new album by dj mehdi. born, raised and based in paris, dj mehdi has been producing major french hip-hop artists since 1995 while making great noise (and platinum albums) with his bands ideal j and 113, remixing various electronic acts and composing soundtracks for many french and international films. signed to pedro winters ed banger records, he has released his first full-length lp in 2002 (>the story of espion< virgin), and is about to drop lucky boy around april 2006. new single i am somebody features vocals from canadas finest chromeo and remixes by kenny dope from the mighty masters at work. resident dj at paris legendary pulp club and on radio fg, he now tours all around with busy p and justice.

while the first release on wania, busen & paleos >stream of love< (featuring dj sotofetts anthemic overdub-12inchedit) was a rather leftfield affair, dritfett is aimed more directly towards the dancefloor. the label artwork gives a clear clue as to what this release is all about: amongst a number of cryptic messages and shout-outs in norwegian - a tr-909 logo. all the tracks here are based around the 909 - thunderous kickdrums and sharp, hissing hi-hats that cut through the mix. still, theres a broad range of sounds, from head-down, fists-clenched warehouse workouts with an industrial edge, to more melodic tracks with detroit references aplenty. make no mistake though: this is all about the power of the almighty 909. theres no fancy tricks here‚ no ableton-trickery or polished waveforms, just good honest techno with a real raw live feel. this gives the tracks the energy and spontaneity that is sorely missed in many of todays productions. the kind of energy you will find - in abundance - in the house and techno releases of the 90s. the kind of energy that can only be achieved by pressing play on a machine, frenetically twisting knobs and punching buttons while letting the energy of the room decide where to go next.

connan mockasins willingness to toy with the edges of musical convention is showcased to startling effect in >faking jazz together<, its typically opaque title belying a gorgeous, leisurely amble through an enchanted forest of lush psychedelia, complete with dreamy guitar licks, liquefied salsa rhythms and mockasins trademark alien vocals, sounding like a transmission from another cosmos, ghostly yet strangely affecting all at once. tom furse from the horrors, meanwhile, extrapolates the beats from the original and relocates them in a wide-eyed, sprawling dub epic akin to screamadelica-era primal scream, and renowned german producer (and kompakt lynchpin) michael mayer builds a propulsive, tropical-flavoured anthem around mockasins unusual vocals, with delightfully unpredictable results. even better, you can see connan mockasin in glorious live action this autumn, when he and his band embark on their own headline tour of the uk, playing dates across the country at the end of september. having already toured with warpaint in the summer, as well as scoring the first short film from acclaimed video director kinga burza, and collaborating with the idiosyncratic likes of charlotte gainsbourg and sam eastgate of late of the pier, it is certain that the eccentric pleasures of connan mockasin arent going to stay a cult secret for too much longer.

we are back with a special release from einmusik. this time samuel kindermann is telling you something about those real summer-nights, those few mysterious and magic hours filled with sounds, colorful lights and beauty all around. -nyx- is one of the songs on the -oceans bottom pt.2- ep. it comes up with an endless dreamy hook, the slappy rhythm is gracious and the groove is full and checkless. bit by bit the headstrong sounds direct you deeper into this track and you re hands will be up at least. backside we find -oneiros- it s a very coltish track with a haunting melody. it s humming in your ears, that s what it is made for. such an easiness coming up while hearing this song, you ll get a bit gushy and your feet won t be able to stop. both songs on are preparing the way into a unique sound-universe which will be opened on einmusiks new album coming up in autumn.

there are still around, real environmentalists for whom the term preservation means more than just a trend. paul-david rollmann alias even-tuell belongs with his artistic productions (among other things, one of the creators of the enthusiast label workshop) to the class of those who answer the call for effective art, design and indulgence. the maxim is always the free will, emancipated from szperfluous market mechanics and the falsehoods of the zeitgeist. for musik krause, his activity is recorded on 2 releases. a split with metaboman and a formidable remix for ian simmonds adorn the catalog. with his quasi-first complete musik krause ep he shows a raw and coarse club music sound without losing even a breath of the aesthetic and compelled movement. all three pieces sound as if they were crafted from centuries old tools, in the way that his music is filtered through the machines humanizedm discharged in a kind of essential honesty.

