stephin merritt (born february 9, 1966 is an american singer-songwriter based in los angeles (formerly in new york city), best known as the principal singer and songwriter in the band the magnetic fields. he is known for his distinctive and untrained bass voice.

for this first release, we give you the opportunity to grab 4 fantastic trax done by legendary detroit producer : jason grove. born in detroit, he started his career in the late 80s, dj-ing in underground parties when the techno house movement was just at the beginning. he was invited few times on detroit local stations such as wdrq & wjlb to play. some said he was at that time very close to the >wizard<, helping producing their first tracks with anthony srock as final cut. he had many opportunities during the 90s to release some of his work on various prestigious labels, however, as the guy is really hardcore & straight edge, he prefered to continue producing only with analog gears (dont ever speak to him about a computer or hell get mad !) & record his work on cassette only, selling it to indie stores & giving it to friends for some special events (birthday, graduation ect ... !). we heard this story long times ago & it was only when we were in l.a. last year at pooh-bah record shop that we finally managed to get our hands on one of those tapes (one from june 1991 & the other one done in october 1992) with some of the best & incredible music we ve heard in years, it sounded like kerri chandler before kerri chandler did even start to release any tracks ! those first tapes are finally available after a hiatus of more than 15 years on vynil only (!)

this time they bring to the table 2 of the most rolling smashing tunes from the benefit camp. whats good about social music is that it has space and head room for you to mix the tune nicely in whatever way shape or form you choose. if you want to bashment switch it you can, or you want to use it for dd (double dropping) its there for you to do so or even roll out the mix. and the m.cs dont need to fight against the frequencies they can just do their thing without struggling.

the classic music company by luke solomon & derrick carter continue to play the game under their own conditions. as a label it never died it just retreated for a while in order to come back stronger. all hail the king because the king is back. long live classic!

after his recent excursion remixing groove armada, morton sorenson returns to the fold with a stunning little release for tirk titled >the burn down ep.< for those that dont know, morten is in his early twenties and hails from a small fishing village in rural norway. his dad probably spent many years in new york and the records that he brought back encouraged a love of american house and disco on the impressionable morton. >burn down (original)’ is an exercise in uplifting, stripped back house music. less is more here, the vibe stays rich and never loosens its grip. the rhythms skip on top of the beat and the vocal interludes make for a real vivid experience. the lpz remix on the other hand sits back a bit, the rhythms are solidly swung and the vocal appears more affluently in the mix. it feels smooth and definitely cool. to top the package, were served up some chi-town flavours with <owe that 2 u.< sustained strings and a slo-mo shuffle builds, then peels away to a hollowed out organ breakdown. a hauntingly affected vocal and clever edits ensue then drop back into the beat, articulated now by the clack of a tough stacatto synth. in our eyes, a brilliant end to a fantastic package
