as always, the return of ruede hagelstein is inevitable and with each return he ups the ante tenfold showcasing his ever growing prowess behind the studio door. it seems as if, with each ruede ep, the amount of elements utilized shrinks while at the same time the sound grows in power and dominance and that could not be better exemplified than here. consisting of two originals and a remix from the one and only martin buttrich, the ep is a gross display of well thought out, mature dance floor jewels. opening the short player is hagelsteins �dematerialize feat. justin evans where a sinister yet soothing vocal sets the tone for the entire track, laying the groundwork for a gorgeous bass drum and shimmers of distant percussion carry us into celestial spaces. �forward vision is up next and follows suit by relying on a brooding minimal groove to drive the shimmers of glistening atmospherics and sparkling sonics optimal for dizzy and delirious club moments. last but certainly not least we turn to the legend who is martin buttrich to twist the original �dematerialize feat. justin evan into a more straightforward composition with his signature stylings opening the doors of accessibility to a wider demographic of disc jockeys resulting in a track that stretches the playability to a wide range of disc jockeys

new year, new release for burnin music. after 2 strong eps in 2017 (ponty mython bm001 and leonidas +kay suzuki bm002) burnin music first release of 2018 features the first ep of an up-and-coming british artist called michael iwatsu also featuring a remix by german producer, soulphiction. fracture (original mix) is a 10 mins long journey. a beautiful odyssey between beats and harmony, between intuitive dance floor and subtle emotions. the main piano brings a perfect balance to the stomping house kick & drum. and as the journey continues, the trip develops leading to more sonic ventures. exciting, touching, pure, fracture (original mix) is a very balanced track. on the flip side, house music master soulphiction accomplishes the task to bring the track into a dark basement. his remix is a condensed version of everything that makes the original track an emotional one and also add a detroit twist: it becomes a raw, moody and very intuitive sonic object. a tool for the dancefloor.

fina records welcome jad & the for a new ep that shows off the australian-born, berlin-based producer�s majestically melodic house sound. a special dub from 6th borough project makes this another essential release. before now jad & the has served up tracks of the year (�strings that never win� - mixmag 2017), fronted four piece live act mitzi�who played alongside the likes of nile rodgers�and also produced as jad & the ladyboy, all the while picking up fans like moxie and bradley zero. sonar kollektiv and toy tonics have put out his charming sounds before and this new one is another joyous offering. the feel good �2 getha (4 eva mix)� kicks things of with old school drum breaks and loved-up vocals. big smeared pads, a new age melody and classic bassline line finish it off and carry you away to summery house heaven. �twist club� then drops into lush deep house with a long legged bassline tumbling beneath organic drums. it�s a dreamy and romantic cut before �disco hold down� has live sounding jazz drums, choppy vocals and rough edges that take you to the heart of a vibe-fulled basement party. delusions of grandeur�s 6th borough project serve up a dub that�s more stripped back and built on a big rubber bassline. jacking drums and a more rapturous vocal make it a truly steamy jam.

one of the gems on the smash hit album soulmatic , purple disco machine & boris dlugosch s, love for days gets the remix treatment three ways. first up the master kenny dope - crisping up that shuffling rhythm with some added percussion and synthesiser arps to turn what was already a peak time soulful anthem, into a close to 8 minute extended journey drawing you in more and more with each build up and breakdown. next up the pdm offers up an extended mix of the original, a welcome sight for those djs on the club scene who have been rinsing this since the album dropped last year. finally, motez takes you into raunchy, r&b tinged, garage territory, really honing in on karen hardings incredible vocals whilst incorporating brooding pads and sweeping fxs to create a special twist on the original.

for the newest release on disco halal and his solo debut on his own label, moscoman has shared one of his personal weapons with the world. the disco halal boss explains: you need to know where you came from to know where youre going. for my first original ep on disco halal, its time to go back to the middle eastern roots of the label. its a special track that has been the ace up my sleeve on countless dance floors across the globe. accompanied by my fellow travellers simple symmetry on remix duties, im proud to release this two sided work. a patented dance floor scorcher, �i ran, sees middle-eastern vocals thread their way through a lofty percussive blend, simmering up a psychedelic energy which will be turning dance-floors upside down for times to come. on the flip, trusty disco halal comrades simple symmetry, the duo responsible for �voodoo your ex, one of 2017s most rinsed anthems, spin �i ran into a chugging guitar anthem, all in cinematic twist and turns.

