mathias schaffhauser, founder of german label ware records debuts on third ear with a 3 track 12inch. this is big-sky, expansive, driving techno even the beatless version of grad minus 12. mathias schaffhaeusers ware records had a very recognisable sound. it was one of the defining labels of the cologne sound, most associated with kompakt these days. but in the 90s and early 00s, ware was as significant a label, especially for djs. this release is very much a good example of that sound, still sounding fresh and bristling with good energy.

roberto auser is known for his wide range of sounds and releases on viewlexx and his own ausland label. next to that he is part of kaval (vrystaete). even though his releases until now go from italo disco inspired electro to exotica and dark jazz influenced electronics his production is always rather smooth. for enfant terrible he shows his raw and dirty side. “faceless future” is an old school minimal elektro record done with analogue synths with a real industrial and post-punk attitude. this record pays tribute to (early) cabaret voltaire, (early) front 242 and (later-day) le syndicat electronique. simply minimal electronics as it should sound… rough and unpolished…

pawas & schaffhäuser liefern hier einen lupenreinen slo-mo deep house-groover ab, der mit einem brillanten remix des holländers nuno dos santos (ehemals resident in amsterdams trouw) und einem funky-verspielten patrick zigon remix erscheint. *hunt* ist die erste kollaboration der langjährigen freunde pawas gupta und mathias schaffhäuser. alles begann mit pawas epischer instrumental version, welche mathias dazu inspirierte vocals dazuzumischen. dann bearbeiteten und produzierten beide die vocal version zusammen und gaben die vocals an den aufstrebenden kölner kompakt-star gregor schwellenbach weiter, der dann mit der rhodes darauf improvisierte. ein alter hausfreund von ware records, rudolfo irving (disco til you die), brachte schließlich die hedonistischen elemente des tracks auf ein neues level und beamte ihn auf den zeitgemäßen disco-tanzboden.

bear newcomer roberto auser has his debut album inbound on bearfunk. whilst we prepare for that gem to drop roberto has teamed up with fellow dutchman alden tyrell for their disco house hybrid blondes and brunettes. alden has had a series of fine releases on the clone and moustache labels, here he fuses his accomplished style with the electronic wizardry of roberto. each of them contributes a spanking remix. alden is tasked with dancefloor operations and he duly delivers with his 4/4 drums, rolling analog basslines and main room swing. roberto goes for the bar mix which tones down the swank but adds in slick percussion and analog stabs for a early set highlight. label chief bear stevie kotey contributes his own version. this time around the real drums and bass guitars have been sidelined in favour of linntastic drum programming and sequenced synth lines. the roberto auser album secret carnaval is out on bearfunk in spring 2010
