japonaiserie was the term the dutch post-impressionist painter vincent van gogh used to express the influence of japanese art. artists including manet, degas and monet, followed by van gogh, began to collect the cheap colour wood-block prints called ukiyo-e prints a mini lp by benoit b, the boss of banlieue records, on which he creates a futuristic environment influenced by the japanese electronics of the 80s. a musical japanaiserie that can melt your cold cold heart.

i discovered benoit b through his own label - banlieue records. he’s part of a new breed of young french producers who make music without any hang-ups and that are inspired by the entire history of house and techno and everything in-between. i liked the combination of club beats with a deep, super melodic approach. the 6 tracks featured here almost make up an entire album that reflects benoit’s skills and sense of production. everything is here -from ambient experiments to heavyweight club tracks and beyond. here, bear witness to the new sound of france (even though he lives in berlin!)

banlieue records starts the year 2017 with the release of blasphema eternal, the imprints sixth record, which will in fact be the only va release of the year as the label will focus on artist eps. it features five very different cuts that somehow fit perfectly together under banlieues common thread: a timeless feel, tracks that are full of detail but often understated, a breath of fresh air ready to lift up bodies and minds on the dance floor and anywhere else. first comes a club-ready dubbed out track by duo nummer, then a rather ambient tune reminiscent of idms finest moments by michigans own dmarc cantu. on the flipside, a machine funk track of an electro persuasion by label boss benoit b, followed by uptempo dance floor abstraction by mir and some lo-fi jackbeat deepness courtesy of wulffius featuring lyrics in french by jack tezam. limited to 300 vinyl copies.
