vision collector records hit number five in their catalogue with a debut record on the label from fellow dubliner breen. after becoming involved in the ever changing vision collector parties and setting up the newly formed internet station dublin digital radio (ddr), breen delivers a 12” spanning four tracks.

this record definitely takes a bit more of a layered approach - natan h offers us yet another unique, immersive, and charismatic release for acid camp records. acid camp records is rolling through again, this time with an artist known for his atmospheric and cosmic-oriented tracks, natan h. conveying inspiration for this record, just a little nod to extrasensory experiences and perception, is undoubtedly fitting for acrs second release. the opening track, atmosphere, breaks away from 4/4 timing with o-kilter drums that traverse into a heavier beat, pushing the track forward just to bring it right back at the end. followed up with a remix from techno serialist, conforce. through his use of a low pass filter, polyrhythms, and fervor conforce delivers a track nothing short of the prototype for driving techno. remote view pt. i turns out an ambient break and taking the listener to a space of the ethereal and planetary. the ep closes with remote view pt. ii, which incorperates layers of hi-hats, delayed strings, and synths that alternate throughout the arrangement in syncopation.

too many possibilities can also mean a tyranny of the what if.... in this light, celebrating less becomes vital. and thats exactly what swedish producer and studio barnhus affiliate simon haydo does in redux. all of the sounds in the albums nine tracks come from just one synth: the korg ms20. as simon puts it, the idea was to maximize the use of less, basically. less gear, less effects, less input from other people , less everything.using only between 2 and 6 channels for every track, the result is a stripped but surprisingly rich sound, that delineates spatial techno vignettes coated with the unmistakable charac- ter of the ms20 filters. even more interestingly, this restraint is not only applied gear-wise, but also from an emotional point of view. instead of involving my own feelings, i let the voice of the ms20 take care of it, says simon. all this makes redux an expression of techno in its purest form. after all, its a kind of music that has always gravitated around simplicity, austerity and, of course, the believe that the machines have their own soul.

catz n dogz continue to roll out their pets sub label step recordings and follow up a slew of soulheavy dance records from baltra, reno wurzbacher and the analog roland orchestra with a solo ep from fellow polish producer universo. with previous appearances on transatlantyk, the auspicious newcomer slots neatly into the step catalogue in presenting his ‘underworld’ ep: a package of softly glowing lo-fi that fans of baltras recent sophia ep on step will relish. underworld then unfolds at a steady, hypnotic pace as moody, interlocking chords and paired up with a gentle spoken vocal that work together to create a poignant, eyes-down mood. icy strings and a trippy spoken are introduced before kora buta follows up with some warm, swooning sample work. sleeper is next up as distant, meandering thumb pianos and rainy textures colour the tracks fuzzy drums while a glassy, legowelt-esque pad glides overhead.frequenza kicks things off a soft, sizzling pad sent ducking under a rock-hard kick drum.

steinzeit concludes the mrt grey series. the duo is comprised of hansruedi schnuriger, one half of echo 106, and bjorn magnusson. they recorded these three tracks in a weekend s time inside magnusson studio, which is an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere, in switzerland, using bare concrete walls as an echo chamber. the pace is slow, atmosphere is bleak, tone is melancholic, drums are evil. it reflects how switzerland feels in winter. lonely, and this is true, like the name of the tracks.

a long time ago, at a festival far, far away, the members of the legendary borft trio frak were just going to bed in their tent when something caught their attention. now, this was well before fraks rise to international fame - in fact, this moment was swedish music history in the making, because what they heard was someone playing a frak tune. that someone turned out to be kontra-musiks own ulf eriksson and once their paths had crossed, there was no turning back. frak has since released five highly sought after records on kontra-musik and kontra-musik white label.

the fourth participant in the gost instrument series is ivan erofeev hailing from siberia’s omsk. ivan was producing and releasing music as aleph for the last five years and this is the first ever record issued under his birth name. the author’s distinctive, monotonus yet liquid sound emerges in these two tracks - deep “h island” and polyrhythmic “sahiba”. framed with field recordings made by the man himself, this two-tracker is a hypnotic and atmospheric journey into ivan’s very own creative universe.

