‘fallen down is the second ep from tee mango and will sauls primitive trust project, featuring a remix by shanti celeste. the title track weaves percussive shuffles and vocal refrains with glowing synths, whilst colourful melodic layers and resonating vocal stabs armour the choppy live drums of ‘day one. dekmantel regular shanti celeste does what she does best with her remix of fallen down in building a rich, hypnotic groove that steadily develops with intricacy and depth, whilst ‘big tracky disco tool is exactly that.

the make mistakes gang returns with their second record in the form of remixes of roy england s techno rocker, photon. what you get here is a package of dance floor cuts showcasing the varied styles, and tastes of the crew, making this a versatile record that s gonna find a way to fit in where ever it s needed. on the a side we have a taste of attentat s signature sound: hypnotic, driving minimal techno. a slowly evolving meditation, this stripped down, pulsing jam will ignite the late night dance floor. an irrepressible tinkerer, roy england took the original, funked it up, worked it out, and streamlined it for peak time. in his remix, roy crafted a consummate party jam, steady, pumping, and full of life. with his remix, time for trees takes you on a psychedelic, housey frolic through the woods. what we have here is a slow building, mind-bending groove, wrapped up in cascading waterfalls of sound. the make mistakes label has built a diverse sound around a cohesive aesthetic. with the photon remixes, they continue that tradition, with style and depth, fine-tuned for dance floor lovers.

as bpmf started making techno again, he surveyed his techno friends asking them what it was about his music they found the most annoying. the answers? tr-606 hi-hats and portamento. he proceeded to focus on these aspects of his music and today the results are here: -abide the glide volume 4- wherein bpmf is pushing all the right buttons to get the dj thinking about the sounds their pumpin. jamie morris provides an excellent dj freindly remix of -even straighter-, taking bpmf s idea and going even straighter.

in 1988, on the eve of a two decade civil war, somalia s authoritarian ruler siad barre launched punishing air strikes on the north of the country, known today as somaliland, in response to agitations for independence. the bombing leveled the entire city. barre targeted radio hargeisa to prevent any kind of central communication system that could organize a resistance. with the attack imminent, a few brave radio operators and dedicated vanguards of somali culture knew the archives, containing over half a century of somali music had to be preserved. thousands upon thousands of cassette tapes and master reels were quickly removed from the soon-to-be targeted buildings. they were dispersed to neighboring countries like djibouti and ethiopia, and buried deep under the ground to withstand even the most powerful airstrikes.

side b features mirage a desert sound collage glued to a steady pulse that rolls and rolls, circumventing any destination. mirage is a contour map of no surprising peaks just undulating valleys of wistful cathodic sound creeks, sometimes veering off to plains in full view of the moon, in earshot of solitary wolf cries. like tuesday paris texas, mirage is testament of superpitcher’s versatile prospecting beyond the elemental sound tools of the electronic music trade.

for its very first vinyl release after 2 years of activity in the digital realm, experimental ambient label arythmic records from strasbourg (france) did a rather bold choice by putting its hopes into a local techno artist well known for its open-mindedness and creativity: letherique. after over a year of various experiments, the best ideas were selected and compiled into a series of 3 eps, each one dedicated to a particular vibe. the first part is about the more synthetic and futuristic outcome. the second one will be rather dark and organic. finally, the third and last one will be about the more experimental and minimalistic remainder. taking from many influences way beyond the world of casual techno music, letherique ended up crafting unexpected techno tunes, usually starting with an ambient base on which he couldnÕt help himself adding beats in order to develop what he knew best. after years of activity in the dark, he needed something a little bit special to put into what he could proudly call his first ep as a testament of his passion for the infinite realms of the electronic music genre. these were the perfect fit.

played by marcel vogel / it s been a while since we heard any new material from rick poppa howard, the father of prodigious house talent tevo howard. the soul and raw, off-kilter production style runs in the family, and -keep holdin on- demonstrates this perfectly with its immediate warmth and unfussy arrangement. -gimme that love- is the real gem on this record though, toying with a rubbery bassline and a touch more atmospheric detail that makes howards voice shine. that said, if you do require an instrumental version for any reason, the alternative cut stands proud on its own. for our money though, we d say howard s vocals are what makes this record special.

