glasgow based producer, galaxian, is set to drop the 11th release of helena hauff s return to disorder imprint. paradise engineering is an ambitiously psychedelic piece of machine mastery that will be right at home on hauffs label, with which she set out to bring punk rock and techno together in 2015. the label s name refers to the reactionary post-ww1 art movement, return to order, which called for a rejection of the avant-garde in favor of conservatism and classicism. return to disorder has embraced experimentation and genre bending with releases from the likes of children of leir, morah and umwelt. galaxian s proximity to the sharp edge of quantum chaos and belief in the anarchism of nature make him a fitting addition to the hamburg based label.

radio slave’s colossal ‘the revenge’ track now gets expert remix treatment from klasse wrecks label head luca lozano. luca has also released on the likes of optimo, sex tags ufo and unknown to the unknown and brings a raw, acid tinged sound to his beats. as a performer lozano’s versatile dj sets span between raw house, cosmic disco and dynamic breakbeat selections, which is why he’s become a regular at key clubs across europe and tasteful festivals like houghton. his ‘how bow dis’ remix’ is solid and features wild old school flavours in its huge drum breaks, a monstrous bassline and dark filtered vocals. it bangs for seven superbly heavy minutes with plenty of twists and turns along the way, and will transform any club or warehouse into a writhing, sweaty mass in seconds. on the flip, his ‘how bow dah’’ version is based around elastic drums and rumbling bass while a loose synth line darts about up top. some distant synths bring a sense of serenity to the madness and so despite the physical impact of this one, it also has real emotion to it.

bugs is aus label owner will sauls first solo ep in over 4 years and follows his inaugural release on new aus compilation series, inside out. heres will on the a side. bugs is inspired as much by dancing at plastic people/co-op to the bugz in the attic as is it is by carl craigs innerzone orchestra track bugs in the bass bin. hopefully i bring my own twist to these key influences. the map room tumbles with big, swinging drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout before matt karmill takes bugs off on a linear dubbed out excursion to complete the package.

making his debut on the label, spanish producer kuo climax is welcomed to the hot creations fold. a solid two track release that has already been heating up dancefloors across the globe, the talented artist showcases his distinct style and proves why he is hotly tipped for 2018. the ep opens up with whyte, a pulsating track with a warped bassline and oozing synths. two and a half minutes deep it disperses into a breakbeat-esque breakdown that dives back into the familiar 4/4 beat. title track nacrem is a smooth roller with an underpinning bass and intergalactic vocal stabs. the ep highlights the spanish producer’s ability to bring balance to his output, providing music perfectly attuned for the floor. born in malaga and now residing in barcelona, kuo climax has released on respected labels such as knee deep in sound, solid grooves and viva music. 2018 will see the producer launch his own vinyl-only imprint, lfofl, that aims to recognise the progress in technology without losing the essence of true dance music.

after putting out kito jempere s well received sea monsters album last year, hell yeah now serve up another selection of remixes of it. accomplished musician jimi tenor, plus miskotom and max essa all contribute before a 7inch, also taken from the album, lands later in summer. first up is jimi tenor, the legndary finnish musician who has released on warp, collaborated with tony allen and has his own band as well as occasionally playing sax with kito jempere band at live gigs. he flips puzzled into five minutes of stripped back and moody electronics with plenty of his own flute playing in the track. busted drum sounds, spooky sci-fi synths and scattered hits make it woozy and late night and utterly absorbing. miskotom—a newly emerging pair made up of mik and his wife andra, both based in vilnius, lithuania with credits on pleasure unit and balearic —then reimagine ampa as a beatdown but of deep house with trudging drums staying low and shimmering synths drift out in all directions. crunchy hits bring a subtle sense of funk and reverb drenched vocals bring a heavenly feel to the soul drenched grooves and summery keys. then comes max essa, the japan based brit who is a regular on this label as well as the likes of is it balearic?. his first remix is a huge one that is sure to soundtrack many a boat party this summer. it s a gorgeous rework of ampa that puts achingly blissful vocals front and centre as low slung bass and slowly turning drums sink you into a pan-pipe laced reverie. secondly, essa offers a dub reprise that removes the vocals and places all the focus on his churning drums and new age grooves. this is another perfect package of masterfully electronic horizontal sounds.

