following up after the recent circadian rhythms release is sebastian s under his caustic 14 alias with a yummy yummy double 12- six tracker full of speedy bleep science breakbeat and colorful jungle techno compositions that could only be made in bruxhell (aka brussels). the selection is a patchwork of various unreleased works from around 1993 to 1996. a silent witness of these rave-days said the following about the production process of the tracks on this new basic moves release: -we were eager to share our individual sound universes with each other and see where it would take us. these compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as babylon 5 or star trek, scrutinising each episode while composing.-

10 years after blu and exile released their magnum opus below the heavens, the california duo have reunited to release 14 tracks from the original 2007 sessions. in the beginning: before the heavens contains previously heard songs and unreleased gems – the best of the best chosen from over 40 songs in the vault. their third collaboration follows 2012s give me my flowers while i can still smell them, and is slated for an october release. in the beginning: before the heavens is made of up songs that are raw and untouched, keeping the authenticity of blu and exile’s creativity at the time. the album has guest appearances from familiar names like dr. oop, donel smokes, aloe blacc, and blame one. while soul provider, another day, and party of two appeared on blus lifted ep, the majority of these songs showcase blu rapping at his peak, maintaining his underground attitude as he dishes on reaching star status (constellations), getting radio play (on the radio), or opposing views in a problem-ridden world (youre gonna die someday). exile, meanwhile, builds a golden hip-hop era feel with head-nodding samples and dj scratches.

the limited, hand-stamped presentation of the canoe releases matches the music contained within, all grainy and unusual but utterly tooled up for the club. nyra s pet project is providing a fascinating insight into the make up of this ever emerging artist, and tracks like -opening rhyme- are sure to pique interest from all kinds of adventurous spinners. while the track may start in a kind of looped up deep house headspace, after the breakdown it takes an unexpected, thrilling swerve into twitchy acid. -tape trek- is more overt in its surreality with its layers of pitched speech getting run through the mill and splashed over a primal drum machine beat. -galaktik- meanwhile has a touch of old skool rave about it, but it s far from an obvious throwback track. suffice it to say, we ll have whatever nyra s having.