after the reception of “battle anybody” from luminaries like dj premier (#19 on his best of 2013 picks), dj evil dee, dj eclipse and more, dawhud and ace-one started working on a proper follow up to their emceeing anthem. one track turned into an ep which then quickly turned into a full length project. the project... d&g (david & goliath) - “the scepter & the sword” the concept for the group simply came from dawhud’s name (david in arabic) and ace-one, who was in the midst of fnishing up his “rapmonster” series. those two elements and the sheer chest pounding vibe of their prior track led to the creation of “david & goliath”. epic, biblical, and loaded with imagery that paints what the duo are trying to convey in just a name. produced entirely by dawhud, the duo trade verses over his landscapes to join forces and reign together. from the opening battle cry of “something’s coming” to the closing of their p-p-p-p-p-premier approved track, “the scepter & the sword” is a rap odyssey. assisting the duo on this legendary journey are emcees like masta ace, rock (from heltah skeltah), sadat x, kokane and pacewon alongside longtime friends/emcees joe harvey, jo and otomatik. with a title like “david & goliath”… legends should be involved. something’s coming…

from poland to the uk via the usa, jeals delivers a full journeyman debut ep for lobster theremin spanning ambient, racheting break-y house, lucid techno and heartbreaking electro. five slices of thought-provoking electronic music, rich with emotion and sincerity, each one a crucial momentum in time, sonically cemented once and for all.

sprouting arms and legs to emerge from his wetlands lair, mysterious scaled amphibian bufobufo leaps onto land to launch new vinyl label ritual poison.
the a side is taken up by the house sounds of “what’s that noise?”, a stripped back acid bit ready built for blowing up the floor. on the flip, there’s “parasol” - agaric electro served raw and deadly and “spider fortress”, eight-legged techno spun smooth like silk and tough as steel.

the artists featured on this release were carefully chosen in order to create an eclectic sonic journey.
on the a side, two tracks from playful death, a producer whose sounds are influenced by comics such as biomega and the invisibles.
the first track on the b side is from yxan, which is micheal idehall’s techno alias. michael is a multi-talented artist who leads a publishing house called belzebez that also features many of his own artworks and has had releases on prominent labels such as ant-zen.
next up is necropants a producer who enjoys roaming around graveyards and and seeking out ancient burial mounds. the last track on the b side was created by bellatrix?, an up and coming producer from verona, italy who has recently released an excellent ep on the veleno viola imprint. bellatrix? also heads a tape label called culto verona.
all of the artists selected for this v/a embody what nightshade represents, the devil is in the detail.

double sided crossover magic (i have been slacking on crossover records). douglas and lonero had a few releases, an lp a couple of 45s on columbia but there stand out (and rarest) 45 is this fantastic crossover 45 this time . what makes this interesting is that most copies of the original are demo copies which only have the track don t let yourself get carried away on it and cost around £50. the rare issue copy which is pretty impossible goes for £500+. not only does our new pressing include both tracks but we have gone back to the original master tapes and done a spanking 24bit transfer and a cut that sounds considerably better than the original 45, so now you can upgrade your o.g.

since they first appeared on the manchester scene around two years ago, the suzuki method have accomplished the rather unlikely feat of marrying the polar worlds of hard rock and eighties hard dance. like manchester peers the whip and delphic, they are a pop band who bring a wonderfully futurist imperative to the manc music table.

ltd new years deal - 50 % deal - in 1999, serotonin records released their final output, which happened to be the very first official release by fischerspooner, before they moved on to great international acclaim. serotonin was their introduction into the dance music world. one might think that the label would have grown only larger and more successful from this particular high point in its history - but life is uncertain and circumstances unforeseeable. label founders john selway and jason szostek became drawn away in different directions and the label ceased. recently however, they began to discuss bringing back the imprint, re-releasing or remixing old material, digging up their own unreleased productions and producing new material bridging the gap between their early styles and what they create individually now. they also began to look around for new artists that complimented the amorphous serotonin sound

tutti hill’s ‘when the going gets rough’ was listed on the label of her arock single in 1964 but the record actually played ‘whoa whoa, baby take it slow’. at last this gorgeous mid-tempo dancer from ron miller and lee porter makes it to 45. the flip is a piano and voice demo from the same stable but garrett saunders’ magnificent baritone makes the song a must-have. what a pity he did not record more.

