terrance mcdonald introducing his new funkshun keys records imprint. amazing colored vinyl reissue previously on trax sublabel feat an homage to to the original art. this legendary 4 track ep takes you to 1991 when tmack was running with roy davis jr., brian harden, dj skull and ellery cowles.
an all-time rave classic gets the gerd janson re-loving as he works his magic on the 1992 anthem dont go. 26 years on from it s first release, gerd takes the tempo down a notch laying out that all too familiar drum break, instantly recognisable piano line and julie mcdermott s timeless vocals. his subtle touches and added weight, behind a pounding kick, are sure to set any dancefloor alight. about as euphoric as they get - if this doesn t do the business then god help us all. on the b side, belfast s ejeca flips don t go into a heavy-hitting, rave tinged, techno bomb. his inventive sampling turns the synth stabs and vocals on their heads, making them almost indistinguishable, but no less impactful, from the original. it s over four and a half minutes till the iconic chord progression is heard in it s initial form, before ejeca throws it back into a rapid fire, industrial thumper. lastly, gerd serves up a vip dub mix echoing claps and synth lines into the stratosphere, whilst leaving the vocals at bay, save a short cry of don t go from julie towards the end of the track, allowing those anthemic elements to do the talking. a modern touch on an all-time classic from gerd with a complete reinterpretation from ejeca, this is a heavyweight release and one thats already being played by the biggest and the best out there.
marshstepper are the most radical incarnation of ascetic house, the collective and publishing house based in the desert city of tempe, arizona. marshstepper’s dark electronic ritualism is performative, violent, unusual, shocking, unpredictable and raw. during their berlin atonal show in 2016, they were joined by drew mcdowall, jonas römnberg and juan mendez.
drew mcdowall and hiro kones collaborative record the ghost of georges bataille induces a state of suspense via sonic seance. conjuring the sentiment of death as productive force, the artists join their analog paradigms to open a door elsewhere, or perhaps, inside sublimating personal struggles into ritualistic offerings. churning, cinematic, and pulsating with an organic sentience the ghost of georges bataille invites an undeniable presence into the consciousness and lulls both collectors and the newly inducted alike into catharsis with the hairs on their arms standing up. not for the casual listener.

in 1979, the critically acclaimed artist ralph macdonald (who co-wrote just the two of us with bill withers) released his third lp via marlin records. though the reception for the album was mixed - most agreed on it s musical highlight, east dry river . 37 years later, and just in time for the arrival of summer, fly by night music s calypso weighs in with a fitting edit, respecting and captivating the original beauty of the track, making just a few subtle changes whilst revamping the percussion. someone pack the suncream, this party s going outside..
rediscovered 80’s british acid house gem ‘cortina kidz’ recently made a serious impact on andy butler’s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow’s lipelis’ steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being “a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,’ xlr8r as “drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london”, while ransom note noted “cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time”. originally recorded on london’s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, ‘cortina kidz’ remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that “since it’s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it’s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis’ recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.
a humid 3 tracks scorcher from sirius type and mcdoo. “odd food”, originally released by dave sector through sector 1212, is fossilized next to “wow”. on the flipside, sirius type delivers a plaster shaking ko with “thankyousphere”. sirus type is a collaboration between eric douglas porter (afrikan sciences) and tom mcconnell.
drew mcdowall’s back story reads like a primer of psychedelic fiction woven into statements of the unbelievable, superhuman and outright insane. somewhere in the chaotic madness, comes an artist such as mcdowall with total control and absolute calm within his songs and artistic method.
dais records approached drew to solidify his standing as a leading electronic musician with the recording of new material neatly wrapped up in his debut album entitled “collapse”. recorded in 2015 in brooklyn, ny, mcdowall’s synonymous modular synthesizer compositions are augmented by obtuse sampling cut-ups and contributions from nicky mao (hiro kone / effi briest) rounding out the lumbering sequential knot work that has become synonymous with mcdowall and craft.
the vinyl lp includes a downloadcode for the full album.
next up on baum is a well-known artist under his new synonym rcd, with his first release on the label. the 4 track ep offers deepness and heavy stabs, and is a blend of dub techno, deep house and old school detroit strings. absolute killer ep!

championed by a certain mr d. carter for an age and a staple of derricks sets, both in its original form and as the accapella layered atop of a variety of oddities.
originally released in 2004 on the heels of the massively successful singles losing my edge and give it up, lcd soundsystems *yeah* is a choice dance-rocker with everything one expects from the dfa hit factory infectious baselines, killer disco beats and percussion, disaffected vocals and burning keyboards. back in print on vinyl, its an instant party with a climactic end.