for our second ep, we are shifting from manila, philippines, to our other home city, bangkok, the thai kingdom�s capital. hailing from here is dott, one of three founders of more rice, a truly home grown bangkok electronic producer, dj and the talent behind mah noi ep. dott already has a number of releases under his belt and is now a regular on the asian circuit, playing gigs around the region. at 26 years old this is quite impres- sive and we are very proud to be releasing his first pressed record under more rice.
mah noi ep embodies dott�s sound, which is deep, driven and moody, whilst keeping an organic twist throughout and clearly inspired by his home country, the key to setting the release apart and making it tasty for more rice. the careful and precise placement of vintage thai samples gives it that extra flavour and mystery that can engulf the listeners and dancers, whilst the remix by eric volta truly transports you to another dimension.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit �on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

next up on francis harriss newly-founded record label kingdoms comes something very special from brooklyn-based film composer, songwriter, producer and performer leah lazonick. movimenti della luna doro (movements of the moon of gold translated from italian) is a four-track ep from one of the most exciting musicians and performers around - a beautiful quartet of contemporary classical music with a twist. lazonick is something of a polymath, having composed and conducted orchestral and electronic scores for short films and commercials as well as being a classically-trained pianist. lazonick is also a connoisseur of analog synths and vintage drum machines, and will release a second ep focussing on these passions during the course of 2018. here we are treated to three luscious works for piano and string quartet, written for a one-off performance at studio off interarts, an art gallery in montreal. the piece was performed in a forest-like immersive environment, and was originally called in a forest (a piece in three movements). lazonick performed the piano parts along with a string quartet she had assembled for the performance/recording. lazonick explains: as opposed to most of the other songs/compositions i have written, i have no concrete sentimental story behind writing this piece. the motivation, inspiration and overall idea behind composing it was of a more technical nature, attempting to relay the music in my head at its purest form, without any compromises, by primarily making use of melodic and harmonic dissonances whilst still keeping the content captivating, musical and continuous.

alex ferrazzi and matteo keemani a.k.a. blue mondays, longtime laterra friends and collaborators (with releases on sonar kollektiv, rebirth, snatch!, memento, manocalda as well), strike again. they do it, as usual, their very own way: shades of balearic flavours in there, but with a very dark and malicious twist. marvin & guy add some disco nuances (keeping it raw and obscure, though), while nick anthony simoncino delivers a solid, strict, gloomy dancefloor affair. no frills, mad quality.

what happens when a house-music icon takes a small, talented bunch of musicians and mixes it with a savory blend of jazz, funk, dance, and soul music? you get a hearty serving of e.o.l. soulfrito, who make their single debut with upright love on vega records. e.o.l. soulfrito, led by musical director and conductor louie vega, is the condensed version of vega�s elements of life live-band project, which over its tenure has released three albums, won a grammy award in 2006 for best remixed recording, non-classical (curtis mayfield, superfly (louie vega eol mix), and performed for a globally-televised audience during the 2007 superbowl pre-game show. e.o.l. soulfrito�s name is a play on the popular latin-caribbean seasoning sofrito, which serves as a nod to vega�s own puerto rican heritage. earlier this year, the band played their first show at gramps in wynwood, miami during miami music week. upright love embodies the organic energy of e.o.l. soulfrito�s live performances. with a runtime of more than ten and a half minutes, it�s a steady groover that slowly blossoms into a blissful symphony of sprightly chords, jazzy bass, crisp percussion, pattering tambourine courtesy of kat ayala, and cindy mizelle�s vocal ad-lib serenades. easygoing yet refined, the single plays out like a summer afternoon jam session between vega and his friends: axel tosca on fender rhodes & synth upright bass, josh milan on synth jazz guitar & synth percussion. start swaying those hips and let the rhythm carry you into the sunset. i wanted to create a more condensed band, since the elements of life band has ten members, it�s always been a little difficult to do smaller venues. i also wanted to create music inspired by groups and artists like war, cymande, johnny hammond, and herbie hancock�s headhunters, but with the vega e.o.l. twist and style. i then created e.o.l. soulfrito with my studio musicians and rhythm section of elements of life and nuyorican soul. i want to take this band and perform in festivals and venues like the blue note, jazz café, ronnie scots, and bb kings. e.o.l. soulfrito will bring you future grooves with a tinge of the musical landscape from our rich past, and yes, there will be experimentation get ready for it.

lee burton is the next artist on raum musik and this is his first single for our label. lee is hailing from greece and we were quite happy to receive some demo tracks of him, as he caught our attention already a while ago. his productions are more house related, but always with a nice, modern twist. his powerful sound and also his very well structured sound design could easily be described as his signature and it s definitely worth keeping an eye on him.

pablo cahn is a talented producer hailing from and currently residing in bogota, colombia. �soul rain� is his third release on cadenza, and it comes with a massive remix by the spanish don paco osuna. the original mix of pablo is a long attractive dance floor tune textured by an overwhelming bass line and a deluge of vocal grains that shapes a large number of fills and break downs all over the track. as the journey go further, a complex twist of harmonies and resonances arise from the rhythmic grounds, shining over a blissful body of beats. paco osuna�s remix recap all the rhythmic elements and shrink the vocal drizzle maintaining their relevance to the building of the track. the bare inter-twin of its relentless bass line and its stinging hi-hats works out a magnificent outbreak of the dense original tissue of chords.