deep house/us garage veterans mateo & matos have been around longer than the ark. yet they remain capable of great things, as >want u tonight< proves. its a deliciously dizzy deep house concoction that marries contemporary production (see the beefy bottom end) with the twittering synth melodies and loopy organ hooks of old new york house and garage (think nu groove meets henry street). studio54s remix is classic new york deep disco house, while trevor loveys version has more of a uk jazzy house swing. all the mixes are wonderfully slick and groovesome. swayzak & phreek plus one deep symphoniac mixes is wonderful for morning and chill gigs.

for this release kurbits is happy to announce a new artist for the label – laurentiu suciu – aka. faster. laurentiu has been around on the romanian scene for a couple of years and has earned himself a large number of fans throughout the country. under the name faster, laurentiu has already released a couple of remixes and tracks on various digital labels such as the digital divisions of air drop records and cray1 labworks. whereas his previous releases has been more of straight up house affairs, this release sees laurentiu going for the more minimal and hypnotic shades of dance music. on the a-side we have omego, a track with instant hypnotic qualities. the rolling bass line and the atmospheric pads make the track a perfect choice for those in between moments when you are about to take your set from one direction to another. on the flip we have rost, a rhythmic skeleton based around a simple groove and a little hint of melody. the track might not have the ingredients of a chart buster, but we can assure you that it has all the ingredients of what we call a perfect tool. we sincerely hope youll have as much pleasure with these tracks as we are. well be back soon with new and exciting rhythms. happy mixing!

tdrmc: 2011 has started off with a bang and these guys are going from strength to strength with releases on sleazy beats, paper, throne of blood and needwant pencilled in to the schedule. after djing all around the world and dropping these beats to crowds at glastonbury, 021, low slung and finishing off the year with a tour of australia tdrmc show no signs of slowing up. // tomas malo: as one half of the weirdo police, malo goes it alone and delivers some slick french fried funk. currently residing in mexico, malo is working with some of the latin music scenes hottest artists and can be seen sashaying around the latin music awards in miami. // se62: ukrainian wunderkind yura has already enjoyed releases on sleazy beats and is working his magic on home taping. the distinctive style of his loose beats and relentless grooves have been destroying dance floors all over the world. //lex wolf: mambo & circus resident alex has been making beats for the last 10 years which have been the staple diet of any dj worth his salt!! with exceptional musical taste, djing talents to rival any selector and skills in the studio that any producer would kill to have, we are over the moon to be able to present one of his tracks.

supported by tornado wallace (delusions of grandeur), pete herbert (reverso 68/dance disorder)... when jay shepheard launched retrofit in early 2010, deep house with a splash of disco was on the menu. six releases later and the quality of music hasnt faltered once. jays own work has always been the main focus on all five releases but for retrofit 6, rudys midnight machine, (who is in fact robin lee of faze action) takes to the stage alongside an appearance from shepheard (as ee_ef_ex) on remixing duties. >ecstatic love glow< kicks off the ep, diving head first into the disco and synth heavy realm that we expect from retrofit (and, for that matter, from mr lee), whose house outputs with faze action as far back as 97 speak for themselves. the intro of tip tapping hats and congas leads into a penetrating bass guitar, a riff that goes on to be cleverly mirrored by keyboards and later, by what sounds like a scratchy lakland guitar. wooden hats, sirens and a plethora of cosmic elements boogie their way around until the tracks dominant synth parades in and takes over the arrangement, striking a dramatic and smug pose at the close of each stab. the second track of >east side good living< sticks with its predecessors groove, cosmic sirens, electronic whistles and metallic drum taps yet again highlighting rudys modern disco sound

