alexander robotniks futuristic take of the led zeppelin classic has been unearthed from dusty vaults circa 1983. the original may be an acquired taste with its off kilter vocal delivery, however, another version takes this cover to another level dubbing out the vocals and using snippets to devastating effect. a true diamond in the rough, with its synth melodies ropping in and out of the classic riff and running riot, this is prototype electronic disco at its finest

orlando riva sound (commonly abbreviated as o.r.s.) was a german group founded in 1977 by anthony monn and rainer pietsch. they released this seminal and hard to come by disco album body to body in 1978, which gets a timely reissue. the a side contains 2 of the best disco boogie tracks ever made in the shape of body to body boogie and moon boots. these versions differ from those compiled on the original ariola pressing, as they have been mixed and extended by disco legends bobby dj guttadaro and tom moulton respectively. the flipside contains another rolling deep soulful nugget sweet release (again mixed by bobby dj guttadaro), the heavy driving funk bomb disc mussorgsky, plus the sci fi freak out of dream machine. all killer no filler.

afulab welcomes our new man from iceland: oculus (fridfinnur sigurdsson). in a country that has been struggled big time by the crisis oculus still found the energy and motivation to present us these three gems of dancefloor vulcanos! outerbody experience has this magnetic groove and with it s evergrowing tension will leave nobody unexcited and untouched! this is a true gem and will surely be found in the cases, laptops or cd players of the grand players! color continues on the flipside holding the level right up and is rounded up with a smooth track named lr. a very nice package indeed and a bright new hope for iceland.

>i m that alley< is the new single from south african shock-poppers sweat.x. it comes as they embark on their two month european tour and is a taste of their forthcoming album >187<. >i m that alley< is a departure from vocalist spoek mathambos hyper-surreal rap style, and, together with markus wormstorms finely designed production, is a modern take on the classic synthpop love song. accompanying the title track is >the knife<, a freaked peek into the world of sweat.x, a favourite of their live shows, it finally gets released here. third track on the single is a remix of >i m that alley< by new york-based mike slott. slott has been making waves with his work as one half of heralds of change and this remix is his best work to date and is already being used to close out his live set. the release also includes instrumental versions of >the knife< and >i m that alley< for maximum club efficiency!

pole folder has emerged as an intrinsic part of the emotive dance music juggernaut that has been steadily powering through club land over the course of the last few yearsà alongside djs such as guy gerber, guy j, and james holden, pole folder has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. his first 2 releases on label la tour garnered huge support from the likes of sasha, laurent garnier, luciano, carl cox and christian smith. this offering starts off with pole folders original, which features the vocals of sean ryan, delivering epic slabs of sound, stacked atop glitchy lo-fi drums that result in a listening experience that simply swallows you whole. the vocal whilst gritty retains a rich and lush quality that is the perfect overlay to this track.

following up the intrusion & paul st. hilaire project comes a new release from the intrusion imprint which offers a killa selection of steppas riddims and tropical grooves. intrusions >velocity in a minor< is all about being playful with a sequence, splicing a riddim, stimulating the mind while shuffling your feet. this concludes with the mysterious lo-fi soundsystem up next who make their first 12 inch appearance on intrusion (previously recording under a variety of names strictly on 45) their powerful >de lions den< has been given a second lease on life from its scarce 45 release, (which was only available at a few small record shops in jamaica) this island groove is filled with the dankiest skanks, a melodica on acid and a bassline deeper than the ocean. this mystical midnight groove is given a rework in a 4/4 rhythm and effects from deep space, behind the controls is intrusion front man stephen hitchell who leaves us with a tasty embellishment in fat riddims and icey cold electronics. the b side opens with mildious >de natura rerum< which crosses into territory comparable to intrusions >tswana dub< or the atmospheric dub side of rhythm & sound, a powerful mind melter which does all the rights things in all the right time. the closing >oceanview< paints a picture of just that, leaving you to wander off into the ocean breeze while sinking into its smoky green vapour haze.

