after kicking off the year with releases by wheelman and general ludd, were very pleased to announce that naum gabo completes our recent trilogy of releases from glasgow based artists. alongside ivan smagghe, its no secret that optimo have been a huge influence around these parts and having released ivans smagghe & cross project on belters last year, its a huge honour to work with naum gabo - the production partnership of jonnie wilkes (jg wikes of optimo) and james savage (mastering engineer for optimo music). fittingly enough, naum gabo played live at the first ever optimo related parties we attended at the sub club back in 2005 and jonnies influential and supportive presence has been felt over the years as we started to become more involved in the glasgow scene and as the label developed. so it didnt require much thought to do this release before we had even heard these new naum gabo tracks they are absolute slammers of the highest order! really big release, bringing to our minds the likes of errorsmith. belters is a new club-focussed label brought to you by huntleys + palmers.

a year on from luigi tozzi and label head dino sabatinis collaborative manticora ep, outis return with a striking, singular solo work from tozzi. ecate ep sees the roman producer bringing three distinct slices of techno, each with its own set of subtleties and the crystal, adept sound design that defines tozzi’s work. spanning the a-side is ecate. this title track is rolling and hypnotic, with muscular, percussive bass. throughout the track, angelic chords come and go, washing the listener in euphoria. alongside, we hear a disorienting melody, grounded by the lightly swung four to the floor kick that gives this track an infectious groove. the flip opens with leto, which immediately defines itself as a club track with an unbroken but evolving set of percussion and a weighty kick. its around this kick that other elements build. we hear long, ringing, resonant string sounds, and a bell like melody morph and unfold as other percussive components come and go. the track falls away into atmospheric eeriness, which perfectly sets the stage for the eps finale. esperedes swung, panning drums give it a disorienting feeling of otherworldliness from the get go. this is before youre greeted by an alien, slightly dubbed out melody and a hanting backing drone that feels like a reference (perhaps in opposition) to the angelic chords of the eps first track. its on this closing track that tozzis delicate, expert sound design best shines through, and really has to be heard to be understood.

new yorks marcos cabral steps up for his first full release on dimensions recordings, with the nature walk ep. following on from his epic prochainement masterpiece on dimensions 002, the ep provides a glimpse into the mind of a well-established and hugely respected artist. nature walk is a broad ep that demonstrates just why marcos records have been finding their way into a multitude of djs bags for the last fifteen years. from his work with jacques renault as runaway, and his coveted hamilton dance records output to his more recent deeper and darker leanings for leading labels such as clone, l.i.e.s. and mule musiq, marcos has quietly and studiously worked at developing an impressive catalogue which most folks who have brushed with house and techno will have heard, whether they know it or not. the ep provides a snapshot of some of the tastes and styles that marcos has experimented with over the years, the rolling, energetic and optimistic sounding, not quite house, not quite techno of wishful gives way to the brooding, dub techno of title track, nature walk. cape cod sees marcos in classic, house mode with a cut that could easily have dropped on nycs nu groove records, whereas rice a roni is a no nonsense nugget of twisted, grinding, acid. the ep rounds off with lets see how the light goes through it, a spacey hypnotic workout for the late hours and a fitting end to a stand out ep from the self proclaimed, hardest working man!

what if music had no beginning, no end? can music exist for itself or of itself, without structure constraining it, defining it? can music be non-linear, non-narrative, simply experiential, existential? the second full-length album on mysteries of the deep, musica enterrada from portland’s william selman, neither answers these questions nor supposes them. but in listening, one can’t help but wonder: what if i disappeared into this record forever? in another time and place, william selman was known as warmdesk, an alias through which he issued a series of sharply precise minimal techno records. in recent past, selman shifted gears, shedding the dynamics of tension and release that characterized his previous alias output. under his own name, selman began releasing process-oriented, freeform experimental music on cassette-focused outlets like digitalis and hausu mountain. now comes musica enterrada, a diaphanous, weightless musical vision not unlike the theoretical square root of grm and popol vuhs early electronic forays. split into six tracks across two sides of vinyl, musica enterrada bubbles, churns, drifts, and dozes. dulcet tones pile up gently like waves on shore. patterns repeat and reconfigure, as if heard from different angles. rhythms appear, shift the frame, then disappear, into the ether whence they came. play musica enterrada on repeat. and if you disappear into it, fret not you have drifted into solace.