chris duckenfield has done more than a few laps around the acid house track producing and djing since the late 80s, and achieving success through numerous music projects, rac on warp, as swag with richard brown through the 90s and more recently with his popular peoples front & duckbeats aliases. >i really do believe< joyously straddles the disco & house worlds, a rollicking metalic riff, soaring etta james vocal samples, a healthy dose of acid and a serious low end - constructed for sweaty basements & causing a major stir with a few choice drops at the recent electric elephant festival in croatia. new and super talented producer chicagodamn provides a superb remix on the flip, taking the key elements of the original to a strobe-lit warehouse destination in fine style!

lcd soundsystem returns with a song written for the soundtrack to the sony pictures film 21. james murphy’s concept of what a big rock song made for a movie could sound like more than a balls-out big rock song, the track delivers in unexpected ways, from the edgy opening two minutes that alone could serve as the score to a car chase, to the sudden explosion of choirs, blissful harmonies, and larger-than-life chorus. babytalk, who has created quite a buzz with two top-notch releases and is currently the toast of underground dance music and disco heads, remixes the track into something seemingly slower and definitely more sinister
somewhere between peaches and metro area this is a really cool record that is super lo fi. nice disco claps and trippy guitar with cowbells. the vocal is very rock, screeching mid way through. flipping over its very electro and minimal with the vocal going spoken word about hits of the 80s. fans of all the current electro clash biz, will totally be feeling this.

2018 blue vinyl repress made possible after a beat tape swap between prefuse 73 and dabrye after the pair shared the stage in detroit, instrmntl is a continuation of the beat experiments tadd mullinix began with one/three and a bridge to the diverse textures that would define two/three four years later. instrmntl offers a snapshot of a time when potentials seemed infinite, when lines could be drawn between jazz, ragga jungle, techno, and hip-hop and the resulting shape divined an exciting future.
youth isn’t usually associated with wisdom, or depth or complexity for that matter. most 22 year-olds are still figuring out how a washing machine works but in the case of howes (the solo project of manchester-based john howes) he’s making electronic music that is operating on innovative and experimental levels one might expect from a hardened career musician hitting their stride. having released a more house-oriented 12” on melodic a couple of years ago, his debut album proper is a record that is as expressive as it is cohesive. it’s a release that floats between nocturnal stillness and insomniac driven intensity. the shift, howes says, “comes from the forced and narrow nature of a lot of electronic music. most modern electronic music to me is too safe in terms of ambition, sound design and intention.”
the limited edition 180g heavyweight vinyl includes a download code and comes housed in reverse board outer sleeve and black inner bag.
limited to 320 numbered copies.
if *the wanderer* was the record that brought romanthonys obscure blackmale label to a wider dj audience, *testify* was the release that cemented its reputation as one of the labels to check for in the us import section. here are brandnew remixes: jimmy edgar, in true blackmale style, takes romans original chops it in his sampler and lays the results over a thundering distortion tinged beat. it is proper raw jacking business, perfect for small dark rooms with a few hundred sweaty bodies. waifs & strays deliver a brilliant modern update complete with an air-punching sax solo (something that was definitely one of the nails in the deep house coffin the first time round and the kind of thing that could get you shot if you used in the 00s). illyus & barrientos deliver what is arguably their strongest remix to date dropping snips of the original over a quite brilliant bassline groove. ed one & boddenalso opt for some bassline action but add in classic organ stabs and todd edwards style vocal chops to their big-ass bass wobbler. lastly, we have the previously unreleased cd#9 vocal version which as usual, features one of romans deeper, more organic mixes.
in the beginning god created the bass drum. he made it beat 8.601 days. then he left it away. god said: death is the greatest work of art. and its expensive. finally infinite. thats politics and science and art. the art of omission. the art of refusal. death is absolute. the bass drum is absolute. do you want the absolute bass drum? if you manage to convince him, god will be happy to lend you his axe, because what happens is what he wants. just like the people. they want it to happen, too. the most expensive work of art in the world is a skull encrusted with 8.601 diamonds.
beautiful soothing stuff from jus ed’s fantastic imprint. the original cut is a inspired floating mix of rhodes, strings and a bouncy percussive beat. additionaly theres a more driving mix by jus ed, a oldschool house take by bu mako and a more laid back broken offering from black jazz consortium. quality stuff all around
since the release of his 2 first albums on favorite recordings, lucas arruda has quickly established himself as one of the most talented young artist and composer from brazil. his music is filled with fusion style, mixing influences and elements from his latin musical background, with his genuine admiration for jazz, soul, pop and funk music.
three years after his groundbreaking album >the meaning< (playhouse, 2004) thomas melchior presents his new longplayer >no disco future<. skills and experiences thomas gained throughout the years are innumerous. to mention just a few: along with tim hutton he formed the duos vulva and yoni who were releasing on aphex twins label rephlex, on the us-label reflective, and for german electronica pioneers source records. with his mate peter ford he forms the duos sunpeople and soul capsule (and various others). the new album sounds less microhousy and more homogeneous. slightly spherical soundscapes perfectly unite with discreet vocals building very harmonical structures..
