over the past years bézier has seen releases under the dark entries record imprint with the most recent telomeres ep this year. the title track 皆,,,, or pronounced * mina* translates from japanese to * everyone*. mina is a journey through space with the initial ascent marked by a moody window of time in which uncertainty dominates the mindset of the passengers. once they break through the atmosphere and are proceeding as planned they land on the final destination, an interplanetary discotheque. mina was recorded this year with mark pistel on the helms for mixing and features sf drummer kevin woodruff of tussle fame providing live drumming for the last portion of the track. along with the title track the b-side includes tracks previously released on compilations but appear here for maximum record playing enjoyment. * serengeti drive* which appeared on honey soundsystems earlier hnytrx compilation of queer dancefloor artists is the slow burner of the group. * mysteries of the deep* which appeared in the jacktone cassette compilation of bay area electronic stars is the soundtrack to an underwater expedition. both tracks were recorded, produced and mixed by robert in his home sf studio in 2009.

the a&r edits return with a double-header from hot digits head honcho fingerman. the brighton producer grew up listening to his parents enviable steely dan record collection and for his comeback outing on a&r has retouched the de la soul-sampled classic, peg. a tight circle of djs have road tested this rework over recent times and we ve been inundated with requests for its release. in 1970, new york session drummer bill curtis merged the fatback jazz beat of new orleans into a street funk band and signed his outfit to perception records. over the next decade, they incorporated jazz and disco into their signature funk style, before moving in an r&b direction in the 80s. during this period, american pop success proved elusive, but the group made regular appearances in the uk singles chart, hitting the top twenty three times with (are you ready) do the bus stop , (do the) spanish hustle and i found lovin it s the latter, an anthem on the uk black music scene in 1984, that has been served up here by fingerman, a staple at his casablanca jazz club residency in brighton and now available on wax for the first time.

uk techno founders b12 return! the duos history famously started in the early 90s with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the b12 records umbrella - 12 inch vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on warp. after a hiatus in the late 90s, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12 inches and a 7-part cd anthology. they then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on glaswegian imprint soma. f.s. blumm aka frank schültge from berlin has been making marvelous music for many years now. be it solo like on his latest album (pingipung in 2013) as part of the subtle folk-duo -bobby & blumm- or as a sound- scape researcher at the side of nils frahm. but even though f.s. blummbastic sees the light of day for the very first time in this release, the combina- tion of dub and blumm is not new: he is part of the quasi dub development (qdd). the collective around blumm and luca fadda from new york recently released the album -little-twister vs stiff-neck- with features by lee scratch perry or lady ann on pingipung in 2014. these -riddims and biscuits- came to live during the creation of material for future qdd-concerts. f.s. blummbastic played all instruments himself, rhythm guitar, organ and of course bass to send the results the the colleagues in new york. soon it was clear: these riddims have the most impact in their reduced form. theyd like to stand alone and get played back loudly. for the drums f.s. blummbastic brought helmut erler aka hey from hey-Ø-hansen into the qdd cosmos. not only did he bang the drums, but he has also mixed, mastered and cut the vinyl of this album.

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new revisted version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octas melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, its gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

FACE A/B

28.08.15
where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip
heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas
there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

geneve based pascal viscardi bring his rich and sweltering textures to saft with his first ep for the spanish label. the swiss producers paradiso ep is already the 9th installment and by no means an odd addition to the family. strongly rooted in soulful sounds with firm aesthetics and blissful melodies, this release is exactly what saft is all about. from the moment the pad in the title track starts riding, paradiso immediately hints to a deserted paradise.
tales from the emax (a2) is a groove laden anthem that will soothe those that are into soulful but firm sounds. on the b side, we find remix work of both originals. swiss house stalwart agnes stirs things up with his thriving rework of paradiso called la charme chambertin mixx. on the b2 cut we find saft familiar jefferson belmondo with a cracking rework of the title track *paradiso* called beach mix. 4 strong, groove-laden cuts that celebrate the saft sound like never before.
