tireless producer, tronic boss and top international dj christian smith here steps up for his first release on plus 8. over the years christian has offered up a high volume and high quantity of techno inclined singles for myriad labels (bedrock, systematic, 100percent pure, soma), so it only makes sense he now finds himself on one of the scenes most reliable outposts for such material. the two track ep kicks off with house is house which is, as the name suggests, a little house-ier than the flip, but still deals in plenty of heavy bass weight and slick repetition. the devil is in the detail filtered, dark voices, rattling cowbells, washes of white noise synths and long, thin, forward looking pads - all of which are married to a mid-tempo groove. the more forceful indulge me then follows. taught kick drums start immediately as claps and subtle synth stabs swell in volume until they eventually fill out the whole airwaves. squirming behind are thin and icy steel lines until the first drop when the deliciously bouncy groove sets in proper. far from aping the usual detroit and chicago tropes, christian smith has once again crafted two classy dance floor joints that are not only exquisitely produced, but that bare all the usual hallmarks of christian smith, one of the most consistent producers in the game.

the fourth release on steyoyoke continues the labels run of quality house music brimming with new flavours. >back and forth< provides a dashingly bright endeavour and is a perfect fit for the sommer! using numerous aliass with releases on such labels as crossworld records and neurotraxx deluxe, sasch has built himself a reputable name as a skilled producer, his first release on steyoyoke, certainly is a prove. oozing with bright flavours and sun drenched grooves, >back and forth< is a sharp-edged tool for those summer sets, rich in glowing synth lines and warm atmospheres.

k skip skipson has built himself quite a fan base with his funky releases as (knarf) skipson on quintessentials and other labels. the young man from berlin is deeply infuenced by hip hop – both in terms of production techniques (he uses an mpc as his main instrument) as well as aesthetically. for maria colors he comes up with four massive house tracks full of hip hop and soul samples which make you wonder, can it get any deeper than this?! funky as hell and extremely soulful – thats what makes these tracks from skipson so special – and at the same time theyre a wonderful way to celebrate the labels first birthday.

for the next outnl we prepared a package with 2 of our favorite artists of the moment. on the a side we have a track by glaswegian james johnston who has had an immense year with releases on labels such as fine art, under the shade and boogie originals. we are very pleased that james decided to release his deep burning that was now on outernational. on the b side we find ben la desh. who returns to outernerational with the breezy but ferm drug carrier. while his previous release doctor bills is still making its round through the clubs and podcasts. we are sure drug carrier will even turn more heads.

counter pulse stays substantial to the underground model & presents a mysterious alias by the scandinavian artist lodbrok. in contrast to other vinyl labels today counter pulse show no agenda to pick up the current trends and safe-name remixers to gain quick sales. feukt call ep is precisely all that in a nicely shaped up four tracker release including a remix by henning baer from sonic groove, plus a remix from and from black sun records. ponderous irregular rhythms with a focus on erosion & intense hi-hat patterns with cautiously arranged stabs is what this ep is all about.

returning to beats in space after their debut 12 inch (and the labels debut release) in the fall of 2011, paradis offers >hemisphere< and >je m ennuie<, another pair of sophisticatedly crafted, noir-pop songs from the young parisian duo.

with eddie cs previous creation for lets get lost barely out of the barrel of the the labels finely engineered hand cannon we are bombarded with two more selections from the canadian turned berliners seemingly limitless arsenal of secret weapons. masterful re-arrangement as ever ever from the now seasoned producer. side a yields wonderfully quirky balearic vibes while on the flip a horn and string led disco barn stormer reminiscent of a rub-n-tug unknown gem provides what is, for us at least, the highlight of the ep. two very different tracks and a great package all round.

next up on good ratio music is baldo, an artist who spent the past few months working in the back of this label getting prepared to release the third chapter in his own imprint. spies & lies is the name of his work which follows some brilliant remixes and tracks he did lately in labels like stranjjur and elevation recordings. as the story goes on after the great result of the tom ellis release, we wanted to give a different dimension to the label to bring it back into a more classical sound.

little is known about the norwegian bunny & bear duo known simply as the glue. their last appearance with us came courtesy of kolour ltd and we knew right then that these boys were in-store for their own ep with us and we are pleased to announce that it has finally come to fruition.

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.

rising parisian producer yakines career pretty much defines the word eclectic — in his teens, he was a bona fide metalhead, playing guitar in a metal band that toured all over europe, before his love of hip hop steered him in the direction of the dancefloor. he really found his home behind the decks, however, and once he discovered the world of electronic music via the patronage of his brother—who introduced him to the sounds of underground deep house and techno — yakine quickly moved into production. he has since released a series of eps on european labels like esperanza and jetaime records. the rise ep is his first release for spectral sound, a four-track slab of understated, atmospheric techno.
