there is a common thread that runs through all of brandt brauer fricks music. it is this: interesting things happen at the interface of machine and hand-made music. the berlin trios 2010 album, *you make me real*, fused techno and classical. the 2011 follow-up, *mr machine*, saw them go the whole classical-meets-club hog with a ten-piece ensemble playing dance music live. then, earlier this year, came *miami*, a darker, more song-based collection exploring the same man-machine ideas. the berlin trios instalment of the dj-kicks series does the same thing with a mix.
the double vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve and includes the dj kicks mix-cd.
first word records proudly presents *the misadventures of a middle man*, the new album from essa. despite being a firm fixture in uk rap for over a decade, this will be essas first full-length since 2006s *grown man business* with dj mr thing. early releases *liquid love*, *city breaks* and *dancing shoes* (under former name yungun) established him as one of the uks most insightful mcs. collabs with guru (gang starr/jazzmatazz) and praise from nas and mark ronson followed. all of this whilst pursuing a parallel career as an entertainment lawyer.

doc scott was on the decks. it was at tribal gathering (i think), 1996, standing in front of a wall of speakers to one side of the stage, enjoying myself, like you do, when this sound started growing inside my brain. my head was then ripped clean off my shoulders! words are still hard to find! it was the first time i ever heard shadow boxing and its the only thing i still remember from that night. om units 2014 remix is paired with the 1996 original.
dj support from: fabio, mark pritchard, friction, surgeon, toddla t, laurent garnier, pinch, zinc, baliey, rob both, billy nasty, krust & john b.
we were evergreen are a celebration of lifes messy magic: their world is beautiful and deep, happy the trio of fabienne, william and michael are originally french, settling in london to pursue their music four years ago, a literal movement thats been hugely influential on their fusion of the french lyrical tradition sung in english, married to a very anglo-pop sensibility.
title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.
without a doubt, manfredi romano (aka dj tennis) is a busy man. co-founder and partner of life and death, a dj with a full schedule and someone who still always has his fingers (and mind) in multiple projects and multiple places at the same time. how he juggles it (or when he sleeps) are questions best not pondered. one thing those who know him well have surely noticed is that he does it all while constantly on the move. unfazed by the constant whirl of cities that pass him by, he somehow manages to remain focused throughout. no matter where he goes, he somehow always manages to remain local.
following their acclaimed *fuck off get free we pour light on everything* released in january, thee silver mt. zion memorial orchestra dust off an old chesnut from their 2005 album horses in the sky and coat it in glitter and shards of glass, not remixes really, but brand new recordings that use set-closing live favourite -hang on to each other- as a launching point for some rather glorious dancefloor excursions. the vinyl ep includes a download code.
i d been thinking about starting a label for a few years but it never really seemed like it could work. nowadays there is more coherence in my productions it seems like the right time. i will be releasing music from other artists as well my own stuff - underground house, techno and the rest, stuff with darkness and sexiness. hopefully it is music that will speak to (somebodys) heart as well as their feet. the first release is called no splice no playback and it is two tracks of house music. vinny (flamingo) is a basement thing, suckle (twenties) works in warehouses too. thanks for reading. -mosca
the two french guys are close friends. it all started a few years ago, after meeting in an exhibition, they started making music together. and the two cronies have this thing in common, they are perfectionists. its a threat, theyve been working over and over tirelessly for years with the strong belief of getting to the right direction. doubts, convictions, stories, evolution, creativeness, discovery, hesitation for years, and now vedren & leiris have finally decided to bring out their first ep on minibar!and the story begins
disco-disco, thats the first thing that crops to mind by listening to the new album good morning made by roter & lewis for the first time. perfectly selected vocals and every track with a high talented musical arrangement make it to a life-time experience
in june 2013, above & beyond performed some of their best-loved songs acoustically with a 12-piece band, across three sold out shows at londons legendary porchester hall. the response from fans was overwhelming and led to two sold-out nights at the greek theater in los angeles in october, described by billboard magazine as one of the finest and more memorable shows in dance music history.

