the highly promising loopy opens its account with a double dose of disorientating, hypnotic botheration from nz-er oliver peryman, ex of labels like samurai horo, tri angle and exit. both cuts are curtly compelling: ss is darting and hyper, knecht more haunted, percussive. on the flip, kassem mosse contributes some elastic, bubbling funk, with characteristic panache, and oren ambarchi settles in for twelve minutes of the frighteners. an excellent ep. watch out for loopy.

mallorcas dakpa has been on a roll since amam released his debut ep last fall. he has contributed to several compilations, including amams own hand out series, kina music s fade to k pt. 3 and wizz vinyl s sonar sampler 2014, plus eps for labels like district raw and serial number 849. but amam gets the honor of issuing his first own vinyl release, the distres ep. the opening title track is an exercise in jacking minimalism, vibrant tech house with just the essentials, but more than enough to get the floor moving. then, ademus gets into a slightly more colorful groove, with tropical percussive interplay and some whooping voice for a humanistic accent (is that brigitte bardot?). on the flip, virgo gives a modern update to the frenzy of acid house. the title alone brings virgo four to mind. on that note, this one is an effective tool for warping minds and evoking spastic dance moves. finally, the dependable gaetano vinci a.k.a. hooved reinterprets ademus with a heavy dose of melodic funk and symphonic washes, making the track into an entirely new creation.

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

on moving to canada from his original home of haiti, pianist and singer/songwriter henri-pierre noel brought with him much of the tropical island s influences. the kompa funk sounds of his homeland, along side contemporary north american jazz and disco, ran throughout henri s 1979 album piano, re-released by wah wah 45s in 2012, and now its time for a second helping with the re-issue of 1980s dance floor friendly one more step, both albums having been originally released on very limited private presses and since become holy grails of the back music scene.