back in 1955 an unidentified flying object was spotted by a couple of farm workers nearby llangollen s castel dinas bran (crow castle). a young man named dewi llandlenip had taken some astonishing photographs of what appears to be a ufo hovering above the ancient medieval site. he was sure, this was the presence of the time travellers. crow castle has always had a mysterious presence, but this took them by surprise, a kind of close encouter type iii. shortly after this bizarre moment they were all left stunned and knocked to the ground, the object had gone without trace and their memory obscured into a so called abduction reset.

having already blessed the airwaves with their masked boiler room performance, and with releases and features seen on yume, huntley’s & palmers, permanent vacation and antho- ny napel’s probito, the promising talents of edinburgh duo hi & saberha&#776,gen continue on lo with ‘acid finger’. the five track ep showcases exactly what the pair are known for, exploring the balance of the subtle and direct natures of dance music. there is something extremely unique about their productions that breathes new life into an arguably stat- ic climate. ‘acid finger’ travels from highs to lows at a consistent and co- herent pace, starting with the sparkling, disco tinged ‘force&#769, boi&#770,te’. euphoric heights are executed through light flourish- ing synth lines, drum patters and chord stabs. ‘woodrum’ maintains the pace but switches the tone with jungle rhythms and a pounding bass. ominous belter ‘git’ with its driving kick, looped vocal sample and rolling bass. the track develops into a hopeful finish with the introduction of glittering synth movements. title track ‘acid finger’ delivers beautifully delicate percus- sive and melodic work that progressively shapes up against fleeting shrill synth lines that come to a fitting crescendo. ending the release is the melancholic atmospheres created in ‘redacted’, bringing a shift in mood and imitating a trudge through memory lane. expect to see and hear a lot more from these guys in the future..

as noted on another release (see ropin), cornell campbell has enjoyed one of the longest-running careers of any jamaican singer, and he is blessed with a readily identifiable style too. he began his career for clement ‘sir coxsone’ dodd in 1956, when rhythm and blues held sway in jamaica, and later cut some ska songs for king edwards. he then passed through the sensations in the rock steady phase and worked as a solo singer at treasure isle, before returning to studio one with the eternals, scoring huge hits such as ‘stars’ and ‘queen of the minstrel’ as the 60s gave way to the 70s. his greatest phase of popularity was them brokered by hit-making producer bunny lee, who kept him on top right through the 1970s and into the 80s. the 1975 album dance in a greenwich farm was first issued on the grounation label in the uk. along with a re-working of ‘stars’ re-titled ‘the sun,’ a re-working of ‘queen of the minstrel’ as ‘girl of my dreams’ and the sound system opus that is the title track, the album has the boastful ‘conquering gorgon’ and a number of keenly-observed cover tunes, including a cut of the gaylads’ ‘no good girl,’ a version of the heptones’ ‘why did you leave me’ and a killer cut of the uniques’ ‘watch this sound’ (based on ‘for what it’s worth’ by buffalo springfield).

quazarz came to the earth from somewhere else, a musical ambassador from his place to ours. somehow, through fire or through fury, the palaceer of shabazz palaces caught wind of the tale, and it is through his prism that we hear the story. the beach was there, and atlaantiis, and chemical alterations and cell memories and andre norton, richard k. morgan, and always octavia butler. there were killings and there were votes, and brutality in both. there was sound and there were other worlds, and there was a vastness so participation sometimes came only at the edges. and the palaceer coasted down with the alien notion, like quazarz, and so became. on quazarz when they look at this place they see the inhabitants, the humans, but they don’t assess as we do. and so quazarz was sent to meet a cat with vibration, a creative and courageous, caring, compassionate dude that stood out. the dude was a drug dealer, but that was neither here nor there, until his dealings squashed the rendezvous, leaving our alien alone to figure out what this place is really all about. the vinyl release includes a download code.

…speaking of air and darkness, “born on a gangster star” came into the world in a big damn hurry, like nightfall on an island. you can see it happening, but then again it’s so gradual that the next thing you know - it’s dark.
imbued with the energy and ideas from all the creative embers floating in the atmosphere like fireflies, shabazz palaces recorded this entire album over the course of two weeks with blood in seattle. new gear and new equipment disintegrated comfort zones into dust and a new path appeared in the rubble.
herein the palaceer continues the tale of quazars, a sentient being from somewhere else, an observer sent here to amurderca to chronicle and explore as a musical emissary. what he finds in our world is a cutthroat place, a landscape where someone like him could never quite feel comfortable amidst all the brutality and alternative facts and death masquerading as connectivity.