the second serving from schmorgasbord brings together two relatively disparate and unrelated artists, but who both share a uniquely twisted approach to making music. s-max has been doing his thing for some time, running legendary home all things bizarre in house and techno, boogizm, and releasing a special kind of groove on labels such as telegraph, 7th city and karloff. his original track, >ms. rosen dub<, swaggers and sways with the spirit of classic yorkshire bleeps and bass. the groove is house, but the spirit of adventure is most definitely techno. his remix of spatials >corti< takes a very different approach, taking a rolling, jungle-like approach to dubstep and nailing it to the groove with stabbing bass notes. spatial leapt onto the bass music radar late 2008 with his shadowy infrasonics imprint, and quickly snapped heads with his crisp, refined approach to 2-step rhythms. since then he’s done things on his own terms, only releasing for himself and mutating his sound over a series of 10 inches. >corti< perfectly demonstrates spatials unconventional tendencies, lurching and buckling around a perfectly honed splatter of beats, off-centre synths and delirious vocal snippets. meanwhile on his remix of s-max, spatial flips the script once again with a stomping, swung techno angle that hammers the original into an uptempo, fist-pumping banger.

dust science is proud to present the second release from dadavistic orchestra, a collaboration between the black dog and 3 former members of fellow electronic pioneers the psychick warriors of gaia. dadavistic orchestras first release, >dokument .01<, showcased the two groups love for dadaism and all that it inspired. dokument .02 continues with this theme. where the first release was a double a-side of ambient electronic drone, dokument .02 is a six track album of beatless but very high impact electronics. each track weighs in at around 11 minutes of evolving, warm, and affecting analogue deepness. endlessly fascinating and continuously stimulating, these pieces are long, and yet highly economical.

aah, how we have missed them! the fine young gentlemen that are channel x, two of stil vor talents most active producers of meticulously crafted and deeply energetic tech-house smash hits. and just in time for the open-air season they now come back with two very convincing pieces of dancefloor art. first up is >little symphony<, an epic space opera that takes it cues from early 90s techno and mixes it up with post-modern grooves and beats. the wide and open spaces are filled with some very hymnal string patterns that are given a final treatment with a reverbed and high-pitched vocal sample. contrast that with the rather jittery beat and a subbass as deep as the frequencies will go and you got yourself a substantially clear bit of techno that is best imagined when it is dark and only some beams of air tell you where you are. channel x do not produce, they direct and all of the sounds are their actors! on the flip things get more light-hearted and set for the daylight hours as well. >steamboat willie< is a heavily sample-orientated swinging piece of jack. the rhythm guitar lead the way on top of a clap-based loop that sets the basis for some very jazzy interpretations along the way. clarinets, trumpets, percussions, brass, effects and even some talking vocal samples are all allowed to join in this hedonistic big band that is at play. this is one for the sunshine, this is one for the smiles on the faces, this is one to feel instantly good about yourself and everything around you. two very different tracks on this ep, but both equally stand out for themselves

after his last ep on stil vor talent in 2009, born-and-bread berliner sascha braemer is now back with three fresh tracks for the spring of 2011. in the meantime, his funky minimal jump-up tech-house has led him to release on labels as prolific as kindisch or dirtybird. things kick off with >belle<, a ferocious attack on your groove muscles and dancing bones. this tune glides as softly as the wings of an angel while shaking you around like a giant would a dwarf. the up-beat groove is based on a great cut-up vocal sample and some animating synthesizer stabs. sweet! then, >felicitous<, which is considerably slower than the previous two tracks. still, the vocal on this one and the deep electronic body come together perfectly to form a deep and dirty suckerpunch to your euphoria synapses. last up is >people< keeps the effected vocal approach and that really makes this tune. imagine a super deep bassline, some wonderfully syncopated hi-hat trickles and a constant groove to underline the power of the vocal. this track is club pop - so deep and yet so magic it will run shivers down your spine on the breakdown. sascha braemer seems to have put all his experience of peak-time club moments to early morning afterhour visions into his own transcript of signature sound. this is not be mistaken, this is simply on-point