this various e.p start with a cosmic transmission mixed with funky beats and keys by german vinyl junky jupiter tuning center. second track by label owner petr serkin is many filtered chords and guitars, keep the same vibes. on the b side, russian musician buzz compass, already signed releases on glenview and no more hits, he delivered here a deep groovy thing with beautiful voice parts. and the final one is a very melodic tune by four walls from belarus, who already was released on kolour ltd and traxx underground.

two years after the release of her groundbreaking lp din, fay re emerges with her new exhilarating new masterwork deathwatch. treading many of the signature avant-pop and rough-and-tumble r&b tropes first heard on din, deathwatch expands the sonic palette pushing elements of drone, no wave/post-punk, and dub higher into the mix.
the sun ep is a collection of 4 outstanding tracks from artists that know a thing or two about genuine deepness. featuring ernie (minuendo /deep art sounds), natan h (ethereal sound/manmakemusic), brian james (unfocused) and owen jay & melchior sultana (moods & grooves/underground quality), bbr06 portrays the distinct batti batti sound taking the listener on a warm journey of different textures!
steve lees (the project club) above machine label returns with another superb release from acclaimed italian duo almunia their last single for am was a best-seller, and their celebrated output through paul mudd murphys claremont56 label, including the recent pulsar lp has seen the their blissful & uplifting balearic sound win over many a new follower *find my way* is a gorgeous, acoustic guitar led vocal number, conjuring up twilight beach side boogie, balmy breezes and ice cold drinks. marius circus gets to work on the b side, taking the irresistible melodies to a much later, darker dancefloor. laying a foundation of squelchy moog style bass and a toughened up rhythm track before heavily effected guitars sweep across the mix elevating the whole thing to near transcendental heights! a superb release and addition to the above machine catalogue.
people must jam follow up the superb (and instant sell-out!) floor jammers vol. 1 with an absolute surefire jam from mark seven! my caesar is an irresistibly stripped back, melodic and atmospheric workout, consisting of those crisp mark seven rhythm tracks we so love on his parkway rhythm label and a spine-tingling soul vocal sample that pulls the whole thing together perfectly before a weighty & metallic detroit style low end takes us on home. in our humble opinion - it is a future classic!
fifth single from the duo altarboy. side a:the marathon thing is slow and esoteric track with a long break in which the roman producers rise and fall of bpm. the song takes you on a world reminiscent of memory lanes horror movies. the b-side blackmail is a techno bomb with references to the early 90s. wonder wet could not be more clear than that. the sound of this label is solid as marble.
several years ago, valentin stip was sitting alone by a harbor in the small french town where his parents grew up. >i heard all the sailing strings hit the masts, and i realized that every sound you hear is potentially music,< he says. >the only thing that makes sound into music is the mind, arranging it.< since then, valentin stip has been building a bridge between the sounds that live inside and outside his head.
the name sabota comes from the infamous area in nelson bc, where kids congregate late at night to smoke weed, hook up and watch the sun come up. both max ulis and robbie slade (of humans) both have (if somewhat indirect) roots in the area, making it a fitting concept for their collaboration. with the release of next time on discobelle, sabota immediately caught the attention of journalists and fans alike, and before any kind of formal release they have played sxsw, sled island in calgary, vancouver international jazz festival with nosaj thing, and symbiosis gathering. the two full-time music collaborators have been making ethereal goodness.
nice price deal !!! to celebrate reaching this milestone, phonica records have invited some of their favourite artists to produce a track for an eclectic yet cohesive compilation, which will hopefully go some way towards sonically unfolding the ten years of phonica. split across three cds or lps.
nice price deal !!! bio rhythm seems to be spiralling deeper & deeper into the rabbit hole. six brand new tracks by villa abo (a frak side project) and his first release since the 1997 borft releases. actually the short sound clips here dont do justice. fix yourself the full-length audio package and get lost on the other side through these six little scandinavian fairy tales full of desolate techno mysticizm, pressed on 2x12inch for maximum dj delight. the spirits have spoken. sky channel is all you need! limited to 300 copies.
we welcome back one of our favorite artists, brendon moeller. this time as beat pharmacy. brenson has been releasing several records for us before, on echocord and echocord colour. on all these tracks, one thing becomes apparent, with a few simple elements and a dub approach to mixing, one can create space, movement and groove without the need to change keys. magic maybe. thank you dub manipulators of the past and present for the music and lessons. brendon has been releasing music in many years on many labels, also running his own famous steadfast label.