so the story goes: a few years ago i played a cool underground party in stockholm with my good friend and crazy record collector mark seven. early on that night mark played me this beautiful and melancholic piece of music. mark happily handed me his spare copy and my record collection for a second felt a little more complete… originally released as a b side track to als slipshod ep on out of the loop the track continued to mesmerize whenever i played it and the fact that so many people loved it and equally as many didnt know the record i though a re release could be a great idea. its inclusion on gerd jansons recent sonar kollektiv compilation and the fact that its been played by legendary dj harvey ( o bearded one as hes known to by the initiated) has obviously helped to spread its fame to. the previously issued part 1 with the original and bogdan irkük remixes has gone down a storm with all the cool movers and shakers... oh yeah baby. now its time for the last chapter with equally mindboggling gatto fritto remix, mark sevens version and my own just plain silly rework. toodle oooo, thomas(oslo, 7th of august 2009)

a temporary sabbatical from gigs was taken and the band wrote material for where were you when it happened in new orleans midtown district, where their rawboned compositions resembled the katrina-pummeled surroundings. with their girlfriends with them in as close to a stableenvironment as they d been in months, they were able to tap a darker, more personal side in songs like as noise, and hunt you down, with its mournful, organ drenched air belying monotonixs typical good time charlie posturing, while fulfilling the albums need for a climactic, balladic moment. where were you when it happened? finds monotonix visiting a greater diversity of places within their sound while still retaining their minimal appeal. mostly though, where were you when it happened works up a sweat with raw rock and roll, acid guitar licks and riffs, screaming choruses and, in general, the wildness of monotonix in a way that makes for repeated album listening (and pummelling). where most bands refine their production sound as they go forward, monotonix have reverse refined themselves, playing dirtier and more energetic to capture the lightning they are known for.

loco dice support! its been a while since itamar sagis last release on be as one, when black gold and its remixes got into the most various record boxes around and became one of last year anthems. now, after a row of releases on soma, ovum and klapklap which consolidated his ever growing profile, itamar is back on his home imprint, with a real summer treat. in perfect sagis style, the a side >selio< is an uplifting and punching slab of techno, with a real fat beat and itamars distinctive trademark chord sound. once again another track to be one of the anthems of 2009. b side >series 1< is instead a paced down and trippy number. very atmospherical in the mood but with a bouncy groove, still carries the artist quality imprint. perfect for the summer ending.

lets have fun! - thats the mantra of big zis and the crew of nation music. the swiss black music label has been broadening its musical spectrum over the past years. just like the artist big zis, whose music could most likely be labeled electro pop alternative punk rap, they dont care about common conventions. while rap becomes more and more pimped out, house loopier and minimal narrow-minded, big zis hooks up with a top-class troupe to get it her own way. for her most recent album und jetz … (and now …) she worked with marton di katz and valentino tomasi (both members of kalabreses famous rumpelorchester), who laid the musical foundations for most of the songs. for the impulsive electro on the track suure räge (acid rain) however, big zis collaborated with the techno producer michal ho (tuningspork) at the studio. suure räge got remixed by several well-known producers: robag wruhme (freude am tanzen) and canson (gs zürich) are to be found on volume 1 and the soul brothers lexx (aka kawabata / drumpoet) and kalabrese (stattmusik) successfully combat boredom on volume 2. the sound scapes of the remixes couldnt be any more diverse and cover a broad variety of styles. and be sure: volume 3 - work in progress - will delight you as well

nice price deal !!! the songs on yachts debut album see mystery lights from the bouncy, burbling you cant take it with you screed the afterlife (which plays like a less spastic companion piece to the mae shis run to your grave) to the roller rink ready vocoder vocals of im in love with a ripper represent yacht at their most poppy. its a collection of stone jams that finds the band finally as hellbent on experimenting and expanding the boundaries of its sonic scope as it is on having fun. built on electronic foundations laser effects, skittering computerized beats, and spacey synth lines (or guitar riffs that have been tuned or distorted to sound like synths) these new songs are giddy with creative freedom while remaining tethered in service of their melodies. the vocal melodies are bright and buoyant, but delivered (by either band member, or in unison) in a chanted, oftentimes detached monotone that plays up the repetitive lyrics mantra like feel and adds a welcome undercurrent of slacker cool to their otherwise sugary optimism.

