repress - pursuing their explorations in the vast corridors of international funk and disco music, favorite recordings and bruno patchworks hovart present us voilaaa. with this first single composed of 2 tracks that clearly reveal the afro-disco inspiration of this new experience, favorite also expands its new series of disco 12inch singles recently launched with several fine reissues, but this time with one of its special homemade production recipe. under the imprint of the label and after their long years of collaboration in the achievement of projects such as the dynamics, mr president, mr day, patchworks galactic project, or taggy matcher, the insatiable french producer therefore returns to his first love and specialty, disco music, staring this time at the african and caribbean influences. indeed, as everywhere in the 70s and 80s, funk and disco movements were extremely influential in these regions, and in most cases, the combination of the festive, yet sometime futile nature of disco, and the instinctive, deep, sometimes rough nature of african music, sounds like a perfect balance. aiming to find back this energy and specific sound, patchworks quickly began producing a few tracks, using his unique and ruling beats and bass lines as foundations, this time he dresses all with guitars, keyboards and brass distorted with vintage and diy effects pedals and boxes. with a very dynamic music scene around him in lyon, where there is no shortage of artists with african origins, he decided to surround himself with singers from the region, even if it means to accompany them on unusual musical paths. a more than successful bet with a result surprising of authenticity, as it’s unveiled by these first two titles alongside sir jean and pat kalla, both from a musical background as rich than different. with an album planned for the end of the year, that promises to be as explosive and magnetic, patchworks and favorite recordings make a strike again and confirm them a little more if needed, as the true warrant of the modern dancefloors loyalty, to the spirit of their mythical ancestors

frigio consistently plumb the depths of electronics to find new material, and this time the madrid imprint has unearthed, in the murky currents, a real gem. tecwaa is the solo project of york based producer paul fawcett, a musician who discovered his sound in the british warehouse parties of the early nineties and went on to nurture it with movie scores, detroit techno and homegrown electronica. his debut brings together three pieces of original machine music alongside a very special remix. the menacing -the eighth circuit- broods into being. looming synthwork is further darkened by distant vocals, house percussion keeping time in this sinister opener. -mantra & machine- has similar attributes. adopting clean rhythms, the track refuses to sit comfortably in any genre pigeonhole as tecwaa weaves a work of cerebral depth. charles manier introduces the flip with his take on -fervour-, tadd mullinix returning to frigio for the first time since his superb remix as jtc of juanpablo s -dream- in 2010. a funk laden work of hip hop breaks and industrial distortion where manier explores blackened moods and horrorshow grooves. the original of -fervour- closes, showing another side of fawcett s style, bpms drop as foundations are laid bare in this stark conclusion.

following a killer acid-piano house 12inch and contributing a test pressing-certified new-disco chug to a split release with tuff city kids (both) on terre des pommes in 2014, the working elite further refine their ability to soundtrack festivities with rockman / born again. while rockman conveys an understatedly cinematic mood with repeated imitation string cycles over crisp electro foundations, born again presents a new wave / rave endurance test, summoning perspiration from dedicated day-dancers with its metronomic hammer of a beat overlaid with motivating synth-lines like marching toys. on the flip, saap and lauer (tuff city kids) provide inventive interpretations of these tunes, reshaping rockman into a stomping, flashing-lights electro jam while born again gets a delightfully multi-dimensional digi-dub treatment complete with acid-reggae breakdown over a 4/4 house beat.

jeremiah jae (aka black daffi) is an experimental hip-hop artist born and raised on the south side of chicago. he is a visual artist, producer, emcee and founding member of black jungle squad, a music collective consisting of close friends and family. early works by jae dating back to 2007, display his unique style and approach to crafting his own version of “hip-hop”. the genre is one of many foundations the artist uses to communicate his range of styles as shown on previous self-released albums, compilations and collaborations (holy smoke, oliver the 2nd, l’orange, cohenbeats, pbdy), as well as praiseworthy offerings on brainfeeder and warp records. with his newest solo album daffi, jae expands on his production and speaks in the persona of his alter ego to express a darker side.

