second release comes from berlin based b.e.f., soaking you into a deep journey of the now. a repetetive meditation - forward pushing and hypnotising. b.e.f. has been a steady part of parallel berlin since a few years, so it s a logical next step to release his debut solo ep on our label. he has been releasing under different monikers, which have been subjected to quite a lot of variations. he meanwhile found a coherent foundation of a rough, hypnotic and gritty sound. coming along with the process of discovering the most genuine way of expression, he focused on analogue gear. “waveforms are not only a mathematical law, waveforms are everywhere, in all sections of everyday life, in light and in sound. parallel is one of the many parallel universes out there, living and believing in variety, whilst pointing onto respect for various life forms. we do what we love”.

tommy mccook to be leader of the skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the supersonics house band at treasure isle. mccook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer bunny ‘striker’ lee as a member of the aggrovators, the studio outfit lee hand-picked from the cream of jamaica’s musical crop. when enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of king tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. on king tubby meets the aggrovators at dub station, tommy mccook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by johnny clarke, cornell campbell, linval thompson, delroy wilson, and others greats. first issued on third world in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening. reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!

timely outing from two grand masters of exploratory electronics. kassel jaeger is the moniker of french musician françois bonnet who works at the grm and has released a number of books including the highly regarded the order of sounds, a sonorous archipelago published by urbanomic in 2016. jim o rourke is known to most through his explorations of the song and shapes, the high and low, the east and south. wakes on cerulean is a joint adventure where process folds upon process and the operation of procedure remains unknown. amongst a mysterious cloud of excited high frequencies tiny whistling howls. frog leaps in technique lay out a thrilling and uplifting journey that runs from the soothing to ecstatic and back to the buoyant again. wakes on cerulean is a staggering feast of the joys found in electronic process. a malleable bubble of hovering excitement, melody and joyous refrain.

paris, 1954. henri-françois rey wrote the thema of the piece la bande à bonnot and asked boris vian to write the songs in order it to become a musical comedy. la bande a bonnot was the name of a french illegal anarchist group. as soon as the piece was played at théâtre du quartier latin, french authorities made it being stopped. musical parts have been lost. 1971, jacques canetti has been told the original handwritten lyrics of the boris vian songs have been found again. jacques canetti asked louis bessières to re create music parts. 1975, jacques canetti released this record with songs being performed by judith magre, yves robert, lucienne vernay, pierre jamet, kim ibarra, maurice barrier & cécile vassort + 2 bonus tracks whose lyrics were suppsoed to be too for the original spectacle.

rote return to bleed for a second ep release on the label, the first of 2016. formed of daniel avery and label-head volte-face as an open-ended side project, the duo tend to adost an esoteric and experimental approach to techno, expressed in this case with 5 diverse original tracks. as solo artists, volte-face has appeared on svrecas semantica imprint as well as releasing 3 solo eps on bleed thus far. daniel avery is a high-profile fixture on club and festival bills, and is soon to be found contributing to the legendary dj kicks series. ep2 builds on the sound of the duo s debut ep, which was well supported in the underground, and remixed by experimental techno doyens dj nobu and svreca. featuring two heads down eyes closed club tracks, rote 3 and rote 4, two ambient excursions, lifted and sun at night (the latter of which would be equally at home on a psychedelic rock lp!) and a lilting melodic closer, end of the sky

over the years jim coles has turned his hand to a fair few different styles and made them his own. these days, most know his om unit alias as a significant force in fresh developments within d&b (recently found larking about with alix perez, binga and more in the richie brains project on exit records), but it s not always been that way.

i admit i wasn’t familiar with this album, so many just pass us by, but as i sat back and listened, i slowly realized that this isn’t just any soul lp, it’s a masterpiece, full of passion and tenderness, it was like a huge hug from long lost lover... beautiful... enjoy it!

tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino

tom hang is the solo electronic work of lobster theremin label owner jimmy asquith. despite being ridiculously busy either quaking dancefloors across the globe and flowing into the world a continuous catalogue of acclaimed electronic heat, jimmy has found time to follow up his ‘tidy bedroom versions’ release with more original tracks from the heavily dusted harddrive.

under the moniker shed, pawlowitz published three highly ambitious albums in which he defined his work more and more as his own way of musical narration. the final experiment? is definitely the temporary highlight of this evolution. as musical work it does establish shed conclusively as one of the most interesting and substantial electronic music artists of our time. it carries a vibe, that links shed to other boundary breaking artists such as ryuichi nakamoto, brian eno and carsten nicolai. however, shed found a way to develop a highly individual way of communicating electronic music, that is self-sufficient. the last experiment is a mostly homogeneous piece of work, a meditation, where the stylistic confusion seems less important than then musical statement that it represents.

