following on from their hard hitting previous release quarantine , east london s phil passera & chieka ononye deliver their 4th release as payfone on new york s golf channel recordings. a side catholic central emerges from a dark street corner to bloom into a moody synth and bass heavy rhythm, before colliding with a disco riff that could have easily been borrowed from the master tapes of late 1970 s atlanta outfit brick. featuring the vocal style of argentinian pia gonzalez antar, who in confession recalls the dark dynamic of a relationship with a previous lover many years her senior. the room shaking b side comes courtesy of d marc cantu s haze mix that delivers a pounding late night electronic soul voyage. cantu has been releasing genre defying records since the late 2000 s, and performs as one third of jakbeat super group x2 alongside traxx & jtc.  golf channel every time !

nous klaer welcomes cosime, a collaborative project between longtime companions arif and job. their debut ep consists of three tracks, including an outstanding version of the a1. most of the record was recorded and arranged on several autumn days, home away from home, facing a freshwater lake. field recordings, made on a former island that is now a peninsula, provide the basis of the hilary ep. on the b side the recordings lay over solid drum programming, centred on the offbeat hat. on the a side fyr offers a more fluid take, resulting in a splendid play of samples and rhythms sewn together. the alternative take of fyr takes on an anything-goes approach, highly club appropriate though moving away from the rhythm backbone. excellent music for pedaloes.

lp document of the first collaboration between oren ambarchi, kassel jaeger (of editions mego) and james rushford (who s projects include manhunter and food court on the kye label, and ora clementi on penultimate press). two side-long pieces recorded at grm studios, paris in 2014, comprising of distinct layers that gently rise up and recede, pale calling obeys a dream-logic that feels entirely disconnected from traditional electro-acoustic composition, forming surreal sonic images in which half-remembered fragments of everyday life mix with the quiet intensity of dreams haunted by natural forces.

for the 5th installment in the prrukwht series, spanish hardware icon eduardo de la calle returns to planet rhythm with his adept to the light ep. tr3b conspiracy serves as the opener which combines odd rhythmic arps and subtly placed drum sequences to make a somewhat uncanny atmosphere. on the b side we find ranchor will cut the mood which is a repetitive techno cut that should be useful for after hours. the doubt of the unknown (b2) has a somewhat foreboding title. it’s a fx heavy synth jam that uses oddball synthesis and nicely placed fx chains that evolve throughout.

manchester s rainy city music continues to celebrate 20 years of the record label in 2016 and continue the success of the last two vinyl releases by dele sosimi afrobeat orchestra, via their own label and also with berlin s innervisions label. the 20 year celebration is also riding high on the current huge success of the re-issue of their second ever release from 1996 by city people it s all in the groove , now available again by the hugely popular artist motor city drum emsemble. this new release by artists irfan rainy & rex leon is a 4 trk ep from their digi lp titled cross step drag, a reference to the house dance culture from new york city. the four tracks released here highlight the huge variety in styles of house music created by the mancunian duo. the a side s track one vodun is simply voodoo / tribal house music for lovers of the old school jovonn sound. track 2 smash the silence is a brand new version of previous digital only release where afrobeat & house music are combined. it features the rasping vocals of lagos based nigerian actress vera e and the definite influence of fela kuti. flip to the b side and get to the deep dark twisted underworld of black america via snoop story (ode to the wire) and you hear one of the moodiest dance records you will ever hear and a tragic story of snoop, one of the wire s best performers from the cult tv series. the final track on the ep manc union dub is a dub house groove where ghostly brazilian candomble vibes meet the electronic dub beats of rhythm and sound. rounding off a hugely varied four track sampler receiving support from a huge cross sections of djs including danny krivit, at jazz, rahaan, kai alce, mad mats, osunlade, karizma, severino (horse meat disco), dj spinna & marcellus pittman.