ironic? no, it’s dead serious: sally shapiro keeps on dreaming of barbie and ken. sometimes good things come to those who wait, as is the case with sally shapiro. one shouldn’t really imagine the bashful swede from göteborg, who never performs live, setting a new trend for turning down lucrative offers. and the thought that she is working on something hip, is most likely even a little eerie for her. after all, she s just into something, which she’s been doing since her childhood in the 1980s — singing songs in the style of her idol sandra (”maria magdalena“). if she hadn’t met her companion johan agebjörn, who despite his musical socialization with techno in the 1990s has been deep into italo disco for the past few years and is a collector of zyx records, sally’s passion for synthi songs and fairy-like female vocals would have remained private. however, johan was screwing together some italo-style songs when he asked sally (whose voice he’d only heard from a previous christmas party karaoke) if she would improvise on his soft keyboard tunes, their collaboration was a done deal.
subsequent to their first releases on the labels diskokaine and permanent vacation, sally shapiro suddenly found herself in the midst of the ultra-hip neo/italo-disco movement, which is especially big in scandinavia. why of all things on the northern peninsula, where one traditionally listens to black metal and indie rock played with legs spread apart, the peculiar, yet sunny disco music became such an export hit, stays one of the mysteries of the pop business. it’s a fact, though, that next to internationally celebrated norwegian neodisco-heroes lindström, prins thomas and todd terje, the lovely sally has become the scandinavian disco-act in the mean time.

the third in struts inspiration information studio collaboration series brings together an intriguing pairing between one of africas great bandleaders, mulatu astatke, with the next level musicianship of the heliocentrics collective from the mighty roster of stones throw / now again. known primarily through the successful ethiopiques album series and the film soundtrack to jim jarmuschs ?broken flowers, mulatu astatke is one of ethiopias foremost musical ambassadors. his selfstyled ethio-jazz sound flourished during the swinging addisÑ era of the late 60s as he successfully fused western jazz and funk with traditional ethiopian folk melodies. the heliocentrics have become known as one of the uks foremost free-thinking collectives of musicians, inspired by a wide palette covering sun ra, james brown, david axelrod and all manner of psych, afro and eastern sounds. the collective have featured on records by madlib and dj shadow. now a fixture within the stones throw / now again roster, they forged their own genre-breaking directions in the astral analogue groove on their 2007 debut album, out there. a number of tour dates around the release and headline slots at festivals throughout 2009 have been confirmed.

the schaffhaeuser & friends series was so much fun to make and so well received, it now enters round three with an additional bonus vinyl. all tracks on this ep have never been released, not even on the cd edition of >unequal equality<.

for almost as long as there have been djs, there have been dj tools: bonus beats, acapellas and ambient overlays have long been the stock in trade of selectors interested in more than simple crossfades from outro to intro. but back at the beginning of 2007, luciano put a new twist on a triedand- true idea with no model no tool. the inaugural release on cadenza split composition, a sublabel of the iconic swiss imprint, no model no tool revitalized the recombinant concept, offering djs a selection of readymade miniatures that worked like sonic building blocks—oddly-shaped bits and pieces designed to be stacked and shuffled to the djs delight.

its been quite a long time since we invited other artists in to remix our tracks, given the great response to our lastest creation >the raw road<, we thought this was the perfect time to do it again. to this end, it is our great pleasure to welcome nic fanciulli and mark broom to give us their own unique versions for our 24th release. both artists represent different arenas of dance music that we love and both clearly take inspiration from very different paths.

