pfirter with an energy driven 5-tracker on andre kronerts odd even. pfiters lockstep drum patterns construct a hypnotic tale that reverberates with intense metallic synths into an expansive dark room sound with the endless ep. through my window starts with hollow syncopated bass driven by steady kicks. the low end and tight rhythm cause the synth pads to gasp for air in last breath. the repetitive chord stabs through the discordant ambiences while the percussion rumbles on with endless. certain is an expansive techno track that churns with machine-like precision. the chaotic synths and modulated metallic sounds hold ground with the hard kicks in release.

wrx11 comes as the more utopian follow up to the murky atmospherics of inflorescence pt1, this time brimming with intricate breakbeat acrobatics, uplifting melody and oozing bass but still with room for some icy precision creeping in at the edges.

matt edwards launches stranger in the night with his first solo material since 2017. the rekids offshoot will release regular music by four artists, namely radio slave, king britt, anthony rother and fred p, who will each drop three eps over the next year. “with rekids being 100% focused on releasing music for dance floors i felt the need to create a new platform to explore a wider musical vision and invite some of my all-time electronic musical heroes to be a part of the series,” says matt edwards. both numbers near the 12-minute mark but each track portrays a different aesthetic. opening with precision drums and crystalline notes, ‘ground control’ makes a nod towards the hi-tech soul sound of detroit and drives forward using a sultry bassline, erratic chords and the occasional icy stab as an array of contrasting sounds operate in unison. on the flip, a syncopated rhythm lays the foundation for ‘last communication’ whilst a tantalising melody joins poignant synths, constructing a profound and hypnotising journey.

unspecials follow up on the resopal label. the hanau born producer presents the result of months of extended sound research. we are inconceivably happy that he does so on resopal. with his victimized generation ep he handles his complex sound structures with inimitable nonchalant precision aiming on your brain and your feet. this release truly takes it to a higher level. groovy, percussive, tricky, elegant.

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

increasingly known for his productions as much as his storied dj sets, eric cloutier approaches the studio with the same kind of precision that marks out his club and festival appearances. on this first release on palinoia he exercises a keen sense of control over playful elements, not least on lead track “heuristic”. the nagging lead synth may hop around the mix, but it stays locked on to a thoroughly focused undercarriage of drums and low end that suits the professional techno set. “ipseity” is lighter in its demeanor thanks to some calming pad tones, but the strong structure of the track remains. the release rounds up with the slower thump of “opprobrium”, surmising cloutier’s attitude to the warm-up part of a serious, long-lasting dj set.

this year he releases two songs as a 7 inch vinyl and in digital format on hoga nord rekords. the a-side, “viaje a tenderloin” sounds like the inside of an east german military liaison in 1975 where the tabulating machines haven’t had service since the raise of the berlin wall. on the b-side “hitodoma”, guest vocalist jessica ho plays with her voice in a bubbly way above golden bugs characteristic metallic, world music influenced sounds and beats. the music would fit perfectly in a vast alien mountain landscape.
in conclusion, the music on this 7 inch is the sound of human and robot in close symbiosis - golden bug is music by robot and human for robot and human.