the last sound carrier was based around the notion of intrepid intergalactic explorers trying to get to earth, this time we’re taken 10.000 leagues below the surface to trawl the deep sea. all the way down there, we experience increased pressure, sub-zero temperatures, darkness and previously undiscovered new worlds. up first we have ‘lactarius indigo mission’, which has a distinct urgency and ‘in-your-face’ bitch slap percussion. the bassline writhes under a variety of squelchy, bleepy effects, which add a layer of depth and the whole thing feels quite electro. after that *from the space to the sea* continues the electro vibes with more punchy beats, a rugged b-line and heavyweight kicks. carriers use of quirky details give this track a unique character and contagious energy.on the other side we are treated to another strange carrier creation, the laidback kepler 22b. named after the first known planet to orbit a sun within what’s known as a habitable zone, kepler 22b could well support life. the track is serene and full of optimism, a fitting soundtrack for a distant earth-like planet. minimal workout * diver level 1000* closes the ep with its unusual arrangement and simple yet deadly programming. another addition to the impressive sound carrier catalogue and perhaps its most leftfield so far

dirty analog techno from french boss, crackboy trevor jackson: brilliant! crackboy (and all his dirty aliases) never disapoints for his second chapter on crowdspacer (after releases on tigersushi, im a cliché, zone or fragil), crackboy, the king of french dirty analog techno, half of pov with label-boss joakim, digs deeper into that detroit melanchol-epic vibe with weapons of steel on the a-side before going bonkers on the b-side with 2 naughty stripped-down beat-centric dj tools for the sweaty late night crowds. made me think of some gemini tracks when i first heard it (thats a compliment).

“room with a view” showcases both sides of stephane 1993’s production aliases, with two tracks from each persona on either side of the record. believe it or not, this is stephane 1993’s first full 12”, but with another release planned on boysnoize following this and a release on dj boneyard’s hound records label as steven be calm, the future s looking bright for the young producer from newcastle in australia.

bryan kessler is not a musician, he is a force of nature. the young talent’s refreshing perspective on electronic club music shows a love for powerful sounds that so many other producers are lacking these days. something that he was already able to proof on releases for get physical (remixed by dj hell), coméme, low hanging fruit and like records. the release starts with you look like trunks, a heavily driving, desert inspired piece that makes clear that kessler grew up in rock music. his second track vegeta charges up with a red-glowing synth lead that eventually explodes in a wave of youngster mayhem. teens are still doing it! the b side is dedicated to ludwig zibell’s remixes of both tracks that continue kessler’s energy with precision and warmth. his b1 remix releases a flock of tarantulas that set the clock to peak time, while b2 adds psychedelic loops to the drive of the original. this is the fourth vinyl release of supermoll from köln. rooted somewhere between a sound of cologne legacy, german experimental kraut attitudes and dirty acid vibes from oversea. 150 hand numbered copies w/ illustration by paula prandini

the playgrounds 8th release comes from japanese artist kez ym. his ability to blend soul-infused house and disco seamlessly is revered by many. four solid tracks with the a-side featuring strong and deep grooves, while the b-side feels warm and dubby. vinyl only release (no digital!).

mister ho and heap are ambassadors of the river danube. this is their first offering for the esp institute. on side a, collision resistance throws us into the bowels of an underground sex lair with an adrenaline-laden heartbeat for a kick drum, a rough dose of fisting illustrated by the combination of bassline with low-tom and an unrelenting snare that whips us raw into submission. somewhere in between the waves of punishment we can start to audibly pick up tortured moans of endurance and pleasure, but maybe its time we pull our minds from the gutter, wipe the sweat from our brow and flip the record for a reward. with side b’s veils of the beloved, mister ho & heap deliver us via speedboat to the white isle, coasting along to bouncy staccato bass notes and machine bleeps as a euphoric chord progression puts us in an 808 state of mind. the percussion arrangement and phasing string flourishes are introduced through a filter, opening slowly as if coming up for air from a beautiful blue abyss. these two songs are neither too salty nor too sweat

imperative is a groovy house track with delayed vocal stabs & a sampled female vocal running though with added with 808 clicks, chords & a snapping snare. the system2 remix of imperative is just as cool with a rolling breaky drum loop giving it a 90s house feel, again the vocal leads the track with the groovy bass & chords built around it. first up on the b side once again is a cool groove with sampled vocals & electronic bleeps echoing through the mix. last but not least the juliche hernandez remix of once again has a more 90s feel to it. fast paced with great percussive hits & a chunky bassline to lead, all in all great release aimed firmly at the dancefloor.