the fourth instalment of local talks series crosses all genres of house and have been delivered by producers from sweden, argentina, germany and finland. its a wide and complete mix of deep and thumping 4/4s. the opening track from combo loops a killer stevie sample over some mid-tempo electronic house beats its pure shuga! tim vita, oliver gehrmann and xavier hirsch does a similar thing using a big voiced motown legend together with dark but jazzy house rhythms. < finnish house legend sasse (mood music) delivers a classic deep but electronic jam that definitely sets a deep mode. we finish off with a classic us garage track from argentinian producer tom noir, a real club filler with some serious breakdowns.
just when you thought this release couldnt get any bigger... swedish techno god adam beyer rolls in with a gigantic remix for turbo, the first thing hes done for the canadian label since his stockholm mix sessions cd back in 2002.support by: michael mayer
superb collection of early 90s underground deep house classics by the legendary dub maestro mk. first up is the hard-to-find remix of terence trent d arbys >surrender< which takes d arbys soulful vocal and puts some classic mk fire underneath it to create a awesome deep house banger which received heavy rotation both in the clubs and on the airwaves. next we get one of mks best dubs - his brilliant take on the b52s >tell it like it t-i-is<, a chugging house belter which adds a haunting bass and melody to the bands expertly chopped up vocal chants. the flip side keeps up the pressure with the awesome dub mix of betty boos >thing goin on<, another of his finest dub mixes, and lastly the in-demand classic >bicycle dub< of the pet shop boys >can you forgive her<, only ever available as a limited promo but huge on the underground scene.
the world was shook by a series of evil man-eating phenomenas like the gray man, ed gein, the rostov ripper and jeffrey dahmer - but now these will face their superior master: the hannibal strikes one more and presents a 3 disq mayhem pack which will cause some serious dismemberment and bone crushing torture!
its 7am at the after-hours. youve been working the object of your affections all night. next thing, that mf paris brightledge floats in the room, whispers in their ear & takes them home right in in front of you. damn! first 300 units limited to 180g heavyweight vinyl!
opening up the release is *der groove günther*, a stripped back bit of rubbery, supple techno. the groove sure is infectious, but its the way its detailed with such curious sounds metal twangs, squelchy chords, icy hi-hats that makes it so engaging. on the remix, tinush reimagnes the track as an even weirder thing. its all about micro-evolving details, subtle and inherent funk and keen sound design that is part shiny and stiff at the same time as being elastic and bendy.
the first vinyl pressing is a limited golden seal edition!
for every producer the first album is a big thing and filled with lots of emotions and love. finally after two years of work, after their last single sugar - cocina india with a straight pumpin sweet n candy remix, lepetris album >acoustic signs< comes out on wanted beatz with full of natural sounds. inspired by his impressions, lepetri speaks in his tracks from minimal to techno about his experiences and places, such as the album name implies, an acoustic sign in the musical underground culture without losing the sense of club music. so it was important for him to bring his experience and adventures in form musical expression. from rocking beats up to melodious strings, each turntable can be served in the club. a club album which fits to each phase of a party. therefore, the first vinyl goes more towards house and the second vinyl contains more techno elements. check it out and enjoy!
razor-sharp techno mutations fresh from the mind of tom diciccio. the corner reminding you once again that techno is still a relevant and boundary-pushing art-form. peep big mike on the artwork too! take yer ringside seats for and audial pounding. strength is always the last thing to go.
from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
whiskey disco #24: this limited edition 10 inch was inspired by the 1979 cult movie, the warriors. with sound bites from the original movie and splicing of themes, sleazy mcqueen has created an ode to this timeless electronic & trippy disco soundtrack. the only thing in question is, can you dig it?!
pick a piper was conceived in 2008 along with band mates angus fraser and dan roberts, and following two eps, the band is set to release their debut self-titled debut album. the album is made up of eight very different songs, all with one thing in common: each is built upon the foundation of its own ingenious rhythm structure, with musical layers meticulously applied, up until the vocals, which are added right at the very end, if at all. song writing done back-to-front, which is also fitting in this case because: brad weber? isnt that...? yes indeed! brad is also the drummer for caribou.
the vinyl lp comes with free download code.
