james freud is not the deceased singer of the australian new wave band the models. james freud is not a young art-school dropout with an affinity for electronic music. james freud does not live in berlin - he seems to come out of the blue and it is hard to say whether his production is analogue or digital, whether it is sampled material or sound design. because of the strange maturity of his work the tracks seem to come from both the past and the future. thanks to the digging-qualities of dj good news (who runs the hamburg poem-label) a selection of james freuds oeuvre is now brought to light through the 12inch 5-track extended play - to cut a long story short: mental futurism is wise optimism.

fvonk is ready to start on an adventure full of housey tunes and positive vibes. for record number 001 drei farben house from berlin lives up to the labels name and delivers three highly funky tracks which draw their inspiration from warm and melodic soul and disco music from back in the days. 70s inspired vocals and bass guitars dominate these pieces and are combined with fluently rolling drums, altogether carrying drei farben house s characteristic thumbprint. the artwork of the record has been concieved by till sperrle who is also known for his graphic design for dial and tenderpark. mastering and lacqeur cut have been realised by stefan betke at scape mastering.

as 2014 comes to an end, the london based duo is closing the year with yet another split ep. on the a-side we have vimmes, a low-slung groove with percussive textures that expand gradually and steadily, evolving along shadowy soundscapes and intricate rhythms. its a fine example of holdie gawns personal style, stripped back grooves moving along melodic tones and sound design. micawber on the other side offers a shuffled up house track under the name de jure. syncopated synth lines, lush pads and melodic textures make this an warm, lush early morning electronic affair.

returning to cadenza records after two previous singles (the motorglider ep and precursors ep), eduardo de la calle drops the methodical machines ep this december on lucianos imprint. across two pieces of vinyl, and five tracks, eduardo flexes his unique sound design of minimal and soulful grooves.

longtime raíz collaborator subversive makes his debut on droid sister label vrv with chainbreaker. subversive has appeared previously on historia y violencia and contruct re-form (under the name deception plan with voiski). this release for vrv is a collection of 3 tracks that reflect his focused, methodical programming. the title track stretches a deep, driving narrative over the course of 7 minutes, perfect for adding hypnotic breathing room to any set. the other side contains intergalactic, a subtle and harmonic passage that sets the stage for a2, telemore. telomere begins with intense, brooding synth design that inevitably builds into heavy rhythm structures, providing the sets most driving dance sounds.

taking the well-formed and increasingly respected catch recordings to its third release is the broken labour ep from bob barker, complete with remixes from berlins ryan davis and greenville massive. with a background in contemporary art and design bob barker looks to create dance floor sounds that transcend the listener like a viewer in a gallery.

mnenosyne was the personification of memory, daughter of gaia and uranus, wife of zeus and the mother of the muses, goddesses of the arts. also this time an excellent collaboration with an artist for whom i have great esteem tony scott aka edit select. because of the magic of art that unites the whole world, i have had the pleasure of getting to know him personally during an amazing gig in paris in which we began to design a collaboration on some tracks. after our first collaboration survivors of the pulse released on edit selects prologue music lp phlox we decided to continue with another ep of three sick tracks that i have given the names of three muses according to my personal imagination.terpsichore - to the he goddess of dance id offer this track with its controversial rhythm and detailed sensual overtones.euterpe - goddess of music and in our case seen in terms of techno music, a mix of pure energy and imagination and this track i believe has these two features. deep, straight and hypnotic. urania - this track i would like to dedicate to the goddess of astronomy

killekill is proud to present eomac’s “spectre”, the debut album from dublin-based producer ian mcdon- nell, a rising star in the techno scene. spectre also marks the label’s first full-length album release. ian is better-known as half of the irish duo lakker and this album is certainly carved from the same cold slab of stone. his music has already gained huge support from the likes of tommy four seven, ellen allien, thom yorke and the one and only aphex twin himself. bleepy, slo-mo synth lines, dense textures, saturated bassdrums and hand-sliced vocals dunked in cavern- ous reverb – spectre is all about eomac doing what he does best, taking our concepts of club sound and contorting them into something that is truly his own. the melodies are slo-mo and lo-fi, the pads, exquisitely lush and textured. ian’s amazing sound-design (bordering on the intense in some places) and incredible attention to detail makes this an album where each listen reveals a deeper layer. spatters of noise, shards of broken beat and relentlessly pounding techno rhythms also make it a dancefloor-decimating weapon.
