glasgows taz buckfaster - or just taz - was one of rwinas earliest discoveries.his two eps on rwina have leaned towards the dubstep side of things,imbuing them with the playful hip-hop inspired mischief that remains the rwina trademark, playing with dub skank on kingston bridge and sending off firecrackers of concentrated synth melody in nearly uncontrollable bursts on 20 red. he now makes a welcome return to the label at the end of 2011 with the neurotica ep with four brand new tracks of uncompromising glaswegian heat.

kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

komisch welcomes another new artist to its fold for its last release of 2011.p.god aka paolo dioguardi hails from naples in italy. still in his 20s, he makes music that belies his youth and neptune iv sounds like the work of a veteran producer. lead track approaching an ocean planet sees grainy, dense beats and hypntoic bleeps take the lead, but hovering above the arrangement, tethered to the reverberated, doubled up claps, are ghostly, eerie chords. the title track adopts a similar approach, with bursts of metallic percussion underscoring spacey pads as p.god drops a droning, tunneling rhythm track. finally, geometric shadows on iced surfaces sees the young producer opt for a deeper approach. this time the chords envelop a purring groove, but the same sense of understated menace is still audible thanks to the austere hats and bleak subsonic bass. capturing jeff millss estoeric side and the hypnotic magic of sleeparchive, neptune iv is a real techno journey!

the next llfo comes as a split ep. swedish master of minimal house and argentinian techno veteran franco cinelli gathering to show underground dance musics status quo. franco cinellis da beatz on the a side, is a funky old school composition. the drums are the main plot of the track. twirling snares and classy rides accompanied by a very familiar sample give us a 1995 feeling. pandemonium on the b side, martinez contribution for this wonderful split ep, is his interpretation of modern house in perfection. as usual tight drum patterns, the for to the floor attitude and a low-fi bassline supported by a trippy vocal sample. probably one of his best work of late.

although relish compilation 3 marks the third compiled label round up for headmans relish recordings, it is a compilation only in form, it has been constructed out of new tracks very much in the guise of an album. in label terms it highlights the new artists that have been unearthed this year – jr seaton, andreas esu, hannalelauri, daniel avery, international, montevideo – and presents them alongside new tracks from headman. ep 1 starts on side a with hannulelauris europa, a strict reverence to europes dance legacy. then it slips on into a quick thrust 808 funk of headmans latest be loved. be loved features the vocals of belfast singer rosie blair from the band boy of girl. we then glide through the straight chicago cut of andreas esus dance in space on side b and popping nrg/italo from chmmrs collaboration with glaswegians, a strict reverence to europes dance legacy.

man make musics second release is a collaboration between two talented londoners, jack dixon and rick grant. having already made waves with individual releases on labels such as brownswood, hypercolour and take, these two good friends now offer up a pair of brilliantly off-kilter house tracks. >running man< is a heady mix of skipping percussion and caressing juno synth-lines, whilst, on the flip, >muted< takes a more understated, melancholic turn, counterbalancing the ecstatic nature of the a-side. jack and ricks contributions are also offset by kevin mcphees weird and wonderful slow-mo interpretation of >running man<. the remix blends vocals drenched in reverb with creeping piano riffs and shows yet another musical side of a man garnering plaudits from all corners for his unique style.

nice price deal !!! following on from the likes of maya jane coles and t.williams, next to release on ever cultured hypercolour off shoot hypeltd is toronto beatsmith kevin mcphee. with releases on labels like idle hands and nakedlunch in 2011, this man has established himself as one of the finest and freshest producers of the year. here turning in four more original cuts, mcphees fascination with house apparently continues apace. mcphee very much has his own fine grain analogue aesthetic… this most delightful ep only confirms that.

having finished recording the new zombie zombie album (out: april 2012), etienne jaumet leaves temporarily the duo to record a solo piece, as a need to find oneself again … if the word satori means spiritual awakening, the title track that offers etienne seems to describe the way to this awakening … a winding and sometimes dark path, taking inspiration from both dark disco and synth wave (etienne is particularly keen of those genres, you can listen to his new podcast for versatile records as an evidence) and also to some kind of trance… on b side, jon convex, newcomer on the dubstep / uk garage field and signed on martyns label, delivers a clearly club oriented version, by injecting syncopated beat and the funky groove unique to uk garage.

ashley gets low down and dirty with the southern rock giants the black crowes. their >i aint hiding< track was a real marmite moment for their fans. ashley (being a fan) turns the stonesy disco rock track (think miss you) inside out to create a psychedelic dancefloor wig out. already a big fave with the horse meat disco crew this has been one of mr beedles most requested edits/reworks over the last couple of years and he has decided to let this one out the vaults. its a monster.

3 years ago patrick & frederic started their marvelous career as kaiserdisco and made it to one of the most interesting acts in the global underground scene. they are not only a techno or minimal act, kaiserdisco is fascinating people all over the world cause they are producing music from lazy deep house to groovy techno, always with the right sense for the dancefloor. in the last years they remixed artists like booka shade, kosheen, extrawelt, sebastien leger, 2000 & one...., and had releases on legendary labels like drumcode, 100% pure, strictly rhythm, my best friend, global underground etc... and now it is time to start their own imprint. the first kd music release la famillia ep comes from kaiserdisco themselves. the a-side la benjamina is a typical kaiserdisco anthem. strong beats, groovy bass and a hypnotizing melody. you can feel it in every second of this track how much fun it was to produce this piece of music. especially the big break will make you go mad!! hija major on the b-side is a heavyweight techno layout. a massive rolling bassline catches you from the first second! the hole track reminds you of a fast rolling train packed full of wood. it rattles from first to last and when it falls into the breaks you can imagine it pushes the train even more and more and more...

here comes the master on carillon also known as alessio mereu. with an ep that soon will be released on steve bugs legendary pokerflat imprint, alessio delivers to our label a single really different from his typical style and approach to electronic music ... hot as hell!
first on the a side we have >hot - spot< a track with a taste of electronic and latin vibes with psychedelic voices and a solid groove.
then we have alex cellers version (cecille - area remote) that takes the main sense of the track and rebuilts it for a very stylish version rich of percussions and emotionality.
for the b-side we have >fire - hot<, a groovy club track for peak times with spoken vox sample from black poetry that really reminds the 80s rap style from the ghetto.

in 2011 some berlin based recordshops try to reclaim the streets with the so called >record store day< for the first time in germany. also kann was asked for a limited vinyl to support their concern. on that specific occasion we bring a new two track ep except for the regular series. kann rsd breaks ranks with an extra beautiful edit of the awesome witchwaver sunglitters, composited by nuremburgs essay. b-side builts back the bridge to the label and gives finally >aperture< from sevensol & bender the appropriate space. the track was originally released on kann00 in 2008. for the artwork kann is pretty happy to won over famed – a chummy art collective – for doing an impressing independent work.
