merkur releases its 6th ep which has a new, different approach compared to the last eps for which it has gained much praise during the past 5 years. the a-side >theme of mercury< was produced by label founder shingo suwa and akirahawks, who is known for the unique re-edit label house mannequin. the two of them mainly perform at homopatik in berlin. theme of mercury is a hypnotic track which was created with some broken old synth and sends your mind on an intergalactic odyssey, before diving into the deepest ocean on a journey to forget about space and time. the first track of the b-side is a remix from ducerey ada nexino aka yuji kondo, also known for his work under both his own name and as a half of steven porter on semantica. the remix fastens up the mix by repetitive pulsating synths, giving the beat an industrial modern atmosphere and letting the crowd heating up. the second track on the flip-side, called >barsoom<, is a solo production by shingo and completes the whole package. the functional work of a cut up 303 acid line with raw bass and a running groove creates an insistent and deeply pressured feeling. vinyl only, limited to 300 copies.

hvnxx is one of the most special projects weve taken part in as a label. some months ago the xx and young turks asked our artists to remix tracks from coexist. it was a big honour and also a big responsi- bility, specially considering that the xx is one of our favourite bands. the outcome of such challenge is a four-track ep that showcases the sound of both well-established members of the hivern family, such as marc pinol and new jackson, and upcoming talents such as round and mistakes are ok. all four remixes are pretty different among them, but they all manage to maintain the distinctive spirit of the original songs in their own way. marc pinol takes fiction to the good ol days of chicago house, laying the original vocals on top of analog drum-machines and a rubbery bassline to that suggest an imaginary collaboration between adonis and oliver sim. the elusive mistakes are ok maintains the tropical vibe of reunion but provides a warped atmosphere combining breezy chimes with static haze and a propulsive bass that boosts the song towards the second part of the remix. hiverns latest signee round transforms the fragility of missing into a soothing house cut through uplifting organ chords and vigorous rhythms fulfilling dancefloor demands without loosing its melancholic character. finally, new jackson proves once again his knack with nocturnal ambiences flipping swept away into a sensuous deep-house gem guided by an absorbing piano and a slow but steady groove. the release comes in an embossed sleeve with artwork designed by arnau pi. hvnxx is a co-release with young turks.

damian schwartz and jonas kopp, two old friends and part of the esperanza family come back to the label to deliver a split ep full of deepness and dubby yet summerish feeling. a side, hidden house its the deep cut of the record with a huge detroit feeling, analog synths, melodies, pads. chords, strings. jonas track on the b side is a great tool we have been using for years already, 100% his own unique stlyle of dubby techno. must have!

it is 2013 and in this release we hear a totally new approach to sampling. a vinyl release of two artists. fitz ambro$e (cape breton island) residing intokyo, & ohbliv of richmond, virginia(usa). fitz ambro$e sound has unique influence from 90s hip hop and 80s soul, he is also affiliated with cosmopolyphonic collective in tokyo. from the record archives of his father, ohbliv developed the charm of sampling. the record is a 14 track collage of beats from two uniquely talented artists who transcend their individual musical roots. as if competeing with each other both leave the remnants of sampling material, and the method in which they cut and chop is truely an interesting work.

mike gill who has already featured on roots for bloom teams up with taymor zadeh to bring us the coppin a feel ep featuring a john dimas remix. the a side *coppin a feel* brings us hard hitting groove with a hypnotic vocal line carrying the track. loose percussion and bold tom drums really cement this to work on any dance floor. the b side cut *the message* is a more rolling groove with a strong rhodes line that features later on really making the track evolve. john dimas takes *the message* and takes the atmosphere up a notch, with slick cut up vocals. this one will work in the early hours.

the ep starts with peace in the world, an infectious, assertive stomper that hooks you with a simple keyboard riff and vocal sample. the energy doesnt let up on runnin, though that cut is decidedly deeper and smoother. the flip finds montel turning it back up to 11 with ecstasy, a dramatic club anthem, and get down, a funky, elastic burner that closes the 12inch

misty conditions is a project that started off when henry collins and richard wilson met up in henrys studio a couple of years ago and jammed for a few days non-stop, enjoying the process thoroughly. the connection became so good in this period that the duo developed a fluent understanding of how each other worked, ending up as a project made across the internet, while henry was living in france and richard in la. they cross pollinated by developing what each did best, henry making and creating banks of samples and richard creating software and effects to cut up and re-sample, passing the tracks back and forth, essentially until they felt finished.