rekids return with an ethereal release from burgeoning producer patrick conway featuring hessle audio’s pangaea on remix duties. -records inspired by transcendental mediation, uk rave, sheffield bleep/warp records, carl craig circa early 90 s, silent servant, shabba ranks and joss sticks smoking out the studio…- – patrick conway syncopated percussion introduces ‘sandy lane’ whilst ebbing pads and metallic nuances add to an overall shadowy aesthetic. ‘orbit’ then sees intricate breaks, ghostly synths and murky melodies join piercing vocal cries before pangaea delivers a cacophonous remix combining crunchy drums with effervescent notes and a throbbing low-end.

embodying a pure devotion to syncopation and dub, and carrying the torch for innovation, collaboration, and bass here in portland, gulls kicks off our new dj music label common language. we sought a record that could bravely blend techno, funk, dub, cumbia, and sound collage into one set of moves. only gulls could fulfill this mission, with bass as the glue in the collage. -eastwood bounce- and -system pools (shock version)- hold down the dub continuum, where -in these times- and -up clean sound- offer syncopated, globally minded un-techno, again run through the gulls dub blender. an endlessly chewy, layered sound is his signature, each track a showcase for contrast between glassy or globular timbres. as one of his few official gulls releases outside of his own label, we are proud to bring this definitive and complete set of tunes in a -something for everyone- 4-song ep format.

both roberto and his own fossil archive label continue to go from strength to strength. roberto has consistently delivered at dj bookings that have seen him return time and again to the likes of tresor and fabric, while the label has fast become a favourite in dj boxes and amongst techno heads. the label closed 2016 on a high with its first set of remixes from two techno legends, sterac and rolando. and now for the first release of 2017 roberto is thrilled to draft in the refined skills of fachwerk’s roman lindau. roberto has of course released on fachwerk in the past and been featured on the bill on more than one occasion when the berlin label have taken over berghain, so roman is a fitting and very welcome addition to his uk imprint. teaming up for ‘nerinea trinodosa’ on the a-side, roman and roberto’s production styles complement one another perfectly on this solid peak-time offering, bringing a depth and power that continues the fossil archive dedication to raw and unfaltering beats. roberto then goes it alone for ‘triage’ on the b-side, a track which was already featured on alan fitzpatrick’s recent fabric mix cd. with its tough tribal sound and deep bass, there’s some serious funk in the groove, completing another essential release from the fossil archive camp.

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! matuss returns to her absence seizure imprint february 2017 with ‘seizure no.6, comprising four original compositions from the new york based artist. since launching the absence seizure imprint in 2015 alongside producer friend abe duque, new yorks matuss has carved out an impressive back-catalogue with this new release marking its sixth and previous material garnering the attention of acts like derek plaslaiko, beaner, dj deep, twr72 and norman methner. once again julia matuss, better known as simply matuss, is at the controls to deliver four original compositions, the first of which la folie sees her deliver a haunting slice of tension building techno via throbbing bass, organic percussion hits and subtly evolving distorted rhythms. muirr follows and takes a more reserved strip back approach with swirling bass tones and sparse drums gradually building towards a frenzied fusion of psychedelic synth swells, vocal stabs and acidic hits. opening the flip side of the record is i hate valentines day, a murky five-minute number employing mind-bending low end drones, dynamic off-kilter percussion and sweeping atmospherics before acid slay closes, and as the name would suggest lays focus on tripped-out acid licks alongside chugging bass and minimalistic drums.

raw minimal techno specialist mono junk is back with a selection of new material on his own dum records. having pioneered key techno sounds as far back as 1990, more than 20 years later the influential finnish artist is still on top of his game. up first is halo, nine minutes of edgy techno with a nervy lead synth snaking around in paranoid fashion. rolling drums set a direct groove in motion below and the whole thing will be brilliantly hypnotic on the dance floor. halo 2 is a hallucinogenic bit of ambient with celestial drones and icy synth prickles making for a tense interlude, then musta peili is all fucked up and scuzzy, study and disrupted. sounding like a slowed-down techno track heard though a freezing snow blizzard, it is masterfully textured. farewell closes out the ep with an intergalactic bit of glassy melodic techno that will have you up on your toes.