brazilian label gop tun hits its fourth release with the sublime tones of tyv, building on the adventurous twist on disco and house music that has typified the label to date. lead track -miau!- is a show stopper that rides on a sumptuous arpeggio and lashings of latin percussion, infected with a sunny disposition but also reaching into a more mysterious corner of the dancefloor. lauer steps up to remix the original into a more overtly cheery version loaded with his trademark warm basslines and pads, but then tyv takes control once more for simmering b-side jam -da terra-. pitched at a more reflective time in the party, this brooding jam celebrates brazilian music culture in a wonderfully modern context.

following the success of �ride� with miss kittin, eminent sci+tec founder dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring hybrid show, dubfire is finally unleashing �dust devil�� his first solo release in several years, �dust devil� is all about precision momentum. a move that dubfire�s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. as the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back together with pure focus. this is what ali has to say� �this was an instrumental i had done that i wasn�t quite sure what to do with. it wasn�t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing, perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. so i sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the hybrid show back in the summer of 2013. once i had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. and when i happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. it was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.

it�s time for local talk to go local again with another swedish producer, eric ericsson. with numerous releases out in labels like planet e, fragile and freerange he�s one of those producers with one foot in the techno scene and another in the more soulful house scene. basically, he s not a one trick pony! for his release on local talk we would say he lands somewhere between classic chi-town house and thumping nyc house groove but without sounding too retro or washed out. its simply real house music! we begin with love it, a real bumpy house track with analogue basslines and swinging fender grooves that will work both stateside and in the european house clubs. the second track the chi is as the title suggest a homage to chicago with a slight old school boo williams fee. - dope! but thats not all, to give the release a broader twist we got man of the moment oskar offerman (berlin) to remix love it for us. oskar goes more deep with his trademark sound and gives us a dark mix that will sound amazing in your favourite berlin club of choice.

london/lisbon label release/sustain start the year as they mean to go on. presenting a 4 track various artists 12�� titled _nightfall and other stories_. the record is comprised of 4 artists the label regard as legends of that deeper dance floor sound. opening proceedings on a1 is *dekmantel* mainstay *vakula*. a regular at the release/sustain �conclave� parties and part of the rs family his offering, _809,_ is a percussive drum tool trip of a track, with sporadic raw percussion shooting shining across a positively minimalist backing. for a2, we see italian stalwart of underground dance music, *l.i.e.s* & *crème organization* regular, *simoncino*. obscure sample work, and a repeating line �i can use a friend�, twist and turn over rugged, thumping, functional drums and bass. simoncino at his best! furthering the quality of this standout 12�� is chicago house music pioneer, and *dance mania* alumini *vincent floyd*. rich in melody and familiar classic house sounds, reggie�s soft jacking house sound bring a silky smooth, north american touch to a previously rugged, european 12 slab of wax. rounding things off we have *clone*, *prime numbers* & *deep explorer* badman, *reggie dokes*. a cut riddled with percussive and quirky undertones enjoy!

this is a label that i have been meaning to start for years. however, with a possible twist of fate, it is the right time and the perfect body of music to be able to commit to vinyl. these are records that i am honoured to own and play out. a new label from bristol based artist, thrilogy (also known as lee pattison who previously recorded as deepgroove (rekids, cocoon, klang elektronik, junior boys own). expect -organic dusty sampling deep house and techno from bristol artists and friends further afield- and hand-drawn artwork by local artist anna higgie. thrilogy has previously recorded on wolf music, futureboogie and om records and look forward to an ep on omena with an exciting man power remix. also, ishmael finishes the year on a high, his debut album sometime in space (on church records) showcased the multi-instrumentalist s jazzy house cuts alongside peak time techno and chilling ambient pieces. since then ishmael has been touring his live show, as well as releasing some of the most inventive house music to come out of the uk.

pat thomas and ebo taylor are the jagger and richards of nigerian highlife. drawn together by a mutual love of the genre � and an equally intense desire to stop it becoming moribund and bereft of ideas � ghana�s two most progressive musicians added a western twist to this traditional form of african music and gave it relevance again.

benedikt frey s arresting out of here was the second entry of our blanc series. originally a vinyl-only limited release, now the track gets a fresh new treatment in the hands of two mainstays of european techno: roman flugel and simon haydo. flugel s cosmic disco drama rework lives up to its name, maintaining the noir disco spirit of the original track but infusing it with tension-building sequences and strings that give it an extra mischievous twist. our favorite frankfurter also straightens the rhythmic skeleton and adds shuffling shakers to make it a relentless dancefloor weapon. haydo s remix delves into a more dismal terrain, transforming the vocals into haunted echoes, adding esoteric synths and topping it all with razor-sharp percussion in what sounds like a storm of ice asteroids falling into a lake of steel. the 12inch comes in a beautiful sleeve featuring an exclusive illustration by barcelona-based artist pau lopez and design by arnau pi.

our french friend steven wobblejay strikes back! after the sublime shake your tingsz ep (qe 45), steve presents again some dope deep raw tunes. lots of old school flava with a new school twist! his partnership with pablo valentino as creative swing alliance (wolf music, faces, tsuba a.o.) has been a great base for developping his own style. another great talent is past, present and future quintessentials artist mat chiavaroli, who�s delivering a rugged and freestylish remix. hang out - the way we love it!
