lp reissues cut from the long-awaited 2010 digital remasters for the first time on vinyl and cd, original release from 1980. reissues of a legendary artist, pioneer of the french electronic music. the french proto-electro is making a come-back as we’ve seen it with the success of both cosmic machine compilations. their 7” “onyx” sold over 3 million copies worldwide. space art is behind the massive hits: “onyx”, “give me love”, “love in c minor” and more. one of half of the band, dominique perrier, is one of legend jean-michel jarre’s closest collaborators. recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all jarre’s albums from “rendez-vous” (1986)to “oxygène 7-1” (1997) and still tours with him around the world. space art also toured with him in china in the early ’80s. alongside jean-michel jarre and cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

after a few years spent in quiet reflection during his introduction to the wonders of fatherhood, in relationen emerges as both a refined and mature comeback, as well as a distinct new beginning for the long-time berlin producer. the pensive character, delicate emotional undertones, and careful lines drawn with precise tension across restrained arrangements may sound familiar to fans of his earlier work, but there is now a greater sense of calm, an openness that rewards listeners both on and off the dance-floor. as contemplative as it may be, in relationen still rocks, particularly on the title track, where a frontal psychedelic guitar line gently weeps across a haunting, hypnotic field of rhythm. the krautrock influence runs deep, not in a superficial way but in the depths of the music: atop the rolling, pastoral grooves, the vibe of a bright german mind reorganizing itself to a new framework, re-aligning to a fresh phase of life, finding deeper communion with the world through the discovered balance of inner peace

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.

veil of light is the synth/postpunk solo project of a mystery man from zurich known to the wider world only as m. the project was born in 2012 when all the tracks for the veil of light eponymous 2013 ep released on belaten were recorded by m in a bunker near zurich. that last fact incidentally is a good way to describe the music released under this project’s name much like the mental image of a bunker it is cold dark and forces one into a contemplative resigned state. the influences that immediately come to mind listening to veil of light are 1980’s wave music post punk industrial and dark ambient all weaved together by an overarching depressive yet dreamy atmosphere. it has been called gothgaze and the description seems apt. the followup to the opener the 7” cold skin single released on edition gris and the debut lp simply titled as well as this years head/blood/chest ep continue in the same vein.
