you probably don t know this disco banger, i think there is about 4 or 5 known copies on 7inch, everyone who has a copy has been keeping it quiet. i first heard it from david haffner about 4 years ago and had been after it since then. after a lot of research i came to the conclusion the everyone involved had passed away, but months after giving up after i spotted benitas full name on another related lp credited as a backing singer. i was then able to track down benita who was alive, well and surprised and very happy to hear from me. this one is a beast and will fly out (i find myself saying this far to often).

the collaboration between the italian label and the two techno producers, follows a meeting in nyc between out-er co-founder simone gatto at the producers headquarter gatto always appreciated the artists musical peculiarity and, generally, supports distorted electronic sounds, which anyway already found space on the label�s previous releases thanks to the efforts of the analogue cops, christopher rau and marieu.

iron curtis back catalogue is a formidable beast within the realms of deep and tech house, touching on labels like morris audio, jackoff, sudden drop and mule electronique. he s intermittently popped up on hudd traxx as well, and he returns with a fulsome new ep that hints at a forthcoming second part.lights- is a bold, chiseled peak timer with some emphatic string stabs coursing through it, while captured takes a slinkier route without dulling the impact of the curtis studio approach. 22 days is a funkier concern that lets the low end synths do the brunt of the work, and then my humming machines rounds the ep off with a warm and bubbling deep house roller for a cosier part of the night.

if psychic health s self-titled debut album took the lessons the la duo learned in the teeming clubs of berlin and melbourne, their latest lp, exclusion, look inward, a document of the duo tunneling down the studio wormhole. as such, exclusion is a remarkably dynamic effort, adeptly jumping between evocative ambience (-jamaica 88,- -ryso-) and equally expansive dance floor fair. examples of the latter, such as the album s obvious centerpiece and titular track, exclusion, document gabriel mounsey and devon steffens�s harnessing modular beast technology for peak techno utility, finding a clear thoroughfare between the soaring strings of derrick may s classic transmat releases and ostgut ton s current ebm-inflected precision. as you d expect from mounsey s background in film composition, exclusion whirls with imagery. it s a los angeles album, but focuses on raw beauty of the city at night�the lights in the distance, and the desolate downtown streets where kickdrums often waft from disused warehouses. while their debut album opened notable doors for the group, landing distribution from hard wax and featuring in the netflix series sense8, exclusion is an altogether masterful turn for psychic health, their complete studio immersion easing the listener into deeply hypnotic states.

man power has proven on many occasions to be adept at all manner of different moods within the hardware house canon, but on this occasion hes particularly focusing on creating an exotic feeling out of mechanical means. tropical bastard is a fitting title for this project for not an animal records, with the original steeped in driving patterns of rhythm and melody that approximate a flavour of far flung lands while mutating the feeling into something more club-minded. lord of the isles goes one step further with a remix that ramps the modulation up to devilishly wonky levels. tropical bastard 2inch is an entirely different beast that plays on a cinematic vision of tropical escape, but with an acid thread pulsing through it. then the frank butters remix finishes the ep off with a more submerged, but equally mischievous take.

(uk), night people (us) + rhythm works (au), roman nails has maintained a steady flow of experimental techno over the last few years. utilising a minimal, cv-triggered hardware set-up and from a perspective rooted in improvisation, rn is a unique beast. the tongue-in-cheek titled, all hardware no tools, is his most concise and well-considered release to date, offering noirish synth tones, slinking basslines and captivating interplay between a 707 and 727. 300 copies.

�eagles & butterflies has taken storm in electronic wonderland - boiler room arpeggiator was originally titled 14 minutes of arps and its exactly that. its one of the simplest tracks iv ever made with probably only 8 layers that your weaves in and out the whole way through, really love the subtleness of this track where at the same time it is also a beast! oyeme is maybe the e&b sound people are familiar with, big marimba melodies, fat sub and rolling hats with a big break, love this one prophet was originally just an experiment when i purchased a prophet 6, its a little crazy and pretty full on, love the funky bass in the one from the sh 101. all the parts for this where recorded in a few takes live and two whole track was made in 2 hours!

folding citys debut on through these eyes is charged with exerting drum rhythms and high-energy movement throughout. the a-side enthralls with psychedelic string plucks and silky smooth, even trance-inducing arrangement. livid percussive movements, powdered with delays and tribal grooves, are creatively used - as well as haunting, emotive pads. �museling� is a different beast to witness, starting off with hypnotic arpeggios and taunting, grimy vocals, anticipating the impact. swift hi-hats race along an intensely stomping bass-line, pervaded with gritty but fluid motion - resulting in extraordinarily energetic music. the two-sided single elegantly shares the same signature sound, each track complementing the other.

dubfire and miss kittin have scored another big hit in the form of their second collaboration ride, the follow-up to the much-loved anthem exit. now, many destroyed dancefloors later and they�re unleashing a big pack of remixes to sit alongside their two original versions. solomun may best known for big melodies and hooks, but his remix boldly displays his affinity for heads down techno. a beast of a track, it centers around ticking percussion and pulsating synth delays with a throbbing low end. minimal in approach, maximal in aesthetic, it�s a no-nonsense groove. matthew dear dons his audion guise to remind us how instrumental he was in formulating that oddball techno sound a decade ago, making good use of the vocals in the heady breakdowns and matching them with unsettlingly wavering synth sirens and an almost tribal bass stomp. it�s full of atmospheric touches and pulls off a big room feel without resorting to cliches. depeche mode, erasure and yazoo legend vince clarke is a personal hero of dubfire�s, making his appearance on this package all the more of a special, rare treat. his chunky house groove is decked out with rolling congas, electro arpeggios and a yearning, bluesy guitar lick. french star djedjotronic has himself remixed depeche mode, and his version rounds off the package with throbbing low end, harrowing synths, techy percussion and brooding reese bass swells. with four very different mixes to choose from, this is an immense package that is set to cause havoc on dancefloors worldwide for some time to come.

with a pair of sturdy releases behind them already melbourne s short black crew call upon lesser-known talent rustal to deliver the goods in a deep, techy style. before the original productions dub maestro brendon moeller drops in to deliver a version of -privilege- that heads into the echo chamber and doesn t let up for the duration. it s a powerful, immersive beast of a track that provides a fitting alternative to the uptempo, melodic thrust of the original version. -forwards backwards down- pushes the chords to the front of the mix and jacks up the drums for a proper fist-shaking workout.

the second outing from btg follows, in tradition, their 2 originals and 2 remixes format. this time round toyc creates a slower paced dance floor obliterator titled �kicks� sounding like a wonky laser gun trapped inside a broken 808 landing somewhere between broken techno and bass. on the remix project mooncircle and 20/20 ldn affiliated deft deconstructs and reconstructs toyc�s track into a maximalist beast fusing the current sounds of 160 bpm 170 bpm and half­time dnb with the technical precision of amon tobin. up next the booty­shaking stormer they call itoa, known for releases on bad taste and being featured in storming 160­/170bpm sets by djs and tastemakers such as om unit and sam binga. �snake pass� is a classic itoa track, playful bouncing subs and flickering percussion and shards of vocal, landing somewhere between footwork and booty bass. btg co­founder etch sets the pace with his remix of snake pass, coming through with a schizophrenic beats influenced sub heavy stepper that slowly evolves into a breakbeat onslaught.
