it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent... house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 1 you ll find a dark bassline driven house jam from art of tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from nyc s dj spinna, a blaze homage with that classic new jersey sound from sean mccabe, and a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta brescia from wonder kid corrado bucci. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style!

alien jams presents planet bangs, the 4th album from nochexxx, following on from 2015s dirt-driven apocalyptic electro jaunt plot defender (type recordings). this six track lp plants another stick in the mud, showcasing the producers love for oddball tape-saturated electronic delirium. planet bangs is clearly an ecosystem in distress..., metawitch s clanging rocks paves the way for creepy unsettling yelps and 303 squelch - an acid drenched broomstick joyride over mounds of rolling subs and hilly sines-waves - on stickshift, straight-jacketed conga loops barely spit enough voltage to hold pace, like a sputtering raymond scott machine in respiratory collapse. wafting familiar smoke signals originally lit by 90s era warp and detroit techno, overhound springs out the trap with a booty bounce towards the finish line. artwork by zeke clough. 180g vinyl, mastered by rupert clervaux.

private persons returns with the second release from the ukraine-based producer youngg p. the entire ep was produced during the 2014 amidst mass turmoil in kiev. the result is a deep, dark and emotionally driven 12” that further cements this label and one to watch in 2017.

klamauk is back and ready to drop their first release of 2017 with this excellent cut from moony me. the austrian artist has already turned heads with a string of quality records dropping since 2012 and this current release is up to his usual high standards channelling deep, sample driven house vibes. the ep opens with “city of storms”, a knowing nod to soulful chicago and a lovely iron curtis rework that seriously does the business. over on the flip we have “puzzle shuffle” which packs lots of energy with the main hook, and will surely be a hit on the dancefloor. for “glass jungle chant” moony me uses a lighter touch with intricate live percussion, lovely chords and a squelchy sub bass.

a fantastic obscure record, whose tracks simply anticipate techno and generally electronic music of the early 70s, including kraftwerk’s milestone “autobahn”. the set provides some blending funk tunes driven by experimental electronic music, all with a heavy dramatic feel: the result is an unbelievable, unique and explosive library music lp, a collection of several tv synchronization themes. what we had is stunning drama cop scores and dark electronic moods, all surrounded by loads of fuzzy vibes and all that weird, industrial, futuristic synth fx and so on...

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

bitten is amsterdam s hot techno imprint with 2000 and one and sandy huner at the forefront. for this release we welcome back raul mezcolanza and khat. this time the duo deliver two warm and groovy techno tracks inspired by the sound of detroit, synths, vocals and a dancefloor driven grooves are the key ingredients for this release.

alma negra is a swizz collective that consists of four musically driven friends, the figuiera brothers dersu & diego who s roots are established firmly in their cape verdian heritage, dario with his half and half portuguese/italian mix and finally mario with spanish roots. they are all passionate diggers who love playing music from all over the world, something that s evident in their productions as well. encompassing jazz, african and latin sounds to soul, funk, disco, house and even techno. as far as inspiration goes they mention donald byrd ,fela kuti and theo parrish. their creative output has let them to release on such fine labels as sofrito, highlife and most recently basic fingers. fans of alma negra include gilles peterson, ben ufo, axel boman, dam swindle, africaine 808 and tim sweeney. digger s workout part 2 continues where part 1 left us, proving once again alma negra are on a roll. included is a killer remix from osunlade and his yoruba soul mix of safari is deepness on a new level.

* roots pt. iii* is the third installment in petter b s series of homages to his roots of techno. this time with trippy pads gliding across creating a soundscape. on the b-side you find a new drummer track, also a name which has become synonymous with bond. this straight and no-bull-shit-groove continues the names proud tradition. as the inner track on the b-side there is a vocal driven track with spaced out sounds flying by. all accompanied by a heavy drum and slowly evolving hi-hats.

eshu records hits release number ten with a new ep from the in-house production collective made up of jocelyn abell, ivano tetelepta and daniel lekatompessy. fraktur features six tracks of stripped back house and techno that are all atmospheric and heady. opener winter track is a smooth and rolling dub techno number that is grainy and economical yet hugely absorbing thanks to its circling synth details and woody drums. creating moods is even more expansive and spacious, with gently swirling pads enveloping a soft, broken rubber kick drum. the title track is another expertly distilled, dry and heady groove with its frayed edges and warm analogue feel, then hello really flips the script with over driven jeff mills kicks and intergalactic synths bring a spooky sci-fi feel to proceedings. yorubaland is then a cosmic ambient interlude with fax tones bleeping and blipping as lazy pads smear out in the background and last of all core comes on strong with more quick and slick intergalactic techno carrying you off to some distant planet. this is another faultless ep from this fine dutch collective. pressed on 180 grams vinyl.

future sessions is proud to bring you a release from the owner and operator of finale sessions and one half member of the legendary balance recordings imprint with the legendary chez damier . so we will start you with the first track which is a remix of the classic track chez damier – never knew love with michael zuckers take on the track which gives it a real dancefloor driven sound with its funky guitar streams filled with filtered synth’s and perfect drum programming and then we get to the second track “wisdom and knowledge feat. maya angelou filled with her masterful poetry and michael zuckers pads and deeeeep bass and perfect drums gives it what it needs to flow streamingly then last but not least we have “jacobs ladder” with is smooths pads and it’s mesmorizing and hypnotic keys but the drums are the key to this track ..we want to thank you at future sessions for giving us the oppurtunity to do what we do and we thank you for the support.