zuckerwatte is the second single from oliver koletzkis new album >großstadtmärchen<. and zuckerwatte, which translates as candyfloss is a truly magical tale about love and loss in the big city. the original features juli holzs softly whispering voice that is so very fragile, and so very beautiful. this is a softly grooving electro-pop discovery. but of course this song has also been transformed for the dancefloor on this single that also features two more tracks from olivers album. first up is the remix by david august, one half of the duo august & bachert who delivers a top-notch glitchy tech-house edit that makes great dramaturgical use of the original track. next up is björn störigs vision of zuckerwatte. the drummer of olivers live outfit the koletzkis envisions juli holz perform her sweet and sticky singing over some neo-soul tech-rnb influenced electronica that features a spanish guitar, some great claps and some very nice synthesizers. on the flip there is koletzkis instrumental house-homage kusskompatibel and these habits, on which only seventeen-year-old singer pyur makes her debut. she sings wonderfully harmonic over this down-beat trip-hop groove and it results in a great hit for the late summer. this single is more than a single. its the best thing before the album

continuing along with our uplifting vibes from our last get digital release, ‘amourette’, courtesy of pierce & jerl, the next installment comes from the talented swedish producer and dj, tiger stripes. since his first productions mikael nordgren has been embraced by the whose who ofthe continental house and techno music scene. prominent producers such as carl craig, king britt and jerome sydenham have all heavily supported his music.the latter with whom he has a collaborative project called go bang. since his last ep, blackroom entertainment, appeared on get physical last summer he has stayed busy through an onslaught of remix requests for manyrespected labels.

two of turbo s rising stars come together to make one of the biggest records of the year. peanuts club has been arguably the hottest track of the summer for heavyweight djs erol alkan, tiga, and a-trak. it s instantly catchy and massively effective, and we ve seen it bring the best out of the crowd night after night, but you probably already know all about it. the real coup here is that cajou club is another absolute bomb, maybe even better than peanuts club, and more disturbing evidence that france has produced yet another two major-league players in dance music. noob s really been hitting his stride lately, following on terrific remixes for brodinski and d.i.m. and tai s lyposuct, his productions getting exponentially bigger with each release. as for brodi, anyone that s seen him play knows he has all the makings of a star, and if he can keep putting out records this good, the sky s the limit! wanting to go beyond double-megahit and attempt quad-bomb status, we commissioned a terrific remix from sound pellegrino s renaissance man. noob & brodi are in love with it, plus they re the only finns out there to have not produced a record for turbo, so it was a perfect fit. the ph 0 remix on the vinyl is, incredibly, an original take on acid, it s loopy and weird, but works like magic.

after almost 2 years without publishing new material. the label properproud reappears with this ep limited to 250 copies. the owners of the label santi and roger (strange connection) have worked very hard to remind everyone with this record that the electro-techno and ebm will not die ever! this time, properproud back with more force and with the intention of staying forever. closing mouths includes 4 tracks of 4 major artists and the name isn t coincidental. it s time to shut many mouths that don t rely on this kind of music the first one closing mouths (a1) has been signed by the owners of the label (strange connection) is the first time published in properproud. a track of pure ebm, dark and evil but with great force and which has received great support from artists like angel molina and dave clarke who has played several times in his white noise radio show. the second one hurt me (a2) has been signed by jonathann cast in collaboration with the voices of drey. after publishing in dancefloor killers come to properproud and do it in a forceful and dark track that can move any dance floor. bluntly electro-techno and without mercy! on b side, we find 2 of the best signings he has made during that properproud parentheses. in the first cut (b1) adriano canzian, currently one of the most bizarre techno artists, with halim the dream shows because david carretta and dj hell is set in it. a brutal track, direct and intended to enjoy it in a club. dave clarke has supported it without hesitation. and to finish off the ep, ruben montesco (b2), after his passage through lasergun and other labels turn to properproud to demonstrate in madrid that also makes good techno and ebm. insomniac s red room is a dark track, evil but with a lot of energy and a perfect voice. rubÚn besides being a great friend and supporter of properproud is undoubtedly one of the best producers of this style at national level. 4 tracks that shape a piece of craft for lovers of brazen sounds and is the first of a series of 12 inch that will see the light soon and will be limited to 250 copies. properproud is back .... stop the minimal. use your brain!