next in line to work with underground imprint getme! is uk artist nicky otter, with gme012: i can t really explain (it), a two track release out on 14th march across vinyl and digital platforms. across the ep, nicky ventures between parameters of ambient electronica and big, bad club tracks. nickys outsider sound find its perfect home on london s getme! label, both artist and label undefinable by genre, shape or sound. a-side i can t really explain (it) is a straight call for the dance floor for those after sounds on a more house and garage tip. originally trained as a drummer, nickys percussive talent shines across this bassy number, complete with creeping melody and layered vocal samples for a track nodding to club edits from a nostalgic time gone by. moving into murkier territories, b-side sketch original slow is journey through the darker strains of electronica, hazy techno feels and euphoric ambient vibes. dreamy melodies and carefully mapped out drum patterns meet here, giving sketch original slow an other-worldly feel.

following the release on the legendary transmat records, deep a & biri are back to their home label with lightsdown. new deep techno work with two versions, reflecting the emotional versus darker side of their production scale.

for the 9th release on concealed we offer you the debut ep from ddalmh, a mysterious copenhagen based artist. daniel lyons (as his real name is) may be known to people on the scene as the owner of the well respected lomidhigh imprints, but his music production have been kept in secret until recently. daniel’s sound is a very deep, unpretentious and dubbed out kind of house music. on the flip side we invited thomas melchior to make a remix, he turns “sun” into a timeless tripped out deep house tune that will hypnotise any dance floor in the early morning hours.

april will see alex danilov, notable dj and producer from yekaterinburg, release his music on arma. published along with reshape by fred p., three original tracks constitute the noises ep — the second release of the label in 2016. being welcomed to diverse clubs throughout russia and europe, alex danilov has all the experience needed to know how dance music works. his own productions are about finding the way to sustain deep mystic atmosphere within signature low-pass rhythm picture. side b, containing both original and remix of unknown numbers, shows how this approach varies from classy style of fred p. aka black jazz consortium. noises ep is the 12th release by arma. the cover features artwork by p.kuznetsov.

ark & pit spector continue their inspired journey with an extended ep full of groovy jams and absorbing rhythms for hold youth. the frenchmen have formed a potent alliance with a series of expertly-crafted, high-quality releases dropping over the last couple of years. on this new ep they go deeper into their sound explorations with five original works and a remix from their parisian buddy and hold youth member, le loup. first up, we go into bumping jazzy territory with ‘chauffage central’, a mesmerising cut with swirling pads, soulful vocal clips and a jaunty b-line. straight up after that, hold youth rudeboy le loup gives ‘chauffage central’ a funky little rework, throwing live sounding percussion, nubian vocal clips, trumpet parps and a pumping bassline into the mix which gives a totally different identity. the final track on side a, is a cheeky teaser called ‘petite ondée’. rolling out for just under two minutes the track has a muffled, jazz-esque feel to it with a warm rolling bassline and bright, sparkling piano keys. on the flip we kick off with ‘air conditionelle’, a lush, retro feeling with those oh-so-familiar heavy-hitting eighties snare licks. the bassline takes you to a new york city street and the whole atmosphere is that of an old school nyc neighbourhood, while a spoken-word sample adds a human touch just before the track comes to an end. ‘sub tropical’ goes a little leftfield with an unusual combination of sounds in tandem with a pulsating low end, occasional sax licks and punchy percussion to give it plenty of energy. ‘averse et contre tous’ closes out the ep with a slothish ride into the sunset – ark and pit spector show their experimental side presenting an odd union between blues samples, gruff electronic sounds and piano keys. another triumphant effort from ark and pit spector, in fact, some of the finest work to date. make sure you check it out!

