shot at dawn is a scintillating return for a band who have been collectively quiet (but individually busy) for a few years, and (once again) sounds like the music of tomorrow. lyricist leon mayes wills the real revolution to come, morris’s uneasy keys and driving, bittersweet production embodies the uk s collective anxiety/apathy coupled with an impending sense of doom, as we all obediently troop off the cliff like lemmings, while vocalist michelle manetti s melancholy delivery is the perfect foil both, recalling tracey thorn at her best.

cliff has clearly been smoking something special. all it takes is one of his richest efforts to date, and that’s saying a lot coming off a consistent roll of terrific releases. a-side devotion answers the ep titles question with a masterclass in heavyweight groove-building. its an instant cult anthem, gritty but buttery compression, warm, wet bass, driven forward by stoner-friendly organ solos and the vocal call. its a perfect afterhours gear-shifter, squelching with the sweat of one hundred thousand hours of studio jamming and countless seasons of acid. bring raw authenticity to any dj set. this is dance-floor tested, trainspotter approved.

we are happy to introduce you to the second ep from by dc salas on biologic records, the label that he co-founded and manages with the french producer abstraxion. they celebrated their 10 year anniversary at the end of 2015 and continue to release a string of eps to mark the occasion. ‘when you left’ is an ep that overcomes sadness. times can be rough, but it never lasts forever. this original material is complemented by two powerful remixes: one from the mysterious cliff lothar, who is supported by people as diverse as john talabot, delta funktionen and radiohead’s thom yorke. the second remix is done by the australian producer inkswel (bbe). this ep is an important step for the producer as he prepares his debut album ‘the unspoken’ which will be announced by biologic records in the coming months. pressing on transparent green vinyl.

troubling up with our man cliff again. be on the l00k out for very big balls in the early summer of 15.

theyre young and tough, and especially wonderful too, easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the windy city! the sets a chicago soul gem from the early 70s, recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe thats different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene, definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like the delfonics or soul generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. arrangements are great – handled by tom tom washington, eugene record, and cliff davis, very much at the best brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. the title cuts a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier sly, slick, & wicked track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called this is the lost generation, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip.

hot release! riverette is back with another reference this time produced by cliff lothar. old jams die hard #1 stands as a classic and old school release full of techno and nasty acid bass lines. warning! beware of the dance floor! want to miss this one?