scalameriya returns to perc trax after the success of 2016’s kepslok. since then he has continued to break new ground both as a solo artist and via his ongoing collaboration with italian producer vsk, playing across europe and releasing on a number of key labels whilst growing his own genesa imprint. now for his first release of 2018 he takes a giant leap forward both musically and technically with the three track statement of intent that is his hellzone megapunk ep. each track demonstrates new techniques and approaches not heard in his music before, from the 4/4 versus broken beat cage fight of the title track to crucible s rolling polyrhythms and the otherworldly processed vocals of the closing track. as the first perc trax release of the year this ep sets out everything the label seeks to achieve, a combination of sonic innovation that manages to keep attention fully focussed on the dance floor at all times.

raw rhythm & blues out of seattle! camelot records, operated by jan kurtis skugstad from 1964 to 1966, released an astounding number of singles and even full length albums during its short time of existence. camelot is best known in collector circles for two monster releases by organist ron buford (accompanied on vocals by ural thomas on deep soul), however within their output are still some recordings which not many people have heard of yet. this is exactly the case with the two songs by johnny lewis which you find on this sweet 45rpm single. unchain my heart and i got a woman are two really nice cover versions which sound even better on this properly mastered 45 with its crispy and raw sound.

alicia myers is in peak form on a new release from most excellent unlimited and ace beat, right here right now (hallelujah anyway). originally issued by ace beat in 2015, this collaboration between the new jersey house label whose early 90s releases are still considered gospel house masterpieces and meu marks the first time the track will see vinyl release. making its debut are danny krivit s edit of the original derrick ricky nelson mix and an exciting remix from ricky, the song s composer, and danny, who championed the song from its first appearance and has featured it ever since in his sets. the connection between alicia myers and danny krivit goes back much farther than most people know. in fact, her breakout 1981 single i want to thank you,among the most beloved dance music classics of all time, was initially broken by danny when he played the promo at the paradise garage, catching larry levan s ear. when influential radio dj frankie crocker subsequently heard it featured in levan s sets, he immediately programmed it on wbls, new york s premier black fm station, and the song s legacy was assured. much like i want to thank you, right here right now perfectly blends an inspiring, gospel lyric with an impassioned, soulful vocal performance and club-ready instrumental backing featuring a muscular piano hook. the uplifting sentiment has already proven its power to elevate and unite dance floors in the communal expressions of joy that are central to the most soulful dance experiences and the time is right to spread the feeling! this exclusive release will be showcased on twelve-inch vinyl with a precise replication of the classic 90s ace beat label.

ghana s dj katapila is back with more minimalist dance music productions, this time inspired in part by his travels overseas. following the success of the re-release of his trotro recording a couple years ago, katapila has been playing in europe and the uk, bringing his style of breakneck-paced, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink west african club music into a very different conte, giving katapila (real name ishmael abbey) inspiration in the kind of music he has heard in places like london. so he made some new music, here we go!

shakarchi & straneus inhabit a secret place in the universe of music, one existing at the intersection of scandinavian poplands, hisingen forest raves and outernational placelessness. faik shakarchi and daniel stranéus famously started making beats together in the gothenburg tapas-joint coat check where they both worked as clerks. their now 10 years old friendship is the story of legends, their sparse vinyl output the secret love of deep house 12inch enthusiasts round the globe the warm, vibrant sounds found on those records a stark contrast to the stripped-down effectiveness of their marathon dj sets, frequently heard within the more nefarious examples of gbg nightlife.

