by hamburg duo phantom/ghost - with a haunting vocal that is foggy & vague >relax…its only the ghost…< - matched with excellent guitar underpinnings, and a strong percussive sway…distant & smoky, >ghost< does the trick. the b side brings rampa & re.you together for >awareness< a deep, dark track with a chugging bassline and a heavy, syrup-soaked vocal
GOLDEN CHALK / ALWAYS COMING HOME (IDJUT BOYS / TUFF CITY KIDS RMXS)
12 Inch 08.04.11
new leng act mountaineer bring us their debut 12 inch for the label as a precursor to their album. the remix treatment here is coming from two great teams! on side-a we have the idjut boys giving us yet another genre defying direction with a sumptuously dubby take on golden chalk. this one keeps on building from a delicate strummed intro, with delayed vocals, the track slowly draws you into a deep sea of sub bass and guttural wobbles. the idjuts deft hands once again delivering a lesson in subtlety and arguably one their finest works to date. on side-b tuff city kids rework the always coming home in a wholly different way, fat 80s dub bass, hefty hand-claps and linn drum fills underpin some soaring atmospheric synth work. with the vocals dropped, this is the side for the deep-end of the club, as tcks gerd jansen well knows. a must have 12 inch!
our man francesco grant from italy returns to the mothership with four funky-as-hell tech-house tunes and sure floorfillers on his revolution ep ! he produces his own unique style of cut-ups, field recordings, sampling and packs all into nice kickin? percussions and basslines. his first two releases already made quite an impact on the scene with his still selling first great release body work and his second organic ep.
two adventurous artists in their own right, platter001 sees the first meeting of minds for appleblim and october, with two wildly different results. >ny fizzzzz< is a peak-time belter in the truest sense of the word, launching to life with a rigid 4/4 drum machine stomp. appleblims dub tendencies pepper octobers knack for the jack with spacious delays and reverbs before a muted piano hook gets filtered into the mix. melting away to let the chords shine through, the drop encapsulates the pinnacle of any late night jam, bright, bold and brassy, and irresistibly catchy. >fountains of paradise< trickles in on a bed of rippling fx, guided by haunting, melodic synth flourishes that only vintage gear can conjure up. the rhythm section ticks away faithfully as the distinctly psychedelic tones and drones shape the definitive 21st century dub track. blissful in its execution, >fountains…< will stand the test of time as a magically unique slice of delectable ambience.