more than ten years since he first emerged on skull disco, appleblim presents his debut album. the label he co-founded with shackleton was the first the world heard of his productions, but laurie osborne’s innate relationship with electronic music culture reaches back much further than those groundbreaking early days of dubstep. early days spent soaking up hardcore, jungle, techno and plenty more besides were fundamental foundations from which to spring into the then-unknown realms of sub-low half-step club music. at that time fwd>> and dmz were the church for this ritualistic sound, and appleblim was a regular fixture at both.

ital foundation came together in the winter of 1977, out of a shared belief in rastafarianism and deep love of reggae music in their home place bermuda. their music tackles global issues of colonialism, poverty, prophecy and redemption. they released only one album in their legendary career, the 1980 release ital foundations vol.1. a tumultous history rought with trial and tribulation resulted in ital foundation being an underground musical movement that saw record sales all over the world while the band languished in obscurity.

rene lavice’s journey continues with his third lp on formative drum & bass imprint ram records, a label whose history spans across two decades. after being exclusively signed, following his pivotal ‘headlock’ release, the canadian stalwart has remained a centrepiece of ram’s roster and his back catalogue is nothing short of groundbreaking. the same consistency has been administered to his forthcoming ‘far from perfect’ package, whilst building on the foundations of both ‘insidious’ and ‘play with fire’ to present another look into his versatile capabilities. as well as a plethora of taste-making singles and the announcement of his bbc radio 1 residency last year, rene’s career has flourished, alongside the creativity which streams through each one of his records.

from his saint denis apartment, and with the help of his machines, labelle has laid the foundations of an electronic maloya, modern and deeply rooted in its home territory: la réunion. on univers-île his latest album released in september 2017, the sound of the creole reunionese language played a key role. on post-maloya, labelle release a fascinating ep of introspective trance music.

oxford-based emseatee is a kind of special. like a scientist in a secret laboratory in the dawn of the night he is blending atmos, styles and rhythms. organic in flow and open to experiments with natural sounds, he is always up to something new. emseatees experiments take time and go back until 21.06.2014, when minerva visited him and together they laid the foundations for this release.

milan is a parisian based producer, providing sweet house, dance and hip hop music, flirting with some jazzy and soul influences.to date, he released on labels like banoffee pies, beat x changers, quartet series and skylax records.setting obvious foundations into house, techno, disco, funk, hip-hop and soul, tell’s music incorporates many elements from his musical past. his journey began playing drums and piano in bands as a teenager, which manifests itself in the raw, live sound he strives for in his productions.

central to the israeli club scene, deepa & biri have long been defying expectations even within a community they helped construct. serving as resident djs, activists and bookers for tel avivs legendary barzilay club, the pair helped build a transcendent club scene. hugely influential artists such as robert hood, derrick may, rødhad, ben klock and moritz von oswald passed through the club, enjoying legendary crowds and what they could surely sense was a genuine air of anarchy, rebellion and unadulterated rave pleasure. as the duo held down dozens of parties with dozens of djs, there was no ‘eureka moment for their emerging sound, just a steady stream of brilliant, inspiring electronic music, much of which left an indelible imprint on the pair. now based in berlin, for deepa & biri, things are much the same, even if the landscape and the city is different. always rooted in the fertile ground between machines and emotion, on their second full-length lp, ‘dominance, the duo demonstrate their unique grasp of the sensitive, unfolding relationship between man and machine. steadfast in their insistence never to remain in one lane in terms of their sound, ‘dominance flawlessly segues between forcefulness and weightlessness. from beginning to end, this is not a record afraid to show its teeth with an uncompromising, instantly recognisable techno palette that kicks the foundations of any sound system with menace, anger and determination, particularly on tracks such as the dense ‘voltage and pulsing throughout the more industrial flourishes of ‘ecole de nancy and ‘seeking solace.