laconic phrases are all about less words and more sense. we use the same principles in our stripped down grooves which are released on fresh imprint - laconica. its all about minimalistic dance-floor tools which were tested in different clubs around the world, from kyiv s closer to concrete in paris.
for a debut ep, label founder alex pervukhin presents 3 different grooves. on the a-side you can find hommie groove, which is an excellent example of a broken-beat house music with good-old airy juno pads. on b side there are two 4/4 tools: bb, which could be heard in varhat’s mix for concrete which was so hyped last year. aa is a peak-time killer with analogue chords and jackin bassline. strong minimalistic grooves - exactly what laconica is all about.

out of nowhere, here comes villee with his debut ep chock full of dancefloor gems. from the very first listen we knew we had something special that we needed to release on pressed for time. its a difficult thing to reference classic tracks and artists without sounding like a carbon copy however villee manages this with aplomb. referencing larry heard (check the chords on the inventor), cajual records, french house and the diy free party sound - we think this ep is fantastic! think warm, analogue, looped up, mpc house with swing and you re on the right track

the score introduces several new themes interwoven throughout the film, including identities for the character rose tico, the interactions between rey and luke skywalker on ahch-to island, and the resistance’s desperate escape from the first order. the score also reprises numerous themes and motifs introduced in the force awakens, including those for the characters of rey, kylo ren, poe dameron, and snoke, as well as the -march of the resistance- and -the jedi steps-. themes introduced in the original trilogy return as well, including -luke’s theme-, -leia’s theme-, -the rebel fanfare-, and the -force theme- from a new hope, -yoda’s theme-, -the imperial march-, and -han solo and the princess- from the empire strikes back, and, -luke and leia- and -the emperor’s theme- from return of the jedi. excerpts of the -tie fighter attack- cue, first heard in a new hope and reprised for return of the jedi, are also included. -the emperor’s theme- is the only returning theme to not be included within the official soundtrack presentation, it occurs in the film when snoke tortures rey for information. the score briefly quotes -aquarela do brasil- by ary barroso in its -canto bight- track as a reference to the 1985 terry gilliam film brazil. it also contains a brief quote of williams’s own theme for the long goodbye (co-composed by johnny mercer) during finn and rose’s escape, although this was not included in the official soundtrack release.

the inimitable cc:disco! has partnered with hyped underground label soothsayer to curate the first in a collaborative series of compilations entitled first light. soothsayer presents first light: volume 1 compiled by cc:disco! is due for release in february 2018 digitally and on vinyl. australias reigning champion of tasteful electronic music, cc:disco! has procured exclusive tracks from emerging and undiscovered artists across genres such as boogie, balearic, funk, disco and house with each sound piquing her interest, culminating in a finished product that would undeniably slot into a cc:disco! set. her mission statement? less chin stroking, more dancing. it captures what cc:disco! is all about: the dancefloor. the very first taste of first light comes in the form of a salty and sweet track called really want that by jace xl. premiered via resident advisor, cc:disco! explains: i remember the first time i heard jace sing in a bar, at first i thought a dj was playing then i looked up see jace singing his guts out. he blew me away! jaces voice is amazing and to me, a huge part of whats going on in australian music, so its with open arms we welcome him to first light. staub comes back on wax for a third episode. following the no name policy from the parties which started 5 years ago in it is time again for unknown artist to shine. this new ep sees the shy producer appearing on 4 tracks of pristine techno. a1 is an atmospheric trip while a2 is more brutal, on the b side it is going weirder and darker. we think unknown artist tries to craft interesting techno cuts and that he loves variety. that it is the idea behind staub since its beginnings, it does not matter whether you are a newcomer or lady gaga, what matters is the quality of the music. this is what was again aimed with this third record.

violet and bleid met last year in lisbon, at the radio quântica studios. in the very same day, they impromptu started working together on a track: a cover of underground sound of lisbon’s so get up to celebrate international womens day. together, alongside a crew of young lisbon djs and activists, they also run the queer techno party mina, one of the most vital things going on in the city’s nightlife - the picture in the artwork was taken in the backstage of one of those infamous, dark-room-equipped parties.
bleid remixed naive001’s togetherness by violet, and that dope rework made it to rroxymore’s bag (as heard at berghain) and was played on bbc radio 6, rinse fm and +++. the pair became friends, started bouncing ideas about production techniques, rap skills and the importance (or lack thereof) of the classics in dance music. making more music together happened naturally.
naive002 feels like a continuation of naive’s first release in some ways: the jungle-inspired chopped breaks, sonic synth work and oneiric pads are still there but gain a heavier, perhaps more somber tone at times, exploding into depth or ecstasy at others.

