techfui returns with another stand out 12” this summer as label founder salah sadeq delivers a refined remix package of the sought after “hibiki awa” a track which was initially released four years ago with studio companion rashed al dhaen on their “locus” release. a partnership that was built during covid restrictions, clicking directly when starting to jam, all whilst enjoying the “hibiki awa” japanese whisky during the extended sessions. for the tastemakers amongst us, it is great news that the techfui imprint continues to carry the torch, presenting sleek and classy house music for the dance floor. after many years of producing music together in bahrain and releasing music, four years on we get to appreciate the masterpiece track once more with this heavy hitting, and eclectic remix package.
ali shaheed muhammad & adrian younge keep on paying tribute to past legends and new school torchbearers alike with their jazz is dead series. limited pressing on black double vinyl.
next up on nang it is time for a slice of spot-on male vocal house and disco. liverpool based thomas lang made some fine albums in the 80s and 90s with john murphy (who went on to carve a highly successful career in movie tracks) and david hughes. somewhere in between that and a string of recent albums (“torch songs” and “the german alphabet”) he also managed to buy one of the finest recording studios in north west england, parr street studios (the “abbey road of the north”). we are pleased here at nang to see a new avenue turned in tom’s life, his first foray into the dance world. “scared” was written with late liverpool songwriter john uriel quite some time ago. it first emerged as a b-side to tom’s comeback single “august day” in 2011. here at nang we always loved the smooth and sophisticated vocal and melody. when tom suggested some remixes we were on board.
classic house torchbearer joins forces with octo octa, newbody, benny badge, the horses, sarah bates, sorcerer, ash williams, swinging & sweat in through funky new wave club mixes, freestyle r&b, mesh-top house, freeform hardware workouts & decadent disco.
scotland-born parisian paradise 100 (a.k.a. dj africa, a.k.a. graham peel) has been percolating stripped-back, bouncy-castle house constructs onto the web for a few years but never locked them in wax until now. high time. following his minimalist dictum *more than three tracks on a song is just indulgence*, his debut eps four cuts share a sleek, spare design, jigsawing slinky bass, classic keys, lean drum programming and flashes of synth mirage into fluid, aerodynamic patterns. touches of melodic acid and crossover new wave color the mood an exotic, hedonistic hue (further evinced by titles like the loin king and french kissing in the house of love). his own vision of the project is appropriately fantastical: *the image in my mind is of tropical forests at night, torchlight, distant sounds of tribal ritual dance and ghosts.* regal music for pleasure domes.

repress - keeping up the urgent pace set by the strength in numbers collection, thema now turns to a modern master of the jakbeat, d’marc cantu. hailing from ann arbor on the fringes of detroit, cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. his first appearances were alongside the mighty tadd mullinix (better known as james t. cotton) with their 2 am/fm project, before bringing traxx into the fold for the x2 venture. as a solo artist cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as crème organization, m>o>s, nation and desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. given his adventurous tendencies and punchy midwestern finish, cantu is a perfect fit on thema and the six tracks that make up this record show a great deal of the diversity the man is capable of, from dancefloor burners to atmospheric introspections
embodying a pure devotion to syncopation and dub, and carrying the torch for innovation, collaboration, and bass here in portland, gulls kicks off our new dj music label common language. we sought a record that could bravely blend techno, funk, dub, cumbia, and sound collage into one set of moves. only gulls could fulfill this mission, with bass as the glue in the collage. -eastwood bounce- and -system pools (shock version)- hold down the dub continuum, where -in these times- and -up clean sound- offer syncopated, globally minded un-techno, again run through the gulls dub blender. an endlessly chewy, layered sound is his signature, each track a showcase for contrast between glassy or globular timbres. as one of his few official gulls releases outside of his own label, we are proud to bring this definitive and complete set of tunes in a -something for everyone- 4-song ep format.
kdms, the duo made up of london singer/songwriter kathy diamond and silesian producer max skiba, return with a brilliant sophomore album of club anthems and torch songs, synthetic beats and live instruments. the new old normal, out 9th december, follows their debut album kinky dramas & magic stories on gomma.
after taking a break from his renowned av shows, and keeping original releases close to his chest since his debut album in 2012, soul has no tempo proudly present natural selections, the breathtakingly refreshing second ep from prominent producer, sampology. the relentlessly innovative brisbane native releases his best and most personal work to-date. as a torchbearer for collaborative inspiration, sampologys passion for extracting and supporting emerging talent from the depths of brisbanes evolving soul/electronic scene shines with natural selections. exposing a previously untapped side of his vast musical sphere, natural selections is an exquisite 6-track ep that delves into sampologys afro-percussive and organic influences which he has masterfully produced and laced with lush, live elements throughout.
mike witcombe joins the kindisch family, bringing along a delicate sound for a fantastic journey with his delomi ep. the title track charms both the body and the soul, with an elegantly simple track unleashing a sea of warmth with beautiful chord-work and a steady stream of organic percussion. taking the torch further, almond dives a bit deeper, and travels a bit further, hypnotizing us into the night. acid meets house meets after-hour meets pure and warm intentions to create an intricate and almost spiritual experience. next, mike witcombe and felix warmuth balance chaos and control with islagrande, representing the symbiosis between artist and machine, opening doors to realms rarely seen and inviting all to join the experience.

jimpster serves up the first single entitled crave from ahead of his forthcoming silent stars lp complete with remixes from atjazz and flabaire.in its original form crave, which features the vocals from hotly-tipped londoner florence rawlings, is an emotionally charged electronic torch song guaranteed to get inside your head from the very first listen. the spacey chords and punctuating string stabs bring hints of the 80’s to mind whilst florence’s gentle vocal floats in the air like a fresh sea breeze. in addition to the mesmerizing original we present two brilliant and contrasting remixes from one of the uk’s legendary producers atjazz as well as paris‘ rising star flabaire whose d.ko records has been dropping gem after gem since 2013. atjazz spins crave into outerspace with a fat, driving groove and twisted sonics making for an incredibly deep and forward-looking slice of aural gold. in contrast, flabaire looks back to the early 00’s for his classic soulful house rework which calls to mind the sounds of spinna and vintage naked music. closing the release we have another original track entitled where you are featuring berlin based us native khalil anthony. here we find jimpster doing what he does best, creating a sublime late night club track with his deft musical touch making this one that will stand out in the crowd
