usas jon hester serves up four heady techno cuts for the second installment in rekids newly launched techno orientated series special projects. based in berlin, hesters discography may be humble but it is one of pure quality. the american techno producer has released on rodhads dystopian, appeared on a release alongside the likes of dj richard, hinode and arthur kimskii (point break) on l.a.g., and now joins the rekids special projects series featuring fbk, markus suckut and dj deep. heaving distorted kicks and echoing stabs lay the blueprint to inertia whilst intricate hats make way for metallic melodies. speeding things up, on the move is a more driving cut in comparison with its trippy atmospherics and crunchy percussion, whereas the surging short circuit demonstrates syncopated percussion and ominous synths for a rhythmic dancefloor workout. finally, neurons sees various cosmic elements ebb in and out of the mix for a mesmerising conclusion.

pavel ludin returns to poker flat wax with a gripping four-tracker showcasing his myriad of talents. born and raised in eastern siberia, pavel iudin found his way to the underground scenes of moscow and saint petersburg where he firmly established his credentials. the probe ep finds him at the height of his powers, serving up some serious burners. ‘probe 2&#8242,,,, is a throbbing, deep roller with shimmering synths and a shuffling, evolving groove - one for keeping the floor on lock whatever the situation. ‘halo’ has more classic feel to it, clearly a nod to the chicago masters of the 90s, but maintaining a tough and fresh feel that is all ludin’s own. half way though, things really open up into thick, swingy vibe via a killer bassline and snappy percussion. ‘probe 3&#8242,,,, is more acidic outing - although never resorting to the iconic 303, the track is a lysergic journey into dubbed out tech-house. closing out the ep is ‘groundlevel’ - a driving, loopy groover that uses ludin’s feel for atmosphere and tension to the max. the whole ep exudes a steely-eyed mastery of the studio and the dance floor - making pavel iudin one to watch over the next months.

year zero is a first release on post scriptums own label and in a sense it is a manifesto defining it s musical identity. no space here for a sound targeting the current techno mainstream. there is dirt, and the pinch of imperfections, very characteristic of avant-garde electronics and industrial well known for the quite nearby past. on the a side, there are compositions appearing like shutters from experiments conducted in the secret laboratory. the rhythm is giving the appropriate weight, while the rest is a musical conglomerate of sounds and synthesis building up a feeling of anxiety. a swarming energy, a modulation, an uncertainty and lurking somewhere danger are surrounding us.on the flip side are remixes constituting the lighter counterpunch. motor eurhythmics bringing to life the old good detroit techno definitely of a dance-floor character, making this material ideal for an interesting set.

when it was released in the summer of 2016, eli escobars happiness blew people away with its sophisticated house/disco hybrid sound and striking urban landscape. critics were falling over themselves to hyperbolise over elis exquisite synth stabs while the coveted double lp continues to sell through to this day. the quintessential new york dj, eli’s happiness stomped through the streets of his city, stopping off along the way at the jumping brooklyn basement clubs and dusty record shops that he frequents. some months later, developing on those themes seemed like the most natural thing to do, hands flew up across the board for remixing duties and assembling the extended classic family to contribute was an easy, nay joyful, task. happy again was born, giving the album a fresh new suit of clothes. re-works from kon, soulphiction and yam who? alongside bonus versions of tracks from the original album makes this the ultimate vinyl bumper pack