fuzzed out and psychedelic covers of rare and classic tracks performed by san francisco’s monophonics. monophonics are back with a six-song ep that fuses the complimentary and explosive soul, rock and funk influences, proving themselves to be the rightful inheritors of the bay area’s impressive psychedelic soul sound. mirrors is comprised entirely of cover tunes, except that i doubt you’ve ever heard of half the deeply funky and soulful originals that inspired these soulful, tastefully produced, and timeless monophonics treatments. “we wanted to do a couple songs that were more familiar to people and then shine some light on groups we’re big into,” lead singer, keyboardist and co-producer kelly finnigan explains. it takes a lot of guts to cover your favorite songs, your van jams, that song you play as a shot of inspiration to break-up a marathon studio session. “not only are these great songs, but these are artists that we listen to and are influenced by.”

direct from havana, cuba daptone records is proud to present the debut single by orquesta akokan. featuring some of havanas most formidable musicians playing with a groove, a tumbao, that hasn t been heard for decades, orquesta akokán is a classic mambo-inspired force of nature. mambo rapidito, a lively up-tempo one-chord vamp in the vein of prado or more, boasts an undeniable energy ripe for a freshly polished dancefloor! on the flip, un tabaco para elegua, describes a tambor (an afro-cuban religious ceremony) over a slow, bubbling groove a perfect compliment to sipping distilled sugar cane. the two massive sides offered up were recorded at the pre-revolutionary 1940s era areito studios in centro havana where the spirit of aragón, tata güines and elena burke still reverberate through the walls.

it s been a while since we last heard from flord king, who has popped up on junk yard connections as well as regularly featuring on lyssna. it s the latter label he returns to now, and he s got some focused, stripped down club fare to impart. -el klassiko- is a shuffling, funky minimal house jam with some wriggling melodies and a subby bass throb, while -avocado in blue- does a quirkier turn with some crafty synth flex that really stands out from the crowd. -bob- too is a distinctive cut with some detailed layers of dubby ripples and errant computer debris quivering and shaking over the mellow pads and steady beat. -deep diff- twists out some cheeky bass and an overall emotive mood that ends the record on a poignant tip.

black truffle is honored to present the first ever reissue of whirled music by max eastley, steve beresford, paul burwell and david toop, one of the key documents of the inventive and energetic scene around the london musicians collective in the late 1970s and early 1980s. originally released on toop’s own quartz label in 1980, the lp features a remarkable series of performances made entirely with whirled and swung instruments and objects. part of the second generations of british free improvising musicians, the prolific scene centered around the performers heard here chafed at the limitations present within the music and ideology of improvising legends such as derek bailey, evan parker, tony oxley and john stevens. where the first generations of british free improvisers often demonstrated a rigorous commitment to non-idiomatic free improvisation and instrumental virtuosity, musicians like beresford reconnected with the dada antics of figures like han bennink and surrendered to joyful musical promiscuity, gleefully disrupting expectations around ‘serious’ improvised music through quotations (of anything from betthoven to reggae) and deliberate amateurism.

paal is passionate about hardware - analog drum machines, synths and pedals are tracked through a mixing desk, raw and unedited. imperfections intrinsic to this process are essential to him and give his sound a unique character - warm, organic and, at times, lo-fi and grainy. this can be heard throughout the ep. the voi 011 also marks a shift in cover artwork as voitax departs from the utilitarian, hand-stamped labels of the first releases - german photographer nina roders, has conceptualised a series of her unique photographs for the forthcoming ten-part ep series.