like the face-painted celtic hordes that succesfully repelled all invaders, seaghdha continues to dominate the high ground and provide sonic sustenance for rave caves the world over. as the series continues to pick up new fans and plaudits aplenty, the modus operandi remains the same - precision club workouts, which ricochet between uk flavoured jams, to clean cut techno & stripped down house.

following four releases in the bangers and ash 12 inch series, styles upon styles inaugurates the label proper with an ep from our friends and community cohorts, archie pelago. from their earliest digital releases on end fence and tectonic, through substantial 12 inches via mister saturday night, well rounded, and their recent self-released transmissions (sly gazabo ep and breezy whey), each body of work from the trio of hirshi, kroba and cosmo d contributes to a growing narrative in their catalogue of improvised, acoustic-electronic dance music. mastered and cut by matt colton at alchemy in london. pressed at mpo in france with artwork from calvin ho and sus sleeve design by tschiegg.

after appearances on idle hands and brstl, rhythmic theory returns to their own imprint to further explore gritty textures and mysterious moods within house and techno frameworks. where theory001 featured the somewhat soothing, melancholic tones of >echo vibe< and >omega syndrome<, this second installment comes caked in sonic muck and abrasive attitude.its not all dark and foreboding, as the graceful filter-swept key refrain of >siren song< will attest, but it takes a barrage of rasping hats and bludgeoning kicks and toms before such niceties can be foisted upon our ears. while there is an optimistic lilt to the particular notes the melody calls out, in the midst of such machismo percussion it cant help but feel emotionally ambiguous, continuing the tone set out in the first rhythmic theory releases.there is no such confusion over b side cut >genesis< from the apocalyptic boom of the opening kick to the rapid gun fire of the snare this is a track that wants to inflict damage. at the midway point the searing beat melts away as a wash of delay-riddled speech knocks you from your centre of gravity, only for the drums to come whipping back in to pick up the slack. even the sole synth note that rears its head is devoid of compassion, pulsing a creepy, robotic intonation through the clamour.

20 years of downwards ... enough said! pressed on translucent, slightly smokey marbled vinyl and delivered in a 350gm printed sleeve.

cult melbourne band primitive calculators cut a single in 1979 before splitting in the true punk fashion. a posthumous eponymous live album was released in 1981 (also reissued this spring on desire) and that was it. those two tracks are as fresh now as they were more than 30 years ago: in a style not dissimilar to the screamers or cabaret voltaire (circa nag nag nag), primitive calculators used raw monophonic synth lines with scratchy guitars and screaming vocals but the songs were standing on their own (as the unplugged version of do that dance that appears on the primitive calculators and friends 1979-82 could testify. the original 7 inch is now incredibly rare and hard to find and this reissue is its exact replica. first pressing limited to 500 copies.

etherwerks second release is an ep titled triplane by hannu ikola. the release includes three unique tracks with a diverse approach to modern techno. starting off the release, a blend between experimental styles and big room techno, *black ingrained dust* draws from driving rhythmic elements and swelling textures. *escape pod* is a cut with classic drum machine aesthetics, echoing the golden age of techno. the closing track *pylon* is a dubby techno heater with growling synth basses and ghostly detuned chords, presenting a strong analogue flavour.

the seventh instalment in lo sheas series of 10 vinyl only releases on seaghdha. you know by now how this goes - precision club workouts, which ricochet between uk flavoured jams, to clean cut techno & stripped down house. vasquez leads the charge here, less about the legendary captain of the soundfactory, and more the soundtrack to a drug deal gone bad in downtown miami. like her flails around a bowel troubling low end and crisp snare double act, piling on the pressure with an unrelenting groove and some deftly applied distortion. elsewhere 365247 is in more familiar lo shea / seaghdha territory, with some expertly manipulated, atmospheric sampling laid over a spare, shuffle-happy herbertesque workout. finally flash gives us a glimpse into sleepless basement, inhabited by addled humanoids, playing glass bottles.