sdj stingray aka. urban tribe aka. sherard ingram is one of detroits most original techno artists. after recording a legendary downbeat album on mowax, stingray supported drexciya as official dj, which inspired him to developed his own aquatic electro sound. alex cortex has been on the forefront of german techno since the mid nineties, with his first record tubed (1996) being a big clubhit in germany.

afu limited welcomes alex long to it s artist catalogue and he starts with two slammin and cool technotracks with ultra trippy vocals! there is not much need to say anything about these tracks, just listen and enjoy the trip through the space age with a fast beating heart! since he was young, he has always been impressed by the sounds of the synths, electro pop and later on acid house. in the beginning of the 90ies, when the slovenian electronic scene was still in the making, he was a regular guest in the legendary k4 and palma in slovenia. he was taken further into the world in 1998 when he took his first steps behind the turntables and he has been producing music since 2004. since then, he has had quite a few releases and remixes for different record labels. he has dj gigs with huge names of the electronic scene and in large festivals in slovenia and became the official slovenian hero of the future in 2007 at the disconautica festival.he spends much of his time in his studio, where his thoughts are converted into notes and melodies, and as he often states, he finally found a style that suits him and always finds a challenge in. what is that style? he doesn t like to be defined by a specific music style, as he prefers and is influenced by many different genres of electronic music. alex long is definitely a name we will hear of in the future!

urban nomad tolga fidan continues vakants limited series valt with a much sought-after track which has been around for a while. fidan, just moved to berlin a few weeks ago, says >so long paris< in such unique style that that we hope he will never leave berlin again. vakants valt series has been kicked off last year with onur Ízer and keeps on delivering music straight for the dancefloor.

rebolledo is an artist from xalapa, mexico, who is very much part of the comeme family of latin american artists. he s been around from the early days when he used to provide music for the buenos aires based bumbumbox street parties. so far he s had tracks on previous comeme releases, notably pitaya frenesi, but this is his first full release on his own. rebodello is the consummate comeme artist, with a quirky sense of humour, a unique latin american approach to dance music and a lean lo-fi approach to track making that is built to cut through on any sound system. lead track >guerrero< follows in comemes now established strange sense of humour, guerrero means warrrior and is a track about a >guerrero< who comes out at night and dresses in leather, it s all shouted vocals simple beats and 80s style synths. venganza y seduccion means vengeance and seduction and features suggestive panted echoing vocals over a cosmic disco bassline, while atmospheric chords build in the background, if this sounds strange it s because it is, but the combination works really well in a club.
the b side of the record is much harder and more techno-like - marchante is completely different, aggressive kick drums, a pulsing bassline and siren-like synths bring this track a panicked feel, which is offset by the way the drums build into tough patterns. raid features strange nonsense vocals over a pulsing rhythm track that reminds of old chicago acid, if it wasn t for the strange atmosphere. rebodello is a very welcome addition to the world of dance music.

elon returns to dumb-unit with 2 sublime summer works. treading lightly on current trends but with full individual strength he jacks the notion of what a modern techno djs should deliver in this day and age. fxck cuba is a layered and playful excursion into what the post minimal freestyle years have allowed us to achieve. freedom from constraints & styles. he then continues the mood on >right on babe< an ode to slinky summer sex, here elon pushes a dark and nasty feel that will grind hips this summer.next up is a man we have been eyeing for some time and his first foray onto dumb-unit is a stormer. ahmet sisman, the upstart from essen who has already made major waves (including being featured being on sven väths sound of the 9th season), takes the remix to another dimension (so pay close attention). not for the light hearted, this remix a a powerful calling to festival and main room dance floors of the summer, direct, unabashed and loads of fun ahmet is clearly a man with a lot to say and delivers a powerful modern take on dumb units renown sound.