owen offset s - inhale strikes for aa012 with a massive remix bundle. after the thriving - platen ep , the maltese dj &, producer will get back to what he can do at his best - breathtaking techno. so the original is an exciting masterpiece, driven on a low-beasty rotating bassline. a looming and menacing synth enters the track, followed by a female moan full of relish - or is it just an inhale decide yourself.

times are ruff is here with the 11th edition of its imprint, showcasing some of the styles the label stands for, percussive, jazzy, hypnotic and rhythmic house-music. tar011 is a dance floor oriented 4-tracker by alex fields and pete bandit. the guys behind the collaborative times are ruff project & label (which they do together with resistance orchestra) bring you this time two solo tracks each. 

alex fields brings two tracks to the table which both are based on a jazzy foundation without becoming lazy. fields pushes his drums and patterns to overdrive to uplift every dancefloor, while keeping the melody side musically interesting with jazzy solos. bandit keeps it more rhythmic and straight-forward on his side, with a percussive driven beat-track and a small wink to earlier more hypnotic tar releases with his track ruff street.

disco inflections and happiness-driven chanting begins this release. off-placed rhythms call one to move. listening and dancing, is what needed. such need is further pursued in a2. listen. move. ‘which of the waltzes’ explores layering of sounds and is driven by shama joseph’s spontaneous vocal improvisation. while the rhythm swings, the vocals and piano maintain the warm harmonies. the final track is a broken rhythm expulsion. snippets of vocals and deeply resonating piano hints to what ‘which of the waltzes’ could have sounded if further experimentation in sonic reductionism would have taken place.

nancy azzurro comes out of nowhere. well, that’s not entirely true—lovefingers met her about 10 years ago on the beach near her home on the island of sardinia—but in terms of our musical orbit, she is a very private artist, creating only the purest music, straight from the heart. these three gorgeous songs were produced during her young adulthood and would become secret weapons for a handful of djs she’d meet over the following years. still standing the test of time today, they’re now finally seeing a proper release. side-a’s grace invites us into nancy’s world where disco and house collide—the live drums, percussion and bassline hold down a blanket of synth strings and wah-wahs. halfway through this epic enters a piano hook of the highest order, an emotional rush that brings together everything we love on the dancefloor, guaranteed to induce goosebumps. on side-b, she rounds out the release with the dreamlike, percussive and yugo-tinged illustrations & the large, and closes with the title track teen bee, a loopy cowbell-driven dive into the deep, filled with luscious sweeping chords and meandering keys. the esp institute is honoured to close out 2016 (one seriously heavy year) with such a beautiful and cohesive release. thank you and goodnight.

long awaited repress of this amazing masterpiece as very limited white vinyl edition. what happens when scales and patterns of contradicting emotional imprints combine? when light and darkness, bitter and sweet, frost and blaze collide? those are the questions that johannes heil chooses to address on his upcoming album, opening up a vast grey-scaled area for the listener to traverse with techno as a blindfold. ‘black light’ sees the german techno mainstay return to the album format for an intimate ten track odyssey of close-curtained introspection. heil chooses the words of fellow futurist nikola tesla to set the stage of the black light story >black is the true face of light, only we do not see this<. track names are dropped in favor of a chronology of scenes, better adapted to the seemingly polar opposition of the forces that the figure and cocoon regular conjures throughout the album. everything that we perceive is processed and set into relation with past memories, digested emotions and iron-branded impressions. battling the current, johannes heil chooses to challenge certitudes by forcing us out of our comfort zones into the absence of light. if the pictures painted on >black light< are dark, they are also far from monochromatic. the machine-driven sonic prism acts both as the heavy cloud and the burst of light that shoots through to guide us. its the aggressor and the victim, the clenched teeth and the jubilant, the paranoia and the sanity of the mind. its pure heads-down driving techno with volumes of grandiose. provoking our senses, extending his art onto our personal canvases, the exile boss gives the listener the freedom to interpret the emotional context of each piece, to write the scripts of the individual scenes. the impression that >black light< leaves upon first listen testifies that 20 years down the road, johannes heil shows no sign of slowing down.

on local talk s 74th release it s about time to get real...and we re not only talking about the music! this a heavy and political record that through music expresses the constant struggle for many african americans living in the us today. or like jamie 3:26 said after he first heard sameed s initial version - it instantly hit me with the raw pain and emotion of the lyrics. there is so much struggle in the world today, many black men and women are in emotional, mental and spiritual battles. the message is delivered over two tracks, testify and can t u . both tracks are using the same themes and samples but with a distinct difference on the end result. on the a side we find chicago legend jamie 3:26 teaming up with amsterdam s new shining star masalo (brighter days crew) for a gospel inspired disco / house jam that comes with a slight warehouse feel and a thumping bassline that is 100% on point on the flip sameed is back on local talk with can t u . a track that uses the same foundation as testify but instead goes straight for that dirty disco knock out punch...heavy stuff! as an extra bonus we also included dusty jazz , a fender rhodes driven jazz-house cut from sameed that sounds like it comes straight from a dark juke joint in manchester.