returning to hypercolour with a second volume of his sugar cane chronicles, gary gritness lays down more devastating funk and classy riffing over his trusty roland 606. after the first volume, released last april, sold out its vinyl run, gritness delivers more explorations and adventures into his unique and soulful world. having elusively built his reputation as an outstanding session player, live producer and fantastically dressed funkateer, gritness has delivered a handful of releases on labels like clone crown ltd, nyami nyami and his own diy and cassette-only slikk tapes. steady choosin gets downright fusion-jazz and gritness fires out seductive melodies and latin piano playing of the highest order whilst countin up with starr delves into a darker well of synth mania, with a sexual groove reminiscing of rick james, all the while retaining garys signature licks and riffs. runner joes revenge on the flip ramps up the hysteria for a gritty and colossal production that typifies his love of cyberpunk soundtracks and the drama and narrative to be found in this style. the sugar cane chronicles vol. 2 closes with the low-slung pool shark loot wrapping up on a mysterious and captivating tone, its wandering bassline and melodic touches carrying all the signature gritness sounds, with the p-funk sleaziness on top.

the national park of saxon switzerland in eastern germany, south-east of dresden offers endless ways to have a great hiking journey. the 93km region between pirna and the czech border is one of the most beautiful landscapes in europe. more than 700 summits are available to rock climbers, while for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there are 400 km² of marked hiking-trails, steep treks, paths and some cycle routes through the national park. in this area, called the erz mountains, we found our beautiful cover stone with a typical ore layer inside.

life garden was formed in phoenix, arizona during the fall of 1989 by george dillon, su ling and w. david oliphant. the group was the reinvention of post-industrial band maybe mental (1982-1987) and delved into an ineffable territory, where language failed, their music found root. yogi says tip! life garden s sound focused on creating a space that would transcend people to a world of beauty, intensity and mystery. each release was loosely guided by one member, caught between the tapestry of silence and beauty (1991) was focused towards the poetry and vocals of george dillon who sadly passed away after the completion of the album.

nice price deal !!! airhead continues to impress and confound with his run of releases on r&s. his last release >wait/south congress< found itself gaining praise right across the board. it showcased his atmospheric guitar styles as well as his deft programming skills, resulting in some trying to pigeon-hole his sound in a post rock/electronica direction. this ep proves it not that easy to pin him down with two new tracks of fresh club music. pyramid lake again showcases his expert manipulation of samples, but this time weaves them into a drunken dance groove, full of whirring percussion and heavy bass. black ink is a bubbling, percussive roller that in the hands of a lesser producer would sound like a traincrash. it bounces along almost out of control and sucks you into its charms until it hits you with some uplifting, haunted chords, at which point it is impossible to resist.

die orangen, aka aussie producers dreems & kris baha are teaming up for the first time with 2 new unreleased jams under their new alias. slow and atmospheric, yet punching and grooving die orangen managed to meltdown genres into 100bpm 11 minute long trippy trancey bonanza with a substantial amount of jungle psychedelia and heavy drum machines. one day in sheperton is a more drum oriented industrial power house tune. with the diggerido and distorted voices coming in towards its 2nd half. this ep includes, as expected from the malka tuti crew, with awesome remixes by italian maestros fabrizio mamarella (of slow motion records) and alessandro adriani (of mannequin records), oodandatta rain is an ep that throws the listener back to the early days of partying in anjuna beach, when trance was not yet a genre, but a state of mind, and where the tribal element could be found in all sorts of bizzarre contexts and remote corners.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. on its second release, the fresh label eating records, native of brussels, embarks us on its most unlikely underground journey yet .the new project includes two beautiful tracks from the deep flows of house music, from the unfamous talented producer from kiev, io (mulen). there s no point in trying to place io or his music in some larger social picture. no need to talk about his intensive production. his successful releases can be found on imprints such as rejected (joris voorn), propaganda (nastia), elarum and his own mulen records which he started in 2012 and that released his stunning debut album within 2013. on flutes/creeps ep, he thrives on fantastic impossibilities including flutes and deep melodic basses. it is obvious that mister io had a wonderful time making the two tracks. flutes comes up as victorious and gallant. it is an energizing shock full of curious noises, mesmerizing musical surprises, a real dancefloor track. creeps is discreet and dark, and remains beautifully deep. this track finds io wrenching as much sweetness out of it as he possibly can, in return giving us our first indication that he is in a generous spirit. when this ep comes to an end, it feels like getting back from a good vacation: the last thing you want to do is re-enter the real world.

soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is envoy s timeless classic, dark manoeuvres. originally released as part of the “coalition ep” in 1996 (which also featured the classic seawall), hope grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every techno dj’s record box and has continually served as a beacon of soma since it’s release. four new versions are served up here as dax j, norman nodge, obscure shape & shdw plus tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this soma classic.

nyc loft trax exploded onto the scene a year ago with a white label containing unreleased dat tape archives from the 1990 s. people lost their minds and it proceeded to sellout of shops in what seemed like minutes! with anything that is from an unknown lost world you have your doubters, but those that know could hear and feel the validity of these authenthic tapes. you seriously could not capture the vibe that obviously was witnessed on that record. the label continued to dig into various sources to release all types of unreleased and amazingly good records. so with the integrity we see this label exercise get excited as this is another selection of lost yet found 1990 s dat tape trax! this is the real deal, let s not kid ourselves now. lots of hot heat on this one containing deep, dubs and disco! side note: the city in particular has a nu groove records story attached to it. basically it is the instrumental of an unreleased remix. that s all we have been told on that one. interesting! grab this now! expect this to go fast!

dublin based disco imprint fatty fatty phonographics return with the 4th instalment of their downtownsounds classics series, this time throwing three stone-cold classics onto one 12, all given the re-edit treatment by in house producers pablo and shoey. voiced by leroy burgess, with drums by hip hop legend marley marl and production by the aleem brothers, release yourself was a huge across-the-board anthem in the clubs of nyc on its release in 1984. the lads have superglued elements of both the vocal and dub sides together for an epic end of night take on this beloved classic. the b side features two under appreciated classics from the pen of one billy nichols, a man known for his work with west end records (the levan mixed give your body up to the music ) and the funky band of brothers that was bt express. on take me... nichols hooked up with disco master patrick adams for an emotional, string drenched disco belter that has found favour with the likes of dimitri from paris, floating points and hunee. while dance if off is a wonky proto acid-disco trip beloved of rahaan and eric duncan of rub n tug. with copies going for over 300 euros, you can do your bank account and your dancefloor a favour here.

highly limited 10- dubplates. following on from medium’s hugely successful 6th chapter in our project mohawk series, we waste no time gearing up for number 7, and make no mistake, it’s one of the biggest. for the next instalment, we handed the creative reigns to kaset. already treasured as one of our brightest talents, he showcased his early abilities in the edm.com premiered ‘contour’ from our musical currency volume 3 compilation, but that alone was the briefest insight into what would follow. more a mini album than an ep, kaset presents seven tracks of what we feel is his finest music to date. each track stands up to objective scrutiny in its own right, but together they form a body of work that few can deny is seriously on point. this is an ep for the heads, the only punches it pulls are bass laden ones to the solar plexus. those out looking for the freshest of deep beats, it’s time to load up, you’ve just found them!

limited repress due to high demand on requests. eating records was born in the brussels underground scene, inspired by the idea of synthesizing two different horizons to get a beautiful concept. in the beginning it was simply the need to go back to roots and try to connect with the present and future, but eventually it ended up with a modern groovy label. the first release of the label was not that easy to find. the eclectic worlds of the two members did not really help them. but that was until they found jr from dallas - a talented dj producer from lille, owner of gourmand music recording - maybe food is the key... who knows ? jr has always been a forward-moving artist, but his music cannot - and should not - be mapped linearly. after releasing on labels as farris wheel recordings and greenhouse recordings, he had nowhere to go but backward for his new ep on eating records to its 90 old school beats and hypnotizing basses. phonical deep is gorgeous and evocative all the same. technival is stylish enough, and it is as restlessly creative as you would expect. it is followed by the hypnotic and beautiful remix of jay bliss of phonical deep - the eps final track. the fact is, jay bliss has managed to create something so refreshingly unique that trying to categorize and label his remix is rather dubious. he transformed the original melodic part to a blissful pad embellished with a repetitive rhythm spiced with tiny subtle details. it is easier to see this remix as the backbone of electronic music - simple and repetitive but never boring.

whilst searching through the tapes we found a gem…marked larry levan remix! so, now on vinyl for the first time ever, the remixes from the legendary house pioneer. an essential piece of wax for all discerning heads! groove committees i want to know, produced by victor simonelli and released in 1991 on the seminal nu groove, is something of a timeless us house classic. exclusive import release from the states.