its been a while, but the minimo imprint is finally back on track. and with a killer release that is!! ultra funky minimal techno music that will appeal to a very wide audience. well worth the waiting for this release!! big tunes..

support from : d.diggler, someone else, joseph capriati, martin eyerer!!! it s summer of 2009, at least once in a while, in germany. with silent heroes, martin woerner delivers an absolute adequate sound for warm and sweaty outdoor partys. but just as well, the sound is suitable for wonderfull dumpish afterhour sunrises. the track yelp isn t that dreamy, but doesn t rise less emotions and it ll defenitely also find his supporters! fact is: even if one can still recognize the typical sound of martin woerner, this release sounds different in some way. in addition, it foreshadows different stylistic facings of him and more of these can be expected hereafter. due to those circumstances, a new sublabel named inclusion records limited has been created in cooperation with the distributor (dbh-music). make sure that you keep informed for the future!

just in case someone might have forgotten: stil vor talent is based in berlin. and this ep by sascha braemer, one part of heinrich & hirtenfellner, proves just that. braemer, whos just been at the top of everybodys dj charts with his funk-laden minimal soul piece >mamba drums< on kindisch records, has donated three tracks to oliver koletzkis imprint that mirror what this city is best know for: funky minimal grooves. first up there is >ghost track< a typical dry minimal loop with a rhythmically in touch vocal sample that is then juxtaposed by a simply astonishing piece of melody. goose bumps and groove humps on the floor - guaranteed! on the flip: >girl<. here braemer has created a dubby piece of tech house that floats towards a soulful vocal and some beautiful strings. this is one for the early morning, or in berlin, the late afternoon, those times when everything seems in perfect harmony with each other. last up is >guitar man<, yet another very sample-based stripped down loop with one riff of an echoed guitar being the protagonist. when that riff is fully played out, we all know its summer. but it wouldnt be berlin if there werent some dark wobbly basslines seemingly destroying this but in fact creating the perfect combination of soft and hard, of light and dark. on top of this the vocal sample >i wont leave< perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the praised berlin afterhour. stil vor talent is back at home with this ep.

xerrox vol. 2 undertakes an intense journey and affords the luxury to take its time. &#8233,,while xerrox vol. 1 (r-n 78) referred to the old world with its tradition deeply rooted in classical music, xerrox vol. 2 tries to access a new world . it works with samples that have been gathered and developed in the usa û the so-called new world û where the album also has almost completely been recorded.&#8233,,the dramatic and dynamic approach of xerrox vol. 1 on vol. 2 has been replaced by a structural density. instead of working with individual musical entities the new album rather develops an overall, linear aesthetic that refers to musical strategies of film music. hence there are no implicitly singular pieces, but open musical structures û a journey without a predetermined target.

this is the one you ve all been waiting for, the bad science ep from the mighty rustie. amazingly enough for an artist who has such an huge impact over the last year this is only his second full ep. i could go for on days about how good it is but best not eh. it all kicks off with the fractured hip-hop weirdness of tar and then swiftly moves into the massive bad science. we ve been seeing folk go crazy to bad science and rightly so, its an anthem and has getting properly hammered by kode9 and mark pritchard to name a few. its then on to the out there 8 bit bleepage of shadow enter. the b-side is now dedicated to the now legendary zig-zag and wireblock have really done themselves pround with this one by going straight to one of rustie s hero s the legendary henrich mueller (dopperleffekt, drexciya, arpanet etc) to add his own electro-physics sound to the aquatic mentalness of the original track. it comes to an end with zig zag (reprise), now the original was daft enough but this just to pushes it even further into new realms of madness. buy, buy, buy!

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from tropic of cancer. two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of angelo badalamenti in >twin peaks< mode, or maybe reservoir dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. as badalamenti himself said of his own work, >my (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. i think of it as tragically beautiful. that is how i would describe what i love best: tragically beautiful.< seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...
