one of our most mysterious and intriguing states of consciousness is the dream. we lose consciousness when we enter the deep waters of sleep, only to regain it as we emerge into a series of uncanny private realities. through the fog of the mind we can get a glimpse of a world beyond our day to day realities that sometimes is able to show us deeper truths than those we face in awake states. roger is one of those lucid pioneers that is able to translate these experiences into sound. let him guide you through these wondrous clouds. were very happy to welcome dutch-born german-raised roger van lunteren on sohaso for the first time. his rosa dos ventos ep is a four-track story that oozes retro vibes and nostalgia for a past that never seems to have existed. utilizing raw 80’s analog synths and humanoid acid lines he sets atmospheres that remind of lynchian dreamscapes. vanish starts out with an emotional chord sequence, as you enter the fluid world of the subconscious. a gnarly bassline welcomes your arrival and lets you know things here aren’t exactly what they seem. journeying on through seemingly dark areas, it ends with a hopeful melody and the bass softens as you start feeling weightless. uncontacted uses choral pads and two intertwining 303 sequences as a way of communicating between the different dimensions. aroy dee remixing vanish is like taking a psychotropic liquid, adding more drive to the original while retaining the emotive synth patterns. sleepless is rogers hardest cut on the record, again providing directly plugged in 303 goodness and stomping beats. it rounds off a balanced ep with plenty of introspective dance material.

*refugee camp (bootleg versions)* is a remix album of a song selection from the refugees 1994 debut *blunted on reality* and follow-up *the score*, released in 1996. the album features eight tracks, including seven remixes, and one new recording.

for this ep, jófríður Ákadóttir has re-recorded some of the finest songs from her bands and solo-projects (jfdr, samaris, pascal pinon) with new string arrangements. these versions have a simple, inherent beauty that is juxtaposed with their seething, stark intensity.
to replace the original arrangements with strings was originally planned as a one-off event: when preparing a pascal pinon performance in portugal, jófríður asked nyc-based composer ian davis to help her re-arrange four tracks. after the show jófríður realized that the material deserved to be captured.

iceland’s volruptus returns to bjarkis bbbbbb with five esoteric cuts titled alien agenda. releasing on bbbbbb at the end of last year, volruptus has emerged swiftly on the european party scene, with the icelandic artist popping up on line-ups all over the continent. following releases by norways eod and fellow icelandic talent, lord pusswhip, alien agenda is bbbbbbs third record of the year continuing bjarkis progressive tastes for innovative electronic scandinavian artists. first up, svi,nasti,a 3000 deploys a synthetic, fast-pitched techno revolver fused with space- induced, twisted modulations. a scratch tool titled itchy and scratchy show follows before launching into su,rmatur a celestial 303 synth line layered over scattered electro drums, together providing a magical transcendental experience. alien agenda is suitably an eccentric, idm tinged number – with shades of acid and powerful bass shrills becoming the focus here. last up, misanthropgy (dark stoff) provides an energetic rolling percussive loop, intensifying naturally through cryptic, high-pitched melodies.

matt edwards and multifaceted artist patrick mason team up as srvd with debut release entitled elevate dropping on rekids this august. whether as radio slave or his various other monikers, matt edwards is one of electronic musics most consistent and innovative artists. ever since his early reinterpretations of kylie minogue and new order, edwards has continually commanded respect as a producer and in-demand remixer, whilst as a label owner his rekids imprint is undoubtedly one of house and techno’s most influential platforms. meanwhile, patrick mason continues to conquer the fashion world, a devout club kid and gifted creative turning heads as an outstanding art director, illustrator and model, whose extensive artistic talents include a unique and compelling voice destined for dancefloors. srvds story begins when the pair met in panorama bar, which soon led to edwards and mason hanging out at the studio and later evolved into improvised performances in berlins club scene and beyond. elevate perfectly captures the raw spirit and vibe of their live show, with whispering vocals ushering in precision kicks and piercing stabs until masons mesmerising voice comes fully into play. an homage to the new york vogue scene and a huge hit at panorama bar - where the pair have set the house on fire with three unannounced shows so far this year nasty is a syncopated, bass-driven monster of a cut complete with infectious claps and metallic effects.

since so many european labels have been reissuing lost and obscure 1980s japanese ambient albums of late, it was probably inevitable that at least one label would put together a compilation paying tribute to the sound. it turns out that jazzy couscous has won the race with kumo no moko, a superb double album that does a terrific job in putting japan s 80s ambient scene in context. as you d expect, the majority of the tracks feature either dreamy electronic sounds or a mixture of acoustic and electronic instrumentation, with nods to jazz coming thick and fast. there are naturally a couple of fairly well-known names on show, but for the most part the compilers have done a terrific job in highlight lesser-known tracks from unsung heroes.