after 7 releases, rivulet records says goodbye. the very last release comes from cofounder stanley schmidt in collaboration with his long time friend hobor. the two leipzig based artists had the idea to release an album together for years and to finally bring the work to an end as well as to the label felt just right. the album itself ranges from eerie and otherworldy ambient tracks to banging lofi-jungle sounds. it mirrors the musical taste and exchange of the two artists. listen to it at home in full length, or play it in the club when the time is right – it works both. rivulet records says thank you to all the artists, dancers, listeners and friends. it has been great. leipzig, 2018

word of advice to funk lovers, there is not a minute to lose. get on board of the big hustle’s spaceship. before we take off, let s do a little history. the band was founded in 2014 by bass player and composer sébastien levanneur and its aim is to bring together 70 s old school funk with the hippest actual sound laced with influences spanning from steely dan and headhunters, to snarky puppy and soulive. with mighty horn players, a rock and funky rhythm section, the big hustle s music has a very large variety of soundscapes. the first destination takes us to the washington, d.c. area with “turn up”. the groove is clearly go-go music flavored with the trademark sound of cowbells and of course it reminds us of zapp by the use of the talk box on lead vocals, performed here by saad el garrab. and don t miss out shaun martin (snarky puppy, erykah badu, kirk franklin amongst others) as a very special guest performing the talk box solo! second stop is “a curse, a blessing”. it’s an instrumental very much in the freddie hubbard vein during his cti years. the last leg of the a side ends with an instrumental interlude titled “flying donut”. double tribute to jay dee and flying lotus, the music is a simple hip hop loop based on samples. the b side takes us back into the past with two brilliant covers, involving rod temperton the late great british songwriter who scored some of michael jackson s biggest hits. now the idea for this b side is to do the opposite approach from the a side. taking 70 s and 80 s original music and make them travel into time to 2018. we first land with a heatwave song named “the star of a story” from their 1976 central heating album. track 2 is a herbie hancock song named “gettin to the good part” from his 1982 lite me up lp. this time traveler ep journey ends with an interlude. called “gimme dat”, the song deals with the need of new music, new sound. again, this blend of deep rooted funk laced with a contemporary edge is to be consumed without moderation. and do not forget that e.p. also stands for extended pleasure.

the sixth release from the london-based sugarhouse imprint sees tekboys (label heads maurice jnr, jamie paul and seb miguel) bring forth a 4-tracker built for the floor. it’s already seen support from the likes of alex nut, bradley zero and bicep, amongst others, and looks primed to set alight basements and beach stages alike this summer. originating in 2015 with the much loved ‘magic mountain ep’ this low key, diy label has quietly been releasing hit after hit. alongside their much-coveted white label imprint ‘bouncin’, the guys from sugarhouse have picked up an impressive fanbase including bradley zero, alex nut, four tet, patrice scott, prosumer, kai alce and hunee to name just a few.

the producer crew around footjob completes catalogue number 12 with the first ever label-sampler, highlighting their love for a variety of styles. le rubrique starts the journey with an afro disco banger, followed by a funky piano piece from phonk d and the jazz formation triorität for all the old school lovers out there. the flipside continues with an extraordinary dancefloor filler by lukas lehmann and the labels own supergroup pallaspeople. on the last track sascha ciminiera takes us into the deepness of meditative house music with a sexy sax line. you better cop that!

rhyw is alex tsiridis aka one half of cassegrain. on this, his solo debut for arcing seas, his smoul-dering alien techno sound manifesto continues to thrive over three unique tracks. the morphing, deconstructed acid of unpunishable - a molten statement of lusty intent - strikes first in a heady, hazy pummelling of doom-funk. ‘vertisol pushes crisp and dry snaking percussion through an anechoic chamber, the bass end neatly warming at first then burning hard through your mid section. an icy cold shot of ‘aqua velva is the final offering - a pushing sub-level trip through rhyws private domain - where tingling rushes of bass and static charges wash over us leaving a sinful residue. arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together

verdant recordings 3rd ep is a collaboration between the rising talent aos and sonitus eco. a debut release on vinyl for aos who has previously released digitally on blankstairs with the enchanting 90 east minialbum. sonitus eco should be well know for his own harr label and for his majestic ambient and dub techno projects with silent season. on this release both bring their love of deep atmospheric and melodic techno for two original works which are then reconstructed by each other. its fascinating to hear how these tracks reshape the original signatures. an ep that reaches for the stars and yet is subtly introspective and melancholy. 180g pressing an once again the artwork features the beautiful colours of sophie o leary.

discobar re-launches in search of other galaxies with its second outing from toulouse-based duo zendid. they take us on three voyages through the electro-infused house grooves they made their name with, while still finding time to bring in mayaan nidaam for a remix. space has us seeing stars right from the start, with an alien menagerie conversing over a strict-form beat. the bassline on virgin virgin is big enough to give you butterflies, tempered by stellar synths and wordless vocal clips. berlin 6 takes the bass for a lighter walk and finally, mayaan nidam remixes space into a nebulous and reflective place, pads breaking through the thick atmosphere mid-track for a moment of zero gravity meditation.