>dysfunction<, hannulelauris first ep on i m a cliche goes beyond the dreamy, cosmic atmosphere of their previous releases and remixes on other eurodisco labels. the duos new sound still sends us floating but with an edgier, more toxic ride. hannu and lauri aka hannulelauri created a track for i m a cliche, a remix of botoxs hit >blue steel<. this track inspired the label to make more room for the finnish duo and bring their new music into its discography.
these two have been active figures in helsinkis club scene for quite a while, producing music together since 2006. when they crossed the borders of finland, the name of the band was pretty hard to retain but it didnt take long for all the bigwigs of modern disco to memorize it. two originals and a selection of remixes: >dysfunction< steps into the territory of deep melodic house with a classic resonance >box of box< throws around some fun rough beats toby tobias remix of dysfunction is iced with elegance and soulfulness. populettes remix of >box of box< is the new best friend of house dancers.

in a time where we have seen a full through back to the sound of the 90s where almost every new record sounds exactly like it was made back in the day. its so refreshing to have producers like martin tc around. hailing from montevideo uruguay, former member of the now defunct monoblock project martin tc proves again that its all about the cutting edge of modern funkyness. delivering a ultra funky, jazz injected techno bomb of an ep. we are proud to present martin tcs first solo project and most definitely not his last. in situ on side a is an exploration in chicago style jack combined with a keen sense latin groove and definitely is the money ticket, a sure shot bomb, a burner, a floor filler, a wmd, explosive, techno poetry in motion… if i do say so… side b continues with the funkyness of bukle but takes in further into a more challenging up tempo realm that can go either way in a house or techno set. al fin y al cabo and vice versa are an excellent reminder that techno jazz is still here and that the swing will never die.

>sis surpriz< is the third in debruits trilogy of eps which began with futuristic electro hip-hop workout >lets post funk< featuring jamie woon and ommas keith, and was followed by 2010s african highlife inspired spatio temporel. the trio of releases all feature 3-d artwork by german designer rainbowmonkey, and 3-d glasses are also included for your viewing pleasure. debruit is currently crafting a debut album based around trips to west africa and recordings with the regions indigenous musicians and traditional instruments. debruit has also been honing his live show which now incorporates a three-piece band, thumb pianos, african drums, highlife guitar, talk box and more, all accompanied by live visuals from rainbowmonkey. the new and improved live experience will be unveiled at the dates below and debruits album is due out later this year.

the record meanders from sunday through to wednesday with a mix of heavy grooving rhythmical percussion and playful melodies. the creation is an intimate sound, playing around with field recording and self recorded instruments. >any given sunday< sees spieltrieb insinuate an early morning club atmosphere, with a lovely distorted e-piano and commanding drops. following on are three more tracks each with their own character and charm, in all a four-track debut that sets the scene for whats yet to come.

some producers are just so underrated that it makes you sick. quadrant is a formation thats been around since 2005 and has released tracks on prestigious labels like renegade hardware, citrus, fokuz to name a few. the quality of their output is extraordinarily crisp and original that its hard not to notice them, this dermaphoria ep is exactly that. and as allways this quadrant release comes with a sexy cover by designer mesk.

danish producer martinez rarely fails to surprise club music lovers with his versatile views on techno and house. his very special enthusiasm enables him to seize new musical territory with every release. with his debut record on cadenza, his house sound develops another depth, a more general view of the ever evolving tension between life and music. the mzuzu ep is all about bass. the bass is all around, the bass gushes into every corner of the club, it pervades concrete and iron. while the low frequencies deal ruthlessly with architecture, they are kind to us humans. the basslines put the dancers in a conforting state of hypnosis which might be an unconscious reminder of the long gone time when one still rested in ones mothers womb. it arouses the memory of a state when one is completely merged with the surroundings. martinez reorganises the structure of house music: the lashing grooves cease to be the center of the tracks. martinez moves the heartbeat of the music from the beats to the bass. its firmness releases the other elements of the tracks, creating a free-spirited feeling. freed from their regular task the grooves are enabled to be rough and open. instead of trying to control the crowd, they ravish us with their liberating energy. the tracks rarely need anything else. the icing on the cake consists in tiny vocal samples. creating an irritating athmosphere, they put us in a state of constant curiosity. disolving completely into the flow of the tracks, the human voices become pure sound. >mzuzu chant< & >adagio< are for the beautiful moments when the dancing crowd detaches itself from time and space