mood to move ep is a six-part musical retrospect into the work of veteran japanese house producer takecha, the little-known artist has been sporadically releasing analogue house on his own gwm imprint since the mid-90s, however trouble maker had only recently discovered his works and were dying to hear more. the music he sent was far too good to remain unheard, so we twisted the little-known maestro’s arm and managed to grab a selection of six unreleased and never before heard cuts for your audio pleasure. created between 1995-2000, these musical gems were left dormant on dat tapes in takechas basement - until now! with classic house being the flavour throughout, the high-quality production and deeply-resonant synth lines of each track leave an imprint that’s hard to forget. if this is your first time hearing takecha you certainly won’t be disappointed., released on 12 inch vinyl , shrinked wrapped

house heaven on 12-inch. a lofty description, but one that fits most excellent unlimited’s latest offering perfectly. in 1990, boy george and simon rogers (the fall) made a record called “generations of love” for george’s post-culture club project, jesus loves you. legendary nyc dj and producer bruce forest was one of several big names brought in to do a set of remixes, and the better days veteran got to work on several contrasting versions of the cut. the mixes heard here, done at london’s famed olympic studios, are slices of utter ecstasy for anyone who has a taste for ‘90s deep house euphoria and ambient dancefloor excursions, but were unfortunately lost amongst the countless alternate mixes. suffice to say, meu is taking matters into our own hands and has remastered and properly packaged these tracks, directly sourced from forest himself, with the full intention to give this erstwhile dollar-record the respect it deserves. the jazz mix opens with a winding piano solo by andy whitmore (spandau ballet, terence trent d’arby, soul ii soul) that lures the listener into a hypnotic groove that could quite comfortably go on forever but here is constrained by our modesty and the 12-inch format. (a tip for the adventurous dj: flipped to 33rpm the tune becomes an epic balearic chugger, a late-night psylocibic alternative for the heads.) the synth-heavy sounds of the ambient mix on the flip side harken back to the chill-out rooms of the ‘90s but twenty-some years later bring the best kind of vintage charm.

the first and only licensed reissue of this rare 1979 two disc set rescued from obscurity by chris veltri (groove merchant records, sf) back in 2004. few have heard it till now. t.j. recorded these four tracks in the south bay, solo-style after stints in bay area bands the mysterious minds and dawn & the sunsets. this release contains two 12 inch discs with four side-long tracks housed in a beautiful 70s style matte tip-on gatefold jacket. disc one plays at 33 1/3 rpm and disc two at 45 rpm. a download card is included.

indianapolis band led by organist bobby watley (ex-lonnie smith group) and driven by his funky jack mcduff-influenced playing. discovered in march 1971, funk inc had sent bob porter a demo tape which languished in a pile of other until the producer finally got around to working his way through the whole batch. the band s tape grabbed him as soon as he heard the first notes and the rest, as they say, is history. a quintet, funk inc s constituent members were leader bobby watley on organ, eugene barr on tenor saxophone, steve weakley on guitar, jimmy munford on drums and cecil hunt on congas. watley, the leader, worked originally as a drummer, with both winston walls and lonnie smith. he switched to organ in 1969 and was heavily influenced by jack mcduff. barr played his first professional gig with little milton and then went on to lead his own band prior to joining funk inc. munford worked with artists of the calibre of etta james, jerry butler and james brown. hunt had been with the coasters as well as playing with local california bands. weakley was one of the (then) new breed of guitarists whose debt owed as much to jimi hendrix as kenny burrell.

following a succesfull 2016 with his well received eps golden tides,sunlit forest and one of our fave releases bahia, joe offers up four cuts for pleasure unit. continuing the producers passion for new age , paradasical ambience and dreamy deep house,lead title -jacaranda skies- might be what telephones and met mr heard would of sounded like had they met in rimini circa 91. a dusky atmosphere provides the backdrop to ecstacy inducing chords,an elevated brass sequence and afro percussion driving a tight groove. mangrove dawn is an aural quaalude hit, gentle synth washes fold over each other,while nature sounds buzz through a distant 303. the lost garden opens to a reverb soaked slide guitar and soaring pad section before a jaguar snarl gives way to subtle kick pattern atop m1 chimes and bali bells. skies reprise closes off the ep with a beatless take on the original, the melodies given more space the sonic equivalent of open air swaying under hazy pink skies.

