the „will you be there ep” completes the „christophe salin - ep series“. he is taking us on his musical journey and paves the way for cooperation with future artists on his very own imprint „salin records” that he runs with his wife daria salin as a platform for electronic music and art. „to love” is what it’s all about, love your next one, love yourself, love what you do, love music and art. needing a bridge at this point nothing would be sweeter than a little excursion to the french touch sound and vibes of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. so, the a-side ends up with a question „shall i give love another try“…flip side „i’ll think of you” keeps this mood until „your soul” takes us slowly over to the final declaration of love „lullaby for daria“.

no intro needed as „dreams sometimes come true” instantly takes us on the groove line. „astra perle” keeps the groove alive with some heavy jazz samples. you maybe remember sitting in your first car (christophe’s first car was named „purple pearl” and was an „opel astra “) and just cruising thru the city. imagine to be suddenly overwhelmed by a creative hole, „ohh no, not you “… turn over to „can you pay my bills” the journey continues with more jazzy vibes to end up with a downtempo lounge-dub-work which is indeed „different but sweet“.

the „sweet memories ep” is the first release of a three-ep-series coming up in 2018. christophe salin is taking us on his musical journey and paves the way for cooperation with future artists on his very own imprint „salin records” that he runs with his wife daria salin as a platform for electronic music and art. „sweet memories” is just setting up the right mood for this ep that will unlock some forgotten moments and will take you back to that feelings. „paradise” is an homage to the early 2000s and their happy go lucky attitude while „covered with pain” takes you on a modern ambient trip. the flip side is a statement, „house music is like a call, it is a religion to them…” as well as „love is unfair” are coming deep from the heart.

austin ato is the latest project from colin bailey, the multi talented producer from oban in scotland who has been the man behind the drums of death moniker since 2008, and has also recorded under the frankie dreams and coba aliases. with forthcoming material also due on phonica white, ato lands on futureboogie with the massive feel good vibes of music will save the day, backed with two superb remixes from auntie flo and christophe. featured here are two original mixes of music will save the day. the dub mix the is classic house music jam, packed full of energizing musical flourishes, from the balearic tinges of the sequenced mallet riff, whimsical pads and booming bassline to the searing crowd chant and the joyous piano motif. ato displays some serious musical chops here, which are further enhanced on the vocal mix with the addition of a bi-lingual vocal hook that will surely act as a call to arms on any discerning dancefloor. on the auntie flos hidden garden remix, the huntleys & palmers mainstay strips things right back for a beatless excursion, letting the percussive elements drive the forward motion whilst the melodies and thick synth pads wash over like crashing waves, a great reinterpretation by brian dsouza aka auntie flo. futureboogies very own christophe provides the second remix, tweaking an acid riff over a heavy, old school drumbeat and teasing in the musical elements, providing a tougher and more jackin take on the original mix, whilst keeping faithful to the original vibe.

vyvyan wants to keep his real identity secret, which is something i can’t help but respect (i did the same for a couple of years). without the context of personality, the music really does do the talking, and in this instance it has a lot to say.

perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

it took me a couple of years get invited to christophe de groot’s (aka circadian rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his sonic archive. but time tells and basic moves 02 is what came out. the two tracks were recorded at earguard studio in brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons. “frequency” is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo.
i’m super happy i could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master dat tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. we had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini dat cassette. after a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: “a dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation”. “house speaker call” originated in proto-techno forms. christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. as a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. deg’s antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit. tune your cells into his vibrations and get ready for these two timeless club tracks.

known for their take on the gentler side of house music, jazz pianists, electronic enthusiasts and label founders of the analogue attic imprint, albrecht labrooy have joined night tides family with their latest sojourn emissary ep. the release began with a concept from the artists, who asked for field recordings taken by night tides eluize from around her adopted home in berlin. sounds from parks, gardens, trains and stations that make up the local, everyday sonic landscape made their way across the atlantic to arrive in albrecht labrooys studio, where they were used as inspiration for the three outings on this record. the melbourne duo’s live approach to programming and arrangement can be heard as the tracks ebb and flow effortlessly. in tempelhof sub swells and a throbbing kick accompany delicate leads and lightly touched drums. the more uptempo hinterhof pulses and sways with lively percussion, crystalline bells, euphoric strings and softly spoken melodies that float in and out of view. u-bahn/s-bahn begins with glistening top lines and panoramic chords over a growling bass and a steady groove. as the journey rolls on from the underground into open-air window-gazing territory, the piece takes an ambient, beatless turn. contemplative synth lines and arpeggios play while the station announcements drift somewhere in the distance. photograph by christophe mauberqué.

for a long time, vidal benjamin has been getting up early at the weekends. whether alone or in company, he digs his hands into various crates at record fairs, flea markets or in empty attics, to uncover records that have long been forgotten, ignored or even despised. among the small circle of parisian diggers, his reputation precedes him: it is he who finds and it is he who shares. it is not unusual that in his wake, one finds a certain record long lost, left behind as a special gift from vidal. he likes to share so that others may discover. and it is for that same reason that he regularly sleeps late, playing records in clubs at night, where he follows a similar path: altruistic, educational and festive. it’s no surprise, then, that his first compilation goes by the fitting title of disco sympathie.