aaah lovely dovely, its that time of year again, the city is covered in snow, chestnuts are a roastin and wee little elves are working away busily pressing the annual home sweet home compilation for your listening and dancing pleasure. yep, its nearly that time of year again, the famed hsh new years rave at the arena/treptow in berlin is just around ye corner. yay! this year we have invited some dj and producer friends from berlin that are playing at the party to contribute to the compilation too! the lovely frenchmen shonky who has played at a few of our shindigs since moving to berlin and is known for his funky techno style has even named his track on a1 >madame moustache<, how very sweet ! snapping at his heels on b2 is our good friend from way up north (maybe he knows santa) and also a berlin resident agaric with his kicking track >after it all< which we are very pleased about. the flipside features some of our homies jens bond and tigerskin with a furious track on b1 followed by nico stojan our little bar 25 flirt with a nice melodic house track on a2 to round things off nicely.

once again, berlin based resopal label head mri sticks to his guns and brings you strangely funky tunes. weakend-polka titled ep is filled with three tracks, all spiked with steady beats, funk, deep melodic chords and an overall glamour house feel. this is not only very well produced house / funk music, its also a journey through deepness and a modern take on the soulful side of the electronic music which exceeds the genre by far with a rich, colourful palette of surprising, individual sounds, butter-smooth chords, some of the most raunchiest bassline that you will ever hear outside of drum n bass, cleverly constructed beat patterns that yet never fail to jack and swing and an understanding of dub that goes far beyond the random use of echo and effects. this is electric intergalactic soul/funk/house/techno. its noir, its dirty, its dangerous and risqu. on vinyl, as we like our little record-shop around the corner.

after several hot tunes on worthy’s anabatic imprint, birminghams tom flynn joins the ranks of the dirtybird crew. i ve battle tested the a-side of this record all around the world. >catch that bird< is a rare mix of deep rooted funk whilst also sounding like a caribbean jungle track pitched down to 126. my favorite!
i d play this ep just on the strength of the a-side but i feel like a lot of attention will also be given to the b-side called >rhode island<. this is a classic piece of deep house with all the melodic elements of a dirtybird jam.
tom sent me at least 7 tracks before i signed these so the guy is certainly prolific and i expect to hear quite a bit more from this up and comer this year.

around the start of 2010 mutated forms caught the attention of the legendary vocalist jenna g, whose previous anthem material with un-cut and chase and status make her one of d&b most loved female artists. their debut collaboration >last time< has all the makings of a future classic. a deep atmospheric introduction, along with jennas sublime vocal roll into a warm heartfelt track with light snappy drums and plenty of bass! plays on radio 1 and 1xtras d&b shows, a spin on the pete tongs essential mix and lots of love and singing in the clubs mean you wont be hearing the last of this one for some time to come!

new yorks elon provides metroline with yet another very fine release. clap back is a real gem. the original mix has a beautiful spacious and airy mix that allows the echo-soaked toms and the swirling vox stabs to breathe, and they really draw you in. an insistent bass pulse provides a structure for the snappy post-garage percussion to build into a lurching, lunging rhythm. very original, and very infectious. ekkohaus remix is a focused, driving deep house groove, shaped around lush, rounded stabs and heavily-filtered synths. claps and snare emerge from the beautifully balanced mix to give the track a real disco kick. the third track on the ep zero gravity has a more back-to-basics feel. the bassline is dubby, but the percussion has a classic french touch feel that gives the track real movement. a rhodes-like synth line wraps itself round the track like a warm fuzzy blanket. maximum comfort for house heads.

volume 4 in the wh a t c h awa n n a d o disco edit series features two artists from the new school disco sound that have contributed remixes for the likes of dfa & rong. first up is southern californias wes coats with an african tinged disco groover that will surely tear up dancefloors from london to soweto. the flipside is turned into a 10-minute gospel house/disco anthem by frances blackjoy that will be the perfect closing song for clubs around the world.