mona musique returns with more delectable deep house for its second release: the debut ep from veteran dj lea lisa, featuring rich medina. consistently flying the flag for house music for over 15 years, lea lisa is one of those understated djs responsible for pushing the sound, regardless of electronic trends. a mainstay through her residencies in lyon and toulouse and integral involvement in respected record store innerdisc, lea has been cultivating her production skills for some time behind the scenes, until now. a long time friend of label boss nick v, playing each other s parties back in 2004, mona musique presents its second release walking la mona. inspired by the work of her mentor larry heard and her close friend kerri chandler, imagine that is classic house: simple, effective but above all emotive. complimented by the haunting deep tones of rich medina, his conscious spoken words echo discontentment around the current political (or global) climate. on the flip side lea reminisces of the early 90s with a revived spirit on intention. certainly one for the dancefloor, it is lea lisas subtle production work in the beats, synths and organs that make the difference here.

experimental cinema sonics, electroacoustic research practice and shadowy wind instruments come together to form this unique interpretation of the mythical city of gold. utilising rare, half forgotten soviet era synthesisers vladimir karpov creates immersive soundscapes under the name xyr. the formanta mini keytar and the alisa 1377 lend karpovs music strange, seldom heard atmospheres which the st. petersburg native then combines with field recordings, toy percussion and wood flute to further build upon his utopian narratives. part concept album, part nod to popol vuh, his attempt to channel the thematics of the ancient tale of the muisca people through his modest home studio left a lasting impression on us here at 12th isle and were proud to present a selection of the tracks on vinyl for the very first time. originally confined to just 25 cassette tapes, for this edition we have assembled some of the most inspiring tracks from the sessions as well as the bonus closing piece aguirre song. immediately engaging, sincerely heartfelt and strikingly original, these are recordings we have returned to time and time again. limited edition lp comes housed in screenprinted sleeve. el dorado recorded april-august 2014, originally released via illuminated paths (march 2015).

ultramajic came into the possession of meticulously dated tapes from 1995 -1998 with sharpie inscription ashtar lavanda. we had never heard this name and google search didnt bring back many results. we had uncovered a hidden treasure of detroit electro. the ashtar lavanda tapes led us on a journey to find out who the producer behind the sound was, and furthermore how did this music never get released?

the album is titled timespan and is by the veteran pittsburgh artist shawn rudiman and will be released on november 24th worldwide on 2xlp and digital. the album is a carefully curated journey through almost 20 years of shawn s music productions. the tracks collected here--the majority of which have not been heard outside of shawn s studio--showcase a producer with seldom matched knowledge of studio techniques, while also hinting at his world renowned live performances. having access to a vault of hundreds of unreleased compositions, we believe this is an important step in documenting shawn s contribution to pittsburgh and american dance music. * artist statement: -all of these tracks are simply snapshots of my life moments. they go from base-level warehouse to more cerebral sophistication. so, take them as such. timespan sums it up well. some songs are almost 2 decades old, some are fresh. it s a paragraph written with words that have years between them. somehow they still all sort of make sense together.- - shawn rudiman

this split lp compiles the output of two closely related bands from, as suggested by the title, the hot, humid and (at the time) socially isolated city of brisbane, australia – an unlikely location for synth-pop and new wave music during the 1980s. prod & the moonbaby were a high school duo experimenting with tape loops, cheap electronics and primitive sampling.. the result is certainly lo-fi, light-hearted and naive, but also charming and the music belies the young age of the musicians. ash in october was in many ways a logical progression of prod & the moonbaby and shared some of the same personnel, but also added some new wave influence through extra instrumentation and more serious, considered lyrics. most of these tracks have never been heard before outside a handful of self-distributed tapes and this compilation was compiled over several years by the artists in collaboration with hysteric and nick mariano (crispy nuggets).