the first release which is just round the corner is by the australian duo anthony fade, two hidden gems found on soundcloud. their process is a simple combination of hardware and software instruments and heavy use of ambient recordings and various samples. the ep titled “like that” contains four tracks of late summer vibes, dreamy vocals and a massive dose of energy getting ready for winter.

holovr is jimmy billingham who also records under the aliass tidal, venn rain, journey of mind & holographic mind - he has released music on firecracker records, opal tapes and hooker vision as well as his own indole records release information anterior space may strike some listeners of a certain age as an echo of the gilded age of armchair techno exemplified by warp records artificial intelligence comps. theres a similar convergence of the cerebral and the blissful in the four epic compositions holovr (aka jimmy billingham) finesses from his analog and digital synths as that found on those early-90s pieces by black dog, b12, and others.

as icelandic techno receives recognition like never before, so nonnimal steps up to ae recordings with a fine ep that sports many of the hallmarks of this particular corner of scandinavian culture. there s a spacious, dubby minimalism that pervades throughout freyja, but what really sets the record apart is the considered deployment of found sounds, heavily processed and sticking out in the mix to inject some unpredictable energy into these largely calm oceans of rhythmic hypnosis. even without such decoration the music is exemplary, as on the haunting lilt of the title track with its subtly shifting pads tuned to the emotional maximum.

them records welcomes back hiroaki iizuka for the its fifth outing. having supplied the the run as the labels first record, here iizuka doubles its play time and track listing length in his stunning voodoo ep. the extra time offered allows iizuka to flex more of his versatile style. them as a label sets out to eschew a techno norm largely made up of a traditional 4 x 4 sound. having come from a london background, the curating of the label gives a nod to the rave sounds of the capital - especially d&b, garage, breakbeat hardcore and grime. that is to say of course along with its characteristic aesthetic of horror and the gothic.
in iizuka them found a common ground: based in hokkaido, japan, iizuka does not share the same london influences, yet shares their base values and thrust. common themes of his sound involve broken and syncopated beats, and a rave energy. this is what lead him to being the first and prime them stable artist. voodoo ep showcases this breadth of iizuka’s style, from tracks that could easily fit into any grime set, such as primitive acid, to the more melodic tones of floating point, in which hiroaki guides them into previously untrodden ground for the imprint.

greek producer markos spanoudakis aka kreon has certainly made an impact on the electronic music scene.his percussive and jazz tipped sound has found its place through solo releases for labels such as cecille, robsoul and many more seminal underground imprints. his latest offering on serialism has been widely received by a small handfull of the scenes elite who have been dropping tracks from the ep all summer hualtor kicks of proceedings with delayed vocal stabs that roll over a 4x4 kick and a doubled up snare. the bass groove cleverly pitches up and down and is completed with a series of shuffled hi hats which complete this minimalistic winner. up next on a2 is forpsyche, which encomopasses a tough and rolling drum selection with swing added for good measure, a sub bass, warm pads and erratic lead stabs bring the all the elements together nicely. third track ‘valtera’ then keeps to kreons signature laid back grooves, shuffling drum licks and the use of processed vocal stabs, the track seamlessly rolls with a series of lo-fi glitches and pitch shifted chord stabs. finally forpyke rounds off the package as it rolls out a sure fire drum selection full of swing and stripped-back percussive hits, repetitive chord textures ebb and flow throughout the composition which results in a truly hypnotic and raw dance floor killer, with intricate percussion patterns that are packed full of swing.

acclaimed be as one boss shlomi aber makes a big step up here by putting out a trio of his killer techno cuts on the always excellent and forward looking nonplus label run by boddika. his xy play ep continues in his no nonsense, floor facing style and impresses once more. shlomi aber is an underground titan who runs his own musical empire in the form of his be as one label. he has made it into an essential outlet for no frills house and techno and his own output has found him in fine favour with djs and dancers alike. playing all over the world and also serving as an expert at the emerging ibiza festival on the white isle, here he comes correct once more. the title ep xy play is a brain frying affair with cantering drums and stern synths bringing a dark and intone vibe to the groove. way old story is just as heads down but less ominous, here the synths are a little spooky and add intrigue to his slick rubbery drums. last but not least related sources is a hunched over house track with dub in its kick drums and a desolate industrial feel in the landscapes above. atmospheric from the first to the last moment, this is another killer ep from shlomi aber.
