The rising Bristol stars behind this EP have already delivered solo efforts for Futureboogie with Christophe dropping the acid disco grooves of ‘The Force’ for the label’s second release and Luke Turner aka Lukas bringing the dubby deep and jazzy vibes on the digital offshoot ‘Summer Riot EP’ with ‘A Bigger Splash’ (as well as a Mixmag download approved remix of Crazy P’s ‘Changes’.) Together, it’s no surprise they’re a force to be reckoned with and the debut Lukas & Christophe EP is an expertly woven retro and frenetic dancefloor workout with big bass and big personality. Kicking off with a bomb, A-side ‘Teardrops’ allows an airy cosmic vibe to emerge out of the boisterous Bristol energy with a spacious groove and a rise of warm synth pads. The dancefloor purpose is in tact with intermittent rave bleeps, strong claps and an 80s acid b-line but it’s the glorious build of FX, layered percussion and soaring piano melodies that send you straight to heaven. B-side ‘Reel Love’ is a synth-laden disco train with old school piano stabs sending shock waves through a deep and sexy RnB style vocal sample and arpeggiated bleeps. These guys and the rest of the Futureboogie crew are redefining the big room house sound by taking strains of classic house, acid, electro and 80s disco and wrapping it into one fresh and feisty package. Sealing the hat trick, ‘Stalker’ is a riotous bass-driven animal with heavy beats and claps cutting through feathery vocal ripples that float above a filthy low bass-line. Things get raucous with a wonky piano motif that collides with disco bleeps and warm tingling strokes against commanding percussive antics.