a side : klaaar when you hear about klaaar, you’d probably assume it has something to do with samples and colourful grooves. on a side, klaaar, that has featured on all the previous label releases, is playing with funky vocal cuts on « contemplative action », and spoken words on « definition is », with heart warming beats on each track. b side : ortellaknown especially for his prim-and- proper take on dirty deep house with releases on rutilance and his own imprint mad in lyon, ortella have been delivering consistently great levels of house, and strikes once again on the b-side with his very special rough and deep sound signature. track titles « shut up and listen to deep house » and « bigmalyon » says it all. shaped for the floor

ashworth concentrates on the essence of solid techno in his first full ep for made of concrete. inspired by the main component of concrete itself, the material is intitled ‘portland’ and consists of no less than four original tracks. “world” makes for a gentle introduction by opening with a soft melodic lead, swiftly changing the tempo after a few measures. we’re quickly immersed in a syncopated bassline peppered with whirring synths that harmonise with full scale piano cuts, the most intriguing earworm on the entire cut. on “launch” the producer lays down hard hitting techno drums from the get-go, setting the foundation for a tense atmosphere. ashworth’s signature move quickly ensues, as he manages to inject emotion through synths and piano pads into an otherwise tense and anxiety-ridden ambiance. toning down the graveness of the previous tracks’ mood, ”mineral” reveals a surrendering groove, with a stripped down, minimalist approach, where the melody is assembled with the help of industrial elements, emotive bleeps and electric glitches. ashworth’s experimental edge is evident in the final track “scatter” - the sub bass lead creates a morose atmosphere paired with low-key synths and mechanical loops. while the first two tracks showcase ashworth’s ability to instill life into solemn techno soundscapes, the second half of the ep successfully exhibits his edgy experimental side, adding up to a heterogenous release.

coumltd001 is the first vinyl edition from coum records label. to start this limited the edition of 300 copies. dead sound & videohead are in charge of bar brawl ep. a side is composed with two powerful offbeat tracks with industrial reminiscenses. the b side is for remixes: the canadian duo orphx is the first one bringing 7 minutes of rude and savage techno. to close the release, the mythy spanish industrial group from the 80s esplendor geometrico, remakes *torn* to a noisy rhythm hypnotic track. the 180 gram vinyl ep contains an exclusive digital download which includes a bonus digital track.

the first release features two original tracks and one remix. back home in itself opens up with emotions and feelings of mysterious dark atmosphere that won t leave you indifferent as a listener or a dj. field of dreams is brimming with various textures that form strange feelings but at the same time delivering a clear message. the remix on side a sounds very precise and sophisticated. the minimalistic groove of the entire track forces your feet to move.

scrape starts with a slow minimalistic acid bomb tones aimed to burn the dancefloor. side b continues with meltdown, a dub track where the chords slowly progress to their peaks, underlined by a heavy kickdrum. the e.p. finishes with flotation, keeping its core minimalistic concept, full of sub bass and high treble, reminiscing of early hood or mills.

high mobility weapons unit continues its exploration, entering an unknown solar system and landing on a desolate mining planet. the counter rockets ep is the second release on the imprint, drawing influences from heavier, lo-fi territories, whilst still maintaining hmwu s characteristic space techno sound. the a-side starts off with the title track, counter rockets , which is a dj tool that combines functional bleeps with machine processed percussion. a2 serves up abandoned interstellar tomb , a fusion of atmospheric deep space bass and jacking drum patterns. on the b-side, deep sea deposit kicks things off with a poly-woven synth line that contorts and shifts throughout the track. finally, excavation site rolls along with its muted melodies and haunting fx, all built above a floor of sub-bass.

good things come to those who wait. the long-anticipated land of light debut, a masterpiece of an album and pillar of the esp institute, was unveiled in late 2012, slowly followed by the gorgeous remixed ii. since then, many have longed for the missing first half of this two-part package, the universe is kind and has finally delivered remixed i. on side a, kuniyuki takahashi (mastering engineer behind seminal esp releases, and legend in his own right) took the bull by the horns remixing flares—a piece of music so entrenched in melancholy, with such fluid performance and production, its hard to imagine anyone taking it deeper—he has unarguably triumphed. on side b, esp institute veterans tambien rose to the same challenge with flares, the bavarians taking a refreshing uptempo approach, a contrast to the swells of guitar and synth. closing the release is the seahawks blissful re-imagination of bell rock outpost, slowly and steadily setting sail into a dusky vision of the scottish lighthouse after which the song was named.