gitanes is olde gods new ep and longest output to date. following a series of singles on the minor planets label, the barcelona duo are up to a 12inch four-tracker on amsterdams atomnation. gitanes brings echoes from spains not-long gone golden club era. its cover depicts an abandoned club from the 90s in a coastal town in the mediterranean, could be anywhere from valencia to barcelona. all four tracks are trippy yet solid-grounded, spacey voices and strings leads all flying up and magically suspended over gross rhythmical foundations. dear cz, a fetiche track, built around a moody casio cz synth stab topped up with acid videogame-like crazyness. gitanes brings entrancing vocals intertwined with more cz pad action. all around is a foggy and paranoid late-night drive, and none of these bitches, a homesick folks walk around tokyos daikanyama area. olde gods are jmii and guillamino

4 years can feel like a really long time – -long time no see- was achim maerz frst wake up! ep back in 2013, -it s been a while- is his frst track on metal and machines and it s good to see that some things don t change. it s a true achim maerz track – focused on longing melodies, warmly distorted harmonies based on deep house foundations. -listening to machines- features a kickdrum like a steam hammer in factory hall. for the right mind, even a factory can be an inspiring place. benjamin brunn s -iron copper gold- follows his manner of creating timeless and eternal soundscapes. it is less playful and takes the tension to higher grounds. just like metal, it s cold being touched and it doesn t take long until it reaches body temperature. the fourth track express mode- was released on benjamin brunns drop lp in 2015. achim maerz remix sounds like a screwed-down uptempo house track – slow and heavy, but benjamin brunn s quirkiness is undeniably there.

venera is a deep emotional title adding further shelflife to the growing arctic music catalogue. searing guitars, keys and chime moods escalate over sharp breaks alaska style. arctic foundations s criterion makes a welcome return on the flipside featuring kiyomi grounds on vocals. a small twist alongside the original intense amen breaks with a longer 9 minute digital excursion.

american musician aaron spectre turns up the volume with four tracks of jungle punk rock intensity, continuing his mission of uniting cultures at their roots. here we have four tunes of guitar, relentless amens, deep bass, and soulful soundclash vocals, ready to rumble your space of choice. also on the menu is a collaboration with fellow ragga junglist feyder, rounding out a brilliant ep which inspires and shakes foundations.

time for a little recognition… pets welcome a true polish techno founding father to the fold: jacek sienkiewicz. dj since the early 90s, producer since the late 90s and one of the earliest artists to stamp their country down on the techno map, jacek was one of the first polish producers to be signed by the likes of trapez, cocoon and klang and laid down the foundations for the likes of pets founders catz n dogz several years later when they emerged as 3 channels. og status confirmed, hes remained just as consistent as he is influential. this single is proof: ‘su17 is a bubbling sine cauldron that starts with a simmer but builds to a boil with its ever-morphing, lava-like flow. expert drum momentum and sudden layers of instrumental help to create a fluid three-track-in-one experience that spellbinds you crowd for the entire eight minutes without realising. ‘mustang is a cascading synth odyssey that gently rises and falls like an escher looped staircase. gradually building in momentum with more of jaceks signature hypnosis flare, its not until the drums double up with an almost live-style visceral feel that you realise just how high jaceks taken you. it comes complete with a star-lit switch from berlins serial innovator tobias, where the synths are deftly refocused and a whole layer of orchestral delight are layered within.

bbe are excited to present the first in a new series of strictly limited 7” pressings exploring some of the most iconic house tracks of all time, as chosen by dj spinna and kai alce. with global interest in ‘45s on the rise, ‘foundations’ aims to fill those frustrating gaps in all our collections by releasing specially crafted edits of classic house tracks on 7” vinyl for the very first time. part one of the ‘foundations’ series celebrates chicago producer cajmere’s early masterpiece ‘brighter days’ featuring dajae. best known in recent years by his ‘green velvet’ moniker, curtis jones has been blazing a trail through house and techno since launching his cajual imprint back in ’91. reaching #2 on billboard’s dance chart in 1992, ‘brighter days’ was cajmere’s breakthrough hit and continues to educate and inspire producers, djs and dancers to this day.