another very special ep on al zanders a to z label teaming up this time with vocalist sheyi, for a one-off foray into broken beat territory. the story of its inspiration begins with a trip to notting hill record & tape exchange... after asking for some broken beat, the assistant ventured a withering opinion that -won t be monotonous enough, try the house music section instead- turns out it was phil asher of co-op fame - who, after establishing a genuine desire for said genre - sold al a bunch of west london music which became the influence for this ep. allowing sheyi to shine over a bare bones, syncopated rhythm track on the title cut and an equally stripped down satisfy al amps up the groove, with the g.i.t dub, which was made for ig culture s radio show. limited run on these - don t snooze !

that summer i developed somewhat of an obsession with tonto’s expanding head band after having seen them perform at the big chill festival that year. the music blew my mind. later upon my return to civilisation and the ensuing research which then began in earnest i became as much blown away by the enormous t.o.n.t.o. (the original new timbral orchestra) modular synthesizer that had created the music as i was by the music itself. built in the early 70s, it s still the largest synthesizer around today. with the live show still resonating in my head i tracked down everything tonto had ever recorded. one of these tracks was an obscure outtake from the time t.o.n.t.o.’s creators, malcolm cecil and robert margouleff, were producing and engineering for stevie wonder in the ‘70s(https://youtu.be/wuaszff7yq0). the track, bittersweet, only ever appeared on a highly limited self-released cd put together to coincide with their appearance at the big chill. consequently i featured it on a few mixes i did over the years and invariably i’d be asked “what’s that track?” by those with an ear for something unique. and invariably these same people, many of them djs, would turn away disgruntled when i informed them it was cd only. although i didn t know it at the time, the seed was definitely sown for this vinyl compilation that you now hold in your hands.

orgone records is a new vinyl techno label based in dublin . the ethos of the label is to connect irish artist with other artists around the world by working off a platform of having one irish artist and two remixes from international artists. for the first release dublin’s doug cooney is the featured irish producer with remixes coming from liverpool based binny and berlin based versho. the ep is titled ‘convergences’ . the a side of the ep features doug cooneys tracked titled ‘convergence’ with binny’s remix and the b side features ‘show up’ by doug conney with the remix from versho along with an intro track called ‘w.o.n.t’ to the track ‘show up’.

after reaching 100k subscribers on youtube, the channel houseum cross over to the next step with the launch of their new label houseum records. their first release ‘the four j’s’ features four bumping house tropes from channel regulars bellaire, subjoi, gavinco and jesse bru. this release represents the achievement of the work done on the channel by releasing four tracks with four differing, infectious vibes.

houston-based “gulf coast soul” band the suffers, led by the powerhouse vocals of kam franklin, is a contemporary version of classic r&b bands earth, wind & fire, kool & the gang, the commodores and others. their critically-acclaimed 2016 debut led to performances on late night with david letterman, the daily show and npr as well as high-profile placements such as queen sugar, honda and kit-kat tv spots. with the release of everything here, their most bold statement yet, the suffers are bound to further endear die-hard fans and make believers of new ones. the vinyl lp is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

breach is back with his second release of the year on his new imprint nkdltd. on nkdltd002 breach delivers a two tracker entitled ‘turtle dance which continues where he left off in quality but stylistically stepping into warmer tones for the summer months. nkdltd001 saw the first release from the amsterdam based producer in three years and with it a return to breachs roots. deep, dark & moody tracks which went on to resonate with a broad selection of artists including benji b who went on to play it numerous times on his seminal bbc radio 1 show.

“no security” captures a stand-out stones show, with the band on searing form during the closing leg of their american tour in san jose. treating the crowd to an up-close and personal experience and leaving a frenzy in their wake. the set list spans from the mid-sixties hit singles to the bridges to babylon album, including a bluesy, dramatic version of ‘midnight rambler’, a dark and swaggering ‘out of control’, and the rarely performed live, ‘some girls’ and ‘saint of me’. the show was an electrifying, anthem-packed, cross generational hot ticket, concluding yet another chapter from the band that wrote the book on rock ‘n’ roll.

