killekill is proud to present eomac’s “spectre”, the debut album from dublin-based producer ian mcdon- nell, a rising star in the techno scene. spectre also marks the label’s first full-length album release. ian is better-known as half of the irish duo lakker and this album is certainly carved from the same cold slab of stone. his music has already gained huge support from the likes of tommy four seven, ellen allien, thom yorke and the one and only aphex twin himself. bleepy, slo-mo synth lines, dense textures, saturated bassdrums and hand-sliced vocals dunked in cavern- ous reverb – spectre is all about eomac doing what he does best, taking our concepts of club sound and contorting them into something that is truly his own. the melodies are slo-mo and lo-fi, the pads, exquisitely lush and textured. ian’s amazing sound-design (bordering on the intense in some places) and incredible attention to detail makes this an album where each listen reveals a deeper layer. spatters of noise, shards of broken beat and relentlessly pounding techno rhythms also make it a dancefloor-decimating weapon.

this record tells the story of a detroit groove from the perspective of the speaker, taking you through time from luomo s to the hardware syst3m parties, and the first leaky warehouse roof no way back where dean syst3m worked the door, with all the disrespectful nature one would naturally expect from a true detroit groove. created by two veterans of detroit grooves, bmg & derek plaslaiko, who now calls berlin home, in bmgs studio in the center of detroit. this song celebrates some of the out there characters and crazy cowboy outlaws that made this detroit scene happen on the underground level, that made such an impact that is still felt around the world today.

bulletdodges next instalment comes from us producer sean ray, delivering a single called deep 454 with 3 superb remixes from mgun, space djz & mr o and gareth whitehead. seans original track is a deep affair, heralding sparkling pads and grooving percussion. the track is cemented by a dark yet infectious piano riff and soulful bassline to make it a dancefloor classic. first up on remix duties is ur’s very own newcomer mgun. mgun has been taking the scene by storm lately with his incredible productions and his take on sean’s deep 454 is no exception. for this remix he has provided us with a detroit infused gem of a track. he has used soulful pads that eminate detroit and an upfront kick to create nothing short of a masterpiece. for the next remix we have an exciting collaboration between techno stalwarts space djz and one half of the detroit grand pubha’s mr o. their joint venture has produced a deep techno monster. it has a solid bassline and hypnotic use of the pads that shouts out 5am madness. lastly to remix deep 454 is bulletdodge’s head honcho gareth whitehead who has created a more old school stripped back deep house vibe. his tight drum programming and clever usage of the original tracks pads and piano riff rounds this perfect package off very nicely. supported so far by audio injection, colin dale, craig richards, dj deep, gary beck, paul mac, pig & dan, samuel l. session, sasha carassi, skream, slam, tom hades and vince watson plus many more!!!

over the course of four eps for numbers and creation of his own label ‘total fantasy’, deadboy has charted his own path far beyond the deep black space of mediocrity with previous records ‘if u want me’, ‘here’ & ‘blaquewerk’. on ‘return’ deadboy journeys further into uncharted territories, taking his music to the darkest recesses of disco and extraterrestrial synth-werk. the opening track ‘return’ finds the london-based producer taking cues from the likes of tangerine dream and klaus schulze with a gentle ambient opener that unwraps to reveal a beautiful and moving track. ‘des niles’ is a shimmering disco track built around an 80s boogie bassline, plus those killer deadboy vocal chop-ups that take us even deeper into the producers nighttime world. samples are worked to within an inch of their life on the floor-ready ‘yhvh’, whilst punchy bass and synth stabs take care of the rest. things then move swiftly on to ‘life code’, with the deadboy once again notching the tempo down and letting the track’s wistful oriental melodies ride out into the dark.

corbu are an electronic, indie-rock band from brooklyn, new york spearheaded by producer and multi-instrumentalist jonathan graves. corbu are jonathan, todd hoellerman (drums, keys), amanda scott (synths, percussion), julian ferraldo (guitar, keys) and brian murphy (bass, keys). named after french architect le corbusier, the band has a strong creative aesthetic. graves writes the music from visual ideas, which he translates into sound. corbu songs are often heard partially or entirely in dreams, and are influenced by films, physical spaces and a childhood love of nature and science fiction. and it works. corbus music is beautifully crafted, taking the listener on a journey from day to night, through exhilarating sunsoaked sonic landscapes to land softly on the surface of the moon. jonathan began singing and playing different instruments at age nine, and eventually fell in love with samplers and their ability to bend conventional sounds into something abstract and new.

hand stamped and numbered, strictly limited to 320 copies. osiris music uks thirty seventh release *open water versions* sees the label taking an innovative, almost open-source approach to what could be a more conventional remix project, with four artists contributing their own unique perspectives to one anonymous track. the eps opening salvo comes courtesy of killawatt, who brings a dense combination of driving force and technical intricacy whilst ipman imbues his version with urgent percussion and sense of cavernous tension. the second half of the release sees the debut of osiris music label owner simon shreeves mønic project, the pummelling, cinematic sounds of which providing apt counterpoint to the staggered, churning techno of metrists version which rounds up the ep. early support from laurent garnier, eomac, bas mooy and paul mac.

