5th chineurs de house series, and debut ep for this young and amazing fela from hamburg germany. this ep lays between old school deep house and lofi, the perfect compromise to either kill the dancefloor or hit the road.

toy tonics mushroom house series brings together different shades of afro-weirdo-psychedelic vibes in dance music. all tracks have been made exclusively for toy tonics. the musical range is wide: the third ep goes from arabic guitars to nubian chants and looots of percussions. the bass drum is four-on-the-floor, but switches from midtempo (kiwi: we are here) to classic new york lofi disco grooves (ponty mython) the other 2 tracks on the ep feature an emptier vibe: less toms more drum machines. more techno. red axes deliever probably one of their weirdest works. their munk rework is pure craziness. the melodies come from another space. the last track on the ep is made by old toy tonics friends from milano: the barking dogs. they teamed up with tom trago in the basement studio of the great record store they run in milan: serendeepity records. they are known for selling obscure, but classy music for dance floors and thats what they do when the make music on their own. like on your high: an obscure groove meets a sloppy bassline and stoned vocals.

chineurs de house series are made in the continuity of the eponymous facebook group. the goal is to discover and travel through all the sounds of house music and its derivatives. « cimetière du hifi » or « hifi cemetery » is focused on the lofi movement, mostly embodied by fresh and young upcoming producers like raär, slim steve and yancitygurl whom we’ve chosen to trust on this release.

crash/ almost crasch, is an acid-flavoured minimal groover for fans of minus and loco dice however in a very own style.the sg-remix and the original are stripped-down but raw pieces full of sparkling sounds based on a straight beat that makes this track a perfect tool and a peaktime - anthem at the same time! the dadableep portion adds a little bit of german flavour and takes the track more into the tech-house-corner... straight but funky.

luge is an enchanting poet out of moscow, reconciling rough western lofi patterns with light eastern zen harmonies. recommended!!

departing from the band based setup of previous releases, acolytes continue their exploration of loop based paradigms with rupture. the release expands upon the murky jarring patchwork asthetic of the 2012 release, replacing brooding song structures with a more driving, visceral and relentless sound. 200 copies. rupture encapsulates the paranoia and agnst felt in an increasingly unrecognisable world. liquified rhythms attempt to define an unmappable headspace typified by io overload and wired hyperactivity, become mired in deep delays and sedate unease. while ostensibly computer music, tracks such as -eelings 2 deviate from the clinical on the grid sensibilities associated with the genre, where out of sync drums and synth lines in eliptic orbits take it to messier lofi territories with no defined sense of shape or tempo.

mitte der neunziger setzte sich terry lee brown jr. alias norman feller an eine symbiose aus techno und house, zwei damals sich eher gegeneinander ausspielende genres. heute ist tech-house dank deutscher labels wie pokerflat, perlon oder plastic city allgegenwärtig und hat selbst dem minimal-hype der letzten jahre standgehalten. mit letzterem label ist terry lee brown jr. eng verbunden. ein großer teil seiner langen diskografie wurde dort veröffentlicht. drei alben, unzählige dj-gigs, unzählige remixe, eine eigene dj-mix-cd-serie und immer wieder auch ausflüge in trance-, downbeat- oder breakbeat-gefilde – es ist eine erfolggeschichte. sein viertes album „karambolage“ ist das erste seit sechs jahren. gewohnt sicher und feingliedrig geht mr. brown ans werk. da sitzt jeder beat, da werden saubere melodien eingewoben und die balance zwischen musikalität und funktionalität ausgelotet. zum album erschien ebenfalls eine limitierte 7“ mit einem „karambolage-edit“, einem stück, das die fixpunkte des albums in einem ganzen verschmilzt. doch keine bange, es handelt sich nicht um einen liebloses medley. die edit-version ist ein ganzer track, der den status quo von terry lee brown jr. beleuchtet.

schon 2005 gründete sich das schweizer quartett aus mitgliedern der lausanner jazz-szene. doch von anfang an lag der fokus von olivier bill (querflöte), pierre-henry beyriere (bass), marc siegenthaler (keyboards) und sylvain rütti (schlagzeug, percussion) auf den tanzflächen der clubs, ihre groovebetonte, überwiegend instrumentale musik hat neben eleganten einflüssen aus jazz, soul, funk, afrobeat und psychedelia stets auch einen knackigen einschlag von 60’s beat, garage und lofi.
auf »released!« versammeln die musiker zehn brandneue wie auch bereits auf raren 7”-singles veröffentlichte songs und remixes. echte acid jazz-freaks kennen die kracher ›wonder zebra‹ oder ›v. l.a. m. leroy burgess - one of the pioneers of boogie, a legendary figure in the nyc disco scene and all-out originator is well known by dance music aficionados across the globe for his output. his logg project from the early 80’s especially has acquired a cult status amongst diggers, released on salsoul in 1981 and boasting mixes from larry levan the lp became an instant club classic that still commands the dancefloor in 2017. salsoul is a label that isn’t afraid to bridge the gap between their hugely groundbreaking catalogue and contemporary dance music. they understand the impact and influence their music has had on dj culture and embrace it wholly. step up uk underground producer marquis hawkes who originally approached salsoul with this set of killer reworkings that had long been private versions that featured in his sets. having dropped ep’s for labels such as dixon avenue basement jams, aus music, houndstooth and many more his name is firmly planted in the minds of record fiends across the nation. adopting a classic us style of production, using analog gear, dope loops and chops and finessing it all with his own grittiness, hawkes seemed a good fit to remix 2 stellar joints from logg s catalogue. something else and i know you will both get cut up, re-edited and laced with rock solid drum programming by hawkes on this sublime 12’’. lovingly tweaked with just the right amount of rawness for the dance this one won t leave your bag anytime soon! pure peak-time sounds here, another example of salsoul embracing the sounds of now and breathing freshness into their untouchable catalogue. essential.