the legendary gig that joe strummer, singer from the punk rock band “the clash” attended and inspired his writing their classic ‘white man in hammersmith palais’ took place on the 05th june 1977. at the hammersmith palais venue on shepherd’s bush road w6, london during the height of punk mania. the full line up for the show were all jamaican artists dillinger, leroy smart, delroy wilson (all the first time from jamaica) and ken boothe. “ken boothe for uk pop reggae” who had already scored some hits with ‘everything i own’ and ‘crying over you’ in 1974. joe strummer was expecting roots, rock, reggae but the sound system this evening ‘admiral ken sound’ was playing ‘four tops all night’ as in soul and northern soul that were staple crowd pleasers at the time to warm up the audience, but in joe’s eyes the music should have reflected more jamaican roots based music. the song also deals with bigger issues of black and white unity, but some people including the punk rockers. “they’re all too busy fighting, for a good place under the lighting”. joe strummer himself was looking for fun. “i’m the whiteman in the palais... just looking for fun”.

two sprawling sagas just in time for your summer… the fast-rising brazilian-in-barcelona known as terr takes time out from launching her new live show to touch down on planet correspondant. and she does so with two beguiling cyberpunk schematics. authentic down to the last wavy synth idiosyncrasies, both neuromancer and ‘multiverse extend the analog dialogue terrs been parlaying since she emerged on hotflush in 2016. the former swaggers with loose drum charm but swoons with sweeping synth emotion while the latter struts with late night neon fantasies and a stirring sense of synth triumph. both provide the same message: this is terr at her most adventurous, detailed and ultimately hopeful with its strong sense of sci-fi mystique. galvanised by insane levels of relentless cosmic funk from krystal klear on the remix, every track on this ep is guaranteed to spin you into a dizzy state of delirium. precision timing from cardinis correspondant, and yet another exceptional release.

this lp includes misterios cosmogaficos remastered album, originally released in 1983, plus 5 tracks taken from espiritus unreleased cassette originally recorded in 1984: chile was a place where very little space was given for artistic creation, sometimes it was forbidden to create. however, with a determined inner strength, mr. valdés decided to take this project forward self-producing his own tape cassettes (diy culture). he wanted to show the young people, his friends and family that the chilean could create music at the best level in the world.

detroit s inner city, one of the most influential dance acts of all time celebrated their 30th anniversary starting with a memorial day live show on the main stage of detroit’s movement festival this year. formed in 1987 by record producer, composer and international dj kevin saunderson and vocalist paris grey, inner city are best known for their early crossover hits “big fun” and “good life”. further successes saw the group topping the us billboard dance chart five times and securing nine top 40 hits on the uk singles chart.this 30th anniversary will mark a new chapter for inner city, one which sees kevin saunderson now joined by his son and creative protégé dantiez as a full-time member. new material and a live show will soon follow, featuring a variety of musical collaborators and vocalists. movement festival will set the stage for inner city’s new era, with a show formation featuring grammy winner and original inner city bandleader dennis white and kevin saunderson’s long-time collaborator tommy onyx alongside local talent and vocal sensation, steffanie christi’an. in kevin’s own words: “a true family and new sound for a new generation”. with over three decades in the game under inner city’s wing, with a renewed commitment to live performances featuring a strong family core, and two generations of saunderson men in the studio – inner city are poised to enjoy the good life as much today as they did in 1987 and this is entirely evident on the group s latest offering heavy . boasting a stellar edit from detroit techno luminary and inner city collaborator carl craig, heavy is a fresh taste of what s to come from this legendary outfit. essential detroit techno.

during the eighties it was possible to observe an italian fascination with the mysterious far east. this can be found across art, design and music in italy during this time, in subtle or obvious ways. specifically there are italo-disco records that proudly show this influence, some of the best known being: fun fun – -living in japan-, koto – -chinese revenge- and city-o – -rose of tokyo-.

following in this theme is fancy – -null null-. not to be confused with the famous euro-disco artist behind -slice me nice-, this fancy is a one-off project from italo-disco icon raffaele fiume, the artist and voice behind many great italo-disco hits, such as: helicon – -you ... see-, malcom & the bad girls – -shoot me- and ralph river band – -strange vibration-.

adding to the original tracks of the 1982 release is a totally ecstatic and powerful remix from betonkust: one of the most talented and exciting dutch producers of recent years. also included is an instrumental edit from hysteric, for those who find the unique vocals challenging.

monotone is back on wax! after almost 10 years since we have seen a monotone vinyl release, the return is strong. monotone boss larry mccormick comes with a 6 track mini album with straight up pure electro goodness. the follow up to his album on shipwrec entitled intelectro, larry mccormick aka exzakt offers us a more puristic electro sound that he is known for. kicked off by show the way we get that vintage exzakt sound with crisp 909/808 layed kicks, one step ahead goes the more melodic route but still keeps the beat moving. move because i said so is a fun and funky classic electro sound. creator. vibes are massive on this riding melodic jam. eyes on me is a journey, an atmospere with trancy keys and subsonic pads. magic city is a bit of a departure from the normal sound yet still retains the low end.