this is the 5th release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. here are 12 artists (the horrorist, paul birken, neil landstrumm, cannibal cooking club, nomad, durkit, dez williams, martyn hare, cymbol, binny, morphamish and lado) each with a wicked track for the first of many sampler lp’s on riot. it’s named a sampler because it is just that, a sample of the various artists and forms of techno that can be heard on our fortnightly riot radio show and also of what’s to come on the label from each of the artists featuring on the lp. that’s because each artist appearing on this lp will be delivering you their own individual release on the label, with each one featuring brand new original tracks and additional solid remixes by various exceptionally talented artists.

before his debut studio full-length, dubbyman racked up a remarkable discography of dance singles and remixes. he has been away for a little while, but his new 10-tracker album is the perfect tool for him to make his anticipated return. -deep is dead- is a fascinating mix of organic and synthetic, past and present, smoothness and eclectic, darkness and brightness. the spanish producer has veered away from those dub-heavy and dark atmospheric deep stylings, and instead has ventured into much classic house and musically territory. almost all songs are soaked in warm chords, dreamy leads and gripping melodies. dubbyman also offers an immense and stunning roster of credits and guest musicians such as kuniyuki takahashi, leo gunn and george btp aka allstarr motomusic, just to mention a few.

in the spirit of cultural pride, rune lindbaek provides the audio tour guide into the unexplored back streets of norwegian disco his deep knowledge of disco delicacies from the frozen north may be a revelation to those who ve heard his more mediterranean outings, however here we have an extended ep on untapped treats, leading with three hefty slabs of late seventies, matured brunost on the a & moving into more obscure territory on the flip, where the sought after i dekning is followed by two more idiosyncratic jams, which possess the dancefloor heft of a well roasted reindeer shank super limited ! .

for house heads of a certain persuasion, dj duke is a name that resonates for all the right reasons. the u.s. veteran has been responsible for some of the 90’s most seminal moments, chiefly through tracks such as 12 minutes to do it (under his pleasure dome alias), party time and the prosumer-endorsed deep house classic, heard. he returns here courtesy of emerging imprint solo werks, who host his latest ep, green pastures. a momentous house-led workout, it compounds duke’s reputation as a producer of considerable panache while also acting as an auspicious start to life for the dublin based label. the title track is a grainy, old-school cut that bears all the hallmarks of a dusty analogue-jam and harks back to the days of vintage chicago with the sort of zest you’d expect from a man of duke’s credentials. the other original, skyscapes, is packed to the brim with industrial motifs and is characterised by the sort of effortlessly catchy baseline with which duke has made his name. mysterious and ethereal, it takes the listener on an uncompromising and throughly captivating house journey from the off. on the flip side, we have two stunning remixes, the first of which arrives from new jersey don, ruben candelario aka nicuri. a long-time favourite of nyc-based producers a la joey anderson, nicuri turns green pastures into a dreamy, acid-led space, adding layers of suspense and a glittering vocal intto the mix as he goes. last but not least are dublin-based producers slowburn, who serve up a stunning version of skyscapes. a carefully construed voyage into the deep, it caps off a fine ep with some aplomb.

very limited repress. you re forgiven if you ve never heard of discret popescu, neither did we, until we started digging a bit deeper. mr. popescu comes from palinka-land, a quiet place where nothing out of the ordinary happens very often. perhaps that s why he s developed such an interesting and groovy approach to his music. digging a bit deeper into his background, it came as no surprise that discret popescu is in fact, the ying to alin crihans yang, the lighter more playful side of his sonic universe.

we have encountered ice dog during one sunny belgrade afternoon while he was chasing what he was calling fish (actually slavic seniors transformed into dolphins and dolphin is not a fish). he might or might not told us the fore-coming story: a man complains of being hungry. all the time. dogs it seems are never hungry. so the man decides to become a dog. to be a dog one must walk on all fours. the hero decides to wear shoes on his hands only to discover that there is no hand left to tie the laces on the fourth shoe. what does a shoe-shod dog tie laces with? its mouth. organ by organ the man becomes a dog. one lace at a time his record transformed us into a new type of misunderstood creatures. most of the tracks are surprisingly fast and playable yet broken while others are groovy however noisy. i am pretty sure you havent heard anything like it before. but what do i know i’m a fish.