while some of you might think of planet rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it is also pushing things forward in the present time, with woo york being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprints recent catalogue. that said, 2014 starts with ukrainian duo taking over planet rhythm headquarters as the labels proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development. first out of press is the duos own ep highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. from abstract tb-303-ish structures of acid rain, through the building peaks of analogue swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to come closers uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be woo yorks strongest release to date.

rising concern dan shake has achieved what no other has in over a decade: with his debut release in the music world, he has become the very first producer without a detroit heritage or residency to land a release on moodymanns prestigious record label mahogani music. based in london, the former leeds student secured the feat in a charmingly anachronistic fashion: having just watched kenny dixon jr perform alongside the 3 chairs at dimensions festival, dan simply handed over a demo cd with a collection of unreleased tracks. moodymann was hooked almost instantantly, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of detroit strong artists. citing influence from the layered percussive rhythms of afrobeat pioneers such as tony allen and fela kuti, the soul-drenched sampling of j dilla and the kind of dark, dense grooves laid out by contemporary producers such as flying lotus and motor city drum ensemble, dans situation in winding up on a label renowned for encompassing all those traits is obviously a blessing for the young producer.

following on from killawatts bring down the walls ep at the tail end of last year osiris music continues to expand their sonic boundaries as they move in 2014, with their first release of the year coming in the form of sleepers simulation theory ep. experimenting for the very first time with fm synthesis, the ep features seven tracks of thunderous production the majority of sounds for which sleeper drew from a mere four oscillators in a bid to recalibrate his production skills. the resulting record is far more than the sum of its component parts and, save for the skulking, static soaked tension of meth, moves with relentless force and purpose throughout.the simulation theory ep sees sleeper taking his already deft grasp of both dubstep and techno production and fusing them to a body of pummelling forward momentum perfectly suited to set osiris music off on what promises to be a bold and progressive year.

the peninsulas finest purveyors of everything bass-related are back in action as iberian records releases the third instalment of the tax haven ep series, where all sorts of musical refugees find exile with unpredictable results. taking a cue from its predecessors, tax haven 3 unites four different artists on wax - bass clef, photonz, cauto and niño - who present four different brands of low-end heavy music for the dance floors, as well as that space between headphones.

genial welcomes 2014 with a new release and at the same time a new member in its roster. it is the italy based dj and producer leon who already has an impressive discography on labels like cecille, saved, defected and many many more. on genial he debuts with a track that has caused havoc every single time it got played for the past 6 months in clubs all over the world. king of the jungle takes us back to the past with its old school break beat, while the robot-esque vocal sample brings a flavour from the future. on the remix duties, the label favourite egal 3 provides a deep atmospheric version full of haunting synths and fxs, totally written for those late mornings when you just want to get lost in the music. on the b side, danish producer martinez is taking us to an almost 14 minutes trip with his concealed dub mix, with a deep but very groovy bass and a special arrangement which will keep you going from the start to end.

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

second release from its berlin-based founder, kennedy smith. bsr002 (vinyl only) follows hot on the heels of the parisians recent electrifying debut for the double r, the white-hot new label from matt edwards (radio slave) and jamie fry (stablo). this latest triumvirate of original material finds smith taking his sound into a deeper techno direction, while still retaining the house grooves of his previous material. bsr002 provides further evidence of why kennedy smith and bright sounds are names to watch in 2014.

galdoors presents a brand new 12inch single of house and techno from london based elgato. on the a side, links chords, strings and vocal edits roll out over a typically rough low end, while sun is a hypnotic, evolving groove taking you deep and down, delivered in his unique minimalist style

the second album by valanx called >ejecta< (18-diam.) gets the remix treatment. four artists, each with their own unqiue sound, have reworked their favourite track of the album and gave the music their own twist and sound. the exaltics turns >beyond doubt< into a dark brooding metallic industrial beast with a strong and dominant sub bass line that will damage your speakers.crc, one half of the finnish electro masters morphology creates a trippy psychedelic techno epic on his take of the track >chasm< and showcases a masterpiece of drum programming and creation of atmosphere. on the flip, >trail of conjuration< gets the remix treatment by admx-71 aka adam x. his version takes the tribal aspects of the original and turns it into a dark industrial techno drenched track that immediately lets you think of an old abandoned warehouse drowned in strobe light and fog and a massive rave taking place.last but not at all least it is louis haimans turn and he creates a wonderful deep dub techno track out of >legion v2<. the sub bass and deep chords are whirling and will hypnotize the listener with endless echoes and reverbs. 300 handnumbered limited vinyl copies only. no digital distribution

moss co. is a new creative venture from the founders of moscow records. the label releases intelligent underground music, focused around minimalistic combinations of groove and emotion. the first offering is a split release from label owner archie hamilton, and young romanian talent hozoc. hamilton pulls rank and leads with *celines dub* which is ethereal, groove-led and filled with tension. delicate tones, snappy percussion and warm bass fill the spectrum to gratifying effect. on the flip hozoc is in heads-down mode on *drama* taking you on a bewitching 10 minute trip, packed with organic instruments and syncopated rhythms.

a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy – perhaps a clue to mr georget… one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.