second proper studio album originally released in 1976 by the king of turkish psych/anatolian rock. recorded in belgium with help from session musicians related to placebo, janko nilovic and mad unity among others, nick the chopper features lyrics in english, huge orchestral sections, and re-arrangements of many of the melodies from his masterpiece 2023. bar&#305,&#351, spent his whole life trying to communicate to the wider world outside turkey. this was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push bar&#305,&#351, up the european charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead.

classic early 80 s wackies album

the second part of the seltron 400 trilogy on most, trans i bas, sees the group re-embark on their singular journey in search of the essence of the rave. since the first ep in the series – zabawa trwa – came out last year, they have augmented their back-to-back dj sets with a full-on live show, which again fed back into their recording process. the record’s title cut, trans i bas (also available in an earth-shaking drum version) is as uplifting as it is spontaneous, complete with trance-infused pads and heavy, tripping bass. jest nadzieja brings a little swing and a mental breakdown, while oo is all crunched riffs and one-finger-string-solo glory. nuff said.

dauwd returns to technicolour with -theory of colours - versions- ep. a new 4-tracker ep containing remixes/reworks of various singles from his debut album. the ep opens with a piano rework of analogische memories , recoded at his studio in berlin and the result of countless hours work - -it took some time, as i had to learn to play piano- dauwd explains. dauwd also makes up one third of the berlin collective, party and radio show, african acid is the future having previously released on kompakt and ghostly international. ukrainian music producer and leleka label boss vakula provides a remix of macadam therapy . fresh from the release of his well received lp -metaphors- and following on from last years -techno game- released via arma and -cyclicality between procyon and gomeisa- released via dekmantel in 2016. aaitf partner romain azzaro aka rouge mécanique provides two remixes of murmure (one -walking-, the other -running-) - -romain and i returned to the studio where i made much of the album in utrecht in the netherlands. we got to experiment again with many of the wonderful machines they had there, in particular the original roland system 700-.

a young french artist based out of paris from corsica, it is from behind her drumkit that charlotte debuts in music. with her first ep, she plunges us in her music s universe. her first track, 777, eponym of the vinyl, along with largo, reflects her melancholiac side combined with an acoustic breakbeat rhythm borrowed from her 90 s influenced. the other tracks, mela & saint marc, show her love for a brutal dancefloor with acid wave inspirations.

singer, songwriter, producer and violinist sudan archives has just released her sophomore ep sink. “sink describes the way i want my music to make you feel,” she says, “it’s inspired by my love of fluidity, movement of jellyfish and water.” the release caps off a highly active spring that included a slew of highly buzzed performances at sxsw (yielding praise from npr, paste, new york times, chicago tribune and more), both weekends of coachella, a tour supporting peanut butter wolf in japan, and a show-stopping performance at form arcosanti. she is currently gearing up for a run of european festivals while prepping for more soon-to-be-announced us dates.

after a wildly successful collaboration on thatmanmonkzs turn it out from the lp, columbus-ing, dave aju suggested they should continue their production streak for a new percussive tracks project. at the same time, aju had finally kept his word to legendary bay area club/underground mc and personality, foxxee aka foxxee brown aka lawrence petty, to work on a track together as well. petty being a core part of the infamous ya mamas house radio show on 106 kmel alongside pete avila and david harness that introduced legions of young bay area djs to real house music, includ-ing aju, in the early 90s.

we share with kaffe crème, a penchant for side roads, for mixing textures and visiting other territories. if house music is at the heart of our project and history, it is often just a medium to cross the path of genres and bringing into some of our other tastes like here jazz, broken beat or hip hop.after his remarkable debut ep in 2016 which was containing the staggering beauty kapo choc that still resonates every weekend in many clubs around the world, we are very happy to welcome, the lyon-based kaffe crème for our fourth release. you ll find there everything you loved about his debut ep, which means, a beautifully produced organic and dusty house music that make a leap into contemporary jazz (i <3 u) and dig into warm finely mpc-sliced syncopated beats. but you ll also find an astonishing broken beat song (umusa) that show all the former-percussionist s talent for making sophisticated and ambitious jazz-infused rhythm compositions.

