ectopia are adam christensen, jack brennan and viki steiri. previous works have included sound-tracking jack smith’s experimental film normal love (1963) and carl theodor dreyer’s the passion of joan of arc (1928). they recently played a sell-out show at london’s ica in a wysing polyphonic showcase that also featured xname, siren and n-prolenta who made their uk live debut.
wysing polyphonic has emerged from the wysing polyphonic music festival, now in its 8th year, which has programmed the likes of beatric dillon, elaine mitchener, hannah sawtell, helena hauff, holly herndon, james holden, karen gwyer, klara lewis, nik colk void and russell haswell, amongst many others, play at the cambridgeshire centre.

originally released in 1999, the cultish reputation of the mysterious blindboy s sole offering to the world has attained it a high second hand value, and so archeo recordings have done the right thing and actioned a reissue. ruckus in lo fi is steeped in balearic guitar tones, downbeat hip hop cuts and forays into sumptuous jazz funk. there s also a remix from joe morris, who fashions a brooding, epic remix of -i dream- loaded with simmering tension without losing the funky warmth of the original. with all kinds of mellow pouring out of this one, any stone cold chillers out there won t want to sleep on this one.

elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. i’ve known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place i’d play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. i’m so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like they’re getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that we’re all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldn’t be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

the first clouded vision recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner matt walsh teaming up with stratowerx aka sam russo. the ep is completed with a remix from one of matt’s long-term studio partners, scott fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label. the three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. scott’s surface pressure remix turns the first track “no function” into a dark drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the ep very nicely indeed.

(get bad). the result? one of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017. queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but music for freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by luke solomon and justin harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. originally released back in 1984,two sharp pencils (get bad) is a record by queen drum-mer roger taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of anna wall & corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summers most essential records. born and bred in the uk, anna wall is a dj, producer and label owner who is a key player in london’s underground house music scene. her label the bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while anna herself has djd all over the world, most recently for mixmag at pacha for their ims launch party. corbi is an ibiza-based dj and producer, a&r for the highly respected fina records and co-founder of melon bomb, a party and dj collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the white isles most talked-about exports. having met while working at house giant defected records some years ago, anna felt that corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of two sharp pencils.

brussels-based play label records step up for the second instalment of their la parenthèse house series. the four track ep will be dropping both digital and vinyl. on the a-side, interstate delivers some irresistibly groovy house vibes, followed by dancing your heartbeat, an even funkier track by folamour. the b-side is marked by a deeper and slightly more mellow atmosphere. through house resort by siler and flabaire, who have already been a part of the first la parenthèse house edition, one dives into a loungy warmth. the final track comes from san francisco born, berlin based producer yooj. he drops a multi-layered journey with a catching balance of emotional and percussion-driven energy.

next up on etruria beat, is the dutch duo hush & sleep who have been steadily making name for themselves in the past year. they deliver a stunning two tracks ep with farrago and marco effe on remix duty. the ep starts off on a joyous note with the track mirth. as this is an old english word for gladness, the main melody takes you on a carefree ride supported by a stomping kick and dreamy pads in the back. farrago takes a more stripped down approach with his version. he builds on the dreamy pad, making it serve as a warm blanket over his signature tight percussion. contradicting mirth, the second original slowly starts to drag you into a feeling of hysteria, hence the name. taking their signature kick as the foundation, hush & sleep use a haunting melody that lingers on in the back and sets an eerie mood. marco effe’s remix is a deep stunning techno groover. taking the main melody but twisting it into his own wonderful creation and sending you off on a journey into time and space.

w is the much-anticipated debut album of waage, a young & exciting reykjavik-based producer. his debut ep offers a spacious, texturally intoxicating and hypnotic minimal techno a journey through rhythmatic musical landscapes.aw1 is a ode to basic channel a propulsive, yet delicate, mantra. the repetitive nature of it will take a hold of the listeners and project them into previously unknown state of mind. w6 is reminiscent of some of the finest works of legendary icelandic techno producer exos, who happens to be the mentor of this young up and coming artist. the whole ep is driven by curiosity and passion, and despite some obvious influences manages to offer something fresh and exotic for the adventurous music consumer.athule records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of iceland s most renowned electronic musicians.

la vida sigue igual’ is immediately a more physical affair than its predecessor, kicking off with the title track, a hard hitting percussive monster. the sparse simplicity of the machine gun synth work & monotone spanish vocals by mystic bill evoke classic 80 s industrial and art house dance tracks. we’ve included the instrumental version for adventurous djs who want play doubles. on the b-side are two versions of the track “animals”. version 1 explores the underbelly of ny with maniacal industrial rhythms and samples from diamanda galas and travis bickle (robert deniro) in taxi driver. version 2 ventures into dark freestyle territory, fueled by the underground energy of chicago’s warehouse and medusas clubs

proof of the rude health of the australian underground abounds with this new label from phile, who step out with a self-titled debut ep that tells you all you need to know. this is searing, brutalist techno crafted with invention and imagination - the dense crackle of the beats and scorched peals of synth on -found in blood- are a visceral force to behold. -marauder- is mellow by comparison, furnishing a minimal beat with live bass, dramatic string licks and steadily building atmospherics. the analogue dirt of -abhor- is positively evil, and that s before karina utomo s none-scarier vocals come into play. brimming with personality and demanding of your attention, phile made themselves a duo to watch in one fell swoop.

