falk records will be releasing ‘spaces’ from icelandic experimental producer aaiieenn this august. aaiieenn is the solo project of electronic musician hallmar gauti halldórsson. halldórsson first came to music though being a mover and shaker in iceland’s punk and hardcore scene where he was the “harsh noise guy” with local band distill the world. with aaiieenn however, halldórsson moved away from the guitars and screaming to a fully electronic world of experimental synth music and gorging on the mathematical possibilities and expanses of arpeggio/sequencer driven ambient music. ‘calab-yau’ and ‘continuous property 1’ drip shards of pure crystalline sound into deep crevasses as harmonic droplets ping of gleaming surfaces coated with spongiform bass. the light and effervescent ‘euclidean’ evokes classic ambient works aphex twin, while ‘manifold’ is more direct with a muscular and sturdy bassline. spaces closes with the fluttering and lush ambient sounds of ‘zariksi’ that are carried into the skies by a pulsing and gliding techno beat.

reform, the tuscan techno duo, make a return to etruria beat to follow up the success of 2017s ‘checkmate ep, remixed by amelie lens and their recent ep on second state with a huge new offering - unconventional spaces. reform present three fresh originals, backed by a massive rework from etruria boss luca agnelli. unconventional spaces is a melodic and timeless work, perfect for a magic sunrise closing set. luca delivers a heavier rework, creating a special atmosphere with powerful chords that drift back and forth. just this is characterised by a raw triple stab, a vocal laid down by the guys themselves and an emotional and mysterious break. closing the ep is span, which is composed of bouncing tom samples, straight hats and a moogy bass that develops throughout the arrangement, a perfect peaktime number and strong finalé.

we here at french press lounge are very pleased to share our latest release by florida-born, california based producer and professor neoprene with a debut 12” titled “possibility spaces”.
propelled by pure state aesthetics, spatial theoretics and a fondness of ferns, neoprene (amongst several other musical monikers and permutations) has been crafting and perfecting outer-world electronics since 2011 through their highly slept-upon digital and cassette label ashtar communications. “possibility spaces” is their debut 12”, a collection of cherry picked tracks created in chicago during their barista residency of 2015 - heavy points of dark matter gliding across a delicate, semi-permeable surface of unidentified experience. where others simply trawl the tropes of a rave culture gone by, neoprene bends into the best assets of house, hardcore and breaks and pulls up through a dense fog of floral new age ambience, creating a one-of-a-kind approach to expository techno.

make love in public spaces is a new but not so mysterious offshoot of a label which will be familiar to anyone who has been to a certain erotically charged discotheque with a big heart in east london over the last 4 years. they launch with a three track release from adesse versions that recasts underground 90s classics of some vintage in his own inimitable style - the lead track is destined to get club play for months to come thanks to its deft vocal hook. adesse versions is the anonymous alias of a techno producer with previous work for ostgut ton and curle, showing his house side and who you will no doubt recognise from his most recent work for trus mes prime numbers label as adesse... ltd stock

in spaces, composed by the brussels based producer haring, talks about what is living between several spaces and places, the feeling of having several homes and the ability to appropriate these spaces. haring has indeed composed this album between brussels, paris and istanbul. the encounters, the anchoring and the discovery of these cities come together in these ten titles which are each in their own way an ode to these cultures which opened new musical perspectives for him.

cold water, bad weather and a car packed with machines. best conditions to make a record. after two weeks, the reflections are three tracks, in three different ways but with many connections. the ep starts with “glowe” and technoid breakbeats, which are being controlled by heavy chords. “wiek” stays with the pattern of breaks but gets more emotional through various pads, which appear and suddenly disappear. on the b-side “spycker” finds his path, with the help of several percussive elements.

music and power brings you another installment in the spaces and places series from ron trent. berlin nights is inspired by the underground pulse of the city with heavy 909 drums, primal drive and string elegance. on the flip, mississippi mud is a tribute to indigenous american ancestors.

following strong turns from kasra v last year, this love fever spin-off label returns to call upon al kassian to drop some electro-pop enchantment on unsuspecting ears. with just one recently released record to his name, al has positively encouraged the intrigue that emanates from artificial emotion. -roboluv- is a sublime slice of house balladry shot through with a curious line in wobbly electro synths, which then really come to the fore on slower b1 jam -default-. with the heavily vocodered vocals pealing out through the mix, it s quite an arresting end result that culminates with the wonderful curio -broken embraces-.

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it’s perc’s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.

a couple of months after the release of contemporary spaces, four of abstract division s tracks get remixed. and who better suited for the job than label residents stefan vincent and deepbass & ness, and dynamic reflection debutants tensal and lewis fautzi.

fresh from live performances at bonobo’s outlier festival, the quietus stage at the great escape, and supporting max cooper, london-based production virtuoso guy andrews revisits his acclaimed debut album ‘our spaces’. informed by audience reactions at these shows, he takes two of the lp’s standout tracks and reconfigures them for the dancefloor, with devastating results. meanwhile two like-minded artists tackle the album’s lead single ‘in autumn arms’. max cooper crafts a formidable collage of idm textures, with staccato beats punctuating the lilting guitar riff, whilst dj mag’s former ‘best breakthrough producer’ ben pearce takes the track into the main room, turning in an elemental 4/4 floor-burner.
