raf reza s debut 12 inch ep proto is a modern inflection of electro boogie and is the second release from cosmic resonance records. raf’s studio productions mirror the multifaceted nature of his dj sets. he draws melodic and rhythmic considerations from a broad range of dance music both old and new to create contemporary club music with compositional appeal.

taking proto sites back to the hypnotic hardware methods of earlier releases like lutto lento, s olbricht and sentry, suspension ep makes things kaleidoscopic, raw, repetitive and asynchronous. high gain perishing delays gradually cook your brain while flerbing sci-fi reverberations crawl across the atmosphere. this five-track cassette mantra has a furry analogue outer crust barely containing its computer controlled acid consciousness. each tune has its own density and unique stripped back bass structure which carries the whole thing along, absorbing strange hissy elements as it rocks downstream. breaking through the mantle, sawtooth voices murmur foreign incantations, swinging loopy phrases come and go jamming their way into repetitive bass squelches all pressure cooked to the extreme.

at its core, liminal zones floats through recognisable sonic objects, acoustic voices mimic electronic processing and vice versa, creating a fragile simulacra in constant flux. some elements, like recordings of airflow through huge organ pipes were picked up during an artist residency in stavanger, norway in 2015.

ps006 brings things back to the foggy outskirts of techno somewhere close to s olbrichts praised trancess twelve inch. from the relentless momentum of the futuristic *station crucial* to the sinking cathedral depths of *stare at the word*, plus concrete brutalism of *surrender*, all rely on a steady techno pulse trapped in visceral synth textures crunching their way through vacuum tubes.

adham shaikh ist ein geschätzter ambient-, dub- und keyboarder-künstler aus vancouver, kanada, dessen tracks anfang bis mitte der 90er jahre ihren weg auf wegweisende labels wie instinct, dossier, interchill und sein eigenes label modulation elektronik gefunden haben.