the saver flex ep offers up no less than four seriously catchy house jams. blue shoe kicks off the proceedings with some funked up percussion, which immediately shows that kolja s background as a drummer has taught him a thing or two about groove. a looping organ lick, some little shouts in the background, big stabs and a massive kick drum push the track forward. cleverly arranged breakdowns allow for a couple of breathers to keep the party action going throughout. moving on to lax wax , we ease up a little with a lighter beat on top of which filtered piano chords, a live bass and just a touch of guitar set the perfect mood for an organ solo that simply oozes summer vibes. buggel runter rutschen keeps the mood nice and sunny while adding more punch with snappy kicks and snares – a hugely danceable foundation for these guys to show us what is so great about 70s and 80s disco and funk that these styles are amongst their biggest influences. you had better ask a german what kagghaufen means, we don t want to put you off your dinner. we hope it will be just as tasty as this track is with its pounding, straight beat, which is counterpointed by bouncy congas, funky vocal cuts, beautiful pads and healthy dose of squelchy acid for good measure. all of this is effortlessly combined to round off the ep in style.

mr bongo presents the first 12inch in a series of remix packages curated from ebo taylors brand new album yen ara. the 81-year-old composer, arranger, guitarist and vocalist has been a key figure in the evolving afro-funk sound since the seventies, working with the likes of apagya show band, ck mann and pat thomas. this 12inch combines three of the best remixers in the business - the legendary ron trent, west coast talent flako, and disco connoisseur nick the record. you will hear the high-energy afrobeat, sweet highlife, jazz and konkoma influences that ebo is famous for, and the remixes have contributed their disco pulse, house groove, and hard-hitting percussive edge to the tracks.

in ancient lddlm times, blddlm even, belgium could well have been the freaky house and ecstasy center of the world. if only we could remember all the lost hours. but after all, as the brussel saying goes: its friday, tomorrow is tuesday. at lddlm, we try not to reminisce, that was just setting the mood.we are very happy to welcome arthur johnson in our non-fold, a young producer from liege via marseille and la dame noir. aj is amongst those ever mutating artists, his u-turns slowly composing a real personality, and one fitting our contrarian attitude. in a way perfect stranger reminds us of a good 90’s farley/heller remix, not so much camp fire island than almost sweaty late night trancer. we love those tracks that do not fit our ethos a priori but that we can’t stop playing. cosmo vitelli is a long time family friend and he beams up this stranger through the axis into some kind of romantic italo-german anthem. ballada and secretary discordia show a different side of aj, a dub march echoing dif juz and a percussive machine funk number. we sincerely hope aj keeps on straying for the best, his way being our way.

joe powers is from edinburgh, far outside the network of the grime capital of london. his caffeinated productions as proc fiskal are faster than usual, with many clocking in at 160bpm. ‘the highland mob’, his 2017 debut ep, opened up his music to open-eared footwork and drum’n’bass fans as well as the grime crowd. after following that up with a jungle-inflected ep on cosmic bridge, ‘insula’ switches the feel and intention towards a personal, and melodic music with one foot in grime, infused with often comic, often wistful recorded moments from his environment. he says ‘i wanted to be aware of where the music is coming from, referencing things i’m presently experiencing, like making grime, my radar radio show, phone addiction, alcohol, my surroundings, girls, depression, positivity, being unemployed, being employed and hating it, my friends etc. trying to be true to myself instead of relying on other peoples’ nostalgia, and focusing on now.’ the record is a huge leap in vision, with delicate, pointillist melodies and intricate edits reminiscent of grime producers such as terror danjah. it also resonates with japanese video game music like that recently explored on the ‘diggin in the carts’ compilation. ‘i think i probably make tunes to get out emotions i don’t express in day-to-day life. i used clips of my friends talking, drunk folk, and general scottish life to preserve and represent what my experience is like right now, like a time capsule. social media notification sounds are designed to release serotonin, which is what i’d like my music to do, to make me, and other people happy, and in using these manipulative noises in a positive way, i like to think i’m taking back the power of the manipulation.’ proc fiskal is adventurous and thoughtful as a producer, and at the young age of 21, his debut album is very advanced in its ideas and execution

the result of nine months locked up with musicians stephane fedele (bass), thomas stadnicki (guitars), lukas melville (drums) and a series of live shows in belgium, second album ‘drape’ fuses the electronic with an occasionally heavy rock feel and outstanding lyrics, all topped off with a french-belgian-tinged vocal and lyrical topicality. music-wise it spans a breadth of influences from the interzone between post-punk, indie pop, psych & noise while geoffroy mugwump lays down conscious, parlando-style, lyrics over nine songs ‘soundtracking our torments in the age of laissez-faire and aestheticisation’.
