for anma’s fifth release, reekee aka italy’s riccardo masi has produced a classic cut of uplifting house, quintessentially jamming a thunderous rolling groove with soft jazz piano. ecstatic synths unleash their primal screams throughout before the hammond steps up and raises the bar! remixer ricardo miranda cooks up a veritably frantic electronic jungle of idiosyncratic pulsing square waves and marimba voodoo soup, before vick lavender takes over the b-side with nigh on ten minutes of organically blissful jazz and groove experimentation. vick’s mix comes rooted with percussive breaks and a solid evolving rhythm section and is brim-filled with sleazy vibes, tender electric licks and rapturous synth pads swelling us into elation! lovingly pressed on 180g vinyl, hand stamped and labelled.

gidge is a production duo consisting of jonatan nilsson and ludvig stolterman. based in the northern parts of sweden, gidge quickly built a solid fan base with releases of their albums autumn bells, lnlnn and lulin. the music of gidge seems to affect their audience in an emotional way, which eventually resulted in the duo taking the top spot as best new artist at xlr8rs readers poll, as well as having the 3lps ending up on numerous end of year lists. their main source of inspiration is the vast, snow-covered woodlands of the north. gidge have for instance recorded all of their percussions in the forest, using only the sticks and rocks that can be found there. for seoul though came about after the duo went on a trip through asia, and spent a number of days in the south korean capital. they fell in love with seoul, and later on created this two-part hymn for the giant city. applescal created a remix for the track, which you can listen on the b side.

after spending years venturing between ocean and land, i.m.j.u.s has found solitude back in his hometown, seoul. upon returning he has dedicated himself to delivering the paganist delusion e.p. five recordings of melting rythmics derived from hypnotic minimal to pace driving tracks. i.m.j.u.s break codes up and this output shows his unique and unconventional sound interpretation. with inspiration peculiarly drawn from industrial sounds through his experiences, we are left with a convergence of experimental and uniquely imaginative techno.

after a killer 12 inches from mori ra, jongno edits is back with two tunes, blurring the lines between editing and sampling. the a-side, 42 below, is an uplifting korean fusion boogie with slap bass, tropical synths, summery guitar and female vocals. given a serious dub work out by monsieur jongno. effortlessly working the bassline and guitar with added muscle, subtle dub fx s, drum fills, teasing the vocal and synths before unleashing the chorus and guitar solos. nice brazilian vibes on this one, like a lincoln olivetti production, seoul went rio. on the flip side, drums and a bass is an obscure lp cut from a korean percussion ensemble with traditional korean folk elements, tribal drums and chanting, spikey avant garde guitar plucks, rolling punk funk bassline that builds the energy levels with jazz style vocals and horns. sounding very liquid liquid, a bit can, a bit pig bag, with some korean craziness. expertly extended and re-arranged by the jongno edits main man to give it more of a dancefloor edge, and ramping up the psychedelics. powerful stuff.

more than less, started from seoul, south korea, came back with 4th vinyl release “folka ep”, composed by joton, owner of newrhythmic records, based in north spain, leon. he is also part of more than less records, releasing “fragment ep” with soolee remixes in 2014. it had great success and been supported by many producers like surgeon, pacou, dvs1, invite, lakker, paul mac, samuli kemppi, unam zetineb, jeroen search and many more. “folka ep” has two new tracks, called “frontier” and “sendice”. these two tracks are remixed by japanese techno hero, dj nobu, and korean techno pioneer, soolee, again. the “folka ep” represents the conjunction of asianeuropean techno, which more than less has been pursuing. “frontier” has pure anlalog synth sounds with addicted melody line, based on rough sound textures. it’s obviously for the peak time of the dance floor. “sendice” has unique grooves which joton’s trademark and adding rhythmic loops gives numerous dance feelings. “frontier”, dj nobu remixed, gives hypnotic raw sounds and exotic feelings. it has subtle rhythmic factor and people can’t help moving their body. another remixer is, more than less records owner, soolee. it is 9 minute track, consisting with full of hypnotic sounds from the first to the end.

jongno edits is a homage to the golden age of k-pop: psych-rock, funk, disco, boogie… 60 s, 70 s, 80 s… countless hours spent getting our hands dusty in the record shops and flea markets of jongno-gu, the central district of seoul, in order to dig out the ultra-rare gems from the land of the morning calm . expect a complete reinterpretation of hard to find music, masterfully looped, edited and remastered for your listening and dancing pleasure! the first volume, a limited edition of 300 hand-stamped white labels, contains two tracks: the a side is a spacey edit of south korean ballroom disco. the slappy intro is followed by a rolling bass line, keeping the groove locked for the tape delay expeditions. side-b is a cut and paste of a classic disco-rock tune. k-pop history right here!