with -nekromant- the labelheads avidus are back on empore music, to present their darker side. the original consists of powerful arpeggiators rolling on a triplet-beat with a trancy vibe. the remix from jens-uwe beyer, formerly known as popnoname and as the curator of the label magazine, delivers a dreamy remix from the original with nice organic percussive elements. berlin based sebastian voigt, who has been making waves with his release on outcast oddity, completes the remixes with a straightened interpretation of the original back to a 4 to the floor beat, even adding even more drive and power if compared to the original. the ep comes full circle with a beatless -synthapella- from the original.

udacha just gets better and better with every release, branching out into ever more exciting shapes and styles beyond their house and techno foundations. on this album from indoor plants, wild fourth world visions collide with hardware processes in a dazzling display of transcendental music for those who like their thought-provoking tunes to pack a punch. the likes of -targitaus- deconstruct club music conventions in a quest for new rhythmic purpose, and yet the soundsystem pressure is expertly sculpted out of the daring shape of the music. elsewhere there s surrealism in abundance, as on the wonderfully weird -hunch-, and that s just scratching the surface of this truly essential lp.

coalmine records is excited to announce the limited-edition vinyl release of the artifacts’ highly regarded 2012 single, “easter,” which marked the group’s first official release in more than 15 years.
initially released as a digital single on april 3, 2012 (the tuesday before easter sunday), the track later appeared on coalmine’s decennary compilation, unearthed, which dropped may 13, 2014.
however you heard it—one thing was very clear: despite their time apart, artifacts emcees tame one and el da sensei sounded as fresh as ever on “easter.” the new jersey rappers’ venomous flows are boosted by the neck-breaking production of acclaimed north carolina producer khrysis. making the cipher complete is the turntable work of dj dutchmaster, who provides the scratch hook and outro cuts.
with this release, “easter” makes its grand return in the physical form in a limited-edition white vinyl pressing that also includes the instrumental track on the flip. it also takes things back to the old-school by way of a front jacket hole that exposes the label (the heads know what’s up).

june 2017, amsterdam, nl: it is with the utmost urgency that we report the conclusions of our experiments with controlled doses of 4-ho-met, codenamed st004.
as instructed, we met up with agent 23, who introduced us to the test subject– code name ben penn – who was ushered into the bunker for immediate testing. in order to observe his reactions, penn was injected with a modified dosage of 4-ho-met and locked inside with only and handful of electronic machines for company.
the subject immediately began acting strangely. it quickly became clear that 4-ho-met was increasing his capacity to produce music.
afterwards, penn was able to play us two audio interpretations of his experience. he was visibly shaken.

optimo trax 30 celebrates a double 30 year anniversary: the original release date of “rejekto” and 30 years since twitch started dj’ing. in 1987, twitch, who wasn’t known as twitch yet, picked up a copy of “rejekto” at glasgow’s then numero uno import shop, 23rd precinct. he was smitten.

legendary nitsa club from barcelona comes back releasing new music fifteen years after their first venture with nitsa recordings. the new label is called nitsa traxx. the essence is not to focus in a particular sound, but try to cover all the range of styles you can usually listen to in this acclaimed club. besides that, the main idea is pretty simple: the a side includes the original track and the b side comes with a remix. first release comes from valencian producer daniel kyo. after releases in drumpoet and bordello a parigi, on this occasion kyo dives into deep techno with a nostalgic hint to ebm. “nacht drei” sounds like one of those tracks from the infamous ruta del bacalao, but with a very nowadays production. sharp and hypnotic, but with a certain sense of epic humor. valencia style. on the flip, marc piñol remixes the original track and makes it sound blurry, obsessive, fast and mental. inspired by his legendary warmups in nitsa club, expect nothing more and nothing less that a simple but not-so-simple mixing tool with a personal touch. one of those long tracks for djs who just love to make lingering transitions to flip out the crowd. nitsa traxx will come back very soon with new music from people related to the club. family and friends. look forward to some surprises for the upcoming releases!

ali kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. the istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style – a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering middle eastern instrumentation – via releases for the likes of luxa flex, kalisah, sound architecture and, most recently, leng.
it’s to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, it’s not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. from start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings.

modularz presents a special edition release taking a bit of a different approach to whole getting deeper and focusing on the details that make it happen on the floor ! this is a solid 4 track techno banger written and produced by juxta position who was previously featured on dvs1 s mistress recordings, rhythm nation and his own failsafe imprint, the release displays great razor sharp percussion with melancholic synth lines, whilst serious sub bass shifts much air and shimmering moods filter across the mid range. this is another one of those never leaves the bag eps play it loud!!

following his self titled lp, illa j sometimes known as “john regal” (born october 13.1986 in detroit, michigan) is a singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, multi instrumentalist. he takes us on a trip to his hometown detroit with his third solo album home. his last lp successfully took illa j out of his brother and hiphop legend j dilla‘s shadow to show he is in his own lane. yet, yancey still felt as though he was in a box labeled rapper. teaming up with producer calvin valentine, who entirely produced the album, home is illa j‘s first album to properly showcase the full extent of his vocal range to put him in the singer-songwriter conversation. the listener can feel the soulfulness of this lp through illa j‘s singing and valentines‘ smooth production.
