dj roc, known to his mother as clarence johnson, was born and raised on the southside of chicago better known as the low end. the crack in >crack capone< refers to his style of production. like an underground chemist, dj roc produces variant strains of chicago juke music, the crack referring to the synapse snapping, potentially ankle cracking manipulation of rhythms and the sampling, hijacking and ultra-rhythmic micro-editing of black american pops dominant forms into a style thats been developed and tested on the streets of chicago.

i dont think i know, or heard of, anyone who share the same obsession in searching obscure disco records like kool dj dust (real name daniel savio). call him at any given time and he is in some flee market or second hand shop on the look-out for records. he even got an apartment just for his collection.
we talked about the idea of re-releasing >un-googable< music, old stuff that is not only very hard to find, but also so good that re-issueing it is an actual cultural necessity. dust tossed around with a few ideas and finally these three songs made the cut. we are very happy with them!

as someone that wears many hats, including dj, labelowner, producer and radio presenter, anja schneider has certainly been juggling them all very successfully this year. currently on a busy touring schedule in south america celebrating five years of mobilee records, before leaving for the road she also put aside some time to get back in the studio and produce a brand new ep, mobilee072 pushin. whilst she worked on her most recent productions such as ithought and something left with kiki, and also shinkansen with lee van dowski, this time she partnered once again with paul brtschitsch, with whom she co-produced her debut lp beyond the valley in 2008. famed for playing dj-sets that always come with a powerful bass and sexy groove, pushin is the perfect production equivalent of anja schneiders club performance. the title track comes with a soulful vocal, whilst a2 >strong way< is intended as a female interpretation of the same track. meanwhile, b1 >i dont feel anything< takes you on an eery ride with whispered utterances. enjoy!

roman iv is roman flügel. surely, you dont need us to sing you the praise of his various styles. under his roman iv moniker, he always pursued his more contemplative dance floor side. la paloma is exactly that kind of perpetual and lulling marathon jam that recollects his testament tracks (check playhouse and ladomat for further listening) and needs to be followed all the way through. having said that, sa caleta looks for a more immediate hit. with a rigid punch and some greasy layers, you get romans take on the current or recurrent slow motion disco craze. straightened out and cut right to the chase. finally, lucy rolls over again, starts where la paloma ended and makes its way up to a subliminal hookline. for all you digi kids: look for the bonus beat mix tool supreme called 123 bpm. roman iv president

>les patates<, the fresh new rrygular release by tassilo, one half of pan-pot, is not an homage to french agriculture but a serious techno smasher with high club potential. at first, theres just a nice party atmosphere and … then this rough beat drops in! the small potatoe >petite patate< surprises by adding rudimental elements like the hihat and snare drum always a little late. but you have the feeling you havent missed something yet. this number just sneaks from behind and lulls you in with billowing pads until you sense the final rave sound as a self-evident consequence of it all. the message by g-tech right before the drop proves right - there is not a lack of vibration here! its all about the mixture … and in this case its just felicitous: male choir, clanking cymbals and finally the riff that this track subsists on. tassilo knows how to send the short melody-figure through the different stages of sound design, even though it might have been lively enough without it. this gives the big potatoe >grosse patate< a level of dynamic, that most contemporary techno releases just dont provide.

born in romania in 1981, mihai popoviciu is one of the most talked about newcomers in the house and techno scene. but to call him a newcomer is a misnomer. mihai has been releasing quality music for years, on labels such as gigolo, level non zero, brise, diynamic and, of course, highgrade. since 2007 he has sworn allegiance to the highgrade flag, either alone or with production partner markus homm. he always has the ability to surprise with his music tracks produced straight to the point with no unnecessary fluff – just the uninhibited thrill and euphoria of dancing seems to empower his work. after a busy summer season playing in the clubs of europe, he is now back to work in the studio. and so comes >trapped in brakets< with three brilliant club tracks of outstanding quality, custom made for the dance floor. if you dont believe us youll have to hear them for yourself. turn up the volume and close your eyes! for those who still want more, mihai popoviciu will be releasing his debut album in may 2011 on highgrade records. time to get excited and warm up the legs for maximum dance floor effect!
