c powers was raised in atlanta, georgia, usa. he lives in savannah, georgia. he is resident dj for performance art drag collective house of gunt. he has also been resident dj at clubnights cape fear in savannah, hunger in atlanta and no pain in pop in london. he works in a library and is cat dad to peppers, bucchi, and baby d. his releases include the oysters ep for proper trax in 2015 and the up neck ep for cgi records in 2014. he produced the single crow for the group 18+ (from their album trust) as well as songs on their album collect. fitness check shows c powers s experience as a dj as well as his growth as a producer. from the drum programs to the arrangements, it s obvious that the ep was written and produced by someone who can work a dancefloor. on wysh, which he says is an exit reaction to morose and morbid- techno, subliminal speech and warped vocal stabs transition from centered to alert. on fresco he dices and scatters a song over loops of itself, a technique he calls -a grey area between sampling and editing,i break it up into bits, resequence that shit then stuff that shit back into the track.js may get even more service from the wysh key beats and fresco beatapella versions, which give jacking rhythm tracks and sub-bass extra room to do their thing. the heavily dubbed ask less kick beats, lighter on drums but with a booming bassline, may prove useful as a set-opener or closer. the ep has been mastered for club play by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering, berlin.

nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie. thats how belgian dj producer boogie belgique (aka oswald cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producers forte. this is pleasingly evident on volta, the latest boogie belgique album for the cold busted label. jungle law gives a glimpse into boogie belgiques sonic palette. tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. album opener go slow shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. its a beautiful concoction, and boogie belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

long awaited repress of this amazing masterpiece as very limited white vinyl edition. what happens when scales and patterns of contradicting emotional imprints combine? when light and darkness, bitter and sweet, frost and blaze collide? those are the questions that johannes heil chooses to address on his upcoming album, opening up a vast grey-scaled area for the listener to traverse with techno as a blindfold. �black light� sees the german techno mainstay return to the album format for an intimate ten track odyssey of close-curtained introspection. heil chooses the words of fellow futurist nikola tesla to set the stage of the black light story >black is the true face of light, only we do not see this<. track names are dropped in favor of a chronology of scenes, better adapted to the seemingly polar opposition of the forces that the figure and cocoon regular conjures throughout the album. everything that we perceive is processed and set into relation with past memories, digested emotions and iron-branded impressions. battling the current, johannes heil chooses to challenge certitudes by forcing us out of our comfort zones into the absence of light. if the pictures painted on >black light< are dark, they are also far from monochromatic. the machine-driven sonic prism acts both as the heavy cloud and the burst of light that shoots through to guide us. its the aggressor and the victim, the clenched teeth and the jubilant, the paranoia and the sanity of the mind. its pure heads-down driving techno with volumes of grandiose. provoking our senses, extending his art onto our personal canvases, the exile boss gives the listener the freedom to interpret the emotional context of each piece, to write the scripts of the individual scenes. the impression that >black light< leaves upon first listen testifies that 20 years down the road, johannes heil shows no sign of slowing down.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. on its second release, the fresh label eating records, native of brussels, embarks us on its most unlikely underground journey yet .the new project includes two beautiful tracks from the deep flows of house music, from the unfamous talented producer from kiev, io (mulen). there s no point in trying to place io or his music in some larger social picture. no need to talk about his intensive production. his successful releases can be found on imprints such as rejected (joris voorn), propaganda (nastia), elarum and his own mulen records which he started in 2012 and that released his stunning debut album within 2013. on flutes/creeps ep, he thrives on fantastic impossibilities including flutes and deep melodic basses. it is obvious that mister io had a wonderful time making the two tracks. flutes comes up as victorious and gallant. it is an energizing shock full of curious noises, mesmerizing musical surprises, a real dancefloor track. creeps is discreet and dark, and remains beautifully deep. this track finds io wrenching as much sweetness out of it as he possibly can, in return giving us our first indication that he is in a generous spirit. when this ep comes to an end, it feels like getting back from a good vacation: the last thing you want to do is re-enter the real world.

recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.

forty six knobs machine by unbroken dub is the first release from nikita zabelins label, resonance moscow. based in the russian capital, the label focuses on electronic music from towns and regions nationwide. unbroken dub is the stage-name of denis safiullin, well known to domestic audiences as a member of the hot wax team. that project comes from the industrial city of tyumen, sometimes called the hydrocarbon heart of russia. winter temperatures in the area can fall below 45c. denis is a long-standing aficionado of analog synths and continues to experiment with all manner of samples. those two trajectories produce a high level of originality, especially when he enlists the support of leading club figures from around the world. denis release for resonance moscow is excellent proof of this bold experimentation. all three tracks on forty six knobs machine use the rokton, an antique soviet drum synth.

>i take my guitar and strum and sing some tings and blow peoples mind. but i aint trying to do anybodys music. im doing what i feel< - shadow when it came out in 1984 the far-out album sweet sweet dreams by trinidad & tobagos shadow (aka winston bailey) was described as way ahead of its time. undeservedly it was panned by critics and, unable to reach markets, disappeared into the dusty record collections of a few music aficionados. now, more than three decades later that cosmic dance-floor ufo is about to take off again, change all that and set the record straight. remastered and cut by frank meritt at the carvery the album is truly a masterpiece.