it was in june of 1980. after a long and intense journey through time and space, rupert marnie met spiritual highness frater loannis and became his apprentice. the magus told him invaluable things, like controlling his precious bodily fluids and the holistic mastery of others’ endocrine glands. the greatest wisdom though reached him on his seventh day, when frater loannis professed him an an-cient ritual that would allow him to meet the titan ufohagen, also known as cdboy. it was the 4th, when he appeared, dressed in a long, slim silk cloak, a sprinkling wand in his right. rupert stood in awe, immediately losing his newly gained fluid control, and started crafting a piece of music, that would remind mankind that not all is lost, as long as there is almighty ufohagen.

tuff sherm (also known for his work as dro carey) has become an extremely prolific and well acclaimed producer over the years with releases on the trilogy tapes, berceuse heroique and opal tapes. a long time in the works, this versatile release increases in intensity from relaxed lounge piano and slap bass grooves on the a side to full out melodic tribal techno on the b.

inter gritty follows his debut album up with another ep, going down a slightly more abstract path here. void offers plenty of depth with warm pads and subtle breaks, while blurred edges takes your mind for a spin with its cycles of bleeps and ever changing bass line. on the b-side, cure for madness is a gradually unfolding, moody techno builder with crisp beats and lush drones.

bastardo electrico is a techno night and label based in cork, ireland. it’s run by jamie behan, a veteran of the scene and one half of flexure alongside stephen mahoney. both have been djing since the mid-90’s, but flexure is a relatively new hardware-based project that sounds like a mashup of techno, acid, electro and chicago house. shadow puppets is flexure’s debut ep, a collection of unhinged machine bangers fans of tinfoil’s and on the hoof’s weirdness will likely appreciate.

deepblak’s chief alchemist aybee releases his fourth full-length studio album, the odyssey. as befitting its grand title, this newest long-player finds him concerned with personal journeys: both the personal one that has brought him to this point - living in berlin, 15 years since founding deepblak in his native oakland - and the one that beckons for him personally and creatively in future: aybee sees himself as being halfway up a mountain, looking back on where he has come from, and to where he will be headed next - both concepts play a profound role in the emotional textures of the album, which in true deepblak fashion draws from jazz, deep house, techno, hip hop, blues, experimentation, cinema, space, time and infinity.

on this record we find kit geary & israel vines (here as kgiv) exploring the subtleties of slow change within a techno track with the outstanding heady mockingbird and through the rocker from fragments. the b side features an unsung hero of american techno borrowed language veteran jeff pietro with the sonic masterpiece of his hypnotic mockingbird remix.

advanced deep driving techno from amsterdam! jp enfant s let recordings continues to slowly but surely build a fine reputation, and in fact his last ep on the label featured a track, sirens , which got used to great effect by daniel avery on his acclaimed dj kicks mix. now a fourth interesting ep on let recordings comes from shoal, who makes his first out on vinyl after a digital release on planet rhythm in october. utrecht based shoal aims to balance his techno sounds somewhere between rhythmic hypnosis and detailed soundscaping. he urges listeners to twitch out of their comfort zone and to really engage with his music. that is made all the more easy given that it is such inventive stuff. a powerful ep from this emerging new artist.

vanta series is the new series for killekill’s dancefloor music. the releases come in series, every series comes with a theme and one artwork which is being split in several parts to go with each release. the first series is called “the end is near” and features four records. it comes with an artwork by french visual artist elzo durt. vanta 003 comes from eomac under his alias eeoo. eeoo is a side project for what is, in eomac’s mind, straight up, techno-rave-house-jungle- disco influenced, dancefloor material. it draws influence from classic styles of dance music. less dense, less conceptual than the eomac-music. less focussed on texture and atmosphere, a more direct approach for sweaty ravers and moving bodies.
